I am doubtful that the story will go into what caused the Great Collapse. The Shining Blade are covering the truth behind the Great Collapse and won’t even let the Ministry Guard in, by the queen’s orders. So if this is a celebration related to the queen unless it’s Marjory going undercover, Jennah would likely know what caused it want continue to want to keep it covered.

There is always the second part of the event, later I the month. I doubt the Ministry and the bandits are going to allow the Queen to have a nice celebration without trying to ruin it. What better way than trying to uncover the huge mystery she is trying to hide?

The great collapse happened because of Dougal Keane’s incursion into the tomb of Blimm. They found a mere guardian. The real treasure was left behind, and the shining blade retrieved it and blew the whole thing down. The fall of “district 7” was just an “unintended” side effect.

We have to destroy the mako reactors that are hidden in the statues. SAVE THE PLANET!

A dev already said that it isn’t Canthan-related.

In the recent GuildMag interview, we were told we’ll be going to Divinity’s Reach for a celebration of some sort, so it’s likely related to that.

I wouldn’t expect less from you, Konig. Thanks for the info.

But now, more in the field of the speculation.
What do you think they’re building there?
A zephirite-like district? A circus-like fair? Something more solid and durable?

Hello lore lovers.

For those who’re not aware. Where in the past there was just a huge chasm in DR. Now lies a huge tent with some agents stating that the floor has stopped collapsing so they’re rebuilding in there.

What do you think it would be there?
A refurbished canthan district? Something entirely new?
I want to read your thoughts on the subject.

If it would depend on Konig, we would never see them.

I’m pretty sure Konig is just as interested in both Fractals. It’s just that the mystery of the reactor intrigues him more, which is totally understandable.

I personally don’t think he’ll get the lore he’s looking for, while the Abaddon fractal would be a much more defined event in Tyria’s history.

That’s why I’m voting Gnashblade

Given the nature of the Mists and Fractals, we might see only Abaddon.

And even if all six are depicted, they aren’t the real gods. So it doesn’t count.

Exactly, they wouldn’t be gods, it would be an echo of them still present on the mists.

It was never really stated that Grenth ever had control over them.

That is a good point. But you can’t deny that the Underworld definitely feels less stable, with those rifts appearing all over Godslost Swamp and the surrounding area.

To me, it doesn’t. That place was a nexus through which the god let heroes enter their realm in ages past. Now the very same nexus is out of control, after ages of neglecting. That’s all.

What they meant is that there’s so many things to know that even the asuran civilization, with all their brain power, open mind, orthodox and unorthodox methods, falls short to understand the universe as a whole. The do understand a lot though.

Kiel vs Evon, which fractal is preferred?

Ludovicus.7980

My guess?

There are five of us.

Abaddon fought five gods.

Remember Urban Battleground Fractal and turning into charr?

Yeah.

yes … YES!
I can see it already, each class turn into a God, like Rangers turn into Melandru, Guardians turn into Dwayna, Necros and Thief into Grenth and so on.
Or even randomly turn each of the 5 into one of the Gods and then an epic fight against Abaddon.

I think that the Abaddon’s fall fractal will be more interesting, but I’m sure that sooner or later both fractals will be available, so I’ll vote for Kiel for the WP fee reduction and be able to check the story behind the reactor first, then we’ll see Abaddon’s fall later.

So we’ve got…

Evon Gnashblade
“I’ll slash prices on Black Lion Keys for four whole weeks” (I don’t care for that)

“I’ll sponsor important Fractals of the Mist research into the Fall of Abaddon, to be completed by the end of the year” (Awesome!! OMG I WANT THIS!!!)

“I’ll host a rotation of popular activities like Crab Toss and Southsun Survival” (meh…)

Plus he’s a shady character. (I don’t like that, but people might find that appealing)

Ellen Kiel
I’ll reduce waypoint travel prices for four weeks’ time(loved that)

I’ll support important Fractals of the Mists research into the Thaumanova Reactor explosion by the end of the year (might have interesting ED lore, but who knows. It’s just a wild card)

I’ll introduce a rotating schedule of activities such as Crab Toss and Southsun Survival (meh…)

Plus she’s a goodie (I like that, but again, some people might find that unappealing)

I’m voting for Kiel. I’m trusting in A.Net devs to make some interesting lore in the reactor.

Risenception!
Now seriously. I think defeating a dragon is like stopping a tidal wave. You can do the monumental effort to achieve that and accomplish it. But the sea’s still out there. And more will come. You can kill them and get rid of them for a while. But they will return eventually, even if you destroy their bodies to smithereens.

Ludovicus.7980

Just a thought: With the new info that Elder Dragons are essentially magic sponges, could that mean the dragons going into hibernation are simply the result of each cycle simply thinking they had killed them?

Perhaps the only way to truly kill a elder dragon is to somehow remove the magic from a dragon’s body itself? “Cleansing” it perhaps?

IIRC, the first cycle only managed to put them to sleep, and they knew it. i imagined the dragons eventually might get saciated (at the cost of every living thing ever) and go back to sleep, like a milenar ciesta.

maybe they’re like Tyria’s reset button.

last cycle* we don’t know the results of previous cycles or how many there were sans many before the last.

Starving an Elder Dragon only puts them to sleep, not kill them, otherwise the Elder Dragons would have been killed last cycle thanks solely to the Bloodstone.

What I don’t get is why the elder races didn’t try to destroy the dragons when they went to sleep.
I mean Kralkatorrik was just out in the open and the dwarfs did fight in the last cycle. Why didn’t they try to kill it?

I agree that killing Zhaitan was too easy and that he might not be dead, but I have a different reason to believe that.

I believe that as some asura once said, we’re the incarnation of magic. That leads me to believe that that statement is even more valid for the dragons. They are the materialization of the aspects of magic.

I think they form through the millennia, like sedimentary magic stacking together. And they finally awake to consume the very magic they’re made of. That means that even though we could kill the dragons they will awake again at some point, even if we completely destroy their bodies.

Personal Story and Living World

Ludovicus.7980

Hello fellow Tyrians:

I was watching the latest Wooden Potatoes’ video and I felt the negativity that is nothing but a reflection of the community’s feelings. He raised some reasonable concerns but this time I want to play devil’s advocate and give A.Net the benefit of the doubt.

To summarize the situation, the main problem is that with the living story content not staying around, it is not possible to make big enough plot turns, twists and developments to cater the lore. People fears that with this small updates, nothing interesting could ever happen.

Pseudo-quoting Wooden Potatoes, this is like a TV show that after the end of the episode it reboots with little or no consequence. We know from the official channel that there are at least 4 small work teams developing the living story. Each team is able to create specific content for 2 months or so and then they release it. Having small teams means having small releases. And the way things are now, what we’ve seen is what we’ll get.

And here is when I’d like to intervene. Nothing stops A.Net from adding teams to the cycle. Even just for one event. They could just add a bigger team to release a new permanent zone and/or dungeon, just to kill Jormag or whatever.

The living world obeys to the principle of attracting people constantly to the game. “If you weren’t there you’d lost the chance to see it”. But that doesn’t mean that they they have to make EVERY living world update to be non-permanent. Some updates can introduce some personal story progression with permanent content without breaking the business model.

The other way I see they can make plot progression is by making demi-permanent content like Adventure box. Maybe Jormag’s lair has a very harsh climate and you can only get there when in summer and stuff like that.

Well, this post has grown too lengthy. See you later, folks.

TL.DR: don’t be lazy, read the whole thing, it’s not that big.

You should be able to put a level filter in a new LFG, but you should never but a class filter on it.
The LFG should have options similar to GW2LFG:
1) You choose if it is for a dungeon or other stuff.
2) If it is a dungeon, which one and if it is explorable or story.
3) If it is something else and it is not in the presets you should be able to have enough text area to describe it properly.

Hello fellow tyrians.

Here I am at work, and my gf sends me a whatsapp asking for the webpage you use to find dungeon partners. I answer her it is gw2lfg.com and she says thanks.

I’m left wondering if she finally got into a group or not. And that leads me to another question:
Why isn’t there an A.Net supported dungeon finder?

The echoes of ages past sound in my head:
“We don’t want anyone left out of the dungeons”
A flash from the WoW dungeon queue interface comes to my mind. How awful was to be a dps, luckily I was a tank. How awful was to be a tank and having to lead a bunch of noobs, with only my healer friend to help me to hold the line. I don’t want that either.

The thing is that GW2 doesn’t have the holly trinity and I don’t see that scenario happening in this game.

The way I see it there should be either an in-game dungeon finder or gw2lfg should be supported by A.Net.

Also agreed. Our story is not necessarily tied to the Pact, but rather the Pact is tied to Tyria’s story. In that case, it definitely seems as though the Pact will play some part in Tyria’s story in the near future.

But I think we both agree that it would be nice to have the story branch away from the Pact at some point. I’d hate to see GW2 be “Pact kills dragon 1, Pact kills dragon 2, Pact kills dragon 3, etc….” That would be horribly bland and unimaginative.

Yes. It’d be nice to hear the kill some dragon in our absence just by brute force an military power.

Actually that interaction is what made warcraft 3 such a great game (and WoW failed to deliver).

Good luck err… gentlemen.

Antonidas talking to Arthas shortly after he killed his own father:
Lord Arthas! How fares your noble father?

Random elf talking about the defense of Silvermoon:
[Elf]:The forests block the entrance to the city
[Arthas]:I won’t be stopped by some “trees”

I’d love to see Trahearne’s loyalties questioned because he’s a necromancer fighting Zhaitan and his minions.

I’d like to see more of the mistrust between the legion leaders (not just the rabble) and between char and human.

I liked minister Caudecus because it forced the queen to take him to the palace for “protection”.

I’d like to see the inquest trying to manipulate the Asuran population to side them, and accomplishing it, and achieving good things for rata sum. Making you kind of an outlaw.

I’d like to see the avatar of the white tree taking some morally gray decisions in order to destroy a dragon, sacrificing her own sons and other people just due to her naivety and Ventari’s teachings.

I’d like to see destiny’s edge working together but still with mistrust and a split heart.

I don’t know, there are so many things that could be done with the huge lore we have.

Characters need to learn that their motivations have flaws. Both the dark motivations and the noble ones.

But Trahearne, he’s fine so long as he learns that lesson with the rest and grows or dies.

The problem regarding the Canthan aesthetics is that the architecture was sloppy and it was kind of demeaning to the Asian culture.

But what if Anet Does something completely out of the box and creates a super advanced Cantha that has been able to fly through the world and trade with other cultures while Tyrians were fighting their dragons?

What if in these 250 years Canthans went from monarchy to communism and then they saw what happened to the dredge and they went to a new age of neon, steam, electricity and magitech? Far more advanced that any Tyrian Asura.

What if they started being xenophobic only to realize that that was a mistake and they embraced the knowledge and cultural value of the other races and they are no more in the middle ages?

The Canthans could be afraid of the dragons and they don’t normally get to Tyria and/or get raided by the etherblades. That would explain why we haven’t heard about them.

Alright, for some of your easy improvements. I do not know what channel it is in, but if you are in your main chat with every line open, you can usually see the dialogue from the cinematics as well as any random dialogue that happens throughout the story. I think it depends though, sometimes it is in the whisper chat line and sometimes it is in the map chat for me I believe.

I believe that there is an LFG system in the works, but I think they need to get it in order and implemented, lol. Another WvW update can wait a few weeks so they can get the LFG system going.

Definitely agree that we should be able to replay our storyline. When I started I had a crappy computer with terrible lag that just barely had the stats required to play the game at the lowest level. No, what he is stating Ludo is that this isn’t the place to discuss the validity of taking that statement (your video) as lore. My guess is that there has been some in length discussions/debates on the subject that he does not wish to repeat.

Oh, I see. You’re both right, this is not the place to discuss that.

But back to Melandru, we have some npc opinions that say that the gods are not in the mists. And some other npc opinions that say that Melaggan is Melandru and Melaggan is dead.

I know quaggans are not as reliable as asura in terms of information gathering. But they’re somehow quite sure about the last two statements.

As for the dragons not gaining strength, actually it is obvious that they are doing just that. I mean from the perspective in game it could be stated that they are merely going from a state of near starvation to being well fed, which in turn would make them stronger, but at the same time none of the dragons have eaten magical artifacts of any major significance. We could not say that all of the artifacts in Orr combined would equal up to the magical worth of even half of a god, let alone a whole god. The effect on the dragon could be extremely significant, and I honestly believe that if ArenaNet does have this happen, and they do not have something occur because of it, they have missed a major opportunity.

That’s what I see, they’re becoming stronger because they’re becoming well fed, and that’s all.

What could be questionable is whether or not they have the belly to eat a god.
Are they capable of assimilating that tremendous amount of magic at once?

All evidence and in-universe research points to that their power is indestructible. That is why it was going rampant and manifested after Abaddon’s death.

Well, I don’t think the apostate knew about the dragons. And one NPC’s opinion is hardly a solid evidence.

How Kormir was able to absorb Abaddon’s power is never really shown. The avatars said words, but we saw no actual physical action taken, same with the blessing. I’d like to believe there was something, mind you, but nothing really proves that a dragon couldn’t absorb that power to empower himself.

Besides, we know that taking in magic empowers someone. Duncan the Black, Mallyx the Unyielding, Shiro Tagachi, Gaheron Baelfire, Kudu, and more have all either done so or tried and was considered a thread for trying.

But the dragons are different, they eat magic but they do not become more and more powerful as they do, they just eat it. No other being is able to eat magic.

A slip of the tongue is hardly what I’d call strong evidence, but that’s not something to really discuss here.

So you’re saying there’s more evidence stating that Melandru is alive?
Why isn’t this place right to discuss this?
Isn’t this thread about the disappearance of the gods?
