The reason I dislike him is because he just kind of hijacks the story line quests. While up until the Orders part you are the main character who is pushing the story and guiding it a long. But then Trehaerne shows up out of no where and just takes over. I think that had he been introduced better and earlier it would not have been as bad.
One way I could imagine the story going would be like that during your racial story line you get introduced to some sort of character that would be like Trehaerne later on. You would complete the racial part of the story and then the character would become more important but gradually. He/she be trying to get the racial factions together while you get the Orders together.
Err… Destiny’s Edge??
I just say it’s a shame that we’ll have to wait that much. Cantha has so much potential, both aesthetically and plot wise. I loved my asian chars, they had personality.
My thoughts:
1. “It would help a lot if the achievement for collecting every Baubel in a stage, tracked them as you collected them. Right now its always stuck on 0%, and jumps to 100% after collecting them all. It would help if we could see how many Baubels were left in a stage.”
Agreed
2. “Some jumps, especially the one in World 1 Stage 1 (the secret cave behind the waterfall) are too tight. They are barely doable, even with a running jump. And with the camera backed in a corner like that, that jump is way harder to make than it should be. Please make this jump a bit easier. I am of course talking about the jump that comes after the two jets of water. Try and not make jumps that are exactly at the maximum jump distance.”
I don’t know what jump are you talking about, sorry.
3. “While we’re at it, fix that camera please. When ever it is too close to the ground, or any object comes in between it and the player, it goes insane. It bounces back and forth constantly, and that’s very nauseating. And it makes platforming way harder than it needs to be.”
It’s not been a problem to me as a human. But maybe to larger characters is it.
4. “The big slam attack of the Frog boss is nearly impossible to dodge, which is very frustrating. Even when you know its coming, it still hits you as you dodge-roll. I think this could be made a bit easier.”
You need to bee in the rocks when the splash happens.
5. “Fix the targeting! It is really hard to select the frog boss, or the necklace. And if the wrong one is selected, your character will throw every gem into the ground!”
It’s not been a problem to me. Maybe I’m used to GW2 targeting system.
6. “Make cinematics skippable please.”
Yes, please.
7. “Please provide a quick way for people to rejoin the final boss battle after using a continue coin.”
It’s close enought to me.
8. “The bee queens aren’t much of a threat, due to the fact that they can be stun-locked so easily with the whip.”
I’ve never done this as a group, so I don’t know.
9. “Waiting for a character to stop talking, before being able to use their services, is a bit annoying. This mostly applies to Moto when you want to hand him your coin.”
Agreed.
10. “Please don’t make us whip a turtle or crocodile from a sinking lily pad in hazardous water. Those things sink instantly, which means we sacrifice health to hit the kitten animal.”
I just hit it in mid air. Not a problem to me.
11. “Allow us to smash pots and furniture by hitting them, instead of picking them up.”
Agreed.
If it does have to be removed, how about this. Do something similar to the Darkmoon Fair in WoW, put it up one week per month.
This sounds reasonable. A.Net could add some of the future mini-games to this “fair”.
I want them to unlock the shooting mini-game at Divinity’s reach though…
I left the game for a while. You know heart of the swarm and stuff… but I really loved this content when I came back
What exactly do you mean with “what word”?
If you mean if we will go there, apparently not soon as for what I know the publisher prefers to get rid of it for now (something about not wanting asian typical representations or stereotypes, not sure of the details), I think it was even the reason behind the Canthan District in Divinity’s Reach being replaced by a big giant hole.
For the question, other than a few (half?)dead sailors, we have no information on Cantha.
And I cringe every time someone bring up that “Ridding of Cantha” topic. No publisher is ever going to write off a huge portion of their game like that. There is a big difference between “not wanting Asian stereotypes and representations” and outright banning Cantha, because they are afraid of the former. The different being good writing.
The probably didn’t want to bring Cantha in right from the beginning, for the same reasons they didn’t bring in Elona. It doesn’t make sense lore wise, and like any MMO; they want to stretch their production, story, and expansions over years.
As for the Great Collapse, it gave them an excuse to redo that area again (possibly transferring that style over to a future Canthan expansion as well), and they can give possibly foreshadowing into Cantha too. In-game reasons for the collapse are said to be “hasty construction”. Kaineng City suffers from something similar.
After the Jade Wind, the city had to expand basically overnight to take in the refugees. It expanded so much, it takes up a very good portion of Cantha itself. After awhile, I can see portions of that city falling into disrepair and possibly collapsing like the district did. It seemed to be starting already judging by some of the areas in Factions.
Now add a couple of centuries of that, possibly angry assimilated Luxons and Kurzicks, a nation of xenophobia, the Ministry of Purity, some political intrigue by way of the Emperor, and a dash of Elder Dragons, you can get a really good expansion.
Plus, we could possibly see some Ministry of Purity vs. Elder Dragon and their corruption.
I was just reading about this in the wiki. It’s a shame they had to scrap the Canthan district and repace it with a big hole.
I personally feel that if Mordremoth was anywhere within the Maguuma Jungle, it would be closer to the Bloodstone. The only reason I feel this is because of the fact that Elder Dragons move to the location of magical items to be devoured. I would think, this being the biggest magical item in the area, that this would be Mordremoth’s choice.
Indeed
The hounds and mosshearts twisted by the Nightmare Court do indeed change drastically – becoming darker and overall more decrepit – but the sylvari do not (this I actually use as part of my Nightmare=Mordremoth’s influence theory; since sylvari are immune to dragon corruption, they don’t change physically but due to the Dream/Nightmare, they’re changed mentally – while the things they spread the influence to (hounds, mosshearts, husks) do change physically).
Yes, and that makes Mordremoth the biggest threat among all the dragons. If his domain is the dream he’s connected to the mists. That means that he could even try to attack the 6 human gods, create his own domain and threaten the very existence of the world. Like Abaddon did some centuries ago.
In the beginning, the spirits of the world were wild and untamed. In time, many took physical form: spirits of stone, spirits of water, spirits of wind, spirits of soil, spirits of plants and birds and creeping things. All things with form have spirits… as do many formless things.
But one day the bear stood up and looked around him and saw that the spirits of the world were restless and chaotic. He could not understand the endless cycles of creation and destruction.
There’s nothing to say there were competing or rivalry. The closest you get is “cycles of creation and destruction” – but they were wild, untamed, and chaotic.
This kind of remembers me Zerus and the primal zerg…
Norn could be kodan that could shapeshift and embraced the great human spirit (like the bear spirit, but human) after humans came to Tyria and somehow they got stuck in human form as a base.
Game Over
I love the content; it is an absolute blast and I want to do more.
And that is why I want it to go away. Not forever, but until next April, when it comes out again, possibly with additional weapon skins, new enemies, and other changes, maybe even taking on a different facet of old games.
By taking it away it is something special. It is something to be cherished and appreciated while we have it.
If it never goes away, it is just another thing to do, like keg brawl, spvp, wvw, farming orr, shadow behemoth, claw of jormag, etc. Eventually, there are more things to do than time to do them. By making it a transient event, people are forced to make the time, or live with the consequences.
Game Over. And this is why ^
Amazing. I just hope the dungeon is permanent.
Since a new profession should fill a new plated niche. Being the warrior a pure plated class and the guardian a plated-scolar, I guess the new class would be a plated-adventurer of some kind, with the use of daggers and pistols.
Which I certainly did not mean. When I say approach to sexuality, I do not mean ‘they think it’s wrong to be homosexual’, I mean compared to the fact that Sylvari are very open with it.
But I found this from Ree, anyway after a google search:
Ree: Other races of the world see the sylvari as odd for many more reasons than simply their sexuality – the issue of same-gender love among the sylvari is no more strange to, say, a norn than the fact that sylvari bleed a type of sap and not blood. Other races have a history of same-sex relationships, but those relationships tend to be downplayed and not lauded within the culture. This is not to say that the races of Tyria are naturally homophobic; they’re absolutely not. It’s simply not particularly common.
Within the sylvari, all forms of benevolent love are encouraged. If love makes you and the recipient stronger, if it encourages you to positive action and heroism, then it should be respected and celebrated. The sylvari see this as only natural. The other races are curious about it, true, because many of them aren’t used to seeing that kind of relationship. Still, the other races don’t, in general, approach it with a sense of abhorrence or disdain.
However, it should be noted that there will always be individuals whose personal beliefs counter their general racial tendency. Among the norn, for example, we have the Sons of Svanir – who are wholly and unashamedly misogynistic. Individuals of the various races might have their own reasons to denigrate a same-sex pairing. Such individuals will tend to be seen as villains within the overall culture of Tyria."
EDIT: Suppose a source would help: http://gaygamer.net/2011/10/interview_guild_war_2s_ree_soe.html
I don’t normally accept gay couples in anime, games ect (they are just unappealing to me, it is not something I choose, it’s the way I am). But the way they’ve put the whole sylvari relationships in a way that I feel anyone could connect to. They are all like brothers, fellows, lovers. They kind of love they have for each other is not bound to the love we know. It’s such a pure love that it doesn’t tick my pucky nerve.
Good work with that A.Net
Maybe caledon forest is not the right place to put those thick forests I’m longing for. I have my hopes in echovald forest.
9/10 Very original, at first sight it just feels like the perfect sylvari name for a mesmer
Forenzo
Thief of the Order of Whispers
Actually, I don’t have such character, so if you wish to create it, the name is not taken. My mesmer is a human male. I just made up the name.
Plaetora Sativa I mean.
6/10 it sounds too rough for a sylvarian name.
Plaetora Sativa, Mesmer female
Plaetora means many as for the clones. And sativa is part of the name of the canabis, as for the mind messing.
(edited by Ludovicus.7980)
I don’t know if you feel the same way. But even being a sylvari area, it doesn’t feel thick enough.
Or maybe I’m just too fond of ashenvale and darkshore’s stalkig predators behind a tree.
Thoughts?
I feel you, man. My main is a mesmer, and I really hate the butterflies.
No
Match them up for us
Since no one has ever done this I’ll match them for you:
Dwayna (life) – Zhaithan (Bad life)
Balthazar (fire) – Primordius (Bad fire)
Grenth (Ice) – Jormag (Bad ice)
Lyssa (shifting) – Kralkatorrik (Bad shifting)
Abaddon (water) – Bubbles (Bad water)
Melandru (growth) – Brambles (Bad growth)
I’m not sure if the concept of the Eternal Alchemy has room for “gods” that are all-powerful. They would likely view the 6 gods as entities that are very powerful, but still are part of the Eternal Alchemy and are therefore bound by its “laws/principles”. My Asuran Necromancer would LOVE to meet one of the 6 human gods – there are about a tousand lab tests he would like to do with them. Worshipping is not on the list though.
I wonder why not, my asuran elementalist is very interested on how do the 6 react to the human worship. Even though he doesn’t believe they’re worth worshiping. He record the energy readings of a human god while receiving worship.
it kinda feels like gw2 mesmers were made first, then they thought “lets make them cooler” and went back in time and put all the cool fun stuff in gw1
i miss all the IF THEN ELSE builds back then
now its just “which clones and phantasms do you want to deal with”watered down lameness!
bring on complicated and cool!
So phantasms are supposed to be like physical hexes, how about a phantasm that does nothing but has high retaliation to punish AOE damage.
IF you do damage to that phantasm damage THEN you get hurt ELSE you stay ok.
We’ve got feedback, which is a IF THEN ELSE mechanic, It’d be cooler that the feedback bubble was anchored to the target though.
Definitely Panic and echo… together.
This is a shameless bump.
I just wanted a word of acknowledgement. (“Ok” or “Gotcha” would be fine)
Even though we were able to get to the dialog in the last room and the icons were displayed on the minimap and over the cannons. Detha never started repairing the cannons. She just stood in the middle of them.
Just FYI. Keep up the good work. I love your game.
I don’t think that the gods and the dragons are the same I was just stating that if you’re going to relate them, you should do it properly.
Life -> Dwayna / Corrupted Life -> Zhaitan
Fire -> Balthazar / Corrupted Fire -> Primordius
Beauty -> Lyssa / Corrupted Beauty -> Kralkatorrik
Ice -> Grenth / Corrupted Ice -> Jormag
Magic -> Abaddon / Corrupted Magic -> Bubbles
Nature -> Melandru / Corrupted Nature -> Nr. 6Bubbles uses magic?
Abaddon would fit Zhaitan in the way that whoever came into touch with Abaddons magic during their Lifetime would end up his servant after death. That’s why Khilbron and Shiro show up in Nightfall as well. Zhaitan’s curse seems to be similar to that. And maybe he wanted Abaddons Items because of that. To power up his curse and corrupting the living so that they rise when they die and become his servants. He doesn’t turn living creatures into zombies. He does it after they died.
Abaddon has no specific alliance undead, he pushed the vizier into unleashing both undead and the titans. He pushed the witch into corrupting Shiro’s mind, unleashing the jade wind and eventually releasing the affliction, which is not undeath. Furthermore, remember that Palawa Joko (king of the undead) helped us defeating him. Abaddon is the god of secrets, and Bubbles is a very secretive dragon.
So I keep saying
Life -> Dwayna / Corrupted Life(undead) -> Zhaitan
Fire -> Balthazar / Corrupted Fire(destroyers) -> Primordius
Beauty -> Lyssa / Corrupted Beauty(branded) -> Kralkatorrik
Ice -> Grenth / Corrupted Ice(ice touched) -> Jormag
Magic -> Abaddon / Corrupted Magic(?) -> Bubbles
Nature -> Melandru / Corrupted Nature(nightmare court?) -> Brambles
(edited by Ludovicus.7980)
A norn wouldn’t mate, even in a one night stand, with someone not worthy of him/her. I don’t know if they have open relationships or not. But finding someone with the same exact amount of glory of yours sounds quite difficult. I bet they don’t mate a lot.
In GW1, servers didn’t mean diddlysquat for lore.
In GW2, servers merely represent different worlds in WvW and otherwise means diddlysquat for lore.
Dat’s just about it. Servers is a mechanics thing.
Yea I don’t really understand where this notion of each server representing an alternate world came from.
Different servers represent different worlds to every extent, even lore.
I don’t think that the gods and the dragons are the same I was just stating that if you’re going to relate them, you should do it properly.
Life → Dwayna / Corrupted Life → Zhaitan
Fire → Balthazar / Corrupted Fire → Primordius
Beauty → Lyssa / Corrupted Beauty → Kralkatorrik
Ice → Grenth / Corrupted Ice → Jormag
Magic → Abaddon / Corrupted Magic → Bubbles
Nature → Melandru / Corrupted Nature → Nr. 6
Abaddon certainly won’t be seen in the near future. because after Zhaitan we’ll probably have to take care of the other elder dragons first. And if they bring back Abaddon, they’ll have to bring back the other Five (and Kormir) back as well. Since they kinda go together. But only 1 race believes in those gods. So wouldn’t the story become too human centred? It already is pretty focused on the human race. Abaddon’s temple, Grenth’s reaper, the last few story missions taking place in Orr, a human kingdom etc.
Also, in one of the last few missions, there was a norn saying something along the lines of ‘Norn help you, because if Zhaitan can be beaten, maybe Jormag is next’. This implies that we will have to fight through all 4, 5 or 6 Elder Dragons.
Aaaand: What if there really are 6 ED and 6 human gods? What if each ED is only compatible with the magic of one of the 6 gods?
Zhaitan – Abaddon (Abaddon had something similar to undead servants)
Primordeus – Balthasar (Fire)
Jormag – Grenth (Ice)
Deep Sea Dragon – Lyssa (Aparently she’s the goddess of water now. It said so in human character creation)
Krakaltorrik – Dwayna (he was able to scorch the ground by merely flying over it. So maybe his corruption spreads through air, which Dwayna patrons over).
Nr 6 – Melandru (plant based god for a plant based ED).
Life → Dwayna / Corrupted Life → Zhaitan
Fire → Balthazar / Corrupted Fire → Primordius
Chaos → Lyssa / Corrupted Chaos → Kralkatorrik
Ice → Grenth / Corrupted Ice → Jormag
Magic→ Abaddon / Corrupted Magic → Bubbles
Nature → Melandru / Corrupted Nature → Nr. 6
Well that might be the case for Guild Wars too, considering the Pale Tree’s line during the personal story step A Light in the Darkness about how the future is always changing.
The whole multiple dimensions and time travel effects are still fairly up in the air, all we know is that the Mists connects all places and all times, so through them travel to any place at any time is possible.
I’m not talking about time travel nor possible futures. I’m talking about all the game servers which exist in parallel.
In GW1 there were only 5 gods (then 6) to all the servers. Even when you fight against Abaddon, you see only the gods’ avatars, since they cannot be in more than one place at a time. Only one sever had the favor of the gods and that was it.
If the gods have not gotten copies of themselves in these 250 years, there are only 6 gods to look after the current 52 servers (a quantity that might increase over time)
We could make some kind of asuran Risk where your goal is to conquer Tyria? :P
And yes, nothing confirmed, but my money is on the steam creatures being developed at some point in the future. They may or may not be related to that asura story (potential future) then, but some kind of alternate universe is certainly possible.
A fractal of the mists maybe?
Now consider the mists and the multiverse. There are only 6 gods for all the servers/realms/alternate Tyrias. And there are 6 dragons in each realm, meaning there are 52 worlds x 6 dragons, that is 312 elder dragons. Since we killed Zaitan, there are only 260 left. Anyway… Abaddon was able to corrupt yahai in every realm of the multiverse, and the dragons did only corrupt their own realm.
The power of the dragons does compare to the power of the gods. I mean 312 elder dragons against 6 gods is a tough fight. The gods must rely on the own worlds fighting the dragons since there are way too many.
Or maybe the dragons’ existence transcends the multiverse, meaning they’re only 6 of them, but present on every version of Tyria as pentadimensional beings. Not likely…
Abaddon is way more powerful than any separate dragon, he’s way more powerfull than the sum of all the ED of any separate Tyria.
This reminds me of something I was puzzling over with regards to the Mists and Worlds. Since each server (Fort Aspenwood, Tarnished Coast, Blacktide etc.) is akin to a separate world, with each of these worlds battling in the Mists for domination and (presumably) the Favour of the Gods, is each World essentially a clone universe of each other?
By that extension, does that mean that there are actually infinite copies of Primordus/Jormag/Zhaitan, but only one of each god? If so, considering how powerful the Elder Dragons are, what would happen if 2, 10, or 100 Jormags were to travel to the Mists and assault the gods themselves?
I don’t think that the dragons can reach the mists, but it’s important to remember that the power of the dragons rival the power of the gods. So they cannot fight every dragon in every world (server).
On the other hand, they appear to have drained some of Zaitan’s power while they lived in Arah. That means that they drained it multiple times since there are multiple versions of Arah. The gods are very powerful indeed. Abaddon was so powerful that he corrupted every version of the world, while the dragons only corrupted their version of the world.
Having played through this particular fractal several times now – I noted that the colossus sort of vanishes the way our characters do when we traverse to the next fractal. Makes me think that he isn’t a re-creation of a “real world” entity, but is a traveler of the mists as we are and was somehow captured by the Archdiviner and his minions.
That sound plausible… It’d be fine that way. Dr manhattan can do anything anyway.
I wish these “pianos”(at least the quaggan organ) didn’t had any CD for using the keys. I press a key and then 0.5 CD.. you can’t play anything that is slightly faster..
They didn’t have any CD at game release, I played ocarina of time and other songs just for the amusement of my fellow players standing around. It’s a shame the CD was added.
setting it to stack duration unfortunately would turn it into a weaker poison, mesmers have little trouble keeping a stack of confusion up at all times if they build around it, we need the stacks for damage more than duration
I don’t know why would you compare this to poison. I’m describing a mechanic that punishes you for not paying enough attention. Why would you compare that with poison?
I’m asking the next skill to backfire at you if you have confusion on.
I was thinking on these new terms for confusion:
- Stackeable in time, not intensity.
- Ends its effect on skill activation.
- Damage dealt = Activated skill damage & conditions.
It’d work like something between blindness and feedback.
Thoughts?
(edited by Ludovicus.7980)
Or just allow only 5 people to cross the portal and then it’s gone. That’d be great in pve, dungeons and so and it would be a huge nerf in wvw
Or it could dissipate only on hit or conditon removal.
I mean, if confusion lasted 1 minute but it only affected the next attack skill and then it dissipated you could stack confussion safely and it wouldn’t be that overpowered, because your target could try to get rid of confussion by removing it or paying the price just once. That way the condition would be even more confusing, because if you keep attacking, the stacks would be small and it would behave like a bleed. But if you don’t attack and let it stack, the next attack you do can be quite damaging.
I remember the groups of hatchlings rushing towards dying ancient karka during the last fight. Seeing them being slaughtered one by one made me stop fighting. I just sat there and watched the final part thinking, if that annihilation was really necessary…
Yeah, it’s good that a game makes you think. It means it is complex enough.
I love creating a clone when they’re about to finish me. It’s so frustrating for them. Hahaha.
You can join me at northern shiverpeaks if you want to do this and you’re from this server. I’ll be there at the same time and place, but in my server.
Wow, this thread sunk like a rock…
Don’t you havy anything to say?
Let’s slaughter all the ancient and endangered species!!
I think the nightmare court is the worse threat. As far as we know, they could be the viny dragon (yet to be known of) minions and they could turn all the sylvari. We’ve seen that once a sylvari turns, there is no way back. For them it’s like turning undead.
I hoped this skill would be fixed with the latest patch. Anyway… I was thinking on the description of the bug. It says that the ether clone should be summoned weather the caster hits the target or not. That sounds like mirror images, but only with one image.
If the clone was summoned with the mirror images mechanic, that would be a great improvement to the skill, and would make the scepter much more useful because ether clone would break the target lock on you and create a clone at your side you could blend in with your “Ether Clone” clones more easily and those clones wouldn’t be needed to get a buff, since they don’t stack enough bleed nor any other condition.
Am I wrong? Am I right?
Discuss…
How about the option to change the color of the butterflies? I quite like them and the sound they make but can imagine that they are not particularly fitting for some characters. At least those could make them a more manly color like black…
I don’t know if it’d be good for us to choose the color of the shatter remains, because other classes need to know what’s happening. It totally should keep the purplish tone. But ravens, leaves, energy dots, broken glass… all of those sound great, I’m just sick of butterflies!
