Float like a bumblebee and sting like a butterfly.

Sorry but I enjoy it so I am not asking them to change it.

Not to change them for everyone, just to give people an option. It’d be great that they let you choose at the beginning, it’d be more significative than a mask that will last just a couple of levels.

Hello fellow players and devs. Today I want to talk about the iconic insect that represents this class.

First I want to speak about the idea behind the class, the college of denial. In the original GW, the mesmer was a denying kitten that didn’t let you do anything without suffering.
In GW2, the mesmer tries to fit in that theme with the clones and phantasms, denying the enemies’ attacks by letting them hit the illusions and even being able to punish the enemy for killing them.

I love the concept behind this, the mesmer is some kind of trickster. I can see a norn mesmer filling the role of Loki or something like that. The only problem, for me at least, are the butterflies.

I’m not against the class color, it’s the traditional one form GW1. I’m just against the kitten fluffy insects. It’d be great that the mesmer had the alternative to leave some other illusion trail, like purple broken glass, or just purple-whitish dots of energy. I’d buy that for gems or w/e.

I love my main class (mesmer) but I’m just getting sick of the butterflies…

just saying…

The seed Ronan found for the pale tree was in a cave filled with stalkers, so the possibility of them being at least somewhat related is there.
Wouldn’t really say “evolved from” exactly, but there’s likely some connection.

Where’s the tale of Ronan finding the seed?

Go to Arbor Bay (EOTN) and you can find the NPC’s and the young pale tree.

I’ve been there, but he doesn’t tell the tale, he’s just standing there. Ventari talks a little.

For those that have played Guild Wars- Prophecies you may have ran in to a biped walking plant called a Thorn Stalker, I was wondering if they could be a proto-species of sylvari?

I don’t know. May be the thorn stalkers came from a proto-white tree. I now they were near the territory of the druids, but I now nothing about their origin.

Q1. I know there are some new gods, so who is new? I think, for one of them, Grenth sealed Dhuum into the underworld and now Grenth is the god of uh…death? I’m not entirely sure

A1. Dhuum was the god of death and doom. He didn’t let anyone resurrect. Grenth, son of Dwayna and arguably a human sculptor, defeated him and took his place as the god of death, ice and justice.
Abbadon was the god of magic and secrets, Kormir took his place as the goddess of truth.
The first time Balthazar appeared he had his father head on his hand. It’s been theorized that he took his father was the former god of war.

Q2. A lot of people say that the gods have abandoned humans. Does this mean in GW1 they were PHYSICALLY roaming the lands of Tyria?

A1. The years in tyrian history are marked by the day the gods stopped roaming the lands of tyria. It’s been 1300 years more or less since the gods left tyria. But their avatars had helped humanity through the ages. Maybe because they were afraid of what Abbadon was capable of or maybe for other reasons. The thing is that their avatars are gone now too.

Q3. According to what has been said, the dragons know the other one exists, but they don’t bother each other? So they’re neither allies nor enemies unless one tries to overtake the other?

A3. I don’t know the answer for that question

Q4. What is the story behind the Pale Tree? From what I’ve gathered, a human (I forget his name) planted the seed and took care of the Pale Tree? Then someone else made the Ventari tablet? Which, for some reason, I keep thinking its a centaur.

A4. Ronon got a special seed from the druids and planted it, the druids were some kind of avatar spirits of melandru that roamed the land. Ronon retired from war and befrended a centaur called Ventari, that eventually outlived him and wrote the ventari tablets as a testament of the centaur-human peace.

Q5. Whatever happened to Kormir?

A5. She was captured while fighting Varesh Ossa and a demon ate her eyes, later she defeated Abbadon and took his power away, becoming a goddess

Q6. How do Sylvari keep being reproduced? I’m confused as to the whole “the dream” thing and how none of them have children. Can they even shag one another?

A6. They do not sexually reproduce, they just sprout from the pale tree. They can adopt younglings and paternize them but they do not get pregnant.

Q7. The dragon that you see in the Sylvari dream when you first create a Sylvari toon, is that the same dragon you fight in Lions Arch?

A7. It migth be a representation of it. It might be a dreammy way to say that you’ll need to fight dragons in your outer life or It might be an actual viny dragon champion from the viny dragon that’s theorized that should exist but that we’ve never heard about.

Q8. What is the story of Orr? I don’t exactly remember this in GW1, or if it was even mentioned. Was it a place filled with just humans?

A8. Orr was mentioned in the GW1 game manual mostly, and in the prophecies story-line. It was one of the 3 human kingdoms, along with Kryta and Ascalon. It was where the gods were living until they left. When the charr invaded Ascalon, they went through the crystal desert and invaded Orr too. The vizier Kel’bron opened a forbiden book of magic that defeated the charr, turned all orrians into undead and sunk the peninsula. 200 years later, when Zhaitan awoke, he raised the peninsula again, creating huge tidal waves that destroyed the former city of Lion’s Arch among others.

Q9. People say the charr don’t worship gods, yet they have something called “Titans”? I’m not familiar with this

A9. The charr where roflstomped by the humans and their gods, in an act of desperation they seek power everywhere. They, found the titans (idk how) and the titans offered them power and gave them a cauldron that made them able to destroy most of Ascalon in the event known as the searing. Later on, the heroes from Ascalon destroyed the titans, rendering the charr powerless again. The char embraced the destroyers as gods and as their new source of magic which were vanquished too. The charr started despising the term god from that repeated experience.

What's the story behind the war in the mists?

in Lore

Ludovicus.7980

If things are similar to how they were in GW1. The fights in the mists are meant to please the gods, Balthazar in particular. It’s not that he wants to see a spectacle of carnage, It’s more about attuning with him. Balthazar’s true nature can only be revealed in battle. In GW1, whoever controlled the mists had the favor of the gods. I was like a trial of battle in which the gods decide who deserves better, based on their valor.

Asura gates are powered by a mystical energy from deep within the world, as the asura gates use it up the planet becomes less dense, and has less gravity. This technology eventually develops into safe power and a large city is made using the benefits of this cheap and efficient power.

But then a small group of rebels finds out where these things are getting their power and start blowing them up to save the planet. Shenanigans happen and it all ends up with some crazy long haired maybe-but-not-quite-dead nut with a sword summoning a meteor to add more density to the planet (and somehow become a god) the meteor takes a really really long time to strike the planet because of the lack of gravity. The evil sword guy hangs out in a crater in the Far Shiverpeaks like a Wiley boss, gets himself killed. And then the world is saved…maybe…who the kitten knows.

You forgot the part in which giant monster awaken to wipe the wolrd’s population due to the damage done to the planet. One in the ocean, one in the desert, one in the shiverpeaks and other one flying… OMG the elder dragons!!

…ya…

…we did break the world.

Hahaha, priceless…

that’s what you’re asking.

Well… if a hurricane had minions who could speak English, sure. Zhaitan has minions who are obviously intelligent and have conversations with the PC. It seems if Zhaitan’s minions are capable of intelligence, so should Zhaitan be.

And destroying the world is pretty hefty and evil, and not really natural. Lions don’t wake up and say “LETS KILL EVERYTHING ON THE SAVANNAH” they just try to satisfied a basic need: hunger.

So what is driving Zhaitan’s desire to destroy the world? Hope that makes sense!

Well, locusts wake up and say “LETS EAT EVERYTHING” It’s something like that. Zhaitan woke up an said “LET’S TURN EVERYTHING UNDEAD, LET’S EAT ALL THE MAGIC”

WvW takes place on a dedicated battlefield in the Mists, and lore is far less of an issue in PvP, for me at least. The Dredge mines are never established as purely feeding a war effort, and to be honest, I never got that impression playing early Norn areas.

what do you think they’re mining for? trade?

Housing maybe?

if that was the case, they wouldn’t have hostile guards attacking everyone on sight, and they definitely wouldn’t have stayed there after the initial attacks.

Can't find the Lore in GW2

in Lore

Posted by: Ludovicus.7980

Ludovicus.7980

It might just be that I’m woefully behind in my personal story, but I’m now beating up Branded “X” and I wonder “Where the heck did these come from?”.

In GW1 story advancement was gated behind the missions. So you found out where the Afflicted were coming from, or what Varesh was up to, etc all in portioned out bits. The open world concept of GW2 means that I could be 80, all decked out in legendaries and have yet to do any of my personal story aside from the tutorial zone.
A friend of mine said that he’d never thought an open world concept could be so immersion breaking.
“Why am I beating up these guys, taking their helmets and pushing these buttons? I don’t know but the little heart on the side of my display says to. I never talked to anyone about why these are bad people, or why their helmets are so desperately needed, but the heart says kill them and take the helmets so off I go.”
I kind of see his point. I like the scouts. They are great! I just don’t NEED to talk to them unless I’m completing an area and can’t find all the hearts.

ANYWAY, back on my own topic… Is the lore all contained in the personal story?

Next time, instead of going straight for the hearts, try talking with the scouts first, they brief you enough to understand the world around you.

It is a shame that they don’t speak if you’ve already done all the hearts.

I wouldn’t mind a scout telling me "remember the old days when you did this… " and resuming the normal briefing.
