I wanted to add my opinion of the dredge themself. I have posted a short comment about the terrible fractal before.

I understand that players using blind are being annoyed that it doesn’t work on them. But it is something that makes you change your combat style. I don’t think that’s too bad once in a while. It’s like a boss you have to melee as a player prefering range or playing range when specialized in melee.
The same can be said about the boons. There are skills and traits to remove boons and they aren’t used often in PvE. They work on the dredge just fine if you wait for the right time. You have to wait for the buffing one to finish his skills duration or interupt it before you remove his and his allies boons.

Motivation just got hit hard by nightcapping again…

It’s not even about the points for me, it’s about the wood vs steel and the incredible advantage of supply. I mean yeah, i was pretty kitten ed this morning when a possible interesting matchup was destroyed again but…
I’d like to defend, well wood doors are open in 1s….
I’d like to attack, well we need 20+ golems and a big mindless zerg…

I hope the nightcapping doesn’t happen that much after the season ends. It wasn’t that bad anymore before it started.

To our defense i’d like to say that we don’t have any dedicated nightcapping crew. The ones that play at night are those who must be sufering from insomnia so they will die in 4 days tops

Oh, a little late but okay. Try feeding them some more coffee to speed things up.

I personally can’t imagine cards as weapons because of two reason:
1. They are too small. You can’t make many different skins for them and most off the time you would hold them in a hand even less appealing than focus right now.
2. I can’t imagine any card related illusions.

Fans on the other hand are more likely. They could be wind themed and open up some interesting new options. Anet didn’t create any fan like looking focus probably to have this option.

Thaumanova: how is this the same facility?

I found the Thaumanova Fractal disappointing for a completely different reason.

Whenever I visit the reactor today, I find myself wistfully staring into the sealed-off area to the West (with the waterfalls in). I fully expected to be able to go there when I visit the fractal.

The reactor map from the fractal is completely different from the reactor today, however, and to be honest, I have no idea how one morphed into the other. Where are the poison, water and ice chambers? Or, I don’t know, the floor? Is this really supposed to be the same facility? How?!

I imagine the facility we see in the fractal is the underground part of the open world facility. The asura building a plate on it to stop the radiation to come out makes sense. Back than the facility had no roof but afterwards they built not only one. They built the floor of the open world facility and a roof above that to contain the left over radiation. When we now stop the shield and jump into the light we would get to the fractal area but because of the dense chaos magic we will be portet instead.

I don’t know if something like this is mentioned or contradicted ingame.

I found the Thaumanova Fractal disappointing for a completely different reason.

Rework of achievements, finishers, the wallet.
New Maps for sPvP.
WXP and an slight rework on the borderlands in WvW.
Guildmissions, Laurels, new areas, new minigames.

Enjoyed Season 1: No.
Should we have a Season 2: Changed perhaps yes.

Season 1 really messed up some things in wvw. It seems some server just don’t care to fight. It’s all about points again, not about fighting the enemy.

Your server is activ at the evening? Well okay have our border we will take it and all your land back in the night when we know you’re not awake any more. You want to fight something? Take these few twinks to fight you so you’re bored even more.

How often did i see a bigger enemy zerg port out of a tower just to take over a different tower…

So in the new fractal the one we should not talk about said: "At least they helped identify the network of magical channels that crisscross the globe. That was a breakthrough. "

Is this the same as the one on the glob in the wispers HQ? Is there a hidden hint what it is which I missed?
I haven’t checked the globe but i believe I remember its lines match the discription. One being right under thaumanova but not being under CoE.

I’m playing mesmer without any condi removal most of the time. Where is this condispam you are talking about? Only one i could agree is in the 3rd of the tower but that’s not that much… unless you’re trying to skip all mobs.
Dodge always helps.

I think the problems with Scarlet are within the Queens Speech. She shouldn’t have been revealed that way. In Queens Jubilee we got a nasty unknown. It was interesting.
Right after, we get to see her completly crazy side and beat her up shortly after… (multiple times in the invasions). And that stuck to be her character for some.

With weapons below level 80 you can always use your cheap transmutation stones to change the look. You should have gotten some while playing the personal story or map completion by now.

I agree with the OP, boon removal right now isn’t strong enough to make a difference. You can bring 10 Nekros and 10 Mesmers and create an area where no boon stays but the enemy just needs to leave that area and after 10 secondes they just buff themself again. Counters to boon removal? Buff yourself again! Removal isn’t like an autoattack, after you did it most of the time you have a cd.

If you think only organized groups buff themself before they engage you’re wrong. Even public commanders use it, small scalers use it, everyone uses it. That’s really nothing special to organized guild raids.

There are reasons why guards, warriors and eles are so important in the actual meta. One of them is the ability to stack many boons in a short time.

The runes should be nerfed. At the same time every confusion skill should be looked at. Longer duration on all mesmer skills for example… Like these riff drakes, they have incredible good confusion. Some skill should just apply more confusion than right now. Back when confusion was nerfed, i expected an overhaul of all the skills and traits connected to it soon after. After i saw the runes, i expected it again…

It just sucks that you have to use these runes to make confusion worth it. Runes should advance builds not create them!

Okay let’s say you want the signet mesmer to be a thing.
First step to do is to rework most signets. Right now they don’t have any synergy with each other and some don’t even have synergy with themself.

There are limited uses where you need passiv and activ of the signets.
The best one in my opinion is Signet of Inspiration. Passiv gives boons, activ spreads them.

  • Signet of Domination – Passive: Improved condition damage. Active: Stun your foe. You can use it in an condition build but most of the time you avoid using it. You can use it in an interupt build but there only the activ is interesting. If you want signets to be a defensiv option, make the passiv something like the runes of melandru > less stun duration
  • Signet of Illusions – Passive: Grants more health to your illusions.Active: Recharge your shatter skills.
    Passiv and activ kind of contradict each other. The activ should probably be changed to something else, so you have the passiv still acts in a defensiv way. Perhaps this would be a good skill to have condi removal in a future signet build.
  • Signet of Midnight – Passive: Improves boon duration. Active: Blind nearby foes.
    The passiv already has some synergy with Inspiration so it should stay. Looking at a build you would need a stun breaker here.
  • Traits – Signet Mastery, Blurred Inscriptions and Cleansing Inscriptions are in 3 different lines. Mastery and Cleansing should be combined to be strong. Blurred Inscriptions is probably the only reason some would even think about a signet build so it is already strong. To add another depth to signet there could be a trait created which adds different stat buffs to every signet.

Even after changes like these i’m not sure signet could be called a build on it’s on.

  • Far-Reaching Manipulations – Good for blink mostly but the weakest of all traits in this position. Should be combined with Master of Manipulation.
  • Retaliatory Demise – Whaaaat?
  • Cleansing Inscriptions – Should be combined with Signet Mastery.
  • Confusing Cry – I don’t know, the minor trait Illusionary Retribution (adds a cof to every shatter) seems to be a better buff to Cry of Frustration than this.
  • Imbued Diversion – Not on Grandmaster level.

Some glamour traits better be combined, too.

Voting Mesmer…yes being the portal/veil bot has its uses but outside of that, ehh. On the 2 servers have played on have seen multiple times where a call has been made by commander of zerg for Veil/portal only to realize not a single mesmer in entire zerg. Usually later it’s followed by “I can get on my mesmer if you really need one.”

If a commander asks about mesmer, it’s probably to port golems. That’s the moment i get quiet and stealth away.

Some guys in here seem to have made different experiences.

Fact: Shatter builds work in wvw sized battles.

And my experience is that izerker gets its attack off more often than not.

When changing skills and designing new ones try to think about more options of boon removal. Right now there are limited options to remove boons. They work fine in small scale fights on some classes.
But it lacks power against classes or builds which utilise boons. That’s where it would be needed to be powerful!

Let’s look at these skills…
On Mesmer:
Null Field – This skill is great for supporting someone fighting in melee range but it’s unlikly some enemy will stay in it longer than 2 ticks and if you want to use it’s ability to cleans yourself you will probably have to switch to a ranged weapon. It’s good but it’s also a double edged sword. Use it on an enemy for little boon remove or use it on yourself because most of the time you don’t bring more condi removal.
Arcane Thievery – This skill is great in 1vs1s which isn’t that good.. mesmer are already powerful enough in that and there are stronger utility skills to take. Its most weakening point is probably the long CD and/or the limited effect. Why not exchange all conditions & boons? If your fighting a stronger condiclass it isn’t that strong and against ele/guards which are buffing themselve all the time it’s also not really impressiv.
Phantasmal Disenchanter – It’s less used for removing boons than for removing conditions.
Mind Stab – This skill is getting better and better but the boon removal isn’t really that important on it. It wouldn’t hurt to remove more than 1 boon.
Mind Spike – This skill can get pretty nice taking in account that clones use it to. Great to have on an autoattack.
On shatter (traited) – The only way ingame to build around boon removal. On a shatter mesmer, this is the strongest way to remove boons in every kind of fight. Works in 1vs1 up to the largest wvw fights.

On Nekro:
Spinal Shivers – This skill isn’t bad at all.
Corrupt Boon – This is really nice, it can break heavy boon classes in a moment and will be the most powerful on a condimancer. In bigger fights it gets less important but can still be used to focus a single enemy or use him to target Epidemic.
Well of Corruption – This is very much like Null Field only that it’s purely offensiv which in my eyes is superior. You use this skill to attack and you know it the moment you equip it.

At the end of the day i’d say if you just want to make the opponent suffer from boon removal, nekro is the stronger choice. Mesmer will only remove boons but else there is no added value and most utility skills will backfire because you lose a condi removal when used to strip boons.

It would really help to break the meta of fully buffed zergs in wvw to add some new options of strong aoe boon removal.

How about skills that remove exactly (this boon) instead of (a boon)?
Remove swiftness could be balanced more like crippling.

Lol blink selfish? If you dont have any stunbreaker with shatter build you’ll be most likely kittened 90% of the fights.

Melee trains do NOT, I repeat NOT rely having everyone on the commander. Melee trains are also known as front line. Every organised zerg got a melee train and a backline. The therm melee came from stacking up massive numbers wars and guards what was really op in start game and the most efficient cause shouts heals had no cap on players.

Video is a bit old, but I guess you can get to know what your movement should look like. Though since you get more damage now you also get retal dmg from blurred frenzy you should spec a bit more defensive. Aim between 1500-1600 toughness and at least 1200 vitality. Guard stacks (250 vit) should help a lot covering the low vitality.

Basicly almost only difference is gears.

Did you try to take the remove boons on shatter trait? (in the power build)
I take the energy regeneration buff food and have mirror images instead of null field. I can shatter all the time.
Only way to remove conditions is to get into a waterfield or getting screamed at by your warriors unfortunately. :/

I’m also using mirror to heal because the reflection helps reducing damage (+ adds a damage output) + lowers the chance of an interupt.

It seems we get more silver now. They probably replaced the badges with silver. Good stuff. On most merchants one badge is like one silver anyway. Having 10k badges or more is just pointless in the rest of the game…

One skill on the ranger won’t change much. It’s funny how some thiefs cry about it.
4s on 40s cd.
If every class has at least one skill like that you could start, but having it doesn’t mean they have it equiped. On the good side, it won’t affect pve at all. Lucky thiefs!

Why are points or map coverage or winning a matchup fun?
Just play the game and enjoy it. I really don’t get those who transfer to a more populated server. You can enjoy fights on middle tier without staying in a queue most of the time.

sPvP: make runes not connected with armor

If you’re playing sPvP and want to change the runes on your armor you have to use every rune one by one to every armor pieces. It will take some time and you can always missclick at a point and have to go to the armor merchant to buy additional runes.

Perhaps there could be just rune slots instead, which can not only be filled one by one, but you can put a stack of runes from your inventory into to fill them all at the same time.

True.
But i still don’t get why you want to remember the “heros” from back then. They just did all kinds of jobs. It’s much better to remember the people who gave those quests and that’s done. The “heros” did everything back then and you can’t tell a tale like that.
Ebonhawk is completely a tribute to GW1. And it’s a great deal of content. So are the ghosts. The war in Kryta, was just that, a war 250 years ago, most cultures don’t really talk about that all the time. Mursaat are mostly known by the shining blade which are more like the humans secret organisation.
If you put more into it, you have no room for new stuff and the areas we can visit aren’t connected with many regions from GW1. It would be nice to get more lore in general into the game but i don’t see any reason to just add gw1 references. Things like the Marriner Plaques are nice.

Another problem with gw1 related storys are the players. Most wouldn’t like a simple ending to one of their favorite storys. So the devs have to make it big and shiny and understandable for players that don’t know gw1.

Was it really that important what happend back then?
The heros fought undead, like everyone else.
They worked for both sides of the war, which is strange.
They helped an lich to get an mighty artefact, later killed him after he freed some monsters with it and they fought the monster invasion.
Do you really think that’s a good story to tell?

Reminder: We can’t even visit the more important places of gw1s storyline.

On the other side we have Ascalon, full of ghosts from the past. Zephrites which are connected to glint. And many, many hints at gw1.

what if the real issue is warrior dps and guardian support? rather than people kicking multiple rangers and necros?

Or necros need to start looking at utility skills and not just spam staff 1?

Staff 1 isn’t even good enough to be spammed unless there are multiple mobs in a row. What makes you think they only spam that one?

Because they couldn’t handle ground targeting? I don’t want to know how those people operate.

Staff #1 is a really bad example, but Scepter #1 works .

It’s easy really, remove permastealth thiefs ability to join wvw and everyone is happy.

To add something useful:
I don’t care being beaten by an enemy i can see. You can figure out how to beat most enemies simply by seeing what they do, when they do.
Also think about it like that, when your often being seen and are weaker than before, you could expect some not used skills being buffed.
