I’m familiar with that argument—it’s been trolled out ad nauseum. I acknowledge that there’s less pride in it but reject the idea that there’s not ample reason to defend it. The only time it takes no investment is when there’s no pressure on camps and no one attacks it mid-upgrade—not a situation that happens often.
It’s not like you, as a commander (if you are who I recall), had any direct role in upgrading old-style Garri that you don’t still have for Ramparts. I simply can’t believe that the gold/karma of some other player was such a huge part of the motivation to defend it.
A better argument talks about the WP changes, though I think the good outweighs the bad there.
taking aside the argument that investment leads to more defense, manual upgrades was more fun because if no one took the time to upgrade towers they weren’t, so that lead to small teams constantly flipping camps, towers as havoc causing irritation. Now upgrades happen automatically to camps, towers, keeps so T3 is harder for small teams to flip so havoc team size is more. I am not saying get rid of scout mechanic from hot or re-introduce gold to cost of manual upgrade but having someone chose next upgrade from tiers is something simple enough to use.

Size matters… In this case DBL is just TOO big & inconvenient to run because of gimmicks.
Alpine: Spawn to first objective to attack or defend was 10-15 secs? Second objective was another 10-15 sec, third objective was another 10-15 sec, 4th objective from attacking spawn was long ways and at maybe 1 min of running MAX.
DBL: I fall asleep trying to count.

I think 1-3 are solid ideas. I don’t have enough experience with Chilling Fog to weigh in on 4, but I imagine it’s also a solid idea.
With 5, I like the part about making the war room less of a grind and also wish that it could be done mainly or completely in WvW. I disagree with the part about making +5 supply easily available, though. The extra supply is extremely powerful and merits being one of the crowning achievements of the war room.
I completely disagree with 6. As the person that was often popping those upgrades, I greatly appreciate not only the lack of a gold cost but also the tiered upgrades rather than one thing at a time. I’d be sort of ok with having to give a ‘go ahead’ for each tier, but I don’t think that reverting the system will suddenly make people excited about defending.

Since Alpine maps are delayed till atleast summer and we have to live with HoT mechanics on DBL/EBG please provide specifics they can remove/adjust so it’s bearable for few months.
Following helpful HoT mechanics should be kept:
1) Sentry displaying enemy on mini map is a nice way to give defenders information on enemy movement and increases the value of sentry
2) Watchtower upgrade allows server to free up some scouts so people don’t have to stand at structure, and instead can fight/play other roles. I would hate for someone to have to stand at watergate keeping eye for golem rush.
3) Commander UI – Keep it and add more functionality if possible
Please remove following HoT mechanics from Alpine BLs before revert.
In meantime please remove or tone down the following:
1) Turtle Banner- Banners like turtle etc need significant nerf or removed entirely
2) SMC Airship Defense – remove entirely or reduce how long it lasts & increase cd
3) SMC Cloaking Waters – Stealth from fountains that lasts way too long and ridiculously OP. It’s like legitimizing culling from launch.
4) Chilling Fog – Increase CD & reduce duration of how long it lasts
5) War room – Make it easier to unlock war room and reduce costs to upgrade it so that even small guilds can unlock WvW upgrades significantly faster. Things like +5 supply camp should be available easily.
6) Remove auto upgrades to structures – Don’t auto upgrade structure and instead remove gold cost from upgrades and allow people to select what upgrade to do like before. This will bring back the importance of defending and losing structures will actually mean something. This also gave some strategy to supply, chosing between building more siege vs repairing walls vs upgrading etc.
7) Reduce health of keep bosses including SMC

Some servers have been taking breaks for last few weeks to try to game the population numbers at launch to go from FULL to very high. Anet can you please make sure servers that are full stay full for atleast a month after launch so new players fill up T2-3. It will help population balance & make people that tried to game the system a little dumb. Win-Win!

Have you thought about trying out new maps with general population and give everyone a taste of the new map for a weekend? You could reset the scores on Monday and reverts the maps or just keep the scores going and reset it, doesn’t matter. You would get alot more testers, reports on exploits etc before launch. And those that fall in love with WvW again might buy expansion.

Biggest issue is rewards it seems —
Please rewards track similar to pvp tied into Wxp level rewards. Different rewards and not just 2 greens+badges. Leveling tomes, exotics, ectos, wvw claim tickets, guild siege blue prints etc!

Before release? The biggest things I can think of that seem like they could be simple to implement;
- Bringing back Points Per Kill.
- Allowing people to transfer for discount/free to lower pop servers.
- Adding more stuff to buy with badges.
- Stopping people from building siege in the corners of invuln zones.
I agree with all these points and have listed them in order of importance for me. PPK allows for more wvw then worrying about ppt. Allowing players to move to lower tiers without cost is good but anyone that wants to be in lower tiers is already there.

rewards , i have 30k badges which i have no intention of using on the trash i can get for that, the time i would spend on upgrading the siege to get at least some gold is better spend on running dungeons and get more gold in the same time
this is true. I wish we could buy certain runes/sigils with badges of honors as well as they tie in directly to WvW or with legendary mats coming up I hope we can covert WvW badges to these new mats.

I lost about 10 guild catas and 2 guild trebs today as well when trying to place them on ground… There is a bug right now destroying siege. not sure exactly how it works but blueprints are disappearing when equipped

Spying/trolling is not the only concern. Imagine F2P players from at guild decide to make 40-50 alts and level on another server together. Then they just use the alts once a month or something to keep the population level manipulated. People do stupid things if you give them the ability. EOTM has instances and hopefully doesn’t affect wvw population for servers so free players should be restricted to EOTM.

Please limit free accounts to EOTM. It is one of the easiest ways to control them trolling WvW. Otherwise you will need to restrict supply carry, commander tags, upgrades etc for them in WvW which will be more complicated. Restriction to EOTM only will entice them to purchase the game more if they like WvW and want to help their server ‘win’. Level to 60 before WvW is not a restriction at all for serious trollers.

gl! just a thought. if u want diversity you can wait to see what yb does to t1/t2 within next 2 weeks. spread out in t2 and it will be a rotation of 6 servers for ocx/sea since t1 already has ocx/sea. then you don’t have to worry about lower servers moving up etc. T1 are locked and eventually t2 will be locked and glicko for top 6 servers should be close after yb leeches off remaining 2 t1 servers and whoever drops will lose rating to fa/sos cuz t1 isn’t that stacked in NA anymore.
or t3 is already gvg scene for na. spread there and don’t ppt and servers shouldn’t move up/down.

they don't know their game modes... which is why they should test stuff and request feedback on macro changes....Well this is what happens when a company has little understanding of their own game mode and the player-base that plays that game mode. Heck anet seems to be the only ones who couldn’t see the fiasco that would emerge from this event. What I never understand is when they post their own wvw test/preview videos with 20 people running around, when in reality wvw can have hundreds of people within map range of each other. Well no wonder they never seem to understand the lag and balance problems. Proper testing and a little common sense would go a long way.

When you launched eotm you made a big deal about how you will be able to test different things… now you put in changes to live WvW ex: golem kittenent… So why even have eotm? for leveling alts? Please don’t do stupid week long events in wvw that drastically affect the combat and mechanics. ppk has been successfully tested. but golem’s being kittenedly op… meh.
But this was not a test event so it has no relevance to anything in this post. If it was a test event, it would be something that anet would be considering bringing into wvw later. This is just a “for fun” event that will not be in wvw later. I am not saying that anet has done a good job using eotm as a testing ground but this golem event has nothing to do with testing.

Well unless I’m missing something about any upcoming wvw changes, the current golem event doesnt have anything thats in testing, so its all just a temporary event therefore its not really a testing trial. In regards to say just having the event test in eotm then trying it in wvw, I cant imagine that ever happening. Implement in eotm, gauge feedback and then determine whether or not to implement for real wvw, sounds like more work then they would want to put in and would probably cause more problems then it currently is.
Personally speaking I would prefer they leave this gimmicky crap in eotm, because I have no desire to login to do anything because if I dont want to do wvw I dont want to play period, but thats just me so I’m basically not gonna bother with it.
I would prefer small changes once a while to spice things up but after feedback. changes like white swords, siege damage/health etc, upgrades etc could be easily tested in eotm so it doesn’t affect normal wvw maps. Especially after expansion. They just need to realize they can’t throw special events in wvw and not get people riled up.

Eotm unfortunately seems to be the testing grounds for more permanent content like the new map design, pve gimmick garbage events, layouts/layers, and ideas for ppt focus…They seem to think eotm is popular because of how its setup for its content, when in actuality people only go there to farm karma/gold/champs/and exp or just to waste time when your server is having a dead time.
People throwing around different theories for why the golem event was implemented, none of them really make much sense to me personally. Since its not a permanent feature, thankfully, it wouldnt make sense to just limit it to eotm.
I would hope that they are able to implement rules to eotm specifically. It would go something like this:
1) Anet Dev says let’s test Golems or play around with event timers etc
2) Anet Dev will announce that during week of ____ eotm has these special rules and wvw mist buff for rewards. give us feedback. what u like and what don’t you like
3) people can ‘test’ stuff out for anet in eotm during ‘off hours’ and help. people that just want to play live in wvw don’t get bugged by stupid ideas without testing.

I have an idea:
the We care about wvw event:
1) disable first person view for wvw
2) readjust the radius of ACs
3) examine whether or not the damage siege does is justified, what means people have to defend objectives and if that still is enough in times of blobs
4) fix bugs
5) try to find the source of lags and fix them
6) spend some time in wvw as a regular player and learn what wvw is all about
7) balance classes/conditions/damage etc etcThat would be an event I’d like.
Then we can talk about zeppelins, golem rushes, tanks or whatever.

Golems event is stupid and should be stopped ASAP. You have a map blob dropping omegas non stop and just ktraining everything. That is not fun. Majority of people that are enjoying this stupid event are PvErs who don’t WvW 5-6 hrs a day for the COMBAT. Stop interfering with the best thing about GW2 – It’s combat and ability for group play. Stop trying to ‘spice’ up WvW with silly kitten like this. Instead do quality work on stuff that regular WvW players have been asking you for since launch. Fix the kitten WvW achievements before expansion hits so they can be achieved within a person’s lifetime…

I can’t test it now, but I thought I read somewhere that CD had a shared cooldown across Guardians, so that once one Guardian’s CD activated, it would be 15 seconds before another Guardian’s could. That would prevent zergs from abusing the trait by stacking multiple Guardians and generating long chains of Aegis procs on the entire group. It makes sense and would push the choice back in favor of SiN, but it would be great if someone could confirm or deny that this is actually how the trait works.
Hmm. I will need to test this then. I hope not because then it’s useless…

Let’s say 2 guards in a 5 man party, both carry CD.
1/2) Guard 1 overwrites Guard 2’s aegis and CD didn’t give Guard 1 another aegis. Guard 2 blocks a new attack after Guard 1, reapplies aegis to guard 1, but no longer has aegis. The party members will either block 1 or 2 attacks, depending on when each CD procs. G1 can block a max 2 attacks, G2 can only block 1, party members can block 2 max.
3) G1 and G2 can each apply retreat for 2 more party wide blocks
4) after 15s CD is back up, and the next block (aegis or not) will proc the trait.
Multiple guards with CD can be fairly effective, but only if a) their cooldowns aren’t synched, and b) each application of aegis is used up, especially if there are aegis traits. 5 CD Guards with damage, retal, and healing on aegis in a tight group of 25 could be nasty to encounter. It’s also extremely effective at places like Teq, possibly doing over well 100k damage per guardian at the burn phases. (I’ve hit 100k+ pre patch, so I can only imagine how high it can go now)
a) It’s kinda hard to trigger aegis separately timing wise. Does popping virtue of courage remove passive aegis every 30 secs? Timing all other stuff is really hard though. Plenty of ways to get aegis and block with it.
b) I would imagine it would get used up. I am really not that into the heal on aegis or damage on aegis but if it can keep the group sustain would be better then SiN’s flat damage reduction.

The difference also applies to what traits you might have that proc on aegis, and the amount of dps taken by allies, both power and condi based.
Pure of voice, retal on aegis, and shattered aegis all push in favor of Communal defenses. Heavy condi damage does also (ignoring toughness, but conditions are applied by attacks, which aegis can stop and maybe proc additional traits). Frequent power damage pushes in favor of SiN, as aegis will only stop one hit every 15s at best, while the extra toughness will be available always.
Ultimately, there are a ton of factors that would go into that kind of decision.
Since putting up aegis on yourself isn’t a problem for guard its a guaranteed aegis on whole group every 15 sec. Even without shattered aegis or aegis heals etc I think it could be worth losing the 150 toughness. If you run 2 guards in party and they both have absolute resolution you get aegis every 30 secs passively. Retreat gives aegis to you and your party (30 sec icd), so does retalitatory subconcious (30 sec icd), Valorous Defense (30 sec icd), and shelter block will proc this too. So sources of aegis not a problem.
Am I correct in assuming the following:
1) 2 guardian party engages fight. Both carry passive aegis. The aegis blocks a attack. It procs the trait on both and everyone get’s another aegis.
2) Second guardian’s aegis triggers block and aegis refreshes again on everyone if they both aren’t attacked at exact same sec.
3) Guardians can then pop retreat to keep up another aegis/swiftness on everyone.
4) Melee resets after 10-15 secs and cycle starts over.
So it would be actually minimum of 4 attacks for guardians and 2 attacks for everyone else if you have both guards block instead of strength in numbers no?

Anyone done any testing in a group/raid setting on which is more helpful against higher numbers or more helpful in sustained fight? I understand communal defenses has 15sec ICD where kitten u can keep 150 strength from SiN 100% of time in party but which one you chose and why?
