We don’t see these kind of communications from dev’s in thief community.

Be honest: we don’t see enough of this in ANY profession board, Thief, Ranger, or whatever your class of choice is.

They’ve been doing slightly better lately with announcements followed by erratic commentary. If they committed to just a bi-weekly update in each of the 9 boards I think we’d all go straight to downed-state from shock.

Hey all.

I just returned from San Francisco and am going to crash hard from the busy weekend at Twitch Con very soon, but first I wanted to clarify something:

During the skill balance stream on Friday we weren’t able to go into depth or even talk about the reasons and expected results for changes we did reach due to time constraints[sub]1[/sub]. Because the June 23rd patch was mentioned during the stream many people seem to expect a patch of that size and magnitude.

This coming patch is NOT that big.

Tuesday’s patch will have those changes we discussed in the livestream, some bugfixes, and more, but it is a step in the right direction. It is not the end-all.

There shall be more.

1. (Although maybe Ice Bow 4 changes didn’t really need explanation)

Hey Irenio, I know this is the Ranger forums, but please remind the devs to send some love to thieves (by taking a look at enhancing SA and Acro traitlines and some other fixes suggested on the thief forums!). Thanks!

My feedback:

Druid just needs to make up it’s mind do you want to be a celestial healer or a half-ranger.

I also think they should have put more effort in reworking celestial avatar to working as a substitute for the pet traits. Just as they did with reaper shroud.

It’s nice to have a trait line that isn’t inflated with pet traits. There were some really cool traits to choose from in the druid line.

Keep in mind, you can simply use the celestial avatar mechanic without using all the glyphs. this leave two trait lines, a weapon and 5 utility skills to choose from. The pet will see plenty of play and i’m glad we got a different mechanic that isn’t pet related. Ranger needed more viable options.

I don’t think you understood what I meant. I was saying they could, in theory, replace pet with celestial form completely and then bring allow all the pet related traits to affect cele form. For example zephyr’s speed (quickness on pet swap) could be changed to quickness on entering cele form.

Just like what they did with necromancer, they allowed death shroud traits to affect reaper shroud.

Played a match against 3 MM necros yesterday….nuff said. Seriously though was really annoying. I agree to leaving moas killing minions. Mes is ok since it’s high cd also maybe they could slightly increase engi moa skill cd and slightly decrease cds for minions.

At least that would have better player-pet interaction.

This was my biggest issue with Druid. The pet just seems to be plastered on. They need to make up their mind to either go full celestial form (by getting rid of the pet) or integrate the pet more into Druid mechanic. It just feels odd have both cele form and pet. Should be one or the other to have a more defined mechanic.

Why keep the pet mechanic with Druid?

While I wouldn’t mind a spec that can result in us not having a pet, the new pets are the only good thing about this reveal so I’m fine with keeping them for druid.

Where do we draw the line then between Ranger and Druid? Let Ranger be the pet guys and Druid the healers with a spirit form. Nothing wrong in having to spec Ranger if I want to use the new pets.

Just a quick question for the devs. I find the Druid specialization interesting so far and it has a lot of potential. But why have both celestial form & pet? This seems kinda counterintuitive. Like we have to focus on healing the party and micromanaging the pet? I know there’s the issue with all the pet traits but surely they could have worked that into celestial or something else?

Re: Dash update!
The original reason we had removed the extra distance on Dash was that we lacked the tech. Since that post, it’s been resolved. Thus, the distance of Dash is back, with a fervor. Now you’ll travel a full 450, up from the 360 previous (~300 base dodge), while moving at a faster-than-running speed. Swiftness duration increased to 10 seconds, up from the 8 we talked about originally.
This thing’s about solid movement, so we’re going to push it in that direction for this BWE. Please check it out and let us know how you feel about it. The animation’s going to remain as your character’s run for now.
We are aware that this new distance will cause some de-sync in synergy with Shadow Refuge, but feel that the open-field movement capability for daredevil needs to take precedence over this abliity. note: You can still dodge from edge-to-edge and remain inside the field, but it’s pretty tricky.

Great news keep up the good work guys! As others have mentioned please keep updating us whenever you can. Don’t leave the thief class and it’s elite spec out of the loop, in the months to come

I agree with adding a “salvage all” function. While they’re at it I hope they can add a “sort” feature to this game. Even if it doesn’t sort by rarity at least let it sort by item type!

Good to see that you guys are still working on tuning this spec! As others have said losing the extra distance on dash isn’t a good thing. I hope you guys can find a way to make it work before release even if it doesn’t make it into BW3.

Also are you decreasing the cast time of CV from 1s to 3/4s? Don’t know if its a typo or I’m reading it wrong.

Regarding Latent Stamina and Earthen Proxy: We’d like to change these up a bit, being as they don’t feel all that great and don’t have the best impact yet.

Like title says, what do you guys think? Personally I think it would be really cool if this didn’t have a cooldown, because it’s basically the engineer’s new class mechanic and would feel to restrictive having it on cd. I believe the ranger skill allies’ aid doesn’t have an icd either. Also would be neat if Anet could allow the function gyro to gather, whenever it gathers it would consume the appropriate tool from your inventory.

That’s why the Revenant gets a newer, shinier version of our Dodge fluff on top of their interface fluff and special sound effects.

The interesting thing about the fuel mechanic would be if it affected other skills other than gyros. Also with all this reveal going around anyone think HoT will bring mobs that can stealth to raids or even open world content?

After reading the official Scrapper reveal article today, I am very excited to see what Druid brings. Scrapper seems to have great traits synergy, fun weapon skills, as well as useful utility skills. ICH (ranger and engineer developer) might also have some awesome stuff for Druid as well!

Good to know that you guys are working on some of the more pressing issues (hoping you look at animations as well), but will we see any change to staff 3 I can’t put my finger on it but something seems odd about that skill. Also for staff 4 if you guys don’t want a smoke field at least make it a dark.

As someone mentioned before perhaps heat sync should focus around boons the elementalist is already good as producing or as least boons that fit tempest thematically. I also hope that the stability is at least 3 stacks. Also why not consider adding an F5 that would work the same way but not lock out attunements after overloading.

Some thematic changes that could work for the dragon hunter (and help it become a more condition oriented spec) would be to have every attack of the DH cause bleeding after SoJ is activated. Because bleeding isn’t as powerful as burning this wouldn’t be too OP and would be turned off when the virtue recharges.

Also WoR passive should have a 25% movement speed boost. Lastly maybe you guys could consider taking 5 seconds off SoJ cd and 15 seconds off the SoC cd.

If the fear is that sharing Quickness and Resistance is too strong, I can somewhat understand. But the skill needs to at least be able to share the boons that Ele can already self-generate (Might, Swiftness, Regeneration, Protection, Vigor, and Fury).

Looks good Karl. Though there are also some things that still need to be addressed.

Traits -

Defender’s Dogma – This trait isn’t doing much, and it kind of makes you not want to use your Spear of Justice. When you use spear this doesn’t do anything for you and in some cases this trait does not really feel any sort impactful. Suggestion for it to work better would be to have Spear of Justice retain it’s passive after so it feels like a decent minor that does something. The other suggesting for this would be to rework it to refresh Spear of Justice when you block while attaching a ICD to it. Say 15 or 20 second ICD sounds fair. As it stands now though the current state of this trait is pretty much nothing.

Pure of Sight – This shouldn’t be a minor. If anything attached to Heavy Light for Longbow based builds.

Heavy Light – Just talking about this trait, the knockback is really random, and you can’t control the knockback. For me personally and other guardians we’d probably like to see this function moved towards ability like True Shot. So it isn’t just a random short knockback from time to time. not to mention it’s going to be competing with Big Game Hunter which is a pretty decent damage mod, and a Hunter’s Fortification which pretty much everyone will most likely use for 1 condi removal every time you block on a 1s cd, that’s strong.

Hunter’s Fortification – The trait is strong though the damage reduction if you have no condi should be tweaked a bit. As it stands right now, this damage reduction will pretty much be non existant because there are so many things that will inflict 1 condition. Auto Attacks, AoE, passive traits etc, you’ll never be condition free for more than 3s. My suggestion would be to have a threshold before the damage reduction disappears. Something like something like 3 conditions would make this function well.

-Skills-
Wings of Resolve – Looks fairly decent, though just one or two things I’d like to maybe see added. Evade for the duration of the skill, and a range increase. Don’t know why but it feels sort of short. Though evade on WoR will help with clutch situations.

My 2 cent.

You’ve summed it up pretty well. The only thing I would add is maybe reduced immobilize on WoR to 2 seconds? 3 seconds seems like a lot especially for an adept trait. Also PLEASE MAKE TRAPS GROUND-TARGETED.

Thinking about it: IF they would be AI, that would be strange because Anet usually give each AI unit a unique look and these drones all look pretty much the same.

Sadly after playing DH more I can say it is probably the worst spec. I previously thought this was Tempest but at least Tempest has a clear role (just some traits need to be looked at & overloads). DH on the other hand really doesn’t know what it wants to do.

I honestly think the only saving grace for traps at the moment is to make them ground targeted. They took this away from rangers but that didn’t affect them much because they have many melee weapon sets that work with traps and it fit thematically. Even looking at games like Tera, their archer class (which can only use bows) has ground-targeted traps, the class would literally suck if they weren’t.

I don’t see the problem with adding the ground target to traps….it would go a long way in making this Ranged spec viable. You can even keep the slight cast time to differentiate it from wells. Lastly as I’ve said in a previous post it fits the guardian because it can be similar to consecrations but with a Ranger twist.

It actually needs to be more like rampage. There’s no significant change when you berserk besides the primal burst and the slight increase in attack speed. Like rampage, the damage you take should be reduced or the attack power increased. Maybe even more hp as well. IMO all elite specs need to be buffed a bit (maybe except herald, chrono & reaper) because you are losing crucial traits when you swap out for the e-spec.

In short, they need to be competitive. Like the devs should have in mind at least a single trait line it’s designed to replace and make sure it’s equal or even slightly better than the base trait-lines.

@Naurgalen I think having berserk up until you exit combat is a great idea. However to avoid a dps loss primal burst skills need to be stronger. I think another neat idea would be going berserk tiggers random effects like frenzy or endure pain or berserkers stance etc. I think this trait line needs more of an identity if it wants to compete with defense or discipline even strength. Perhaps when berserk we take 20% less damage. This alone might cause people to take berserker over defense.

I think we should also get something like engi’s utility googles for blind immunity. Maybe have increased movement speed while berserk. There’s plenty you can do to make berserker a better traitline for pve/pvp.
