Streamlined Kits in Combat Only

Could the devs split the swiftness application of this skill from the attacks done by the kits? Nothing more annoying than gaining agro when trying to skip with swiftness or even sneak gyro. I believe they were separate skills before the June 23rd specializations patch. This would be a really great quality of life for engineers in my opinion.

Tooltip Error on Signet of Suffering

For the utility skill signet of the locust, the trait signet of suffering shows 25% movement speed on the tooltip in addition to the 180 Healing Power when selected. Just a minor inconsistency as the trait does not grant an additional 25% movement speed.

We tracked down an error happening on a couple servers last night and we believe it’s responsible for demo character progress being wiped. Those servers have been taken down so we don’t believe the wipe will happen again and there is no risk to non-demo characters.

If your character is unable to progress you may have to create a new demo character to play through the story again, though both demo characters should have access to the raptor for the weekend once it is unlocked for either.

Hmm as I mentioned before the perma-ban seems a little excessive and sudden. Why not go for 6 months to a years time. Even more high profile competitive games do this. Furthermore, if Anet wants to fix the scene they need to actually start dealing with some of the complaints that have been around since forever.

I read an article where an espurts player on Overwatch got banned simply because he was using vulgar language on stream. It wasn’t even sPvP manipulation or any other type of Tournament manipulation.

I applaud Anet for having the aptitude to say, “we’re not taking your kitten anymore.”, to an event that was heavily disrespected by these players. Same to Jebro who immediately replied to the investigation and banned these players from entering future prize winning tournaments.

You mentioned Overwatch, even Blizzard’s policy is to go for 6 month bans. Unlike Blizzard, ANet can’t afford to lose pvp players.

Ignore the naysayers, aside from some of the more OP mechanics these are some really interesting trait ideas and I would be pretty happy if we got more game-changing and competitive trait choices than damage increase by x%.

I agree would be cool if pvp got it’s own version of tier 3 armour with added particle effects. Like WvW it would incentivize long term play and maybe even allow pvp ranks to mean something past rank 80.

I actually think Spirit Watch is pretty good and even ranked worthy with all the updates, it is such a breath of fresh air to play. The community just has a negative view of it and has gotten everyone else to think the same way, in fact it should have been added before Skyhammer. Here’s hoping to seeing it added in season 8.

I’m pretty sure they didn’t shift to the less communication policy because of Heart of Thorns. Pretty sure there were plenty of complaints on the forum about that policy long before HoT launched, and received criticism.

Thus, not really a great example.

Yes their communication in general needs improvement, but if we look at how long they hyped HoT for compared to the new upcoming expansion (basically no hype at all, unless you count the leaks) there definitely was a shift.

As for does Anet have a middle ground? Well that’s the thing. Anet tends to react very strongly to strong criticism. The stronger the criticism, the stronger they tend to react.

I absolutely agree with this statement, I mean look at the criticism about HoT being over-hyped which caused them to shift to a policy where they will only talk about things like a week before release. There is some merit to this method but it also causes the community to have a lack of commitment to the game when they have no idea what’s coming next.

My main goal was to suggest that it’s more nuanced and that if we really want to see if ANet takes a middle ground, we need to look at the big picture, not a few examples.

I’ll agree with you on that point that in some instances it is more nuanced, but if you look at the hype example I mentioned above, it’s more obvious in that case.

I completely agree @fluffdragon they seem to be in the habit of starting something then dropping it for something completely new or they just stop updating it like stronghold.

Not bashing ANet cause they do a lot of things right but there’s definitely room for improvement in this area.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that ANet often handles things in graduated increments, rather than aiming for extremes. This can be seen with how they originally tried to handle silk and then leather, with how they originally tried to handle the zerker’s+scholar’s meta, how they originally tried to handle condi, and balancing in general.

Of course they’ve also gone too far at times, failed to hit the sweet spot and taken extreme measures. Worse, in my opinion, sometimes they’ve been too slow at making any changes at all, unless shortly after a patch.

All in all, I’d say that running a popular MMO is a nearly-impossible task and it’s all-too-easy to second guess decisions afterward. I think that if we really want to evaluate how well they’ve done, we need to be more thorough and not cherry-pick the examples that support our impressions: make a list of hundreds of issues at stake during a fixed time period and narrow it down to at least 50-100. Was the issue addressed? Was the solution ‘extreme’? Did it solve the problem substantial? Were there major unintended consequences? Did they make appropriate adjustments after the fact?

My guess is that we won’t find a specific pattern; it will be a mixed bag, just like it is for every other major MMO.

The post was just a means of offering my thoughts on the direction concerning certain issues in the game, don’t understand the need for a satirical reply. If you need more examples of what I mean just look at the changes done to certain classes/builds that completely remove them from the meta or ANet’s handling of dungeons by removing all incentive to run them before they adjusted this later on.

Over the years I’ve noticed that ANet often handles the game in extremes rather than aiming for a middle ground. This can be seen with the changes to crafting with leather, the condi vs power meta and general balance. What does everyone think, is it a management issue, trying to listen to too many player opinions or something else entirely that causes this?

When using the pets that are only available underwater e.g. shark they are unable to attack yellow environment enemies such as the orrian fish and objects like inquest devices. I first noticed this bug in the Bloodtide Coast map.

New Raid & Experience Progression

I don’t see why we would have to beat the new boss/encounter to finish the Forsaken Thicket mastery line.
You only need to beat any single part of the Raid Wings to unlock the mastery… (I managed to unlock it by doing the Stronghold of the Faithful escort…) Once it’s unlocked, you can finish the entire mastery line without ever stepping foot in the Raids again.

Perhaps you misunderstood my opening paragraph (or it was badly worded). What I am trying to say is we are probably getting a new mastery line so we will have to do an encounter in the new raid “Bastion of the Penitent” to continue gaining experience/spirit shards.

I have nothing against raiding, as I already have full mastery at the moment. But it’s the system I have an issue with, because not everyone raids and it doesn’t feel right to block something that was there since the game began.

Well we can just request to Anet that players that don’t have all masteries maxed should not receive XP to begin with. Rewards/currency really isn’t character progression.

I think that suggestion would only serve to upset players more. Remember the majority of players don’t raid. As for your second point (spirit shards —> gold --> buy mats —> craft ascended --> progression —> win?)

How are spirit shards progression?

It’s not just the shards it’s the fact that you’re gaining experience from doing something but it goes no where. It’s just something you don’t see in an MMO and makes no sense. Even when you reach level cap in other games, you can always gain progression in some sense.

So with the release of the new raid and probably the completion of the forsaken thicket mastery line, are we going to be prevented from gaining experience till we beat the new boss/encounter?

If this is the case again then they really need to come up with a better system. You can’t just keep blocking people’s progression by tying it to content not everyone will complete. It’s just not healthy for the game in the long run.

Can someone please explain what is going on? I went from near plat 1 to silver 3 on a constant lose streak I can’t seem to break. I am constantly getting paired with far-point heroes, dcs/quitters, people who don’t weapon swap, and individuals with strictly pve titles. I remember Evan stating if you lose more matches than the system predicts, it thinks you’re throwing. Is this what is happening? Am I stuck in MMR hell? Please help!!

Sorry 3rd screen is kinda messy (I’m essentially 13 to 25 atm).

Great so far! Awesome new features. Absolutely beautiful map! Looking forward to exploring it more soon. My only complaint is the ending cut-scene I, feel like they should have made it a bit longer to show the importance of the moment. Also did they remove achievement indicators from the story missions? I liked that I could complete the achievement during the first play=through and only replaying when necessary.

Overall great job, keep it up Anet!

I agree the that the mastery system feels unrewarding when you have the required exp but not the mastery points. You’re pretty much left feeling stuck and thinking at the back of your mind “I could be earning experience for this event, but I’m not”.

This is the issue with having the mastery point and experience requirement. A simple compromise to this would be letting you continue to earn XP and shards and for every x amount of levels (say 10) you get one mastery point.

In an MMO players need to feel rewarded for every activity they do, preventing XP progression, disrupts this philosophy.

I noticed that when I moused over my exotic daggers, transmuted with the incinerator, it displays as if the daggers are legendary instead of exotic. The outline is still orange for exotic but the hover-over tooltip shows the purple colour as if it’s a legendary.

I agree. I don’t know what’s up with anet & that “high concept” or “high level” stuff. Just say what you have so far even if things will change. That’s one of the reasons I miss Ready Up. But I guess it’s to be expected with balance being in the hands of different people.

Probably the same reason as the shatterer doesn’t have more bouncing chests, he wasn’t updated to tequatl level so didn’t get any decent rewards added to his table… seems the main incentive to do the encounter is his meta.

Well that’s unfortunate, even black lion skins would be okay.

Enough with the Q.Q guys thief AA was really bad before so a slight buff was needed (albeit wasn’t what thieves asked for) this change was motivated by PVE mostly. I say this because our class is suppose to be highest single target dps but even that wasn’t true. So basically we couldn’t do high dps or great group support. Also as others have said if you are letting a thief land several aas on you its a L2p issue. If anything people should be looking at necro issues not thief AA.
