If you get critical hits, ~3k autoattacks on Sword are no problem.
The Sword with the right offhand does more damage, but you are in melee so you will eat more damage, too.
The defensivce aspect on GS is, while you are in range, you make less damage But you get no hits. That shows you really can’t compare these weapons.

Phantasm is inherently disadvantaged in conquest due to AOEs destroying your phantasms too often and the fact that it’s largely single-target in its focus with little team utility.
If I’m playing phantasm, I prefer the signet condition variety due to the fact that your clones dying ties into your overall dmg output. Click the link in my signature for a thorough discussion of the varieties it available. It’s a super fun build that I’ve helped to popularize, and I get a lot of positive feedback from it!!
Still, even that build has some glaring flaws that can make it really hard to be viable in several situations.
As with universally all Mesmer builds, you will find it harder to be successful the higher you climb in tier based on skill level.
Countless’ build is a bit of a different case. Phantasm builds rely on, well, phantasms to do 90% of the work, and if you kill those then the mesmer becomes useless, thus it’s bad in every situation bigger than 1v1 and often even in 1v1s too (a thief with shortbow can entirely shut down phantasm builds just by autoattacking, or a warrior can use the longbow field to burn away all of them, etc).
The clone death build on the other hand is the opposite, it benefits from your enemies killing your clones/phantasms, while still having a decent phantasm/personal dmg with great sustain. It’s one of those situations where someone hit gold in a junkyard.
90% of work do the phantasm? That is just wrong. If a player summon some illusions, goes into stealth, kite and is like: wheeey just catch me , then you will probably be beaten by your enemy. The trick there is to find a way between kiting and still be offensive.
You need to do some damage, you can shatter, you can do some autoattacks, you can make some weapon skills. But most Player Ive seen are just like:
“Yep, thats my phantasm. Go and kill my enemy. Oh wtf why are you dead? ……..What can i do know? I will swap to my shatterbuild.”
I agree, when you must stay on point, no way. But a mobile phantasm mesmer can be a really hard enemy in an organized group when it comes to WvW Small Scale.

As a player who played tpvp with phantasm builds since release, i must say there are 3 Problems with them in this game mode.
The first problem is, that your Phantasms will be destroyed really quick, because of aoe damage.
The second problem is, that most people just can´t play phantasm builds.
And the third problem is, that most people love shatter builds because you can burst your enemy faster down or its just more fun for others, because there are many ways to shatter your enemy.
In WvW, most of Mesmers are playing Condi or Shatter, but for roaming the phantasm builds are fine.
But yea, phantasm wasn´t meta. Shatter is more useful for every sPvP scenario.

Depends on the build the guard runs.
Medi Guard: Just kite him to death. There is no need for Moa. Just kite them until he used his blockheal, and his focus. After that, you can melt them in a short time down.
Tank Guard: If it’s in tpvp, well, use Moa or it takes too much time to get him down, if he knows what he does.
Against all other builds you should kite him and don’t waste your burst when he is full with boons.

If you ask me this change will be positive for anyone who wants to be the zerker on their team and isn’t a teef. The ability to abuse the Z-axis gave them a mobility that other classes have no access to.
I play a decent amount of Mesmer, and I think this change will end up being a positive change overall because now their (often times) hardcounter will be more limited in terms of mobility so we may end up seeing less of them. Less teef = less risk to playing a Mes. Especially if this means teef Sword 2 needs LoS in order to work, no more retreating behind cover when things look bad. Now, when they use that skill they still have to be exposed to some sort of risk when they return. Same with other shadowsteps.
Is this change bad for teefs? Yes. Is this good for classes that lack teleports? Yes. It’s not OK to have only 2 classes (MediGuard) dominating the Zerker spot of a team.
EDIT: This will also help Necros I would imagine. Before, someone could just port up to them and ruin their positioning, now that may not be possible so good Necros who know where to stand will be rewarded. So once again, bad for some, good for most.
Sorry, but if you think Medi Guards dominate the Zerker spot of a team, you Should to try other builds. I can outdamage every MediGuard with my Mesmer. (I main Guard and Mes). Played Necro a few Weeks and even he did more damage.

Keep calm guys. As i posted in the other thread, all our assumptions are based on a text slush generated by google translate, which always has proven to do pretty bad translations. So all in all it might just be a bug fix where the skill simply won´t activate if the teleportation / shadowstep won´t work anyways. That means the pathing unable to find a path to the target, or as it is now, to find a path to a location which is as near as possible at the target. Whether or not this means that you literally have to be within the skill’s indicated range remains unclear. It seems unlikely though because classes with an abundance of directional movement skills, be it targetted ( Warrior Hammer F1, Engi Jumpshot) or untargetted (Warrior sword Savage Leap, GS Whirl and Rush, that Ranger’s Bee-thingy on sword, Engi Rocket Boots etc.) would be insta-buffed to the most mobile classes.

I think it will be a Hybrid weapon between Condi and DPS. Like Mesmer Staff.
But i hope the spezialisation is something like a dark guardian. Stealth on skill like LB 3# from Ranger Would be nice.

all i hear is kids seeing their shadowstep/teleports exploit fixed so they crying cuz they require skillful play noweveryone will still have the same mobility they had just wont be able to shadowstep from behind walls or teleport to unreachable places mid combat

After two years there is no Bug. After two years, you keep it because it works! (not talking about skill bugs like Scepter AA from Guard or the Focus of Mesmer which doenst stack swiftness.) This, for me, is a gameplay mechanic which will be changed without any word from ANet, without asking the Com.
People cry over Celestial in PvP and other things, but not about these teleports!!!
And why should a teleport find a path? It’s a ‘teleport’ !

This change makes me so frustrated. Chaining teleports to close large gaps is so much fun. This is really going to cause me to rethink my play style. Now, every warrior / ele will bring out their greatsword and disappear off into the sunset.
Also, I really wish Anet would comment on why they feel this change is necessary. There are classes with broken traits, cele in pvp, etc etc. I never heard anyone whine about teleports.
Why frustrated? Do you have ANY proof that the “leaked notes” are true? Don’t get wind up over something that hasn’t been proven to be implemented

For me, it will hit my three classes. My Guard will be unavailable to play in WvW.
Even in PvP it will hurt. And wtf why you can’t teleport without being in line of side. I mean its a kitten teleport!!!!! TELEPORT
So, what will you play then To make damage. It’s not just our only mobility build, it’s the only available dps burst build. Why changing a running system. Nobody was crying about those teleports.
so, they will say it is a bug fix. AFTER TWO YEARS THERE IS NO BUG. If you can’t fix it after two years, just keep it because it works! Maybe quit the game if we don’t get a 1000-1200 leap on gs or ground target skill like warrior, ranger, ele, thief, necro, mesmer, engi. Oh? All have those mobility skill? Ah thx ANet. Why not replace Guard with Revenant and Delete Guardian from the game?
We need to do a petition or something like that.

They need to do Leap for 1000 range or JI ground target based skill. Otherwise Guard is the slowest Class in PvE, can´t disengange in WvW Small Scale or even Large Scale, the only available DPS Build for Guard would be broken and absolutely UP. (Not talking about tPvP).
Hope ANet will do something against it. Or better: not change it! (never change a running system)

this is actually big nerf for Guardian meditation build. Hoping of some compensations like GS leap having 2000 range and mighty blow range 1600.

Yup, sometimes it seems ANet has no clue what is good on their own game. But hey, if a dev says that a Rapid Fire doenst hit People in Stealth, what should we expect….

Then play with fleshworm and spectral walk. You can even “teleport-stomp” people with it, Swiftness, you can jump off every wall without to die, more teleports. Oh DS has a teleport skill too, right? yea, least mobile class…

People are always leaving after patches because their profession was “nerfed” or because they don’t like a specific change.
Happens in every game. I’m sure the public outcry would be a lot louder if it were actually a problem. Those notes have been around for days now.
You read that, right? It was just my opinion. I can quit every game i want if it goes in a way i dont like. And i would leave not because of a nerf, i would leave because the gameplay was funny with those ports, the mobility and the fast gameplay. Because of people like you i will edit the post above. Why? You should discuss the change, not the fact people would leave the game.. sigh

Kite him and wait until he runs out of boons. Then burst.
Ahhh, and dodge his teleport.
Yeah, it’s effective to Moa him. But it only shows how bad the Mesmer is. Next time he engages you, Moa is on CD and then, you’re dead. So learn to fight him without Moa. After that, you will never use this skill again.

Every Build needs a ‘OH kitten ’ Button. Decoy is our ‘OH kitten ’ Button.
The problem with Mesmer is, you can use other Skills than Blink and Decoy. But most of Mesmers ulities are bs. I run since release with Condiremove Mantra, Blink, Decoy. Sometimes I play without Condition Remove or with Arcane Thievery. But Blink and Decoy? Everytime in every Build. (Well, and they are the funniest skills we have.)

A couple of weeks ago I came back to my Mesmer main (1 year break, 1 year almost exclusivly played or so) and it seems like buisness as usual. Clones are still kittened, targeting goes all over the place and illusionary leap is more broken than ever (I havent gotten the immobilize to work even once with the new ranged spawn mechanic).
The Mesmer isnt particularly crippled compared to other professions, its still a good class on its own. The problem for me has always been that when you try to have a helpfull metabuild for WvW (any crap build can PvE) it becomes sooooooooo booooooooooring. You literally have to take everything boring and weak with the Mesmer. You cant be anything other than a utility bot that barely get any tags. Anet thought it wasnt bad enough and nerfed most things to the ground.
Oh man i never post often on the forums, but in this topic more than in the last few months
If you feel mesmer is just a bot, it’s maybe a l2p issue. No offense!
But the reason most people play mesmer is, you can make so many builds work, you must only play them right. And this takes his time. I feel mesmer is balanced, only most of the ulities are bs compared to other classes.

For projectil you can use the first trait in the last tree if you play shatter.
I think focus is just a wasted offhand. Sometimes i play with it in WvW but only to kick players from walls. Nothing more.

Because focus is a s*** weapon, in my opinion.
The illusion is only there to shatter, and the stealth can remove (if traited) a condition and grants stealth.
Focus offers you nothing for shatter.

The Problem is, that guy wasn’t fighting. He attacks and runs away. Every time. Sometimes he stayed a few secconds. Then: Stealth – blink – byebye – oh let me try again – attack – Stealth – byebye.

Traveller Runes aren’t pfft. But for you, in a Zerg, they are useless.
Just use Centaur runes with an endless potion. It grants you perma swiftness.

What about the LS2 ending trailer? They now the Com wants a Spear (1hand or 2hand) and a 2 Hand axe.
Why should they show it in the Trailer and then not release them? I am sure they will come with the different specializations. That means, the specializations are the major feature, not the weapons they can use :P

I’m loving all the QQ from ez mode d/d eles who might actually now have to play a bit smarter to get the kills, or have more even battles.
Personally I don’t play d/d cheese ele in wvw as I play support staff ele, where the number of stacks of might I have aren’t so important (and generally a couple of guards or warriors nearby and a blast= 25 stacks anyway, I’m mostly celestial with a few changes and different traits (that work for me). one of my jobs in between water fields is finishing the downed and generally annoying the front lines by air and earth skills.
If you really like roaming, go to pvp and play against builds that are expecting you rather than getting your thrills taking on zerg built players wondering back to their zerg that are easy kills.
So you dont play cheesy D/D ele because its op, but you play cheesy Celestial ele. Gz for fail hahaha

Any Power PU specs?
Better investing in CI if you’re putting 30 in Chaos in my opinion. 20/20/30 is amazing if you’re comfortable interrupting key cooldowns. If not, from what I understand, PU power is a waste of time.

Btw, before you will use Focus, just use pistole. Its much better for power pu.
And Notice, if you are playing with staff, you should only use the offhand pistol. Because you will stack bleedings, and the warlock will hit much harder with that.

Couple of notes:
- I normally play phantasm build, and will probably continue. Builds like this are just too slow for me in WvW
- I tried making a shatter-condi build after “maim the disillusioned” was first released. It didn’t quite seem to work out, so I was hoping for something more viable.
- There’s certainly another option here with runes of torment (and as an asura, you could replace the interrupt with pain inverter)
- I do want to try a build like this for a while because I suck at playing shatter.
- I agree that dropping some dire for more crit would add more bleed stacks. My goal was to make a build that kept confusion and torment on more or less continuously if possible.
Condi Shatter works fine. Will be stronger after the Patch.
Yea, but other people play builds like that and then Anet nerfs not THIS build, they nerf the whole class to the ground. ^^

Year shatter and their traits..
Currently playing a Condi/burst shatter. It works really nice in Small Scale Group Fights, but isnt easy to play. Maybe i will post it Here someday. But i will wait until the Patch comes out. We will see
