Game crashing during wold bosses

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

The two settings that most greatly effect wether you will crash or not are:

1. Character Model Limit
2. Textures.

Turning both to thier lowest settings will remedy 90% of crashing.

Also, if you don’t already have it, get process explorer and watch the memory (on a 2nd monitor is handy). For many if it hits 3.5gb the game will crash. It’s a known issue.

New skills I keep bumping into feel extremely effective and have made certain classes harder to deal with than normal, you can only attain new skills by spending $72 (Australian) so that would essentially make it pay to win right?

How technical do you want to get? You have to pay to even access HoT, so yeah, I guess it is hahaha :-D

City of Tarir

MashMash.1645

People are arguing that the city the Exalted were in was the golden city of the Musaat.

I haven’t seen anyone argue that. Most people are just annoyed that a golden city full of mursaat like creatures (just like the descriptions of golden mursaat cities) turned out to be just a golden city full of creatures that look like mursaat but are just a whole new race with no existing backstory or lore but who were HERE THE WHOLE TIME! As if that’s something that makes any sense.

At least when they did it with the asura and the norn in gw1 they had a good reason, as they lived in places we hadn’t visited. 50 (or there abouts depending on how inaccurate anet are) years after the construction of a golden exalted city in the maguuma we literally visited the maguuma and we saw no cities. At least the mursaat had the excuse of being Unseen. But I guess this giant exalted city was behind a bush the whole time or something, right?

Where were these guys in the first game? How did no one notice them? Or the Mursaat not sense them? Didn’t we go through this region in GW1?

UGH. It’s so long since I played through gw1 I can’t remember all that stuff.

Exalted= Cousins of the Margonites?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

I guess similar questions could be asked:

-Why are all elder dragons dragon-shaped?
-Why were the gods humanoid (aside from being the “human gods”)
-Why do dragon minions take the form of existing beings (not corrupted, that’s obvious- Destroyers aren’t corrupted beings but still take the form of trolls, crabs, etc).

From a technical standpoint, it’s probably easier to animate/design/model on a pre-existing form than to make things very different every time.

From a lore standpoint, the human spirit is still human-shaped. Similar looking are Margonites, which are also human spirits that have been transformed into “ethereal demons”.

It is odd though, don’t you think, how similar they look to Mursaat / Mursaat constructs? I mean, they could have still done a humanoid form without making them so Mursaat related looking. It just seems strange.

The mysterious Exalted & Mastery UI

MashMash.1645

It is assumptions based on the fact that the Enchanted Armor creatures looks very much like the Exalted.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Enchanted_armor

Not an assumption, an educated theory crafted by the evidence presented. The Enchanted Armor follow the Forgotten in GW1, and this new lore blog post tells us that during the time of GW1 the Forgotten taught the Exalted. The Exalted look much more like Enchanted Armor then they do Mursaat. A+B=C, no?

It was a reasonable assumption I think. They look like Musaat and their jade constructs. The White Mantle have been teased in recent months in this area. They are near the Bloodstone. The story around their city and the previous lore was very similar. The ultimate fate of the Mursaat race is unclear.

A lot pointed towards the Mursaat.

I am fascinated as to why they made them look so similar to Mursaat / Mursaat related things though. Why? It would be as if they created another race of half human / half horse men with two heads instead of one and said they are not related to Centaurs. It’s just really odd.

Not enough time to test Scrapper and Druid

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

After every single BWE they had a big list of changes based on feedback on every specialization that was available.

Some specializations will have had three itterations before launch, others only one. Can’t see in what possible universe it would be fair that:
Profession A has had a test, feedback, change, test of change, feedback, change, test of change, feedback, change.
And profession B had test, feedback, change.

Gee i wonder which profession is probably more polished.

as if any of the professions were polished… amirite fellas?

The earlier professions will have been through several rounds of revision come launch, whilst the last ones will not have, and thus be in a much rougher state. I’m not sure why they planned it this way.

It’s especially galling for Ranger because it was already in a kittenty spot. And now they’ve dumped another great pile of kitten on the class, by deciding to shove it into the live game with minimal development time on it.

The outcome of this depends on the quantity needed to complete a legendary.

You only get 2 per reward track it seems. If you need 10 then they probably won’t be too expensive. If you need 100, then I suspect they will be 100+ gold each.

Somehow I see them requiring a full stack. After all, it’s supposed to take you a bit.

That would be great. I am currently unlocking all the weapon and armour skins, and getting the dungeon tokens via the tracks, so this extra thing is good. I’ve got a heap to go still, so getting these new shards along the way is super handy. And if I don’t use them I can sell them. Very nice

Raid Feedback

MashMash.1645

Here’s the thing about an enrage timer – it’s lazy. It has NOTHING to do with skill or profession competence, and merely encourages excluding some classes while stacking others. You are already seeing people not wanting certain classes because they have inadequate DPS numbers.

Like, is that the best they could come up with? Putting an enrage timer on a boss is just another way of saying, “I’m out of ideas about how to make this fight more complex or interesting, so I’ll slap a timer on it that will nuke everyone if they don’t blast it first”.

Or are MMO developers just out of new ideas? I would note, many MMO’s use this awful enrage timer crutch, not just this game. It’s the easy way out. It’s a tired, dull mechanic.

ppl that dont like healing, dont play heals

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

I have always enjoyed healing in MMOs but am not pleased with the current Druid’s CA temporary form, I think they missed the plot there. I can understand if another ranger dislikes the elite spec as they never wanted to party heal though. Imagine seeing every other class (even guards) get cool new solo specializations while you, the Ranger the master of solo play lore wise, get the Druid announced which in other MMOs is a shape shifting God with DPS heals or support and when you test it, it’s a part time healbot with no damage.

I enjoy healing so I think Druids can be perfected eventually but another ranger who doesn’t want to heal? They got nothing, and I can see why that would make them angry.

If you asked a lot of Ranger mains “why did you create and main Ranger?” , very few if any would say “we’ll, I hoped to become an awesome healer one day!”

Luckily, theres other classes in this game to play, and they have elite specs that don’t require to be carried by teammates…..

Outside of Raids, Where on Tyria am I going to need a healer anet?? (speaking strictly PvE here..)

PvE wise, outside of raids, I fail to see where druid would be “useful”….80% of this elite spec, its weapon , and its unique mechanic revolve around HEALS…. thats too much….

Even in raids it’s borderline useless. You’ll need high, likely sustained DPS – Druid can’t do this. "Well, you’ll say, surely it’ll provide great healing, and will be desired?!?!? " Nope. Other classes can cover the healing + do way more dps.

So, it can’t do the necessary damage and it’s one good feature, its healing, is unnecessary. Why do you need a Druid? You don’t. And groups won’t want them.

Unless they radically alter the game. And by game I mean HoT and all future content, because in the current game it’s worse than useless.

Druid Hands On Impressions | Ten Ton Hammer

in Ranger

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

This is a very well written feedback that are mostly fair and reflect what Druid is lacking, being pigeon-holed, and designed for the raid. (Even then, I doubt it’d have a place in Raid after the nerf of base healing )

It’s like those last minute ideas, suddenly realize we need a raid support class, but all specialization are revealed, so we Anet can only put them on this so-called Druid.

It is also unfair that Scrapper got more universal tools in other contents, even though they’re released at the same time as Druid, as well as designed by the same person. It give me an impression of how they treat ranger, as something that can easily replaced or shafted away because it’s a class they do not care.

Rushed and cobbled together last minute. Given that other classes can cover its healing, and do higher DPS – because that’s what these raids are going to need, monsterous DPS – then the Duid has no place. It’s worthless in the current game certainly, but will be equally worthless in the new content.

I don’t understand how people can logically request for both great healing and great damage at the same time in the same elite specialization. What logic of balance does this make sense in?

Great healing is worthless, when every class can heal, and other classes can cover healing + do DPS as well. Unless they completely structure raids to accommodate Druids, with some gimmick mechanic that forces taking a Druid, they are a complete and utter waste of time.

Druid and Healing Power Scaling

in Ranger

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

There’ll be more supportive damage for Celestial Avatar by launch… possibly from trait modifications or from skill changes.

An issue which should not be decoupled here is that Celestial Avatar felt gated behind staff use (and troll unguent), which left a ranger with one damage-focused weapon option and one support weapon. I’m making some changes to astral force rate gain to try to address this. Ideally it should be possible to build up your astral force without -needing- to run staff, but running staff should speed up the process by nature of the heals it provides. This would yield the option of running two non-staff weapons while still having Celestial Avatar available.

Celestial Avatar healing is the best available by a decent margin right now. One issue that came up is that the healing coefficients are so insignificant that running with healing stats yields very little reward.

The best healing in the game being available without using any healing power; this is not good for the game.

The berserker meta not be the only consideration requires that other stat combinations be rewarding.

Being able to run two more damage-focused weapons (if that’s your thing) and still have Celestial Avatar available should address some of your offensive concerns if you want to play a bit more offensively as a hybrid. If you want to focus on being the top offense then you probably shouldn’t be selecting the Druid specialization.

That’s all I’m going to say on the subject for now (though I will continue to read constructive feedback here and elsewhere) as there is plenty to be done in order to address these and other issues. /me ducks back to work on Scrapper and Druid.

I appreciate your effort to make the game more dependant on classes and roles (aka the trinity), however balance a system like this is always impossible.

GW2 base concept is “jack of all trades”, every player is autosufficient in a way or another, the game don’t need a tanker or healer since everyone is dps/tank/healer/crafter.
Now a system like this don’t work well with classes but the countrary, a system like work well without classes, where you aren’t locked to use only some sets of weapons and gear.
Pratically classes is the limitation.
at this point is better if you remove classes altogether along with gear but berserker and weapon at choice.

Or, the solution invoked by lots of players, make this game based on trinity.

In this way every gear in the game is meaningfull and isn’t useless like now, and moreover balanced, for example: cleric for healers, soldier and knight for tankers, rabid, carrion, sinister for dots condition dps, zerker, assassin for melee dps.

Trying to insert roles into a jack of trades system with classes is a hell and you never be able to properly balance something without screw another.

Exactly!

Druid and Healing Power Scaling

in Ranger

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

I would love to see people in guilds or lfg asking for rangers and druids instead of asking them not to join…

This is an indictment on the game, and has been for some time. I can’t see druid changing this attitude – it’s simply unnecessary as other classes can do almost as much + much more dps. Unless they have specifically catered some raid encounter around some gimmic that “requires” certain classes.

That’s the problem – people will always find the path of least resistance. Also, the way the game is structured, making the druid viable would mean restructuring everything.

The game was made so everyone can do a bit of everything. Suddenly druids are told, “you can pretty much only be a healer. You can try to dps but you’ll be terrible.” Gee fricken thanks. Rangers were shunned a lot already, and now you’ve given them another useless role that no one will want them for.

MashMash.1645

By the way, I think people who have enough free time for raids should realize that having a fractals-like system for raids will ultimately be good for themselves. Many players bought GW2 because GW2 was advertised as a game without typical MMO traps (e.g., raids which are time sinks). Many will leave if raids are implemented as time sinks in typical MMOs. If the game becomes dead because too many players leave, then no matter how much free time you have, it’s not fun to play in a dead MMO.

Yes. I find this funny. Remember when GW2 was all about NO raids, NO gear grind, NO trinity, etc?

Now it’s raids, gear grinding and advertising for tanks, healers and DPS. I hope thier gigantic turnaround doesn’t drive away players. It cannot, nay will not, survive on the back of the 1%’er hardcore elitist types.

Raids are like higher tier pvp, everyone has a shot at it if they make a group and progress. Theres no stat hinderance between higher tiered and low, ascended is the final stat that isnt surpassed by legendary. This game offers vast content types and now finally something to work for, something this game needs to peak interest, while not being the sole focus and doesnt exclude players since we are all on the same stat field. Kids and grownups are easily spoiled.

Except we aren’t on the same stat field. So in that way it is highly unlike PvP. sPvP is all about skill, while raids seem to put greater emphasis on gear.

Lastly, I have to say my favorite thing about the whole fight was learning the NPC’s inside the raid instance do no damage at all to player pets (meaning they also can’t tank anything for any amount of time); whether that be Mesmer Clones, Necro pets, engi turrets, etc. That’d be great if that carried over to fractals/dungeons or at least all legendary mobs in the game. Thats a wonderful change especially for Mesmer and Ranger players. Kudos to Anet!

Hmm, my Flesh Golem never died (or took damage) until I did, and I was hearing from the Mesmer in my group his clones were never being hit, so he could utilize shatters properly with the Chronomancer trait. It could be buggy as I was only in there for about 10ish attempts.

Oh, I see what you mean. It only got damaged when I was being damaged? I have to admit I wasn’t looking that closely. I’m so used to it just getting nuked -_- That’s possible I guess. Hopefully we get another chance before launch and I can test that.

Drop-dead timers are a sign of bad design. ie, we should have expected ANet to use it.
#grr

We’re better off with a soft enrage mechanic, common to WoW/Diablo 3. The longer the fight goes on, the harder it is: attacks do more damage, effect radii get wider, more adds spawn more frequently.

That sort of design lends itself to groups that can better play the war of attrition. If healing and defense keep up, they can succeed, but it becomes more difficult to maintain. High damage groups will coast through most of the fight, relying on prevention tools before the enemy’s damage gets too severe. It serves both play styles.

I’d far rather see this sort of boss design than a hard timer.

I’d rather see something original, rather than a timer. Really? Is that the best they could come up with?

A freaking timer! that pretty much forces you to use berserker gear to deal with it (and maybe some condition to deal with the red guardian). Seriously, I hope that all the raid bosses don’t have a timer on them, that is the most annoying thing I have seen on raids, if we are doing well and coordinated, let us take as long as we want, I seriously don’t understand the need to slap a timer on all raid bosses!

It’s a lazy and easy design mechanic. Pressure can be applied in so many more interesting ways than an enrage timer. How very dull.

If you do events in HoT areas = XP towards Maguuma Masteries.
If you do events in non HoT areas = XP towards Tyria Masteries (but these are disabled in Beta I think).

You have to be in those areas for the XP to apply to those tracks.

What part of Beta is everyone missing? That is why you have Betas, so that you can find and fix bugs. We had a Beta, we found bugs, and now they know that they need fixed.

How would you feel if they didn’t have Betas and that had been the live release instead? Then we would have the live release, of the expansion, bugs included.

And then you realize that what we have tested is but a fraction of the content available at release, and that even the content that has been tested is becoming more broken, not less (see the “bug” with the difficulty right now).

What do you think is the state of the untested, unseen until now content?

Because you either think that the beta was really about testing the game for bugs, and so the fact we have found a massive amount of bugs on the content we have tested means the rest of the content – the part we won’t see until release – is massively bugged as well…

…Or you think that the beta wasn’t really about testing the game for bugs, since the majority of HoT won’t be tested, and thus that all the bugs we are seeing at the beta are stuff ArenaNet didn’t think we would still find. Which, again, shows how bugged the rest of the content must be.

Really, it’s a lose/lose situation here.

It’s also 3 weeks till launch, and a lot is broken. Combine that with the rush job on druids, and it’s looking sketchy. Maybe it’ll be amazing and everything will be fine. /sarcasm

What if druid will be really bad at release?

if? The way Druid has been developed – i.e rushed and cobbled together – tells me how much they don’t care about Rangers.

Of course they’ll fix it. They hate Rangers. For example, see Druid.

Druid is Meta……

:-)

Meta for what? Being useless and badly designed? Sure.

It’s just a crappier cleric staff guardian with a bunch of healing redundancy that in PvE is made obsolete by just laying down a water field and having people blast it to get everyone up to full in an instant.

As in, I don’t think they could make a healing class with even wimpier damage and less blocks with no boon generation as a downgrade.

And so obviously rushed and thrown together at the last minute. It has nothing that others classes can’t do, and they do other things better as well. Theirs a reason they delayed it – the original design was gutted and they came up with this. Which is still awful.

What makes you think the druid has anything to do with healing?

ummmm, maybe because almost every skill and utility using the staff (because it’s completely wasted with any other weapon using the spec) on druid has healing, to yourself or others. just sayin……

Why am I not surprised about the beta

It’s a beta for reasons like this. Would you prefer to run into this problem on release day?

Considering the game drops in 3 weeks, and how obviously rushed and broken it is, I’d say we are going to see that anyway. Peeps are facerolling and pugging the raid already – when they can get in of course. I’m very worried at the poor state of the xpac at this point. They are working hard I’m sure, but it’s not looking great right now.

It’s awful. I didn’t realize how much they hated Rangers until now.
