I’m sort of surprised they haven’t added more things like hearts, etc to new maps, and added new map completions. They wouldn’t need to be necessary for the gifts, but would give new achievements for people to get. You could even have separate tracks for them, with some items as a reward. Given exploration is a big deal with gw2 and all.

But the experience after we level will count for mastery points, which I think is much much better. I don’t now about you, but I don’t think most players are sitting there at 80 counting their XP points. A few probably are, but not most.

But what happens when your mastery is maxed though? You no longer get any advancement at all?

The OP makes an interesting point, which I hadn’t thought of. What happens when you are in a map, and your mastery is maxed?

You just get nothing then, no mastery track progression at all? I mean, if it’s full, it can’t go up any more, right?

Or does something else happen? If so, what.

I still find this new system confusing (without being able to actually look / play with it I mean).

Rubbing up against a sylvari would probably hurt – bark scratches and scrapes. Gremlins would probably be split in half by most of the other races. Cat kittenes are barbed – wonder if Charr have that.

No breeding would occur obviously but there’s no reason they couldn’t still do stuff – over looking the possible physical discomfort features above.

Well, not all Sylvari would have bark. Some are made of soft plant material. In fact some plants are incredibly soft and velvety to the touch – you know like petals or whatever.

Erm, I gotta be honest. I didn’t think at this point in my life I’d be discussing sexy times between plant people and humans. Or whatever. OMG. lol.

Back to the point though, yeah I can see it happening. Sylvari are very curious and uninhibited. Humans are fairly liberal too. Maybe the Norn? I dunno. I could totally see two people being attracted to each other and, you know, trying stuff.

This, a thousand times this!

I just stopped playing Beta because I’d had enough of the quests. 2 hours of grinding the same few quests over and over again in a cramped and restricted environment got old fast.

Thematically, big open area’s makes zero sense though. The whole zone is deliberately set up the way it is. You are supposed to feel cramped in and awkward – you are fighting a dragon and his forces in his environment, in close quarters. That’s the whole point.

Also, Beta. It’s one slice of the whole thing. There will be some more open area’s no doubt.

Again Event Maps only?

MashMash.1645

Hi there,
I try to keep it short this time!
So after Southsun Cove, Dry Top and the Silverwastes, with the last two being literally a prelude to HoT, I wanted to ask if this is the “future” of how all lvl 80 maps will be like in HoT. Heart Quests are pretty dead by now and we get decreasingly Vistas + Skill Point challenges. It’s all about rushing between Dynamic Events.

The beta map was rather confusing and felt a bit like a less optimal Silverwaste copy. And since the events on the map are essential to unlock masteries; I can’t see all my 8 characters + the revenant to grind events all day long right now. Maybe I will do that with 2 characters, but that’s all the event grind I might want to do, seeing how slow the EXP gain was during those 2 hours.

So… no more “classic but likable” heart quests in the future…?

Masteries are account wide aren’t they? Do on one character, unlocks for all yeah?

My Personal Impression Of Beta

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

My Son was looking over my shoulder as I played (he never got a beta key) and he said the same basically. He found it all confusing, a maze and chaos.

I think that’s the whole point. So, working as intended?

Plus, as others have noted, spending time there will open up more options, through masteries, and you’ll be able to get around more easily.

It is supposed to be restricting and confusing at first – that is literally the entire point. You will not be able to circumvent all of that in 1.5 hours.

It’s thematically right too – dank, confusing, underground like vibe.

If you don’t like it, well that’s a personal opinion I guess – and perfectly fine. We all like, what we all like, yeah? But maybe give it more than 90 minutes.

Add player/account names to spawned items

MashMash.1645

Please don’t spam useless reports about irrelevant things that they won’t punish people for anyway. There are on occasion actual issues in the game that it would be nice if they had the time to read about.

What, worried?

Depends what you mean.

Am I worried that the eleventy-millionth thread whining about silly things on the forums is going to be the catalyst for policing where items and skills can be placed in the world? Haha, you’re funny.

Do I believe there are an abundance of people angry and vengeful enough to make useless reports for things like ‘put a portal somewhere that upsets me’? Sadly, yes. The fact that OP even suggested this as a way to dispense punishment, rather than something like ‘please stop these things from working directly atop x item or area’, when the latter would be a much more immediate and permanent fix than reporting people suggests to me it’s not really about solving a minor inconvenience.

I considered the idea of ‘please stop these things from working directly atop x item or area’ as a viable solution. The problem with this is that it creates a host of other problems. The portal thing is another issue entirely, and probably harder to combat. There are many situations where they are dropped near interactable items / npc’s, so stopping them would reduce their use considerably.

Surely just getting people to use these items without being kittens is the best outcome? I realize this is wishful thinking though. I’d also forgotten that asking about people ruining the game for others, and suggesting solutions to combat them, was a waste of time, and we should just let these people run rampant. Never mind.

(And reporting certain issues might be ‘useless and irrelevant’ to you, but they aren’t for others thanks very much.)

Add player/account names to spawned items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

Can we please get player names added to items that are spawned into the world? Like for trade posts, merchants, box’s of fun, etc? So we can report trolls and block them, when they intentionally place them on top of other items / npc’s?

The reason being, people seem to love spawning these items on other items – deliberately – making the original items or some other merchants unusable. A good example was teq at reset today. Someone had put a Hero banner down, and some genius thought that would be a great spot for merchant. I had previously got the buff, so that was fine, but many missed out, and it stopped people refreshing it after teq was dead.

I’ve seen it in other places – in the main cities for example – someone will spawn merchants at the bank, or at the mystic forge – making them a pain in the kitten to use. Which is of course why they do it.

Can we please just have the name of the person, or account, that spawned these items attached to them – that way we can block and report them. They can keep doing it of course, but then at least we can report them, and they can be put on everyone’s ignore list.

And while I’m here, do something about mesmer portals on boxes (can we get name tags on those too? That would be great too) and move the compact button away from the deposit all button?

Human vs Norn armies: who would win?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s impossible to answer this question. Their are too many unknown variables. Physical size doesn’t mean everything. What magic can each side use. What allies and support forces can they muster. What are the capabilities of the forces leaders. Where is it being fought (i.e. the terrain). Can the Norn even be organized into an army? What about numbers? Would each side be able to access other races tech?

Their is no real answer to this.

Centaur and Horses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This has been speculated on before. It also raises other issues, to do with power, like if Humans had had horses, the Charr would have been crushed when they attacked – and not what happened in the story. Human armies with access to large amounts of heavy, plated cavalry would have rolled over the top of the Charr legions – or any one else for that matter.

Not having horses, but many references to horses all over the place, immediately raises the question: Where are all the horses? Even if you don’t need them for transport, their military application is undeniable, and would be a huge advantage.

Multiple Portal Drops

I farmed SW for the beta portal from the first moment on for 7 days.
Every day for many hours.

And didn’t get the portal.

shrugs

Moving on.

That’s unfortunate. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities for those who still want to do the beta and haven’t had the chance. This could be just one of many opportunities before release. Hopefully, we don’t miss out on any more rewards because we didn’t participate in these betas.

Now, that would be unfair – if people who get into these betas get free, extra stuff on thier accounts, that people who missed out don’t get. But I don’t think that’s happening is it?

This Beta Portal is a freaking sham....

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

But you do realize you CHOSE to do that. You CHOSE to spend that time in there, farming away, full well knowing that there was a great chance you wouldn’t get the portal. It sucks you didn’t get one, but surely it can’t be entirely surprising.

Correct, but that doesn’t negate the fact that after farming, those who had bad luck feel considerably worse than if they had simply missed the opportunity via a random draw from the mailing list. The current drop system for the beta invites also breeds the strife and hurt that many are posting about both here and on other forums.

Well that bad feeling though is the known risk you take by spending all that time farming. :/ Yeah it sucks, but who knows how many other beta tests they’ll have and how they’ll let people in. Just because they used this tactic one time doesn’t mean it’ll be the only way they do it for the rest of the tests (if there are more). And honestly I don’t understand all this “strife” and “hurt.” I spent a week in SW farming multiple hours a day, knowing that I could not get it. I didn’t get it after four days of pretty much no-lifing it. But what I DID get was an insane amount of T6 mats, karma, gold, etc. from all that farming. And after I stopped trying so hard and just let the events run their course, I got a portal the next day. It’s a GAME. It’s a small portion of the expansion that some people will get to test. It’s really not that big of a deal. If people are “hurt” by this I don’t understand. Sure being frustrated is understandable. But hurt? Like… seems a bit of an overreaction to a very small thing that you won’t remember down the road of this game.

This was pretty much my thinking – and I still ain’t got one. :-D

Worries about GW 2 future

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

Well, all programs (of any significance at all) have bugs! Take that from a software developer that’s been in the business for 50 years now.

Saying that, I find this game to have no more bugs (actually less) than others I’ve played. These are complex programs with complex interactions…there will be bugs.

Reminds me of a plaque I once saw on a colleagues wall in his office. It went something like this:

“There’s no such thing as a bug free program. Just programs where the bugs haven’t been found yet.”

Lots of truth to that.

Yeah. I think a lot of people don’t appreciate just how complex game systems are. In their heads all they see is the end product – how it looks, plays, etc. And then scream, “but just change this thing!!”. And with bugs they say, “Just change this to this” or “just do this to fix it” as though it’s a simple change. Even small changes can be complex – and numerous other issues can then arise.

I often see comments along the lines of, " Just copy this thing over here" or " just swap this for this" etc, as though 10 minutes in Photoshop could fix things or something. I think some people don’t understand how games are made.

So ANET, should I buy 2x Bloodstone Shards? Or should I save my skillpoints? You really need to give us more info on this. Wiping hundreds of hours of saving up skill points? And all you give is this vague info? REALLY? H O K A Y.

If the Legendary crafting recipes stay the same (i.e. you need the various gifts and the components to make them), then it “may” be better to buy the skill point crafting items before this comes in. At least that way you can pick exactly which crating components you want / need now or for future use. Otherwise, all those skill points will end up being taken and you’ll get…. well, we don’t know. And RNG bag? I’d rather be able to choose what I want, not leave it up to chance.

If the Legendary’s recipes were to change though, then it gets even more confusing.

I’m not going to spend any more skill points on characters now – it’s a waste. They’ll lose them all after the patch anyway. Only the map ones will stick. I’m going to hoard them and calculate the best spread of Mystic crafting items to buy for future use. But I’ll also wait to see what they announce in the meantime – won’t spend them all now.

I think it is something they really need to address for those of us working on our legendaries. I have some of the materials already stored up. I will be more than a little irate if the recipe suddenly changes and those materials become useless. I know I won’t be the only one.

This is my concern as well. I have materials saved up for the next 4 Legendaries I plan to make. I have just been waiting on the new precursor hunts and new Legendary skins.

I will be extremely disappointed if they shaft me and make this all worthless just to appease ….. well, I don’t know who this will appease.

If the recipe components for Legendarys stay as they are now, you’ll be OK. But it all depends how they handle the Skill Points / Skill scrolls into Mystic Forge materials conversion. If it’s RNG, that’s too risky – it would be much better to liquidate the skill points / skills scrolls and buy up Bloodstone Shards, Crystals for the Clovers, etc. at least that’s a guaranteed purchase and not a random chance.

Old skill points in excess of those earned by leveling and skill challenges will be converted into crafting materials for the Mystic Forge. Items and activities that were previously repeatable sources of skill points will now also provide that same crafting material.

So yea, what should I do? Very limited information we have gotten, should I spend them asap? Or wait? Crafting materials can be so much… I have enough of the kittenty ascended materials they throw around everywhere.. Turn them into 500 T6 mats, sure I would love that. But I dont see that happening.

So what to do?

I’m wondering about this too. I have about 3000 skill point scrolls, and just over 300 excess skill points on my main. She’ll be OK because 100% map completion I guess.

My alts though? I gave them skills mainly through the scrolls – I couldn’t be bothered doing much map completion or skill points. I guess they’ll be stripped of every ability now, and I’ll be forced to complete the map to get them all back?

From what I read, I don’t think it matters if you spend them now or not – at least on abilities. Either way our characters will be stripped of spent skill points and skill scrolls, and the amount of these new points will be determined on how many skill points on the map you have done.

And in exchange you’ll be given forge materials – but how will these be determined? RNG? That would be a disaster. I’d rather just buy the items I want, not get given a random pile of junk. But, as noted, their is too little info to base spending up on these right now.

I think this is an intentional limitation of the Guild Bank, as more than one person could be trying to access a given stack of items at the same time.(Unlike your personal bank, which is accessed by only one person.)

Ah. That’s a good point.

I had heard about this yes, but that’s not quite what was getting at I think. I’ve actually had no issues stacking items in my bank inventory or my character, oddly enough.

It’s the guild bank I’m meaning. If you have stackable items in the guild bank you can’t just drop more into the stack. Also if you have multiple stacks already in the guild bank, you can’t combine them.

In fact, it doesn’t matter where the stacks are, if you try to combine them within the guild bank, it doesn’t combine them – they just swap. Relogging doesn’t fix it. Nothing fixes it. Except removing everything from the guild bank – then combing works fine. No need to relog. That’s perhaps why I wondered if it was intentional – they don’t want you combing stacks within the guild bank for some reason.

You have to take all the piles out of whatever out, combine them, then add them back to the guild bank. Why? Is it some technical limitation, or intentional?

Let Nightfall series be revisited in GW2

Yeah, I actually liked Elona most of all the expansions – the whole story with Palawa Joko and Kormir was awesome. And, yes, the African setting was cool too. I was not a big fan of Cantha really, although the Shiro story was very interesting.

They mentioned in the wiki I think that Palawa Joko controls all Elona now and his armies are clashing with Kralkattorics branded I think? I’d love to know what Palawa is planning – could his armies pour out of Elona into the rest of Tyria? Defeat the Dragons forces? I imagine Palawa is quite powerful, with an almost limitless army of undead – he could even grab the undead in Orr maybe, with Zhiatan dead. Incorporate them into his undead army.

It’s all very fascinating.

Digital Deluxe Upgrade gemstore bug?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

I notice in the gemstore you can buy the Digital Deluxe Upgrade for 2000 gems – but I already have the Digital Deluxe Edition I bought on the website (I have all the extra items, etc).

Most things that are one time buys have the message “you can only buy one more or you already have this” (like the nodes and other items) but this is showing as for purchase.

Is this correct? 2000 gems is a lot of money, so people should be careful of this item, as they may already have it. I haven’t tried to buy it, but they should fix this I think?

Not sure about the other motes but with the Caithe/Faolain one I had to check my mail – a letter from Marjory was there for me to read and the mote wouldn’t spawn until I read that, but their was nothing to tell me to do this. Hope they fix all these motes.

Legendary weapons will no longer be legendary

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MashMash.1645

MashMash.1645

I’m concerned that with precursor crafting, legendary weapons will lose the exclusivity and prestige associated with them. Part of the allure of such weapons for some players is that they are rare, unique, hard to obtain, and that there aren’t that many of them. The old system has many drawbacks, but one advantage is that by controlling the precursor drop rate, the prevalence of legendary weapons can be controlled. If the drop rate of precursors is %0.01, then only the top %99.99 richest (or luckiest) players will have a certain legendary. A similar principle exists in PvP, where only the top x players on the leaderboard are awarded with mini llamas or glorious hero’s armor. Does anyone else share my concern?

What exclusivity and prestige? Any credit card warrior can buy one at the moment. Under this new system, you’ll actually have to go adventuring and exploring to get them.

Legendary Armor

Well, this would be gear grind, which they said they don’t want to do, right? But if you could upgrade your current Ascended sets, that might be OK maybe? That way you wouldn’t have to restart all over, but you’d be 90% the way there already. I think Ascended is fine though as it is really.

Revenant armor already available!?

This is hardly the end of the world is it? So, some lucky person gets Revenant armour skin for a few months or whatever? Apart from temporary bragging rights, theirs no harm. And in 6 or 9 months (or whenever HoT drops) we’ll all be able to have it – until a week later when we all get sick of looking the same and change it anyway LOL
