I’ve played a Ranger for almost a year now, and I think they’re very good. If you learn to control your pet right, you can lure enemies into traps, or shift aggro from yourself to your pet. As for bows, Longbows are very much a long-range weapon – using them up close will do very low damage, but at a range, they have great damage potential. Shortbows can put on alot of conditions and stun opponents, which is quite helpful in dungeons, and can make you very evasive and difficult to kill.
Pets are quite possibly the most diversified class-specific skill in the game. You can have high-damage glass cannons, tanks, pets that give teammates boons, pets that debuff the enemy, pets that attack from a range…the list goes on. They CAN be vunerable to AoE skills though, so skills like Signet of Stone are useful. (To make best use of your pet, I suggest putting 20 points in the Beastmaster trait line – this ensures that they are tanky enough to take hits, but also have enough damage to contribute to a team).
As for direct damage, any class will do alot of damage if you build them right, Rangers included. I went for a full-attack build, and I think my damage is on-par with a good thief in dungeons. I’d reccomend a precision-power-condition damage build if you’re using shortbows/swords/daggers, and a power-precision-crit damage build if you prefer longbows and greatswords. Quickening Zephyr and Rampage as One give Rangers alot of damage if used at the right time, and can be devastating burst damage in PvE or WvW.
Overall, Rangers are a class you’ll have to practice with and build right to get the most out of them. But once you get used to them, they’re definitely just as useful as any other class, and can offer dungeon teams an awful lot with their sheer versatility.
Hey guys. Now with the introduction of Assassin’s gear, what do you think will be a better choice for those going for pure damage output? For those who don’t know yet, here are the respective stats.
Berserker’s : POWER, Precision, Crit Damage.
Assassin’s : PRECISION, Power, Crit Damage.
I think that Berserker’s gear will still remain the highest damage gear, as tier 6 Berserker’s gear gives around 50% crit chance anyway, and with some added runes, you’ll have around 65% or so. Adding more crit chance to that with Assassin’s Gear would sacrifice power, meaning that although you’ll crit more, each individual crit would mean less. What do you guys think?
@Squirrelzilla – 7/10. Loving the black/white contrast, but I’m personally not too keen on the hair
Here’s a couple of my ranger – not sure if I prefer this bow or the golden one.

Oh, so just because he’s a Charr, you instantly think he’s evil? Well, maybe you think all Azurans are midgets then? And all Sylvari are veggie-munching tree huggers, huh? That’s some quality racism right there bro!
On topic, I don’t really have any evil looking characters :p
ill be happy to thrust my charrzooka inside.
I usually like to open up with a Rapid Fire from my longbow, using opening strike to keep them vunerable. Then I go for my Crippling Shot and Volley to finish the job.
Senitel should be better than PVT.
I thought sentinel was PVT?
Hey guys! I recently decided to create a super-tanky character that simply refuses to die and can soak up aggro for a long time. I’ve considered a few options, but up until now I’ve been building nothing but damage, so I’m not sure what I should be looking for. Here are some options I’ve considered and the pros and cons of each:
Power-Toughness-Vitality build – Seems balanced enough, provides health and defense, but ensure I can hit hard as well. However, since I would have no healing power, my heals wouldn’t be hugely effective, and it could be difficult for me to recover health.
Healing Power-Toughness-Power build – Seems a more suitable option, providing the ability to do some damage, but also provides reasonable defense and the ability to recover alot of my health with potent heals. On the other hand, I’d have no vitality, which would be a downside, despite the healing power.
Toughness-Healing Power-Vitality build – I think this is the build I like most. I’d lose some damage, but I’d have plenty of health and defense, making it harder for my enemies to drop my health in the first place, and good heals to recover it when I needed to. The main downside of this is that I don’t actually know how to build it, since there doesn’t appear to be any insignias for it at the moment.
This is going to be a PvE build that may eventually transition into PvP. I think the obvious class choice is Guardian, simply for the use of heavy armor and their trait lines providing suitable skills and abilities. But I’d like some input from more experienced players on what stats are the best ones to build for ultimate tankiness and what weapons/skills would be most suitable.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies!
I certainly hope they’ll add it. I’m making a tanky ranger at the moment, and P+T+V gear would be simply amazing. Heck, it’s basically the ultimate tanky gear. Unfortunately, there’s only 90 or so gossamer insignias left, so I don’t think I’ll be able to get them :c
This thread defies comprehension on so many levels…
Who would bother to permanently tarnish their reputation for the petty sum of 10 gold (of virtual money)? I mean, I wouldn’t necessarily even notice if someone managed to swipe some pocket money from my account.
Who would call such people ‘a friend’ after the fact?
And most puzzling of all, what does this thread do in the crafting section? Does the OP suggest that the thieves were particularly crafty with their scheme?
A mod moved the thread.
AntiGw, I’m guessing the plan was try to join guilds until you find one that lets lowest level people into their bank, then clean it and split it.
Also, willpearson, it’s interesting. It’s not clear to me I’d be comfortable living with the guilt of doing nothing.
Personally, I wouldn’t want to associate myself with those people anymore, unless they apologized and returned their goods. Then again, my friends would never do this, so it may be more complicated than that. Sorry that you have to endure this awkward situation OP!
(Also why is this in Crafting?
)
I left this in general discussion earlier, and when I came home it was moved to crafting :/
How does one plan taking items out of a guild bank?
I think it was more of a “Hey, I can access this guild’s bank” “Oh cool, take and sell all their crap, and we’ll split the profits.”
Suggest finding new friends as well.
I won’t go in to all the details, but let’s just call him a friend of a friend. What worries me is that friend X is the one that planned the theft, and friend Y is the one that executed it. Friend X got a 60% profit (6 gold) and there’s no definitive evidence that he has done anything wrong in-game. So friend Y, although he is in the wrong, gets the least profit and all of the risk. How can I make it clear to ANet who is the one who deserves the greater punishment, or draw punishment to them at all?
Hey guys, I’ve got a bit of a problem here. A few days ago, my friend was invited to a guild, and he joined it quite happily. However, he recently went into the guild’s bank, took all the items out of it, sold them all, and split the ‘profits’ with another one of my friends. They’re both under the impression that it serves the guild right for giving new players access to the bank, but this guild got scammed out of about 10 gold in total. I’m not sure what to do about this – I want to see this wrong righted, but I don’t want to betray my friends. What do you guys think I should do?
Hey, found a bit of a recurring problem with Longbows.
1. Rapid Fire cannot be cancelled by other skills, other than Point Blank Shot. This means that once activated, I can’t use my Barrage, Long Shot, or Hunter’s Shot until the Rapid Fire ends, which doesn’t normally happen.
2. Hunter’s Shot no longer has the purple particle effect or the sound effect on it. It just looks like a normal arrow.
I’ve tried re-logging and switching weapons, but that’s not fixed it. It’s a problem that seems to happen for about 2 weeks or so, then go away, then come back again.
It’s worth mentioning that both these bugs will happen AT THE SAME TIME. It’s never one or the other.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
Hey guys, I’ve run into a bit of a snag recently. For some reason or another, I’ve been unable to access the trading post all morning. My ‘Sell Items’ tab appears empty, and the ‘Buy’ button is greyed out whenever I click on an item to buy it. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks in advance for any help!
Hi there everyone!
So I recently decided to make a Quiver of Swift Flight, and I’m gonna need 250 Vials of Powerful Blood to make it, so I decided it’s time to make a magic find armor. I was wondering…
What would be the best sort of gear to get the maximum effectiveness out of my farming? Not just magic find, but also extra gold from monsters, or extra power to kill things with.
What sigils should I go for?
How much is it going to cost?
Any other details I should know about magic find?
Thank you for any help you guys can provide. I currently have a measely 6 gold to spend on this set, but I’m working hard to get more so I can get the best farming set possible.

…. should be removed.
Yes its just a pixels and 95% of guild wars population wont become animal abusers because of that but we have children playing here. Proposing that bashing rabbits or kitties to death is rewardable ( which is what anet is suggesting here ) is wrong and i bet in some form – illegal.
Yes yes this is a game but we have too much violence in games already, why add more?
GW2 is rated T for Teen. If a teenager cannot discern the difference between reality and a virtual world, someone should step up and seek some help for them.
The average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day. By the time a child reaches 18 they will have witnessed over 200,000 violent acts on television. I don’t think bashing a few virtual rabbits in GW2 is really adding anything worrisome to the list.
It’s more about immersion. My character in GW2 is a ranger, so naturally going around shooting rabbits doesn’t really fit with her personal story. It’s not a massive deal, I just don’t do the ambient killer quests. I dislike it, but that’s because of my character – I’m sure there are lots of people out there who have designed their toon to be sadistic, and this daily will work well with them.
It’s just ANet’s way of giving us more choice and creating more diversity. We can do dailies how we want, be it for speed or for lore. we can choose to punch a horse in the face, or go off and comfort trees. It gives players more control over how they play, which is a good thing in an MMO.
Culling is what makes stealth OP right now, but remember that stealthed characters can still be hit with AOE – for example, the crippling arrow rain of the longbow. They’ll have a hard time escaping that.
I like to look at my gear
The +4 power I lost getting the Call of the Wild doesn’t bother me – might be good to get some vitality anyway. But by getting the arrowhead, I’ll still get power and precision, but I’ll get toughness instead of crit damage (my crit damage is already somewhere around 70% if I remember correctly, and I have no investment in defence). What do you guys think?
Hi there! I just got enough laurels to buy a piece of ascended gear, and considering I’m a human ranger focused on doing damage, I bought the Call of the Wild. But then I got to thinking – I’d have 4 more power/precision/whatever with the offensive version. This poses problems for my next item as well, as I’m an archer I want to get the arrowhead earring (Power, Precision, Toughness) as it just seems to fit my toon well, but I’d be sacrificing stats a little to get it.
So what do you guys think? Is it a big deal losing out on 4 power for an item that fits your toon well? Is it ok to buy gear that may not give ideal stats, but still compliments you and fits your character? I’d love to know your thoughts, since I’m kind of torn on this :/
Give my moa some golden armor, and I’d be happy with appearance changes XD
But I don’t like the CC idea – I use cats and red moas because they can grant might and fury to my allies, which is awesome. The hyena skill is good too – having 2 pets on the field can increase your damage and draw aggro away from you.
i got used to it, now when i’m about to die i automatically look at my feets, looking for a comfy and even place, even on my non-ranger alts.
But you shouldn’t have to do that. No other class needs to find a convenient place to die in order to revive themselves.
Type: Skill/Downed/Lick Wounds.
Short description: Still very unreliable, and does not work on uneven surfaces.
Why this is urgent: It means that rangers lose one of their most important skills while downed – it’s killed me at least 5 times this morning alone.
Bump for great justice. This is a serious bug, since it pretty much invalidates one of our downed skills.
No refuunds!
unknown AsuraRanger kits are currently bugged and scheduled to be fixed soon.
Alright, that’s fine
I guess I can sell the rares and get some goodies…
Hello again ^^
About a week ago, I spent my first 5 laurels on a ranger kit, with the intention of opening them and salvaging the two items for ectoplasm. However, since I bought them, I’ve been unable to open them; I keep getting a message saying “This item is currently disabled, please try again later”.
Since I bought them, I’ve managed to get the ectoplasm I needed due to other methods, leaving me with an item that I don’t really have much use for. I don’t know if anyone else experienced this problem with the class kits, but if they have, is it possible to have the kit removed from my inventory and my laurels refunded? I know it’s a rather big ask, but I couldn’t use them when I wanted to, and they seem to just be taking up space in my inventory now. If anyone else has experienced this problem, I’d appreciate it if you’d take some time to tell me about it, since I have no clue why the kits are disabled at the moment :I
Hello again! Sorry for making another thread, but I’m afraid I need a hand again :S
I’ve been looking in to making a tier 6 armor for myself, and due to the prices of globs of ectoplasm, I want to try and get all the other materials I can myself. I have all the gossamer I need – The only thing I can’t find is hardened leather.
I know most people say to salvage equipment to get leather, but I can’t seem to find any equipment that reliably drops hardened leather. So does anyone know where I can get around 30-35 hardened leather sections? Any help is hugely appreciated!
Hey everyone. I recently hit tier 6 crafting, and I’ve been wondering what sigils to put on my weapons to give me the highest possible damage output. Right now I’m using a full set of superior ranger runes, and all my equipment is beserker stuff, so I’ve got about 54% crit chance and a good deal of power.
However, there are so many different sigils out there, I have no idea what to get to max my damage output. There are ones that give me a straight power increase, or give me stacks of power on kill, or inflict vunerability on crit…what sigils would be best for me?
Thanks for any help!
Its a visual bug, probably because you have ranger runes on your pvp armor.
What do you mean PvP armor? I’ve just put the runes on my standard armor. Is that what PvP armor means? :/
Hey. So I finally got round to making some runes today, Superior Runes of The Ranger. Now, I made two runes and slotted them into my armor. I thought this would give me two benefits from the runes, but according to the hero panel, I have 8/6 bonuses from the runes, as if I had 8 runes equipped instead of 2. My armor doesn’t currently have any other runes in it, just the two runes that I made. Is there a reason for this?
P.S All symbols on the rune are lit up, and looking at my stats, it seems that I only have two of the provided buffs…
Okay, just tested it with my wolf + hyena.
Once I used my wolf’s skill, I switched to the hyena, and I could use her F2 skill as well.
However, when I switched back to the wolf, its ability was still cooling down, similarly to how a weapon’s cooldowns continue when switched.
Farewell Land Shark, you shall be missed
Darn! Just deleted all mine before the patch
Well, in fairness I don’t hugely like the legendary shortbow. Sure, it’s a nice joke and it looks like good fun, but with my ranger I tend to like the slightly more nature-themed weapons like the Kudzu. If you don’t like the look of the pistol, you could always transmute it.
Kudzu shooting arrow, now is not really shot from your bow, but imaginary thing 2 meters in front of u…. wth?
Could you screenie it? I was thinking about working towards the Kudzu.
Whoa, well isn’t that a showy effect! I wouldn’t mind having it simply because of how loud it is (Also quickening zephyr: SMOTHER ENEMIES TO DEATH WITH UNICORN) but I don’t have enough time to spend on this game to get something that rare
I’m not too worried. Apparently rangers are really underwhelming right now, so its more likely we’ll be buffed which is nice. But people do overreact. It’s a fantasy game, it’s not like increasing the cooldown on Ability X on Class Y from 30 seconds to 30.1 seconds is gonna make a massive impact on your life.
If you go to the “SHOP” link at the top of the page, you’ll find some artwork there.
If you don’t find what you like, I’m sure you can take some of the desktop art and go to a print shop – you’re doing it for personal use and not re-sale, so there would be as much of a copyright issue with that as with you printing it out at home on an inkjet (none).
Thanks for the speedy reply! I know it’s possible to buy some of the art from the shop, but the choice is somewhat limited, and the prices are a little deeper than my wallet can manage. I think I know a place nearby that specialises in fantasy art and such, so I might take a look over there and see what they can do. Thanks for the info.
Hey everyone. Me and my dad were just admiring some of the loading screen artwork in GW2, when he asked me if there were any posters available of the loading screens. I’d never really thought about it before, but the artwork in Guild Wars is pretty astonishing, and I wouldn’t mind a full sized poster or two of some of the loading screens. I was wondering, are there any posters available, or is there any way to get some? Any constructive replies are appreciated, thanks in advance for your input.
Alright, can someone tell me where Orr is though? I’ve heard it mentioned a few times, but I’ve never known where it is.
Oh, oh, oh. We are going wayyy back, ok. no problem.
Orr is riiiiiight down south of the explorable map, if you open up your big map, and you know the name of the actual like areas (Kryta, Ascalon, Maguuma Jungle ect.) look for the one saying ‘Ruins of Orr’. Now, there are three zones in there, and you can only get into the 2nd zone from the first one, and can only get into the 3rd zone from the second. To get into the first one though, you must go to the bottom left corner of Mount Maelstrom. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mount_Maelstrom. Any more questions feel free to ask.
The wiki is your best friend.
Thanks for such an informative post! I managed to get a few bloods and enough fangs at Mount Maelstrom, so I’ll head down to Orr now. I’d like this thread left open though, just in case anyone has any especially good farming spots to share.
Alright, can someone tell me where Orr is though? I’ve heard it mentioned a few times, but I’ve never known where it is.
Hey everyone. I want to work on my leatherworking skill to get my new armor, but I have no idea where to get the following materials in bulk.
-Thick Leather Sections
-Silk Scraps
-Large Claws
-Intricate Totems
-Potent Venom Sacs
-Large Bones
-Vials of Potent Blood.
I would buy them off the trading post, but it would be very expensive, since I’ll be doing the crating in bulk (I actually need 135 vials of potent blood!) So has anyone found an effective area to farm some/all of these items? Thanks in advance for any help, and please do post if you have any idea where to get these ; even a little help is appreciated!
Whoa, we share resistances and stuff with our pets? That doesn’t sound good. Yeah, pets are an essential part of being a ranger, but they seem to be a massive drain on our resources at the moment. Are there any plans for buffing them?
I chose to become a ranger in Guild Wars 2 because I love animals, and incorporating them into my love of archery in one somewhat stealthy damage dealer sounded amazing to me. I’ve hit level 80 and I still love being a ranger as much as I did when I first began, and I feel that having a pet offers some kind of moral support.
Rangers are never really alone, as their pets are always by their sides, almost like a second (albeit somewhat brainless) player.
I want to become a beserker based ranger and do crazy damage with my longbow/shortbow combination. I understand that the class has problems, and I understand that it’s a long road ahead of me, but I’m proud to be someone who didn’t pick their class based on what was ‘most effective’, and instead picked so that I could play a character design that I love.
Wouldn’t drinking that much liquor cause your liver to implode and turn your blood to vodka?
The wide variety of different animals and the passive sarcastic comments that some of the playable characters make.
“Oh, so you were just playing dead?” Ranger, upon reviving a pet.
“Congratulations to me.”
“Another confirmation of how great I am.” Are all lines I get a chuckle out of. But above all, I love the graphics in this game. Everything just looks beautiful.
Wow, Australia has a day?!? I need to talk like an aussie all day tomorrow.
They can be a little bit vocal. I’ve got two or three skills that increase my speed, and I’m getting sick of hearing the same voice line over and over again.
Yes, I know you can outrun a centaur, shut up.
I give you an 8/10 for that Defora. There’s a certain piece of life in that face that’s difficult to create in a video game.
Here’s a picture of my character – a ranger, if you’d like to know
