Piggy backing off this question. If you’re level 3 and you do level 4, does your daily chest default to level 2 at Jade Maw?
As in, you wouldn’t be able to do level 4, get the reward, then go do level 2?
Yep, that’s pretty much correct. You only get the rewards for your personal level, not necessarily the level you’re completing at the moment. Also, you can only get the daily once per day, per tier. Tier’s are set up like 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, etc. So if you did a level 4, you wouldn’t get another “daily chest” for that tier that day. You’d have to wait til the next day or do another tier.
The grind he’s talking abound is for the extra +5 to an offensive or defensive stat along with the agony resist in an infusion. It takes a lot of ectos and tier 6 mats and other stuff to be able to make them and for just another +5 its not worth the expense. Probably not ntil there are full sets of ascended armor to apply infusions to.
Just a note, if you’re using empowering might as a trait I would use knights gear over soldiers gear for the extra precision needed to proc those might stacks. For me, I dont usesoldiers gear bc with knights (not just armor of course) I still get over 3k armor and over 3.1k attack and around 47% crit chance with no buffs. I find it fits my playstyle nicely.
If we’re talking about pve I think a sigil of force or accuracy would work well. If WvW, energy is always good and accuracy would still be pretty good. Im sure others could give you a better idea for pvp but n general I’d forgo the scepter for a staff, hammer, or other secondary weapon.
Well since you mention that you’re getting close to having enough relics im assuming you havent bought it yet. I’d get the one that compliments your build the most or maybe one that gives you a bit more of the stats you’re lacking. Whichever one you get, when you ascend it, I’d use the infusion slot that compliments its stats. What I mean is dont put an offensive slot onto a defensive back piece or vice versa. Make it all defensive or offensive. Dont mix and match.
Ill agree that for pve I love the scepter and its uses. In wvw/pvp it’s pretty crappy but back to pve. For single target smite is great if the mob stays still or if you hold it in place. However the warriors rifle is right there as well (huge killshot crits as well). For groups of mobs the scepter gets overshadowed by the warriors longbow in a big way. The dmg fom smite goes down considerably while the longbow lays down combo fields for your allies to take advantage of and does some aoe dmg as well. Staff is great in cettain situations but I wouldnt run around with it out all the time. Not when there are much better options for what im doing.
Kill Shot is a 2s channel for a skill that does less damage than Smite and burns all your adrenaline, causing you to deal less damage for a good while until you can build it back up. Not even a comparison. It’s pretty much purely for WvW when the target probably can’t even see you due to culling.
Meanwhile longbow does less damage to a single target, with a slower attack, than staff does in AOE, and otherwise only has one skill that does any real damage, and it does less than either of the guardian’s two skills. The longbow’s only real purpose is to make fire field blast finishers, but one blast finisher every ten seconds at the cost of doing pretty much no damage isn’t really worth it considering the staff can regularly output 12 stacks of might with a tidy heal attached.
I had some other points typed up but I could see that this is going nowhere. I love my guardian and his ranged options, such as they are. But I also see the merit and uses in other classes ranged options.
I leveled armorsmithing and weaponsmithing and used the mats I collected clearing high level zones (I did have to buy some but not much) to craft my gear. It was far far cheaper for me than buying off the tp. I had another char with jewelcrafting so I could make my trinkets while I worked on ascended gear.

A cool shot before I went to fight the Claw of Jormag and got some good shots at the EB jump puzzle the other night.
Edit, I’m really starting to not like that greenish skin of his…
What shoulders are those?
Yep those are banded shoulders
+1 I think this is pretty much what I’ve been trying to say but you put it in a better way. I reqlly like the way gw2 set all this up and I also appreciate long term goals. After all, if I already had everything I wanted accomplished I dont know that I could find a reason to keep playing. I like playing the game so that would keep me for a while regardless but having a long term goal is great for me.
I have multiple characters and would like to be able to gear them all. Unfortunatley, the above calculation is just for 1 peice of gear. It would probably take me years to complete an entire set for multiple characters.
I have played many mmo’s before GW2 and I have never had to grind this much. This is a moowhole new level of grind. To me, this is completely absurd.
What MMOs have you been playing that you think this game is a huge grind? I have nearly complete exoic sets for my 3 80s minus the amulet for 2 of them and I dont grind at all. I did a little “event grinding” in Orr until I realized that was super boring. Now I just do dungeons, fractals, and WvW. I only do the parts of the game I find fun and I play maybe a few hours a night but I skip playing some days just bc I dont feel like logging on. Im wondering what you use your in game time for.
I like the order of whisper armor
Where is the merchant who sells this, my character is order of whispers.
Chantry of Secrets in Bloodtide Coast I believe.
Im personally in the process of getting the Twilight Arbor armor for one of my sets for my ranger. I hadn’t played him in a while so im kind of at the same point you are. I have yet to decide on a good skin for his bow/axe/warhorn. Reaver of the mists looks pretty good.
Fractals. I make a lot of money in there with lodestones and such. I salvage my rares and keep the ectos. If you sold them it’d be even more money.
Not sure what everyone’s problem is with the post. There are plenty of actually crappy useless posts in here without complaining about a relevant post that shows the completion of a lot of work put into a part of the game.
OP, congrats on your legendaries man. They look great and that’s quite an accomplishment.
I’ve got a friend who never uses his keyboard except to type. He’s done this in several MMO’s over the years I’ve known him with ease. Probably something you’d really have to get used to but he uses a combo of a mouse and Razer Nostromo key pad. I don’t know what kind of mouse it is off the top of my head but I think it might be a Naga or some sort of Logitech mouse.
Doesn’t the nostromo have a thumstick for movement?
I’m not positive since I don’t use one but I think you’re right.
And Choovanski, I’m not sure if that was directed towards the Nostromo but my friend also does jumping puzzles and such just fine. I’m sure it would take some getting used to but it seems to work out well for him.
(It’s late and I can’t figure out if there’s a way to quote two people in the same post.)
OP, I run a similar AH build. I use 0/5/30/30/5 with Knights armor and mostly berserker trinkets. I started with much more knights stats but replaced them with berserker stats as I got more comfortable with the build (including most/not all of my weapons). When I do CoF I normally use a GS/scepter/focus and do just fine. So don’t think your gear is the issue, especially if it’s all exotic.
Without knowing more of what happened all I can say is that I agree with what Quarktastic said in that CoF is largely overrun with ignorant warriors (of course not all of them) that just think they can glass cannon their way through without a thought for their group.
The only thing I can think of that you might have done wrong is not using your shouts to grant buffs and heal yourself? Other than that, I’d just chalk it up to some bad pugs and see if you can get a friendly group to give you pointers if you want. A good guild certainly helps to run with so I’d ask around if you don’t have one already.
I’m not really sure what to make of Reihert’s post either. Especially since it sounds like they’re thinking AH is a trait that’s meant to heals others…because it’s actually a selfish trait meant to only heal you. BUT, it does benefit others since to heal yourself you should be putting as many buffs as you can on your team and this means you and they should stay alive longer.
I have no idea how you’re making such little money in fractals. Even when I dont get rares make way more than my repair bill. I salvage every rare I can for ecto anway so I dont make money off of that. Plus I just find them fun. Sure I make more money doing quick dungeon runs but I like to challenge myself with higher fractal levels and the experience with friends or learning new techniques from pugs. Not to mention being able to gear my alts with rings and upgrading my back piece.
I’m wearing full knights armor with berserker trinkets and I love it. Usually the only reason I’ll die is if I get focus fired or I over extend myself (which happens more than I’d like to admit). I feel my survivability (unless I do something real dumb) is great and my damage is pretty good as well with out going full offense.
Dulfy.net will tell you all you ever want/need to know about ascended gear and infusions.
For my warrior alt I only used his money to gear him up (I do this for all my alts) I did dungeons to make money and bought the crafting materials I needed when he hit 80. It was far far cheaper and more cost effective to craft his gear (armor and weapons) than buy it off the TP. The exotic chestpiece was a little over 4 gold on the TP, it cost a little about 1.5 gold to craft. Really the expesive part is the t6 mats and ectos. Orichalcum and gossamer really isnt bad. I made sure to clear the upper level zones to get the good rewards for completion which helped fund and supply mats for his gear. I used nothing above green items while leveling.
Ah I guess that makes sense. Slightly disappointing but I guess I should have figured that out just by reading the tool tip. Oh well, I still feel like a baller watching those numbers fly up.
A cool shot before I went to fight the Claw of Jormag and got some good shots at the EB jump puzzle the other night.

When I use Whirling Wrath in a group of enemies, it’s sweet to see all the numbers pop but I started wondering about this the other day. Is the damage output from Whirling Wrath calculated the same way as a Warrior’s HB? As in, for the final “hit” of WW, is it a single hit that’s showing for 5k+ at the end or is it added up like HB for Warriors?
Side question that just came to mind, is the damage from WW multiplied or compounded somehow depending on whether you’re hitting one target or multiple? (will your damage increase with WW against a specific target (maybe the ‘targeted’ one) in the group because you’re hitting multiple mobs/players?)
Hope those questions were clear. Let me know if I need to word it a different way.
Define good Warrior. Last time I checked Defektive from twitch.tv was the only active guy making plausible stuff.
Define good warrior? He probably means one that doesn’t die all the time by playing poor and plays the class well with some success. That’d be my guess..
OP, kind of oldish but I liked Matale 7’s hammer warrior video. Pretty cool playstyle and made me make my alt warrior focus on hammer.
From what info you did give it seems like the Endless Quiver or Fractal Capacitor equivalent would be the best bet for you.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Endless_Quiver
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Prototype_Fractal_Capacitor
Keep in mind that you will have to get a lot of Fractal Relics to first ascend the prototype fractal capacitor and then infuse it. I think both of them will require some time and/or money but it’s up to you. In the end I think it really boils down to looks. I went with the fractal capacitor for my guardian since I didn’t want a quiver or book showing on my back and I like to have mine shown.
Gah, I was looking for this thread the other day when I was looking at the Warden Torch. For some reason the search function wouldn’t pull it up but yeah, I’m pretty sure the Warden torch has a blue flame.
Not so much. I crafted my full exotic knights set plus jewels (including trait books) just on money I made leveling my guardian. I like to have my characters support themselves with their own money so I’m not spreading myself too thin.
I also only use my money for what I really need. I don’t blow it on stuff that I outgrow quickly or is simply for looks, not until lvl 80 at least.
I’m sorry but it sound like you play a LOT more than a few hours a day.
Nope. I do the exact same thing. And only play a few hours per day. It all about time management and playing with a purpose instead of sitting in LA. Although I do have an active guild, and that helps.
^
This is true. When I started was before the update to fotm. Pugging it since then has been much more problematic. I keep getting glass cannon builds of people in the 10-18 daily that are only at an actual lvl 5 or less. Awful update to the fractals imo. I like that you can rejoin groups when you DC or that if someone drops you can go ahead and recruit another but that upleveling thing should have been left out. As far as I can see the negatives far outweigh the benefits in that regard.
I was just messing around in WvW and took this one a while back when I was a new 80 Guardian. I think it looks cool.
Same. Im not sure whT it is you’re wanting. I just do whats fun for me and manage to make at least a few gold a day, sometimes more if I get a good drop. I refuse to grind stictly for cash. I’ve played those games and I dont choose to play that way anymore.
Hold up, I just want to clear something up for those that may not be running fractals much yet. Please dont think it’s some major gear check. I started running fractals on my guadian with all green jewelry. Everything else was exotic but then 1-9 isn’t rough anyway, it’s just learning the mechanics of the fights. And thats what you should be doing from 1-9 and pay close attention from 10-19 so you can recognize the agony attacks. Agony at those levels can be healed through as it is, and not just on an AH guardian. Several others in my group did it as well. You do nt in any way NEED 20 AR at fotm lvl 20. Of course it makes thing easier but thats it. It allows for more mistakes. I had 10AR at 20 because I didnt want to sit at 10-19 and “grind” for vials and globs to infuse my rings. Two simple I fusions worked just fine. I would recommend 15AR if you’re going to mid 20’s because if you get hit unless you’re at full health you’ll probably go down and that’s not good for the team. But up until then di nt be afraid to run with less.
You’d lose the purple name but maybe try transmuting it to a blue or white weapon then to an actual weapon on a new character? Im not sure if that would work but its worth a try.
I used it last night on that one and it worked pretty well. Seemed like it didnt last quite as long as before but still got the job done.
Man I wish I could even see a fractal weapon drop lol. I have enough vials/globs/shards to infuse 2 rings but ill be able to upgrade my capacitor in another 30 relics so im holding out. They might have changed the drops tho, I did a lvl 12 daily last night and got a vial and a glob in the dredge one. Hadn’t seen that before in any lvl 20+ runs.
Check out dulfy.net for the recipes on infusing your rings further. You will lose your current infusions I believe but 2-3 more runs after that will give you the 150 more relics to buy more infusions. That will put you at 20 AR.
My little Asuran hammer warrior. Thinking about swapping to cultural armor but I’m happy with his look for now.
You went into the Fractals hoping for drops to sell?
-smh-
What? I made loads of money off of drops in fractals. I don’t even think I have one of those elusive “lucky” accounts. Fractals nets me tons of ectos and drops drops to sell (cores, lodestones, exotics with expensive runes/sigils….etc).
OP, that’s a pretty cool looking shield. I would stash it in your bank and save it for an alt that uses a shield.
Agreed. My 80 ranger can apply maybe 18 stacks of bleed consistently on a PvE target. In WvW/PvP not so much. You have to hit your target from the side or back to apply bleeds with a shortbow (i think there might be a trait that eliminates this? not sure, haven’t played him in awhile) but I can already see that my lvl 20 Necro is going to be far better at applying and maintaining multiple types of conditions PvE and WvW/PvP.
My Tanky Guardian.
The T3 cultural armor is the only thing that makes me wish I had made my Guardian a human. I love the way it looks on both male and female chars.
Exactly. I swap 1-2 of my utilities in fractals quite a bit depending on which one I’m in. I hope the spirit shield isn’t crap in fractals now because that was very useful and the only SW I used…
It’s absolutely viable. I run the same build points-wise but some of my traits are different. In the Valor tree, instead of Strength in numbers (I don’t think 70 toughness makes much of a difference) I use Retributive Armor to help raise my precision and in the Honor tree, instead of Battle Presence I use Empowering Might so that I grant might to my party on crit (1-2 sec internal CD if I remember right). I also use greatsword and scepter/shield/focus but can swap to a hammer if I feel like that would work better depending on what we’re doing. It works great for any dungeon and in fractals as well. It’s a pretty standard AH build and is used by many many guardians I’d say.
Knight’s armor works great for a AH (Altruistic Healing) build. There are several variations but I use a 0/5/30/30/5 build. There is a sticky at the top of the guardian forums that describes it in detail but as she’d likely have to do is re-trait. I use greatsword and scepter/focus/shield for all fractals, only swapping out my utility skills for certain encounters. It’s an extremely viable build bringing group buffs and great healing for her. If she uses a hammer, the symbol provides protection (-33% dmg) for those inside the symbol and it’s considered more of a group based weapon with an AH build. Even if there were two such guardians in the fractal, it would work and they would each have fantastic up-time while still providing many party wide buffs. Pretty hard to die from mobs honestly.
I’m sure others can offer other viable builds but some version of an AH build is probably one of the most common builds.
Edit: She might even like to try the “Healway build” located on this page as well but I think that would require a change to Cleric’s gear.
So far I like it. I still have to finish my berserker gear but powerful blood is so ridiculous on the broker. Might be cheaper to just buy the insignias. Luckily I have 2 very nice ascended rings that I didnt need on my guardian so thatll save me some money.
Yeah thats my issue with great sword as well. He mobiluty is great but that 100b fan be seen a mile away. Ill probably be doing small group stuff in WvW as well so think a hammer would serve me better there. Sword is starting to look pretty as as a secondary set but ill have to play with that and an axe to see what I prefer.
Thanks for all the help guys. I appreciate it.
Just noticed your name is my second half O.O
Ha! nice.
Well I ended up taking the 10 points out of tactics and putting it into Discipline for the extra crit damage and burst damage and chose Adrenal Reserve for the reduces cd on burst skills. I’m also thinking of taking the 10 out of Strength and putting it into Arms instead since I feel like I would get more bang for the buck out of +100 precision than +100 power. Since I main an AH guardian than I should do what a made a warrior to do and that’s damage. I don’t really want to go full glass cannon and I really like the damage and control that a hammer has and I think I would only use the rifle for parts of dungeons and situation based in WvW.
I think you’re right, Rayya, in that I’m giving up too much mobility and defense in not having an offhand shield but I’m torn between a sword and axe for main hand. I really just leveled this guy and didn’t put a ton of thought into the game play of him since I used only a greatsword/hammer for leveling and didn’t really mess around a lot with the other weapon choices (beyond using them to open their skills). I think I want to go Berserker gear for that added damage over Knights. I’ll get a horn to toss in my bag and play around with it more. Is there any reason why you would choose sword over axe for solo play? Is it for the bleeds? It does seem to be more mobile and single target oriented than the axe.

I can’t find if this has been asked before in another thread but does anyone out there know of a website that tells you how many of each material you need based on what item you want to craft?
