New Elite:
Master of Time and Space or Time Lord
Upkeep: For every second this skill is active it gets a higher cooldown. Per second active it gets 9 seconds cooldown. Max duration: 20 seconds.
Activate your master of time and space form and change the way your skills behave.
While in this form:

  • You gain quickness every second.
  • Every utility is instant cast.
  • Your cooldowns are reduced by 33%
  • Your weapon skills hit harder and inflict slow.

Unility Set:
Phase Rift: Create a line on the ground that teleports allies 900 units in their current direction and knocks down enemies that try to cross it. 90s CD
Stop: Create a field on the ground that slows, chills and immobilizes enemies for 6s. 60s CD
Spatial Refuge: Create a field around you that follows you and teleports away enemies as they try to enter. (45s) CD
Wastrel’s Worry: Create a field on the ground that deals damage to your enemies. The damage get’s stronger the longer they stay inside. 30s CD

Shield Skills:
4.1 Phantasmal Avenger: Summon a phantasm that stores all damage you take and sends it out to your target. 20s CD
4.2 Phantasmal Avenger: Block an attack. Summon a Phantasm that will cast the attack that you blocked.
5. Vortex + Implosion: Pull all enemies towards a target location. + Push them away from the location. 30s CD

Heal Skill:
Revert Time
Heal for a good amout and all the damage you took in the last 3 seconds (condition damage and normal damage) 25s CD.

Gearing for HoT - Best Shield Skin

Ofcourse whenever we argue about skins it’s always our personal point of view.

The 3 shields I like most:

  1. Flameseeker Prophecies
    The Legendary is quite a big shield. I really like it to have shields that cover your character. The effect (blue light and blue shining surface) of the shield if drawn is extremly great. If the shields are viable I will definetly build this legendary.
  2. Pact Fleet Shield
    It perfectly matches my mesmers colors. I used all kinds of colors from dark blue to turquiose and from dark green to green. This shield really matches my character so this is my personal #2 (pic related)
  3. Ghastly Grinning Shield
    It’s really easy to combine armor with that one because it’s black. Black does not kill any color and so I really like that shield for its color and its really great unique effect!

This whole thing is not about how skillful you are, how good at remembering positions of portals or anything. This thread is a request for a QoL update which makes us equal with other classes.

Warrior Banners have circles on the ground to indicate their range of buff.
Why shouldn’t a portal have a better range indicator?

For me it’d be enough if we would get this nice tiny red bar located under each skill for our portal too.
When we stay in range we get no red bar and as soon as we leave the portal range the red bar will appear to indicate: “stop right there criminal scum…” wait wrong game. “stop, you’re out of the 5k range”

No, there wasn’t any statement, and since when has Anet made a point out of being fair, reasonable, or intelligent with balance decisions?

I only said what I’m hoping for not what I think Anet will do.
I think we will only get a shield.
IF we happen to get 2 weapons (main and off), we get flamed extremly hard for getting better options → Anet will revert the changes and we will end up being able only to equip both of the new weapons together or not at all…

What I’m also hoping for is Equality for the specializations:
Everyone getting 5 new weaponskills. (Was there any statement by arenanet?)
It does not seem fair when ranger gets a staff, necro a gs and engineer a hammer which is two handed and giving 5 new skills and we mesmers end up with a shield giving us 2 skills (one possibly being a phantasm).

we get nerfs like every patch xD i still believe that HoT will be our savior…but i smell that Anet will be like: you get your shield, and you’ll like it kitten!

I still don’t know if a shield will help us.
Shields are always more defensive weapons… We already have 2 good defensive offhand weapons, fokus and torch. I’d really like the shield to be offensive (like gs being a range weapon) and concentrate on AoE. A vortex like skill would be nice to gather enemies to a specific spot.

Effects that trigger on control abilities or interrupts are treated in the same way as they are with the current Defiance system when the boss has one or more stacks of defiance. I believe they don’t trigger, though I’d have to go test it out to be sure.

All on interrupt effects trigger when you interrupt a boss monster that has defiant stacks on it. It just won’t interrupt the mob.
Halting strike triggers the damage, Chaotic Interruption will inflict the conditions and Bountiful Interruption will buff the mesmer. The only thing that does not happen is the interrupt.

Add:
Btw: That also was the cause of Power Block being able to interrupt bosses eventhough they had defiant stacks. The cooldown was applied to the skill before it was finished and when the skill “tried” to cause it’s effect it couldn’t work because the skill was already on cooldown.

Hello ArenaNet!
I’d really love to see an answer to these two questions regarding the new defiance system and the mesmer.

  1. The new defiance system allows you to change the way CC works on a boss.
    Back when GW2 launched Mesmers were allowed to use the Moa Polymorph skill on every foe for full duration. In some point it was nerfed.
    At the moment Moa allpies on Veterans for 10 seconds, on Elites for 5/6 seconds, on Champions for 3 seconds and on Legends it only applies for a blink on an eye so you cannot even see the transformation.
    I’m curious what you guys think about this skill and defiance 2.0. It could be a reworked for it’s behaviour on boss monsters. Let’s say it only works when the defiance bar is broken. That’d be enough.
  2. The Moa isn’t the only mesmer CC nerfed to absolutely uselessness. I think it was for 24 hours when mesmers were able to actually use Power Block in PvE. Ofcourse it was not intended to work like this but after it was nerfed it was absolutly useless in PvE. You don’t want to put a boss’ skill on 10 seconds cooldown for defiance to refill to full stacks. You want it to be frozen by an elementalists Ice Bow. And if it’s no boss you’re fighting then you ususally fight a veteran or a group of Elite mobs which do not even have cooldown on their skills and cannot be put on cooldown by Power Block.
    (Psst! – Back in GW1 power block was an elite skill that was able to deactivate the enemies whole skillbar for up to 13 seconds and only had 20 seconds cooldown)

I really hope that the new defiance system can change these two issues.

The problem with Click Bait Titles is that people quickly start to hate you for them.

This is you’re 3rd or 4th clickbait thread and i was tired of them after the first one…

and Just to point out the problem with your Assumption.

The Wyvren dishes out Huge Swaths of AoE like its an AA, Phantasms and Clones won’t be standing to Shatter, and those that are will perish in the long standing Flame AoE.

This is not a Mesmer or Pet class friendly Foe, we will be at a huge disadvantage as is par for the course when it comes to the new content.

  1. I went through my posts and the only other clickbait i found was the april fools by pyro last year “Jon Peters confirms iLeap fix”
    That means that you could simply be wrong or mistaking me with someone else.
  2. With your Wyvern Fight argument you’re wrong too! They stated that the wyvern will be extremly vulnerable when its defiant bar is broken. This will last a few seconds in which it cannot act! (INCLUDING: IT CAN NOT DESTROY CLONES) “When the Wyvern takes off you really want him to get knocked down. Although this isn’t finalised, when you pull him out of the sky you deal triple damage to him until he gets up.”

Redesign Power Block entirely to:

Power Block: profession skill(s) of the target are disabled for 5 seconds on any interrupt (10-15 second ICD)

Interrupt a Thief using heart seeker and they can’t use Steal for 5 seconds. Interrupt a Warrior using Shield Bash and no Eviscerate. The idea being that Power Block interferes with profession skill rotations regardless of the skill being used. This would be especially powerful against Elementalists to the point where you could actually bring an interrupt Mesmer along to screw up a D/D cele Ele.

Yay disable steal for 5 seconds -> Most thieves use steal as opener…
Yay disable Warriors adrenaline skills for 5s… -> you know that we don’t need a trait to do that right? (we just need to interrupt the right skills)
Yay disalbe element switch -> the flame is real and the trait gets nerfed again.
Yay disable shatters for 5s -> more AI based builds inc
Yay disable pet control -> nothing happens at all
Yay disable toolbelt skills -> actually not bad…
Yay disable deathshroud -> flame war inc (same as for ele)
Yay disable virtues -> nooone cares

This would make Power Block useful against 2 of 8 (soon 9) professions.
Nope please not. Especially the ICD would kill it

Of course it’s a clickbait… Every newspaper would do the same. (I thought that “:D” would be pretty obvious though). I’d just love to hear the opinion of all the other mesmers out there.

Arenanet never confirmed any builds becoming viable. You could have known that. But the fact that they say we need spike builds in certain situations could really make a shatter mesmer be a possibility in the Addon.

I’ll respond!

I really like it.

First, let me say that I love the idea of specializations emphasizing different aspects of their parent class. While I hope that the first specialization focuses on our temporal/spatial/manipulative elements, I do hope that one of the future ones emphasizes our phantasms and another emphasizes our clones. Yours feels like a great suggestion for the latter.

I super dig your version of Mimic- furthering the ability for clones to act just like you. I’d even suggest that as an Upkeep skill!

Your Cries and the dagger skill are cool too. I really like the idea of using clones as resources for more than just shattering. Adding on-demand effects around them or consuming them to maintain an effect is great!

The thing about having the chance to interact with clones in a way my mimic does could be pretty overpowered. I already figured out some combinations that could be insane. I did state that the clones using mimic only deal 1% of the damage the mesmer would deal but in my spec they’re supposed to still apply all the boons/conditions and other effects. This would make us able to create a grand field of instant boon ripping by chaining Mind Stab (GS 3) with a 3 clone mimic. Or have a hell of conditionapplication by chaining mimic with Confusing Images.

Is this something that’s being looked at by ANet, or is it ‘working as intended’? Sure doesn’t sound like good game design to me.

They’ve said that they’re going to reworke the trait system once again.
The mesmer is not something anet cares for. To many of us active mesmer players it seems that anet in general or just one or two employees at anet have had some really nightmarish encounters with mesmers and now they can not stop the urge to nerf/break mesmers to the ground.

Still I’d say yes mesmer is fun and now is the best time to play one… when you play the weakest character in a game it’s more likely that you get buffed in the future.

You start to create builds that are good at spiking damage – they can do a heavy amount over a few seconds but you then have to wait thirty seconds. Although I would like to have it reworked, but I think my latter suggestion is feasible.

The one with the Confusion on crit or hit

So what do you and the other guys think?

Confusion on crit is not gonna make us happy: 3 steps to understand why:

  1. The problem with this trait is that confusion is a quite powerful condition and that Anet would never give us a confusion access to it in adept tier. That means we have it in master tier.
  2. You’re suggesting that we get it on crit. On crit means it’s definetly a trait in the dueling line.
  3. Master tier dueling line…. there was a trait that was needed for almost every mesmer build in pvp/wvw… how was is called? Ah right deceptive evasion… -.-’

Confusion on HIT would be a different story. It could actually get into the game as a master trait in our Illusions or Chaos line.
I’d really like that.

My favorite suggestion is still the idea to give us a trait to scale confusion with power!

Here are a few questions:

  1. Does everyone participate with only one character or can we use more mesmers? Personally I only play one character but there are some players around who have maaany mesmers. I guess some of them would like to show off all of their characters.
  2. Will judges/planners also be able to participate?
  3. How to become judge?
  4. How will the judges rate? I guess best would be the sum of 0-10 Points per judge (with 10 as best) devided by number of judges to create a ranking.
  5. Will the results be posted in the forums?
  6. Wouldn’t the place around the Lyssa statue in Divinity’s Reach be the best and most fitting place for such a mesmer event?

Specialization Idea - The Trickster

The Trickster:

The Trickster is a mesmer that focuses on clone generation. With his traits and skills he’s able to pull out really hard combinations to make his enemies tremble in terror.
Since I am the one who came up with this Idea let me show you some ways in wich the trickster can rule the battlefield.

Combos and Tactics.

  • With double traited cries “Aether Feast” can heal extremly well.
  • A combination of Mimic + Mind Stab results in additional boon removal for every clone that hits.
  • With “Shattered Concentration” all boon removal deals damage. This means that also Nullfield can damage your foes.
  • Try always to have as many clones as possible! The Trickster has many traits that trigger on clones being active or clones dying.
  • When you equip Signet of Illusions and Mirror images you can gain a really long time of invulnerability. Echo also helps there!
  • With Echo you can also reuse a stunbreak or even a heal! In different a second phase retreat could be awesome as well! Note: Echo does not copy “Swap” if you copy “Illusionary Leap”.
  • Cry of Pain can be a helpful skill and in combination with Mantra of Pain you can easily outdamage your opponent.
  • Try to save your Signet of Domination as long as you know that your opponent has stability ready.
  • Signet of Midnight is very powerful against thieves!
  • You have many new ways of clone generation. Try to use them as often as you can to gain the advantages you get with all 3 clones up.

  • Vengeful Images: clones you create have reataliation(5s)
  • Phantasmal Healing: Whenever you create a phantasm you gain regeneration(5s)
  • Phantasmal Strength: Your phantasm skills deal 15% more damage

Majors:

  1. Medic’s Feedback: Create a feedback bubble when you reviva an allie.
  2. Glamour Mastery: -20% cooldown on glamours.
  3. Vigorous Revelation: Clones apply vigor(3s) when they die (radius: 180)
  4. Persisting Images: Your clones have 50% additional health.
  5. Mender’s Purity: Clean 2 conditions when you heal.
  6. Compounding Celerity: Move 11% faster per active clone
  7. Malicious Sorcery +200 condition damage and -20% scepter cooldowns.
  8. Wardens Feedback: reflect and -20s cooldown on focus skills

With this specialization I’d like to fokus on clones. The mechanic of this specialization only knows clones. The way to play it is to effectively use combinations of your skills to create, controll, and abuse your clones. Clone generation is one of the main aspects with this kind of mesmer.

First the major changes:

  1. You no longer have access to phantasms(as minion), but you still have clones.
  2. The last traitline (Illusions) gets replaced by a whole new one.
  3. Phantasms are now skills like every other profession has. The difference is that they’re not executed by the mesmer but by a phantasm which only is an animation. After the attack is executed the phantasm disappears. (Phantasms no longer count as Illusions)
  4. Shatters get replaced with “Tricks”. Tricks are skills that allow you to interact with your clones. Later more.
  5. 1 new heal, 4 new utility skills, 1 new elite spell – also take 1 heal, 4 utility and 1 elite
  6. give one weapon – take one weapon
  7. Every phantasm skill gets a second cast to interact with the phantasm.

The Weapons:

  • Sword MH
    1. [Mind Slash/Gash/Spike] – Deals more damage to compensate loss of phantasms.
    2. [Blurred Frenzy] – Deals more damage to compensate loss of phantasms.
    3. [Illusionary Leap] – Increased Range to 900. Cooldown reduced from 12 to 10 seconds.
  • Scepter
    1. [Ether Bolt/Blast/Clone] – This skill no longer needs to hit until the next attack can be used. Deals more damage to compensate loss of phantasms.
    2. [Illusionary Counter] – No changes.
    3. [Confusing Images] – Channeltime reduced to 2.5s. Deals more damage to compensate loss of phantasms.
  • Sword OH
    4. [Illusionary Riposte] & [Counter Blade] – No changes.
    5. [Illusionary Swordsmen] & [“Strike!”] – Summon 3 phantasmal swordsmen around your target to strike at your command.
    This skill now has a 1.5s cast time. “Strike!” has a no cast time.
    The Swordmen will follow their target and die after their attack which can only be used by the mesmer pressing “Strike!”. When the Mesmer switches weapons the swordmens will die too. Overall the damage of this skill is increased by 30% but split among the swordsmen.
  • Fokus
    4. [Temporal Curtain] & [Into the Void] – This skill can now stack swiftness.
    5. [Phantasmal Warden] & [Mind Wrack] – This skill is now a groundtarget skill the mesmer can place in a 1200 range. Mind Wrack destroys the Warden to deal area damage. Mind Wrack is a combo finisher explosion
  • Pistol
    4. [Phantasmal Duelist] & [Mimic] – Summons an illusion that uses Unload. Mimic will cause you to also use Unload. This Phantasm dies after it’s channel is finished. Cooldown reduced from 20 to 15s.
    5. [Magic Bullet] – No changes.
  • Greatsword
    1. [Spatial Surge] – Deals more damage to compensate loss of phantasms.
    2. [Mirror Blade] – Deals more damage to compensate loss of phantasms.
    3. [Mind Stab]
    - This skill is now a combo finisher explosion.
    - Deals more damage to compensate loss of phantasms.
    - Cooldown reduced from 12 to 10 seconds.
    4. [Phantasmal Berserker] & [Swap] – This skill now is a ground target. You summon a phantasm that will spawn at your location and execute Whirlwind Attack. Swap destroys the Berserker immediately and you get teleportet to its position. Cooldown reduced to 12s
    5. [Illusionary Wave] – No changes.
  • Staff
    1. [Winds of Chaos] – Deals more (power-)damage to compensate loss of phantasms.
    2. [Phase Retreat] – No changes.
    3. [Phantasmal Warlock] & [Shatter] – This skill now is a ground target spell (radius: 240) wich summons a warlock that explodes on your command dealing damage depending on each unique condition. Shatter is a combo finisher explosion.
    - Cast time is increased from 3/4 to 1 second. Shatter has a 1/4 cast time.
    4. [Chaos Armor]
    - Activating now grants Aegis (This does not apply to Chaos Armor created by combos)
    5. [Chaosstorm]
    - First and last tick are always Aegis
    - First tick is always a daze
    - Cooldown reduced from 35 to 30 seconds.
  • Dagger (MH)
    1. [Illusionary Stab]
    Stab your dagger right into your foes mind.
    Number of Targets: 3
    Range: 300
    2. [Cutthroat]
    Teleport behind your Enemy leaving a clone behind and strike him with an attack that dazes.
    If you critically hit you deal additional damage and stun instead.
    Daze: 1s
    Stun: 1.5s
    Damage if critically hit: +10%
    Cooldown: 10s
    Range: 900
    3. [Illusionary Daggers]
    Upkeep: To keep this skill up you sacrefice a clone every 3 seconds. If you cannot sacrefice a clone Illusionary Daggers ends.
    3 illusionary daggers inflict AoE damage around the Mesmer.

1 year ago I came up with this trait Idea in this thread. 2 months later Arenanet gave us a trait called “Power Block”. Did they actually read or is this a coicidence?

I’ve played with the normal keybindings since release and never actually changed them.

My usual binding was
Weapons Skills: 1-5
Heal 6 (and a mousekey)
Utility: 7,8,9 (and a mousekey)
Elite: 0 (and a mousekey)
Class skills: F1,F2,F3,F4
Interact: F
Swap Weapon: ^ (don’t know if it’s on every keyboard like on germans, this is the key left from 1)

Now I changed the Weaponskills and the Class Skills:
Weapon skills: Q,M3,E,R,F
Class Skills: 1,2,3,4
Interact: C
Swap Weapon: Tab

I just tried to PvP and I really sucked hard against enemies that I usually could have beaten.
What are your experiences with new keybindings?
How long did it take you to get used to it?
Is it worth the pain?

Stability Changes

Because boonstrip rips a whole stack of boons from the target. Regardless of 1 or 25 stacks stability, 2 F3 illusions gonna stop that spin. It’s all about the boonstrip trait rather than the daze. Untraited it’s a different story.

How is this any different than it is now? Stability isn’t changing how it reacts to boon strip, it’s only changing how it reacts to direct hard cc.

I guess he meant to say that it will be affected the same way by boonstrip and only differently to “untraited”(without shattered concentration) to F3 which dazes the stability down stack per stack. (Which is exactly what you said in different words)

…and beeing unable to duel anyone with the same skill level in pvp. The only reason to take mes into pvp is the portal, to fight 2v1 at point a and then still 4v4 at point b.

Right now the mes is probably the worst class in pvp…

You forgot the most insulting of all, when Shattered Strength was buffed up to give 3 might per clone shattered and was nerfed back down to 1 within 24 hours with devs going to the pvp forums to beg for forgiveness for buffing this.

That was the biggest kick in the pants ever.

Yes I didn’t list it because I thought that we never were buffed with this one :P
Same applies to the ninja nerf for distortion (when distortion was dodge instead of invulnerability) well with that one WE started a flame war :P

You missed the 15s internal cooldown that got added to Illusionary Membrane. That was a massive kick in the clones for tanky wvw mesmers at the time…

Yes I know I missed some… i just went through the patchnotes but did not really find all of them. My concentration right now isn’t the best since I’m ill atm ._.
I also missed:
Traited Blink does not work underwater anymore for example.

  1. Fixed a bug with Signet of Illusions. It now give phantasms 50% more health instead of 300% more.
  2. The Prestige – Fixed a bug so that Burning duration no longer amplifies when additional enemies are present.
  3. The Prestige: This skill now requires full recharge if it’s interrupted at any time.
  4. Phantasmal Warden: This skill no longer has a 0-second recharge when affected by traits. It now has approximately a 5-second recharge.
  5. Signet of Domination can no longer be cast on targets behind the mesmer.
  6. Phantasmal Warlock: Increased recharge to 20 seconds.
  7. Chaos Storm: Increased recharge to 35 seconds.
  8. Phantasmal Duelist: Increased recharge to 20 seconds.
  9. Phantasmal Swordsman: Increased recharge to 18 seconds.
  10. Phantasmal Warlock: This illusion’s recharge between attacks is now slightly longer.

These skills now behave as normal attacks that the mesmer must connect in order to summon the phantasm, and they will fail if the mesmer is blind or the ability is cast on an invulnerable target.
  15. Prismatic Understanding: No longer affects the Prestige.
  16. Critical Infusion: Vigor duration increased to five seconds. This can only trigger once every five seconds.
  17. The Prestige: This ability now plays the blast finisher only at the end of the ability.
  18. Blinding Befuddlement trait: Can now trigger only once every 5 seconds on any target that is blinded by the mesmer.
  19. Distortion skill: No longer allows capture of control points in all formats or communing in PvP.

  26. Split the hit point values of clones and phantasms by game type:
    - Decreased the clone base hit points by 25% in PvP and WvW.
  27. Illusionists Celerity: Moved to the Grandmaster Minor trait.
  28. Vengeful Images: This trait now only applies retaliation for 5 seconds when they are created and does not persist after that.
  29. Chaos Armor: This skill no longer automatically applies protection when activated. This buff now provides an equal chance to trigger regeneration, swiftness, or protection on hit with a 1-second internal recharge. The random condition applied now has a 1-second internal recharge per target. These changes apply to the Chaos Armor provided through combo finishers as well.
  30. Phantasmal Duelist: The Illusionary Duelist’s attacks now have a 20% chance for a projectile combo finisher instead of 100% when traited with Duelist’s Discipline.

  36. Illusionary Leap: Removed the ability to use this skill in midair.
  37. Phantasmal Warden: Fixed an issue which caused this skill to destroy unblockable projectiles when not traited with Warden’s Feedback

Part of the reason why Mesmers never receive the attention it needs, the QoL improvements in needs in PvE and why in balance patches bug fixes are disguised as buffs is because everytime somebody brings up a problem there is always some ‘Mesmer player’ who comes in and tells us how great they are, how Mesmer can win 1 v 100s and how we all just need to learn how to 360 no scope. I guess also derailing the thread into PvE vs PvP is a new one at least.

Rangers had to fight hard to drag their class up from the pits, Mesmers need to do the same and not let these elitists beat you down.

I might believe this if the devs followed this profession forum as much as you seem to suggest.

I did not provide that link to show you how to defeat Liadri but to show you what this NPC is. The link I gave you brings you to the Wiki page of “Liadri” not to a page “Liadri Guide”. Seems like you don’t want to understand why people play PvE.
