Halting Strike was merged into Power Block but also Halting Strike DMG was increased.
The Mesmer we were seeing was in PvP Heart of Mists.
With a full power build for PvP now we can get a tooltip value of 775
in the stream the Mesmer was skilled on Vitality (had like 24k hp) but had a Power Block dmg value of 877
So this mesmer had less power and had a higher dmg on halting strike.
For Greatsword Training the max cooldown refresh per 1 autoattack is:
4 units using spatial surge (you and 3 clones)
3 hits per spatial surge → 12 hits
3 targets being hit by each spatial surge → 12*3= 36
36*2% of your cooldowns refreshed with the numbers how they are atm
means we get with best possible outcome with 3 clones up each hitting 3 foes 72% of our cooldowns reseted per 1.5 seconds

Why is it so easy?
You have 1s to pull it of, you just need to be fast with your skills.
1s stun is something most players do not stundbreak → your chance to burst.
1 thing that is really bothering me is if IP is now passive why do all ability’s start with 1 clone and stop at 3? Shouldn’t 1 be our 0 value or it total up to 4 with IP?
That’s just a tooltip issue.
Confusing combatants with 3 staff clones and IE being baseline will be totally OP…

Most likely gonna get an icd. Maybe a short one. Without it, I’m sure you can keep VERY high stack of confusion with staff alone and that would render scepter, which is supposed to be better at it, obsolete. But then icd never brings anything good… Either way icd less confusion on crit is too good gor a minor.

So what does Master of Fragmentation do? Just reduce shatter CDs or am I missing something?
It combines Precise Wrack, Confusing Cry, Masterful Reflection and Imbued Diversion i guess. They said that this one would combine all of the single shatter improving traits.
They mentioned that weird confusion dmg text once didn’t they? Have they said it’s a bug could it be that there is a rework coming?

Did anyone else notice that power block duration went up from 10 to 15 seconds?
I like the new GS trait. It sais that every time an illusion OR you hit with spatial surge the cooldown of all GS skills will decrease by 2%.
Think of 3 clones+yourself all 1.5s you perform 12 hits with spatial surge which means that every 1.5s your cooldowns will decrease by 24% -> all ~4 seconds every gs skill :o
Btw i just came up with a new way of writing builds.
A build now could be written like this:
Sw/T+Sc/P
Dueling: vvo <- down down middle
Chaos: vv^ <- down down up
Illusions:vv^ <- down down up

all the hate we gathered in the last years now has reached a limit where it just randomly strikes down on innocent members of our community.
This… is… hard…
I really like myself.. when every time I shatter a copy of me gets shifted into endless solitude I could not do it anymore.
I’d really love to send my clones to paradice
(was saying that evil? I mean… suicid bombers to paradice?)
In my version my clones are created by pulling together the surounding materials. If you create a clone you create a copy of yourself which acts, lives, loves and hates the exact same way you do. Shattering them just means to let go the energy you hold them together with. BUT you also feel them dying. Do you want to see yourself die over and over? Do you want to feel death over and over? Do you want to experience it every time you shatter and feel it twice when using iPersona?
I wouldn’t care if they would introduce a “Superior Rune of Illusions” =_=

What do you feel the Mesmer is currently lacking ATM? Please don’t use general terms like “damage” without elaborating for what game mode and why you feel this way.

Wtf this whole problem is no nerf… it’s obviously a buff and I guess that anet provides methods to counter the new version of these skills.
All of you who say that this is a nerf to mesmers may be right if you consider every other class getting a buff is nerfing us BUT we do not know what will happen to us after the patch!
Maybe we finally get skills/traits to bypass stability?
Maybe boonstrip has more effect than you would think.
I’d really like to tell you to wait until the patch is released and complain when you are certain that it is a thing that works against us mesmers.
Maybe revenant will have shield too, so maybe a new skill from revenant.
I don’t think they give two professions the exact same skill.
I’m not sure why but I think that Cronomancer will be the last specialization to be confirmed. Maybe because mesmer was the last to be revealed before launch.
What if we get secondary effects on our main hand skills? Like, for example, if you have a shield in off hand, your Sword third autoattack applies quickness for 1 second (1 second of slow on scepter AA?), or something like that?
That sounds like a trait to me, not an innate mechanic.
But I really like the Idea.

Look at all these threads with this optimism vs pessimism split. Its like a Mesmer civil war!
49% of me are extremly optimistic, 49% of me are pessimistic (almost as hard as pyro is :P ) and the last 2% are happy about pink butterflys.

When hearing that we get something which Jon Peters calls as good as the three skills we’d get with a mainhand or a 2handed weapon I guess he talks about a bunch of skills that are as good as scepter AA, and as “fixed” as iLeap…
But since we there was a dev asked about shield phantasms and just smirked saying that he cannot thay any more I’d really hype a rework regarding phantasms. Nothing confirmed ofc. //sorryfor typos i’mi’m on my phone.

For us mesmers that could mean that Moa will become extremly viable and important to counter elite skills (like lich form or even rampage).

. I rather happen to like our class mechanic and such, and am rather happy that it’s not gonna be getting removed/replaced. Doing that that guy had described would literally be creating an entirely new class, and I’d rather not see mesmer disappear.
I also like shatters but in some way I want to see what new stuff they can come up with. I can think about so many ways to give us a mechanic that could fit the name chronomancer.
The next point is that our mechanic is not shatters alone, illusions are the more important mechanic imo. If they’d change Illusions they would not even need to touch the shatter skills to make the whole experience with our class change.

Uh, no. You’re forgetting that chronomancer is explicitly a subset specialization of mesmer, not a new class. The class mechanics are not being rewritten, they’re being tweaked. Basically everything you’ve said there is being pulled directly out of you know where.

Seriously I am hoping for a new class mechanic but as the ranger still keeps it’s pet I don’t really think it might happen.
Everyone is crying about what was seen in ~5 seconds of video. I think some of you need to get outside more.
What we know is that each profession gets a new specialization that would replace their core mechanic. And a new weapon for that specialization. So we see a video of what looks like a Mesmer with a shield casting a spell.
We also know that the new Revenant class has a new interesting mechanic and that by changing his elite, all his utility skills change.
So lets say that Mesmer’s does only get a shield as a new weapon with our specialization. Who’s to say that when we equip the shield, that the skills on our MH weapons don’t change with it. Maybe in addition to the 2 new shield skills, the currrent “illusion-based” skills on the sword & scepter will be replaced for new skills that support our new mechanic?
Maybe instead of everyone crying "we’re only getting 2 new skills
", we should be saying “SWEET, we get 8 new skills!!!”
The point is we simply don’t have enough information on what’s going to happen. And to scream bloody murder at ANet based on conjecture is just wasted energy.

I think I like the shield and greatswords for the same reason you dislike them, Bliss.
They don’t fit.
Mesmer, IMO, is all about unorthodox. No one would expect a greatsword on a caster. The same way you don’t expect a mage holding a sword. Shield falls into that Mesmerish category of “wow I never expected this on a caster.”

From a WvW point of view I can say that the portal is a really good skill IF used right. The thing is that I as a mesmer in my WvW guild am supposed to deliver: boonstrip, veil, reflection, quickness and damage. If I want to have all of these I am going with veil, nullfield and feedback. There is no space for a portal that has such a high cooldown.
As mesmer I am also supposed to shut down enemy elementalists, thieves and rangers and other backliners for which I’d need even more different utility skills.
I cannot provide everything of this in one build and in addition the effective use of a portal bomb is strictly bound to stealth/blink to which I switch when I’m asked to do one.
In WvW you do not have the space on your skillbar to take that skill with you when fighting. If it’s needed you’ll try to get ooc and switch.
How awesome would a version of diversion be that only sacrefices a single illusion on a rather low cooldown to provide more frecrentl interrups? I’d really kile it to just kill the nearest illusion and have a cooldown like mind wrack.
Do you remember the last time anet released new traits for our class? Remember what happened? Skills aren’t that different from traits, and I’m anticipating something similar.

Tbh I really support the idea of giving mesmers a shield. Mesmers are duelists and what weapon fits a duelist better than a shield (yes a pistol but we already have that). The thing is that I have tried realistic medieval combat with weapons irl using 2h-swords, kitten swords or short swords and shields (not sharp ones though). For duels my experiene is that a shield is the best way to go. It offers so much defence that you can easily overcome combatants that only use one weapon.
Months/years ago I begged for a shield on my mesmer BUT I always wanted it to come in place with another main hand weapon. A mace was my favorite thing back than because I thought that a mace imo should always be a weapon with great CC and that’s what we need.
The next problem has already been said in this thread: We only have two main hands that also are bound to Power OR Condition damage. We do not have a meele condition weapon and we also don’t have a ranged power weapon in our main hands.
Furthermore I fear that Anet got the “brilliant” idea to make the shield a condition weapon. We have 3 power based off hands (focus, sword, pistol) and only the torch is a clear condition weapon.
If we get a shield I’d suggest it to be a weapon that has very high defense and good utility.
I say:
Shield is great but please give us a new main hand too! (We really need it)
Come to think of it, a spell which forcibly resets an enemy when it expires would be awesome. Something like:
Chrono Trap
Mark target enemy. 5 seconds later, that enemy will reset to their position and state when they were marked. Effect ends without taking hold if the target dies.
What do you mean by “state”? HP, conditions, boons, cooldowns, …?

Clone generation WAS nerfed. Deceptive Evasion used to be a minor trait in dueling, in place of sharpened images. PvP complaints came in, and it was turned into a major trait instead. Not everyone wants sharper images in their build, but deceptive evasion was good for any shatter build, hell it’s good for the sole reason of othere feast and compounding power by keeping your c lone uptime up. So now if you want deceptive evasion, you have to give up something else.
I’m not sure how many ways I need to tell you you’re wrong, but you’re still wrong.
He’s actually right about that. DE was a minor trait in early game (i guess it was still in beta though). It was there and got nerfed really early. But I don’t think that it was nerfed because some guys complained but anet realizing that this would give mesmers a good trait in 15(3) points.
I don’t want that. I’d rather take:
I don’t care what you all say, I have tested the build out against the same mob and I was marginally down on time. So yes it does close, never said same.
The real problem with conditiondamage is, as fay already said, that condition/hybrid characters will never be able to deal their full damage when playing together with others. If i’d join you my pistol/focus phantasm would just erease your bleed stacks by overwriting them. That’s why zerker will always be stronger than conditiondamage.
