Your first MMO I take it?

Otherwise I don’t see why you’re complaining about a bot, considering every MMO in history has had bots.

Your first forum I take it? By your “logic” you may as well ask people to not complain about anything as it probably happens in other games too.

Um yeah, that would be nice. I’d rather come to a forum filled with helpful information, rather than one filled with people crying over every little thing that goes wrong.

Suggestion for lower level fotm runs

I think you should get an additional daily reward for running any fractal lower than your current difficulty, maybe something like 20 extra tokens. Obviously you would only be able to get it once per server reset, but I think it would help those people stuck in lower fractals. I personally have had no issues getting through fotm, but I’ve read and seen a lot of posts talking about people not being able to get a group, so until they figure out a better tier system I think this is a good way to get people to run lower level fractals.

Thoughts?

As for your firewalls all being off, you know that is a terrible idea right?

Disabled them because the client said that it might be the issue. Apparently its not, and the only issue is the maintenance blew up my game XD

Good job on their part

No it isn’t.

The exploiters get richer and a large portion of the player base get denied access to content and rewards.

And people wonder why the TP is in the state it is in.

How is it even an exploit?

It’s simply using your brain. Any MMO that has had different instances of the same zone have had people jumping instances to farm.

“Today I didn’t get anything” -> Anet must have nerfed drop rates!

Yup, it’s totally not RNG.

That was actually my first fractals 10. Clearly I wouldn’t have made a post about it if just one person had gotten a ring, but from the sounds of the forums it seemed like rings are pretty rare. So when everyone gets a ring all at once it seems a bit odd. Sure it could be RNG but still.

Oh, what content do you need to pay extra for before you can play it then? Must have missed something.

Au contraire, the cash shop doesnt offer me anything I want. So even if I want to buy gems, I wouldnt know what to do with them.

paid tournaments!? of course you can get tickets by winning free tournaments (theoretically possible) and grinding daylies:) it is a fine line anet is crossing… im wondering whats next? will it cost to rent a room in pvp? how much? of course you will also have freedom to do 100 other things to get your room, but if you dnt feel like it, gem shop!

so essentailly what you’re saying is making stuff optional and / or aquirable in other ways not just using money isnt enough for you? its still greedy / a fine line easily crossed?

What else do you want them to do ? any example of a cash shop in any game thats better then this?

League.

The cash shop is 100% optional. It pretty much just sells cool skins. You can buy xp boosts but it seems fairly pointless to me since since you’re learning the game on your to lvl 30, or IP boosts, but Riot gives out free IP boosts every now and then. My point is when you’re playing League the cash shop feels 100% optional. Players spend money on skins and stuff because they LOVE the game, not because they feel like they need to spend money to keep a competitive edge.

This.
I play LoL and their business model is SO much win. I’ve spent about 500 euros in a few months in their cash shop, just for some nice skin.
How many money I plan to spend in GW2 cash shop? ZERO. Not with this P2W model who forces you to buy gems.

no offence but isnt unlocking specific characters more pay to win then anything you could possibly buy in gw2?

No not really. There are some champs that are stronger than others but Riot doesn’t balance champs based on their price, they balance champs based on the metagame.

So you could buy a brand new shiny amazing champ with real money, and get completely dominated by someone playing a release day champ they got for free. And as someone else said you can buy champs by using IP, which is a currency you get just from playing matches.

But it’s totaly ok guys. The Dev team fixed the exploits that were allowing players to consistantly and easily beat the cliffside fractal; So all these new game breaking bugs are totaly worth that… yea. Glad to see the Dev team is prioritizing bug fixes.

Everyone has this conspiracy theory that Anet only fixes bugs that somehow gain them a profit, but really it’s just the fact that some bugs are far easier to fix than others. Yeah it’s taking them quite a bit to fix bugs that have been in since launch, but whatever, I’m still having fun with the game. Now if a year or so from launch those same bugs are still there, then we have a serious serious problem imo.

Just leave the novices up that spawn at the start. If it won’t start the 1st phase just kill one of them. My group just did it that way twice, worked just fine.

Although a work-around by the community is a very nice thing indeed, the fact remains that they should remove the particular instance from the rotation in FotM. Many players will just get frustrated and quit when unable to finish this instance and although those on these boards will no doubt find your post to be very enlightening a large portion of the player base won’t even be aware of it. Between this bug and the disconnects they should possibly just take the whole thing offline until it is ironed out.

Yeah I know, but I doubt they’ll do that.

Even if they did do that all that would happen is people would post about how pissed they are that fractals are down and how Anet always makes things worse and so on.

This is how things usually turn into when you add content ; can’t help it.

Not an entirely accurate statement. You should have added that:

“This is how things usual turn into when you add unbalanced content ; can’t help it”

If Fractals wasn’t the only dungeon that mattered (only source of Ascended gear for the treadmill, and decently profitable), then you would still have plenty of people running all kinds of different dungeons, world events, farming spots. The problem is that Fractals is so imbalanced with all the other activities in the game that everyone is doing it, almost to the entire exclusion of all else.

If Fractals was simply balanced and there was no power creep introduced, then the effect would not be nearly as strong as the one we have witnessed on the market.

The anti-treadmill people have been preaching and warning of this ever since November 13th when we learned the details about the Lost Shores/Ascended gear.

It must be your server.

I’m on sorrows furnace and it literally takes me 2 seconds to get a group for anything. From fractals to explorable runs to farming orr/cursed shore. Longest I’ve had to wait for anything is about 5 minutes, without using gw2lfg.

I just hit 80 on my ele YESTERDAY, and I have about 20-25 ectos just from salvaging rares I’ve gotten in fractal/exp runs. And I’m not even farming for them yet, I’m just salvaging those rares not worth selling on the TP.

Not really sure what you mean because I haven’t stepped foot in a single fotm dungeon and I’m still enjoying the game. I really don’t care what other people have or don’t have. I’m enjoying playing the game the way I’m playing it and once that stops I’ll stop playing, simple as that.

Ok then. Basically, competitive players want to have competitive stats. More casual players don’t want to play catch up for gear the entire time. A gear treadmill forces both these groups of players to change what they are currently doing and play catch up at arbitrary times (when the max stat gear is changed to an arbitrarily higher number). This is especially bad for those that are both competitive while having a more casual amount of game time to devote to the game.

You’re particular play style might not be effected by a gear treadmill, but many, many people have a play style that is drastically effected by it.

I completely understand where you’re coming from, but like I said if I ever got to the point where I felt like the “gear treadmill” was hindering my experience, and it’s something I did not enjoy participating in, I would just stop playing. Sure it would suck to stop playing a game after devoting so much time to it, but I wouldn’t spend my free time doing something I didn’t enjoy.

This is what I don’t understand about all the people complaining. Why do you want to achieve those goals? If you don’t want to do fractals then don’t. There’s still plenty of content for you to do. Find a like minded group or guild and do what you want. The guild I’m currently in has everything going on. Some of us do fractals and some of us run around completing zones or doing explorable dungeons or whatever. The option for you to do whatever you want is there, but most of you guys would rather just complain.

How do you not understand that you having arbitrarily higher numbers than someone else does not make that person happy? What if the roles were reversed and YOU are the one to be forced to have arbitrarily lower numbers? And then what if people exclaim how they don’t understand you, since you can keep playing the game with lower numbers?

This is not a difficult concept. If you are trolling then just please stop.

Honestly if only content that forces me into parties and dungeons are going to be added this is one player who isn’t going to do those and sadly at some point I’ll be forced to decide if I continue to play or leave. I’d much rather be roaming around and doing dynamic events, renowned hearts, and being my character. Instead if I want to be able to achieve the same goals as your so called " elite " players I’ll have to play the trend mill and endure what I have always hated the most about MMO’s.

So everybody will run one easiest dungeon time and time again?
No thanks.

It is already too much cof. I’d prefer more attention to balance of different exp paths. Because now there’re “easymode” paths that everyone run and “hardcore\bugged” ones that are being ignored completely.

An easy solution to that would just be have a limit on how many tokens you can get from a specific dungeon path each day. This would actually probably get people to run those paths that nobody ever runs. I mean are you guys happy with the current system? If so I guess I’ll just shut up and color, but to me it seems like an extremely bad system.

So the dungeon token system....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mercucial.6759

Mercucial.6759

Just a little background info before I rant. I started playing this game on the headstart, got a ranger to 55 and an ele to 65 before I quit playing. I’d say I logged about 150 hours in the first month the game was released, but then for some reason it just lost it’s magic. Anyway I started playing my ele again about 3 days ago and have been having a blast so far. I’m already 75 pretty close to 76, so I start getting excited about getting my awesome exotic sets. So I go look at the vendors, and I already knew before I quit that it took quite a lot of tokens to get a set, which is fine. So I find the stats I want, which is the AC set (of course.)

And here is my dilemma. The light armor AC set looks downright horrible. There is no other way to put it, it literally looks like a set of starter gear. So then I realize I would need to grind AC for hundreds of tokens to get the stats I want, and then grind CoF for hundreds of tokens to get the look I want. Is this really an “end game re-imagined?” Because it seems to me that this game has far more of a grind than the hated WoW, even without the gear treadmill.

Which brings me to my next point. I expected the population to have dropped, as it does with all MMOs, but most zones I’ve been through are completely dead. From what I can tell my server is still quite populated (Sorrow’s Furnace) considering last time I checked our WvWvW stats we were at 350,000 and the next highest was 30,000. Anyway the zones were littered with dead npcs and contested waypoints. Why? Everyone is busy grinding dungeons, just like in every other MMO ever.

I really feel like the entire system needs a rework from the ground up. Why not make each dungeon drop a universal token that we can take to any vendor for the look we want, and then let us pick the 3 stats we would like on it? Give us a chance to get out of these dungeons and explore the world you made Anet.

I really don’t understand the big deal. You guys don’t have to do fractals, you can literally do exactly what you were doing before the ascended stuff came out, so what’s the big deal? Let those who want gear progression go and hunt their gear, and you guys just keep running around doing jumping puzzles or whatever. And so what if they raise the level cap. Again you guys will be doing exactly what you were doing before the level cap was raised.

GW1 forced you to group that isnt the future of mmos this isnt gw1 this isnt everquest which both forced you to group that ruins mmos people want to be able to accomplish something without having to spend hours and hours looking for people. This system that GW2 uses is perfect for modern mmos and is the future to mmos.

Actually you didn’t have to group in GW1. Henchmen and heroes made a lot of the content soloable.

There’s like 1000’s of MMO’s with steep vertical progression, can’t we just have 1 game with more horizontal progression?

Honestly the term horizontal progression doesn’t even make sense. You’re NOT progressing. Why are you so against giving the people who enjoy working towards something more difficult (and I don’t mean through getting better gear) something to do. GW1 (which was advertised as more of a PvP game than GW2), had a far better end game than GW2, which is sad.

So why is it so bad that people want dungeons that progressively get more challenging, instead of the current mess we have where dungeons just seem randomly thrown together? And why can’t I have raids? Let the gear requirement stay the same, but a 10 man instance in this game seems like it would be amazingly fun. And why can’t I have DEs that actually LEAD TO SOMETHING? All those things could be in the game and you can still run around like akitten harvesting pumpkins and “horizontally progressing.”

At least the “gear treadmill” in other games gets you somewhere.

Grinding for the exotic gear in this game is like running on a treadmill for two weeks straight and still weighing 300 pounds when you’re done.

And no, I didn’t rush to 80 and blah blah. I currently have a 65 ele and 55 ranger, and I’m taking my time getting to 80. Also I don’t think this game needs gear progression, it just needs SOME sort of progression. “But the entire game is end game yada yada explore the world.” I have been exploring the world for the past 80 levels. Why even have levels if all there is to do at level 80 is exactly what I’ve been doing at level 1? And that right there is the issue IMO.

Good advice, except it takes a pretty long time to get a group for anything besides explorable CoF. People are content with just getting the exotic gear from there because it requires way less time/effort compared to any other dungeon.

Anyone doing dungeons to get exotic gear is an idiot anyway. There’s far easier ways to get exotics.

And it took me all of 15-20 minutes to put together a full pug group.

Honestly 15-20 minutes is a long time for those of us who work 40+ hours a week.

Not saying you don’t, but some people just see that as quite a long time to wait to run a dungeon. Also just because that’s the case on your server, doesn’t mean it holds true for all servers.

I can’t count how many great sword warriors I’ve seen jump into pug dungeons with their full glass cannon build and rage when they get wrecked. 5 signets and all traits/gear pushing damage. They charge, hit hundred blades, and get theirkitten handed to them.

so a lot of bossfights aren’t melee-unfriendly or just plain suicide trying to dodge stuff when you can’t see any circles under all the effects or trying to see a move the boss telegraphs in that big shiny explosion of light?

I’m curious how better gear/traits help you with these mechanics…

My friend can solo tank mobs in AC explorable. In fact it made the dungeon so easy, we cleared it in like an hour with no wipes. Maybe they need to nerf guardians… Or maybe more guardians/warriors could learn to appreciate the usefulness of a defensive spec and a mace/shield and 2H hammer.

Yeah I believe you. Especially with the aggro mechanics in this game. Mmhmm.

Its more cheaper creating a boss , putting him into the open world , rather than creating a whole istance-raids for 1-15 million dollars just for him and some filler-mobs .
And its more fun , fighting him with 200+ ppl rather than few ppl .

U should propose some world bosses fun mechanics :P

Except all the “world bosses” are just a huge zerg fest that take absolutely no coordination or tactics. That will not help keep the PvE crowd interested.

Almost every topic on the first page in this subforum is about how badly designed and tedious your dungeons are. Please let us at least know you guys have something planned to make dungeons more appealing, because honestly less and less people bother doing them every day.

Sorry if made already.
But this game needs Arena PVP. 2v2, and 5v5 pvp with ranked and gear just like WOW. Yes like wow. Why? Because its the most intense pvp that really test your skill when you get a good match. PVP so far just isn’t rewarding imo and seems tacked on.

GIVE US ARENAS.

LOL. So you’re saying that GW2 PvP, a game built from the ground up for PvP, seems tacked on but WoW, the epitome of tacked-on PvP, is perfectly fine.

Please…

The sad part is that the PvP in this game is lacking in it’s current state.
