The 5% increased weapon damage that you get from ascended weapons doesn’t apply to kits. Kits will infact act as if you were wielding an exotic weapon. The only things that change are that +4 power/prec that come with the increased stats, nothing that significat to justify spending a boat of money on it.

I hate Orr because of how frustrating it is to move around; 75% of waypoints are contested and if you have to walk, there are 92332 mobs that pull you, cripple you, root you, making it even more annoying to walk around (beside the permapoison).

They aren’t even that hard as you may be inclined to think (icebrood wolves cut your hp when they leap on you, yet I love them compared to undeads), but they are annoying as kitten. They are fast like sport cars, use all sort of lame cc, crippling, pulling, dazing, and keep you slowed down 90% of the time. When I’m on mesmer, it’s ever sillier because I got no condition removal and I end up getting kitten of poison on me, keeping me in combat for a good minute and with my speed cut. When you simply want to skip them, you end up being forced to kill them, because they are persistent. With a good nuke they get crushed, but they are a waste of time and often don’t let me get events.

Also, the underwater mobs are totally off the hook; some of them chase me for half map, lol, what the kitten is up with those? Infinite aggro range? Persistent as kitten

Also, distortion on signet makes no sense for half signets; the only signets that would proc distortion instantly are signets that already impair your opponent on their own:

  • signet of domination: 0,25s cast time, stuns for 3s
  • signet of midnight: instant, blind nearby foes

What do I care about being invulnerable for 1s if my opponents are blinded or stunned? The only benefit would be against groups of people and, even then, the benefit is too insignificant to justify occupying a trait in the duelling tree (that has a lot to offer). The only signet that would benefit from it is signet of illusions IF distortion activated on channeling, because it would protect you for 1s while you channel the skill but it’s not.

Making distortion activate on channeling rather than on activation wouldn’t be overpowered because:

  • signet of midnight is instant, it wouldn’t change a thing
  • signet of domination is fast cast, the change wouldn’t even be noticeable
  • signet of inspiration is usually involved in supporting builds; timing it to protect yourself and, at the same time, buff your party is very unlikely.
  • signet of illusions is the only one that would benefit from it, actually giving a little meaning to that trait noone takes and that signet I rarely see people using.

Besides, no one is going to run 3 signets for 3s distortion. There are so many awesome utilities that even putting one signet on your bar is already sacrifying some
cool skills that would grant you survivability and some kind of utility.

Does it apply only to #4 shatter?

I mean, there is a trait in duelling that gives 1s distortion for each signet used but that distortion doesn’t proc the reflection. So far, it only procs on the #4 shatter, distortion.

Is this intented to be this way or is it a bug? Does this trait really only affect one skill that, at best, got 46s CD? Is it supposed to not proc reflection on the distortion coming from signet activation?

Also, as far as the distortion on signet is concerned, it would be actually nice if the distortion procced when you start channeling it. For example, signet of illusions got a 1,25s cast time and the 1s distortion during the channel would actually be useful in order to prevent you from being interrupted while you channel it (even though there would still be that 0,25s window to interrupt you, therefore not making it totally 100% sure to activate it).

DPS and Meters

I just want a way for ME to measure MY damage and functionality and how MY gear affects it, and eventually adjust stats in order to “optimize” MY performance.

“How do I know if, as a phantasm mesmer, it’s better to go full power/crit/crit dmg or also throw in a “bit” of condition damage for the bleeds or healing for the regeneration?" – “How can I know if stacking might is better than go with utilities and other more useful tools? How can I know if picking up these traits and utilities I end up doing more overall damage but, since I have to stack buffs etc, in the end I waste time and also dps and functionality?” The only informations I’m given is that phantasms and me deal direct damage and so zerk is the way… but are we sure that there isn’t a certain value of another stat which would be beneficial to stack to a certain extent?

As it is now, it’s impossible to analyze MY damage or functionality because the combat log doesn’t even show pet damage, condition damage, conditions applied, boons applied, boons removed or healing done. How am I supposed to better myself? Just go with what others say (And they might be wrong too because it’s not like they are any different from me, as far as the informations given are concerned)? Have I just to “hope” that I’m doing good when perhaps I just picked up the wrong stats and am impairing my party?

To a certain extent, we are all living a little delusion where we are good and efficient when we could actually bring more to the table.

I’m just asking for a way to measure MY OWN performance. I don’t care about others, they’ll have to deal with their own, I have to deal with MINE.

As you may know, WoW got two combat log tabs: one that shows what happens to you and your opponents, and one that shows what happens to everyone. I’m asking only for the former. The current combat log only shows direct damage done and received. It would be extremely appreciated if it showed:

  • Direct damage done by/to you AND your pets/minions
  • Condition damage done by/to you AND your pets/minions
  • Conditions applied/removed by you AND your pets/minions
  • Boons applied/removed by you AND your pets/minions
  • Healing done by/to you AND your pets minions
  • Crowd control done by/to you AND your pets minions

Do you think you can implement all the above? In addition to this, do you think you could implement a PERSONAL damage meter showing average dps/healing, total dps/healing, highest damage/healing skill

Also, stop giving me the bullkitten of elitists and what not; there is a lot to gain, both for the newbies and the ones who are (or think to be) experienced.

Also, as some of you stated somewhere else, skills do not rely entirely on damage and so, people excluding you from parties just because you don’t do the same damage as them, even though you bring utilities and what not, already prove not to be understanding very well game mechanics and should be avoided and left in their delusion. From my point of view, it’s better for you… or do you prefer to adapt to random people who think to know what matters and what not and are arrogant about it?

Need help on condition grenadier gear

[…]

Thanks a lot for the in-depth answer, it was very appreciated.

From what you wrote, I understand that burning is a must in grenadier builds, whether it comes from IP or bombs or blowtorch but, if I’m running P/S (I like comboing the blast on shield with my fields), my only source of burning would become IP, which would lead to give up on sharpnel.

Now, would it be “fine” if I used sigil of earth on shield? That sigil has 60% chance to apply bleeding on critical hit that, coupled with sharpshooter, should make up for the loss on sharpnel… Here the build I had thought of http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqOlIqiY3zy3dEZ0DOrz2MQFAsPPYr0CCB-jgyAItASBAoKg5wioxWwiWNLIlvwqZwUpER1+gioVDA-e
Would that compensate for the loss on sharpnel or would it be even more favorable to go for flamethrower utility (even though that’d mean -1 utility slot) in exchange for sharpnel?

Thanks again for your attention

Need help on condition grenadier gear

in Engineer

Metallus.7690

Really, I’m at loss. Since we do not have a way of “measuring” our damage done, because the combat log only shows direct damage (not even dots, pff) and there is no dps meter, I’ll have to ask you more experienced fellows:

I would like to play a condition grenade engineer but everytime I see two different sides of the story:
- Some people state that grenadiers do not need any crit and are better off with carrion gear; also, the might stacks favor power too and vulnerability affects direct damage, so carrion is for the better.
- Some people state that grenadiers got many “on crit” procs and should roll rabid to proc those effects even more. Also, since grenades do low direct damage, power doesn’t benefit them much.

As you can see, I’m faced with these two options: many people suggested me in game one or the other way, and here on forum I read the same.

1) Taking into account that I would NOT like to roll full offensive gear (which would be rampager), which is the most “efficient” gear for a condi grenadier for wvw and pve? Rabid or Carrion? As you can see, I didn’t use the word “best” but efficient, meaning that I’m looking for the most damaging option (Yes, selfishly efficient option).

2) For a HGH grenadier, is it better to equip runes that increase might duration or runes that increase condition duration? Same for weapons: giver weapons that have a “built in” +10% condition duration or carrion/rabid weapon with sigil that increase bleed duration and also boost your condition damage? Here an example build http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQBVymKid6KBWUvjIgKAYie8YQ2k95xblWQIA

3) For a build like this http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQBVioKidqKtWUvjIgeAY1HeJqQ+95xblWQIA based on applying tons of burning, which gear would suit it the most? Since I’m spending 30 in firearms, I’m also getting 300 precision which add up crit; is this an invite to go for rabid or should I stick to carrion?

4) Last one: is berserker grenadier any good? Is the damage comparable to a condition grenadier or it’s far from it? In other words: what is the main source of damage for grenades, condition or power? Is berserker grenadier actually more suited for short encounters (since conditions take their time) or those 20 stacks of bleeds are overall superior anyways? I understand that conditions work in a lame way, but let’s assume I’m the only condition applier in my party.

Thanks for your attention, hoping you can shed light on these doubts that haunt me

Yeah it’s a rant, you bet it is. But also a suggestion to stop someone who is clearly impacting a large number of players and ruining the WvW experience. Just the fact that the guy wastes supply during reset is bad enough. This alone can actually determine the weekly outcome. If there isn’t something in the TOS then that needs to change.

Ahaha, and how do you intend to “change” the rules?

Let’s say a new player joins wvw to try it out, first experience ever, he picks up supplies and builds random stuff to try, should he get punished for wasting “your” supplies? Should he be forced to read a manual on how to thoroughly play wvw without screwing up before starting to play?

Also, reports like that break the rules and the ones who reported are the ones who are most likely going to be punished.

Metallus.7690

Can we get the option to “upgrade” our current equipment to the ascended version instead of having to purchase a trasmutation crystal to trasmute it to our current skin?

I mean, I have 8 different gears and 16 different weapons on my characters; I don’t want any other skins, I’m fine with these forever but this way I’ll need 8*6 + 15 = 63 trasmutation crystals in order to pass my current skins on the new gear. That’s a boat of money, in terms of gold to gems.

Also, I’ll lose the exotic piece in the process anyways, so, in the future, can we get an “optional” recipe that lets us upgrade our current gear to the ascended version, keeping the skin?

I’ve spent gems to purchase 2 sets of magitech armor to later come to know that I’ll need 12 crystals just to pass them on the new ascended gear…

Thanks for your attention

PS:
Or make those trasmutation stones somehow useful; maybe, by combining 3 of them you get a crystal or something along those lines.

Is it possible to add filters for Light/Medium/Heavy armor? It’s a serious pain when you are looking for a slotpiece of gear and it comes up with 900 results. By making it possible to filter out the other 2 types of armor, you’d get 1/3 results and spend 1/3 of the time in searching, making it less of a pain and easier to skim through skins.

Also, would it be possible to add filters for:
1) Dyes: unless you have looked up the color you want with the correct name, you can’t sort dyes depending on their tint. It would be cool if you could filter out dyes, like, only blue dyes or only red dyes etc.
2) Back pieces: you can currently look them up only using some particular keywords

Also, since the arena is a closed space with a roof, I’m having issues with camera angles; basically, my character is TOO close and during encounters that use lots of effects or have lots of AoEs, I can’t see a kitten. Yes, I just don’t understand anything because my screen gets spammed with stuff and I can’t change the camera much inside the arena.

For example
Against the salazan encounter, before killing it I died like 6 times because the flames occupied my entire screen and I didn’t know where to go because everything looked like hell. I had to overcome this with overpowered dps on my side.

Against the sniper, I couldn’t use the camera angle from above and dodging the killshot while avoiding mines was a pain since I didn’t have a clear view of the red circles around me. Oh yes, and about red circles, make the floor of the arena white. Trying to look for those nasty red circles in a net of yellow steel while beneath there is some hell going on is a pain for my eyes.

Beside that, I got nothing to add. I’d just like to have my visual not screwed up, as I’m used to use far camera angles (wow habit). The arena is fun and I like fighting 1vs1

Metallus.7690

1) I prefer going completely zerk but going by your options I’d go vice versa.
2 &3) These both must be tailored accordingly to your skill.
I like cruising around 50% crit chance and crit damage should always be as high as you can get it.
I normally ignore toughness and vit but these must be tailored to a point where you feel safe. If you want to aim mid range aim for around 2.5k armor and 20k+ hp
4) Not in my book

Thanks for the answer but I’d like if you went more into details

I’m relatively new to engineer; I played HGH grenade in pve and an alternative grenade build based on stacking burning duration in wvw (rocket kick, throw napalm, blowtorch) and now I’m heading towards a SD build.

I like the burst damage and I like the toolkit skills (especially the block), but I have hard times dealing with conditions and thieves’ burst. Conditions are a pain in the kitten , as my only condition removal skill lies in the medkit and the only elixir I’m using is S (not worth traiting for cleansing formula 409).

So, given these infos, what would be more preferable? 20k hp and 2.5k armor seems a bit too defensive even to me (I’d have to give up too much damage); do I need that high toughness for my purpose or should I stick with a larger healthpool?

Since you said I should get the maximum crit damage possible, I had thought of this http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUl0picnvSTF17IxoHkW0bG0j86X7KqQ+B-jwxAYLAiCQ6rIasthioxqdwUlER1ejioVDA-e
but I’d like to know if 18k hp is “enough” (I play with 15k hp on mesmer, but there I got many ways to avoid damage)

Gear for SD build?

Hi there

I wanted to know which combination of stats I should use in a SD build like this
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUl0picnvSTF17IxoHkW0bG0j86X7Kqg+B-jgQAEFoNFRjFA-e

Environment: wvw(both small parties and zergs)/pve(optional)

So:
1)should I go knight armor and zerk accessories or viceversa?
2) What is the minimum critical damage/critical chance I should aim for?
3)Which is the minimum hp/toughness I should aim for in order to have a minimum of survivability? Full zerk would be too gc, so I suppose a midway but I have to know WHICH midway.
4) Is toughness more valuable than vitality?

Also, I plan on using sigil of air on rifle (30% of gaining a lightning strike on critical hit) so I guess I should try to get more critical chance but I need numbers.

I would be pleased if you sticked to my questions instead of hijacking the topic somewhere else; I understand that for wvw it might be better to go with grenades for tagging etc, but I don’t care; I want to play SD and I want to use that sigil.

Do you think you can help me? Thanks for your attention

This stat combination is already available in pvp via the knight amulet, but the pve counterpart grants toughness instead of vitality.

I often find myself having more issues with condition damage rather than direct physical damage (that I know how to avoid) and therefore I tend to prefer a larger healthpool rather than an increased defense.

So, what about adding this stat combination to the list? Actually, what about adding any other stat combination as well? Like, Vitality/toughness/conditiondamage?

Metallus.7690

Why no clone on dodge?
I generate enough clones already through mirror blade (4s CD) and iZerker and remember that this isn’t a shatter build. Moreover timing diversion for a 4s daze is nearly impossible because, even if you are godlike at positioning your clones, your target MOVES. If this wasn’t enough, mirror blade spawns a clone at your target location and whether you have 3 clones or 1 clone sticking to your target, the result of your diversion will always be a 1.3s daze (since it doesn’t stack duration).

Also, this spec is quite straight forward: you go out there and openly dominate your target; you don’t have to hide or anything, since your target will have hard times doing anything to you, since you are harassing him with iZerker and interrupts, while stripping his boons. Really, he’ll have his mind somewhere else

By the way, I often find myself shattering 3 clones so really, it isn’t necessary.

Last notes
I tried it yesterday and it was extremely fun; the most noticeable thing is that players have little time window to do any damage to you and most of them don’t expect such treatment. Interrupt builds aren’t so popular and everyone runs the fotm shatter; also, they expect you to wear gc gear and try to wear you down with condition, but with 24k hp it’s enough to easily outlast those conditions and recover. Some guardian heavily specced in boons will still be hard to totally strip and retaliation is always a pain in the kitten .

I would like to say that I didn’t have any particular problems against other classes but a good 60% of them ran away from me during the demolition so don’t know. I was also able to solo 2 thieves but they were most likely horrible (one dodged twice my 1, so go figure). The AoE daze saved my butt there

I’m not a magus of pvp and there surely are some ways of making it better, but so far I really enjoyed this spec and, above it all, it was different. I’m open to critics and suggestions

Oh, remember to wear a cool looking mask when using this spec or it won’t give the same results.

EDIT:
Signet of domination would have been appealing if it was instant… but it isn’t.

[Build] Dominator/Dominatrix (spvp)

in Mesmer

Posted by: Metallus.7690

Metallus.7690

Introduction
This build is mainly meant for spvp and is based on locking down people and boon stripping, while dealing consistent damage. The idea came from the forgotten Rune of the Mesmer; I thought “there must be a reason if Anet created this rune, beside trolling his players” and decided to make it shine.

The build
30/10/0/0/30
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAR8flwzipXUTjGb9IBqHYP7cn0DTn6VXqQsB-T0AA2CoIkSJlTKjUSpsSNIZRymgDJPSA

Domination

  • II Halting Strike: you’ll be interrupting a lot and this trait is a good source of damage.
  • X Greatsword Training: you’ll be using mainly the GS and, with IC, your skills really have short CDs.
  • XI Harmonious Mantras: 1 more daze

Duelling (Mainly picked for the permanent vigor)

  • VI Protected Mantras: 400 toughness when preparing your Mantra of Distraction

Illusions

  • III Compounding Power: 3% damage for each active illusion. Despite having invested deeply in the illusion tree, the only shatters that this build uses are Diversion and Distortion, which are on relatively long CDs.
  • VII Illusionary Elasticity: 1 more bounce on Mirror Blade
  • XII Imbued Diversion: AoE daze (useful when dealing with more than 2 people)

Utilities

  • Ether feast: fat heal
  • Blink: great stunbreaker and great to distance yourself from nasty melees
  • Decoy: another stunbreaker and grants stealth
  • Mantra of Distraction: the core of this build and your main interrupt skill
  • Mass inivisibility: when things get hairy

Gear
A thing I noticed while playing mesmer is that I can avoid physical damage more easily than condition damage; I know how to kite and avoid direct hits but conditions are something that often screw me up and therefore I usually pick up vitality over toughness. Moreover, with this build and in pvp in general, reaching 100% critical damage is impossible and a 20% more crit dmg won’t be that noticeable. The gear used is Knight’s (Note: in pvp Knight’s amulet grants Power, Precision and Vitality). This grants good output damage and a large healthpool, in order to give you the time to digest those nasty conditions and recover while stealthed/LoSing.

The runes used, as mentioned before, are Rune of the Mesmer (+33% daze duration).

Weapons
- Greatsword with sigil of nullification (60% chance to strip a boon on critical hit): your main weapon and source of damage
- Sword/torch: I swap to this only when I’m chasing someone with iLeap or when things are getting hairy (The prestige)

How does this build work?
The basic idea is to strip people of their boons and demolish them when locked down. The first thing I usually do is forcing the dodges: Mirror blade and iBerserker do a good job at forcing the first 2 dodges. You might think “Hey, you just wasted 2 good damage skills, wtf?” but those skills are only a decoy to me: my true purpose is to misdirect their attention elsewhere while I strip their boons with 1 and 3.

After they got stripped of their boons, keep dpsing until they are at ca 50% of their hp (your skills have very short CDs: Mirror blade is on a 4s CD and iZerker is on a 12s CD) and then it comes the domination:
MoD, illusionary wave, Diversion, MoD
This combo provides good locking and, remember that 5% damage against inactive foes? This is when it becomes useful. I usually kill anyone that is below 50% hp with this because they have to deal with:
iZerker
Mirror blade (aka big purple stick)
Interrupts (aka Halting Strike)
All of this while I keep stripping their boons and dpsing with 1 and 3(hard to dodge).

I actually like the Orr temple armor on my Engineer, and to a much lesser extent the Invaders.

I really miss Arcanum, BTW.

Still playing it after 12y from its release.

My engi is named after Droch for some reason

We lack steampunk gear, that’s it. The only one fitting of an engineer is Sorrow Embrace gear.

I agree with the OP: introduce some steampunk armor and some rocking goggles (like the ones of the tools trait or like the ones of the “utility goggles”). Here an example of what would be nice to see:

Stunlock build

Someone Correct me if i’m wrong, but i believe stun isn’t considered a condition but a control effect, which means that condition duration wont affect it.

Ow, didn’t know, then the whole point of this build is kinda screwed up

Still got stuff to learn, it looks like. Got to totally revamp it, will edit later

Stunlock build

I had thought of a build based on locking down people while your team takes care of them. It relies on survivability and condition duration and it’s meant for wvw. Here the link

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAS5ejgOxu1OqOMRCAkir4yo4HiuHUSfYOA-jwxAYNBZChgc2rIasVxioxq0Jiq1PYe8ioVLFAELAA-e

90% condition duration, coupled with another +30% stun duration from mace/shield and there you get
Skull Crack stunning for 7s (and it’s even on a 8s CD)
Shield bash stunning for over 2s
Earth-shaker stunning for 4s
In addition you have two blocks and, to make this build even more annoying, you have 3 physical abilities that knockback and launch your foes, interrupting like mad (optionally, you can trade kick with Throw Bolas that will root people for over 7s).

Mending and Lyssa(mostly for the 10% cond duration) runes are there for condition removal. You could go for cleansing Ire and give up on some points from other traits but, if you run with a guardian/mesmer taking care of conditions, you shouldn’t have problems.

The damage isn’t exceptional but with those long stuns, huge health pool and armor, you have more time to recover and make your cooldowns (and your team-mate’s ones) expire.

I’m aware it lacks mobility, as your only way to get in range are earthshaker and bull’s charge but, if you decide to go for Throw Bolas, then that’s another way to stop your foes. I prefer kick for the knockdown

I still have to test it out and this is just a prototype; I’m kinda new to warriors and this is my first attempt at making a support build but I always liked to be the annoyer of the group.

I’m open to critics and suggestions on how to make it better; I’m ready to eat even the evil comments, as long as the end result is a functional build based on stunlocks and interrupts.

Thanks for your attention

100% Map completion solo ?

Metallus.7690

Soloed all the way; in my case, I didn’t rely on sheer power but rather on stealth. You got many ways to render yourself invisible or to slower down mobs that it’s np even getting nasty skill points near champions. Mass invisibility + focus curtain/pull will do the job for basically anything; cast MI, curtain, start channeling the skill point and, when you are again visible and the mob starts approaching you, pull. Then you just run away with blink or leaving decoys here and there.

The only annoying thing was really the lack of swiftness but, running with focus + centaur runes made it less detestable.

To get WvW map, you just wait for maps to rotate and go esplore your corner of land every week. Once again, invisibility does the job for basically anything and I like the thrill of it

Need help with warbanner/tank build

Hi there

I’m quite new to warrior and I’m sick of playing gc builds going with full zerker (I already have a full zerker mesmer) and, since I’m playing a warrior, I expect to be sturdy and hard to kill.

This said, I thought about picking up traits that improved survivability and support, such as the tactics tree, but I really need help with weapons, utilities, gear etc

The priority is that I have to last long while still dealing decent damage. My favorite weapon is the GS so, if you can help me building a spec around it, it would be awesome.

So far, this is what I came up with http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIMQNAR5ejgOJvxQCQ4wBAkir+yo4HgSPCrs0A-jAyAoLBZ6DEVIwZvioxW5KiGreBTXSEV7xLiWNA-e
But imo 30k hp and 3k armor is a bit overkill and I needed your help in balancing and optimizing my stats. I also would like to hear your tips on the build: should I change something? Should I pick up better traits? Will I do no damage with no crit? Should I pick up other utilities? What gear should I use?

Thanks for your attention.

PvE Mesmer, my clones die too easilly

I’ve been kiting with greatsword since when I first got one (meaning at lvl7).

Stay ranged, use iZerker for cripple and OP dmg and, when your target is in melee range, blink away and repeat. During the first levels I hardly ever shattered as I needed clones to pick up my target’s attention. Later on, with clone on dodge, shatter became more viable (meaning at 40), but nothing exceptional, really.

Mesmers start to shine at lvl 80 with full exotic. I’m currently levelling a warrior and it’s being such a cake compared to the hell mesmer was.

11,5s CD on MW with 30 pts in illusions?

Metallus.7690

Am I the only one with 1s more CD on mind wrack?

I’m playing a shatter build and I’ve put 30 points into illusions, which provide a 30% reduced cooldown on shatter skills.

Mind Wrack has a base cooldown of 15s, which should get reduced to 10,5s with 30 points into llusions (15*0,7 = 10,5). However, as you can see from the screenshots
http://oi42.tinypic.com/2psovvo.jpg
http://oi44.tinypic.com/pn5hy.jpg

it got 11,5s cooldown, 1s more than it should. The same applies to other shatter skills.

I’ve thought it could have been a bug and so I retraied and relogged 3 times (Anet, you owe me 10s) but nothing changed. I’ve also considered the option that it was just a visual bug but using the spell really applies a 11+s cooldown.

I hope it’s just a bug and not a ninja nerf.

What Kind of Mesmer Are You & Why?

I’ve always used the torch no matter what; I just liked the spell “The prestige”. I liked the concept of appearing, dealing damage and disappearing. Got attached to this playstyle and just recently PU got buffed, making stealth builds more viable and fun to play.

I’m currently trying out a retaliation/reflection build; here the prototype http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQRAsc8fl0zqp3TzqGbNJh5DE/MDmDdSFUdJF6m3A-jQyAYrBRTkCIRIyJvioxW4KiGraBTVmUlrgs3QZVIgRLAA-e
It still needs adjustments, but the base is always the same: torch. This time I tried to take advantage of the iMage’s retaliation buff, which is the only half decent thing this pitiful presence can provide. The main source of damage will be iSwordsman, while I reflect stuff back at my target.

Gear for SD/Rifle build?

in Engineer

Posted by: Metallus.7690

Metallus.7690

Hi there

I’m new to engineer and wanted to go for rifle + SD, traiting deep into Tools; I picked up this build because of the potential burst it has got by enhancing the rifle.

I’ll be quick: I like big numbers. It doesn’t matter if in the long run my steady dps is inferior to a grenade build, I want to deliver high spikes of damage and kite, while using gadgets and other utilities to get away from enemies.

Yesterday I spent some time on the calculator and came up with this build

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlspyUX7SyF17IxoHkW0bG0j86X7+pAbB-jgxAYrgk8KiGbZrIasKGM9JRUt7oIa1BBMK-e

But I have some doubts on the traits and the gear.

*Traits: I noticed how noone picks up the 20% reduced CD on rifle; why is that so? Is it not worth it? Are rifle skills on a low CD anyways to want such trait? Does this trait give you 100% chance to trigger combo finishers with combo fields (like iDuellist)?

*Gear: I guess I should gear for high crit dmg but I don’t think it’s a good idea to run a GC build, since I don’t have the survivability of my mesmer; in that link I mixed up berserker gear with some cavalier and knight, but I would like to know the optimal stat spread; how much crit chance should I aim for? Is 35% crit chance too little (I’ll be using utility goggles with its belt counterpart to time burst)? What is the minimum vitality and toughness I should aim for? Is 16k hp enough? Is 2.5k armor too much? Should I consider condition damage at all (since I also put bleeds/burning on targets) or it’s not even worth it? I would be pleased if you could provide concrete numbers.

Thanks for your attention and let me know if I should move some points from some trait to another or if I should drop some utility for another.

[Bug List] Bugged Skills and Traits

Using stealth skills in succesion makes you visible; however, this seems to be more of a visual bug, as you are invisble to other players/mobs.

How to reproduce: cast “Decoy” and, immediately after, “Mass invisibility”; you basically have two stealth buffs. When decoy’s buff fades, you become visible even though you still have MI buff. It does the same with “The prestige”.

I took a screenshot: as you can see, I got mass invisibility buff but I’m “visible”.

If you were a Dev, what's your solution?

Metallus.7690

Make “Illusion Celerity” not affect decoy, mirror images and other clone utilities while reducing the cooldown for those skills. We’d still have 32s decoy and traiting IC would only affect the CD on clone generating skills(1-5).

Make blurred frenzy an evade without increasing the CD (If I’m not traited in sword I get 12s BF, wth)

With this patch, too many CDs got increased:
1) Sword got generally nerfed: 20% CD on BF and 20% CD on leap (since IC is no longer easily accessible)
2) Decoy, Images, Disenchanter and Defender got their CDs increased for any non-shatter build

They wanted build diversity but instead I feel cornered into playing a shatter build, since I don’t like having long CDs on everything.

PS: The torment on block is ugly. It might be useful in some situation, it might deal decent damage but it’s ugly gameplay-wise. I just don’t like the concept of applying this kind of dot on a block.

I would have liked to see confusion replaced by torment for the 3° scepter skill and leave block as it was. This way scepter would have been more viable because:
- No longer confusion on scepter (since you kittented confusion to the ground)
- Good block burst
- 3° skill finally becoming rewarding

At the moment we have really unhappy options for mainhand:
1) Sword got nerfed
2) Scepter is still ugly

How sad we’ll probably have to wait months before a new patch kicks in.
