I am levelling all 3 in stages. Theyre at lvl 10 now.

Necro I have not been downed.
Mesmer I got downed once each in story and defeated once.
Ele I got defeated 14 times.

Yeah, I think you have an answer

I really struggled with the Necromancer around level 20-40. However, after level 60, this class has just became a major power house and actually has some really good survivability in PvE. I agree, the Necromancer was the right choice.

If they told people the odds a lot less people would buy them and they would make less money.

This may be. But my loyalty and view of a company will compel me to spend in other areas.

The way we are treated as paying customers go much further than most realize. Even if in the short term it costs them some coin…in the long term, if you’ve done right by me, I’ll be spending money. Lots of it.

I kind of wanted to quote Bruce Wayne here, but saw no clever opportunity: “You don’t understand. One fundraiser with my pals, you’ll never need another cent.”

“They told me there was nothing out there, nothing to fear. But the night my parents were murdered I caught a glimpse of something. I’ve looked for it ever since. I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge… RNG.”

Actually GW2 gold does have a direct real world value. There is a constant realtime indicator of the gold to gems value, and gems have a specific dollar value.

From the EULA:

You acknowledge that Gems are digital material with no cash value…

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-user-agreement/

section 4.d.vii

Am I missing something…?

Yes, everything. I would appreciate it if you could go troll someone else now, as this has nothing at all to do with the topic, let alone the point I was making.

I think the point that you are trying to make (which many players in this thread have already pointed out) is that you feel you are being forced to participate in this event, regardless of whether or not you think it’s gambling (that’s irrelevant, because that isn’t your point, correct?).

However, you are not being forced to complete that achievement in order to receive the back piece. There are 15 achievements total, and you only need 10. If you are a completionist, then you have to understand that that is your choice and you must therefore accept what some achievements may require. You are not being forced to do anything in a game, because it is a game.

No, that isn’t my point either. I’m not the OP, I’m just someone who responded to someone else on VERY specific points, and actually I do think it’s gambling, because it is gambling. That actually was one of my points.

I’m not going to do the Moa Racing because I don’t want to waste my silver. If it was cheaper, or could be variably changed to be cheaper I might concider it. Currently it’s too expensive to get something I don’t care enough about. Especially since, as you and several others have said, I don’t need it to finish the achievement.

Oh, I didn’t even realize you weren’t the OP! Sorry about that. ^^

I agree that it’s gambling, and I won’t be taking part (also because I am not willing to pay 50s, because I really suck at getting money in this game). If the price were lowered to 5s, I’d be happy to join in but it doesn’t seem worth it (only for the mini moa pet!).

Change race/order facility [merged]

in Suggestions

Posted by: Mimir.4690

Mimir.4690

I am against race change (though I certainly could be swayed!) at this time. Aside from a number of issues that other players have mentioned, I would also like to add two more issues I have with this.

The first being related to achievement points. You receive points doing certain story missions. Resetting your story mission would allow that same character to go through two sets of achievement points s/he should have not been able to receive without creating a brand new character. You are essentially asking that you be able to play two (possibly more unless ANet limits the race change to only one per character?) stories with one character – less work, you keep to keep all of your items, etc.

This could be resetting all of your personal story achievement points that were earned through that character. Would you accept that? (Also, resetting your personal story would mean that you could also choose a different order – If this was your only character you had received a medal for, say, the Vigil, should that be reset as well because you are essentially resetting your character… not deleting?)

My second issue with rewards. The solution would be simple: disable rewards. This would be another way for your level 80 character to earn more money, experience, and items. Granted, the money and items are relatively low in value… However, the experience can be substantial. From personal experience, I am typically able to get about half a level of experience per personal story mission (again, I don’t and haven’t kept track of this), so you could potentially receive a couple dozen extra skill points that you otherwise should not have gotten.

The solution for this, obviously, would be to just disable rewards.

If a race change was implemented, I would want the above issues to be considered… I also do not think that cultural armor should transfer to the new race. You are making the decision to change your race, and you should deal with some level of consequence. Cultural armor should be account bound so you aren’t completely at loss.

Precisely, best you wait until nobody is interracting with it.

The problem I’ve found with that is culling. I’ve gone up to a pinata a couple times and while it looked like there was no one there, turns out they were culled out and I didn’t see them til I got to the pinata and then they broke it and I missed out.

Happening to me as well. I do wait a couple of seconds, seemingly no one is there, but as soon as I went up to it, someone else would snatch it.

This should absolutely be individually based – I have not had many problems with the fire crackers, but this is happening repeatedly with the pinatas.

Great stories, guys.

I would also like to add another really defining experience for me as a Necromancer: Having finally reached my first level 80 on my Necro, I went along with a beginner group to do CoF P1 (my first dungeon with my Necromancer, and first dungeon since release) and while I did die a couple of times (some of which was the fault of downed state, grrr), I found myself being a relatively strong addition to the team of 2 mesmers, 1 warrior, and 1 thief. It was very encouraging!

Try and stand just behind the place where they spawn and as soon as they appear kill them, if all of your party members do this you should have too much problems.

I hope you had trouble killing the acolytes, and not jumping up on the safe spot? :P

We mostly had trouble killing the acolytes. Some players, including myself on one occasion (my fault for not utilizing my speed/defense skills properly) would die on the path to the safe spot, but not at the safe spot. :P

Thanks for all of the tips guys. I’ll definitely give all of these ideas (and watch some more videos on the path) before attempting it again. I am currently playing a Necromancer, also. Death Shroud, Spectral Walk, and Locust Swarm were all really helpful in getting me to the safe spot quickly, but actually attacking the Acolytes is where I ran into some problems. Thanks again!

Edit: So, watching a couple of CoF P1 videos… I’ve noticed that they all look easier. The videos show that, for example, running up the bridge there are next to no enemies… However, the four runs that I did yesterday had 5-10 enemies sitting on the bridge for you to break through, and then another mob sitting not too far away. The acolytes, also, were always already spawned by the time we reached that area.

Dungeon WP Revive - "In Combat"

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Mimir.4690

Mimir.4690

Hey guys!

(if other threads have been made about this, I apologize)

Yesterday, I did what was my first dungeon since the release of the game. I decided to tag along with a beginner CoF P1 group. Everything was fine, until I (and other players experienced the same issue) died and had to revive via WP. No problem, right? Well, until you attempt to revive and realize that the game still thinks you are in combat despite being dead. The “in-combat” remained for as little as one minute, and as long as about two and a half minutes. This was extremely frustrating. We were not speed-running the dungeon, however having 2-3 players on the ground dead and unable to WP because of this really halts progress.

I do not know if this is applicable to all dungeons, or if this is specific to Citadel of Flame.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a bug?

[BUILD] Crit Power necromancer

in Necromancer

Posted by: Mimir.4690

Mimir.4690

This is pretty close to the build I run. I’ve only just hit level 80 though, so I am going to try some more experimentation. I’m mostly a power dagger/warhorn wellomancer.

I also run 30/20/0/20/0, but with some different traits. I run the same traits in Spite… Hemophilia and Focused Rituals in Curses, especially for my “Blood is Power” skill and my two wells (Well of Suffering and Well of Darkness). In Blood Magic, I do Bloodthirst and Ritual Magic (also helps with wells). I’m interested in whether or not Bloodthirst or Vampiric Precision is more effective in siphoning health.

My off-hand is actually the staff, instead of the axe, which is incredibly helpful when needing some distance and aoe attacks. Is Signet of Spite worth taking along if you are a more power focused build?

(PS for anyone who may know… Am I allowed to join the Necromancer Guild?)

Hi, thanks for leaving a comment. The reason i take Reapers Precision over Hemophilia is that i find that 20% extra duration for 2 stack of bleeding with 30 sec cd is not really worth taking, with Reapers Precision i get more survivebility and since its a crit build its pretty easy to trigger it. also if you read my guide i usually use it on no targets for the 10 stack of might only (if no one gets the 2 stack of bleeds then neither will you get it). And for the reason i pick Deep breath over focused ritual is that this is a dagger build and you will stay on your target for the most of the time with the Deep breath trait it makes it even easier.

Btw im not saying that your wrong, just wanted to let you and other people know

I played a little more yesterday, focusing on the Hemophilia trait, and I think you may have a point. With a dagger myself who also has some focus on critical damage, I’m going to go ahead and try Precision. I’ve only recently gotten the hang of DS so having more life source is really helpful.

Deep Breath makes sense, of course, for your build because of the dagger/axe main hands. I use Focus Rituals, despite being a primary dagger user, for versatility with my wells (because as Enferian said, I’m pretty squishy and I like to use my staff in those situations lol). I think you have a pretty, albeit squishy, crit power build for Necromancers.

What situations do think are best for this build? PvE, WvW, PvP, Dungeons, etc.?

Guild Halls and Guild verses Guild

I definitely +1 this and I think it would be a really amazing addition to the game. Your ideas were very well thought out. I also support the idea of having Guild Housing being added into your Guild Map. Perhaps there are empty “plots”, one for each member of the guild (based on your Guild Cap – ie. if your guild cap is 100, then there are 100 available plots, and if you increase that cap then the map will already have an idea of where those additional plots can be added) where players can purchase, build, design, etc. their home.

There could be neighborhoods within the map where these plots and homes are available. I would love the idea of your homes becoming compromised during a Guild War, however not all members of the Guild are going to participate in these wars. There should therefore be a way for players to be able to get to and from their homes without being interfered/attacked by any invading Guilds. If there is a Guild Map, with a large field where dynamic events, ambient creatures, etc. are, then that could act as the battlefield. During a Guild War, maybe there is a portal of some sort that can take you to a neighborhood of your choice. These neighborhoods, as well as the actual Guild Hall, are closed off from “actual” invasion (a rest spot, if you will, that opposing players cannot enter), however if you choose to go into the field, then you take the risk of being attacked by opposing players. Of course, you should either only be able to enter the neighborhoods from the Guild Hall, or enter the neighborhoods while out of combat (so that players don’t try to sneak into one while being attacked).

Having Guild dailies and monthlies sounds like a lot of fun. And being in the Mists allows for so many potential event opportunities. I hope Arena Net looks at this and seriously takes it into consideration. Great idea!

I’d like to just add, in case people do not know, only Guild Staff can see a Guild Roster and it is purely just to see if members are still active/playing the game.

With that said, I actually think having it being set to last time representing is a good idea: just because a member logs in quite often does not mean they are contributing to your Guild.

And yes, this has been posted a number of times… No response yet, but I also sincerely hope that they are working on it.

- The trait/gear swapping should cost Only 1 silver/swap.
- To edit a trait template you would have to go to a trainer and PAY for it.
- To unlock more trait template slots the player will pay gems (600 gems or so..)

Arena Net wins! The players win! Everybody is happy!

This is a really great idea, and the cost to edit a template can be negotiated.

I still think that fast-swapping in PvE, while out of combat, should be allowed. This is just another way to practice skills against mobs; similarly to how you can switch weapons on the fly with a cool down, switching trait/skill templates on the fly would be helpful and still have a cooldown to prevent any abuse. I would also agree that swapping on the fly is not needed, or should not be added, in WvW (but of course, you should still be allowed to save templates and change them with a trainer while in WvW).

Skill Change and Cooldown

Mimir.4690

Hey guys!

So this hasn’t been a problem for me as a lower-level character, however now that I am reaching the level 80 zones, this is becoming more frustrating. I’ll use Southsun Cove as an example.

(The skill I’m using is just an example: I’m sure it’s applicable to any.) The map is pretty small, and you can run to your different destinations (that, and WPs are often contested). I carry a speed-boost skill with me to get to those locations faster, especially if the Queen has spawned and I just finished in one of the settlements. So I am running to the Queen and I get there. I have not been attacked, nor have I attacked yet and I have the chance to change my skill… Except it is still about 20 seconds away from its 60 second cool down. I would like to start the fight, or she’s already attacked me by the time it has finished… But I cannot change the skill because it is still in cooldown.

Rather, I’d prefer to be able to change the skill and just put my new skill into cooldown mode so I don’t waste a slot, don’t abuse the system to avoid cool down times, but still have that skill available rather than having to run away from the fight just to change it.

I am not asking that you guys allow us to change skills while in combat. But rather, for those brief couple of seconds between getting your destination and becoming a target, I would like the option to change my skill to something I can use for the fight.

Anyone opinions? Thanks for reading!

Yeah, the lock is that your not allowed to place it in your other characters inventory, put it on the TP or put it in a mail. You can drag it out of the bank however (in many cases with soulbound items you need to type the name into a popup window to confirm)

I can confirm this. I just tested it on some map fragments that were soulbound to another character I had deleted a while back. You can also right click the item in the bank and just select “Destroy”.

Super late reply, but thank you for that link!

My sister will be getting the serial codes to me later today, so I hopefully can prove that I own the game…

However, I also do not know the e-mail involved. Guild Wars 1 belonged to my brother originally, and then we shared the account (I paid for 2 expansions, he paid for the main and 1 expansion), and then eventually he just stopped playing and gave it to me. I recall at the time that the game would not allow us to change the e-mail address. I do not remember if I ever got the chance to actually change it to mine. I know his e-mail (can’t log into it of course), but will that cause problems authenticating the game is mine?

I realize that sharing accounts is against GW2 ToS. I don’t know if it was against GW1 ToS. If it was, will they not give me authorization to access the game? I remember parts of my characters names (they all had the same last name), so I hope that plus the serial codes, plus knowing the possible e-mail addresses would be sufficient.

You will need to get Prophecies (as it is the base game), but it also helps with your understanding of the game’s primary lore. Prophecies is massive and will keep you busy for a while. If you are interested in the Hall of Monuments rewards, then you will also want to get Eye of the North.

I don’t know exactly how I would feel with a legendary, but I recently went through something just as, if not more painful. At least that’s how it felt to me.

I was going through the tutorial mission on an Asura and as I was destroying the Prototype X, or whatever it is called, I suddenly got disconnected and when I looked at the character selection screen all of my characters were gone. I can’t describe the feeling I got, but I was almost certain that I would quit, because ArenaNet don’t restore lost characters as far as I know.

My client then crashed, and my internet went off completely.
After about ten minutes my internet went back up and I started the client again. When I got to the character selection screen my characters were back.

I haven’t felt like that since I was little and my mom as a joke told me on Christmas eve that I wouldn’t get any presents because I had been bad.

I do not have a legendary, but the amount of time I have put into all my characters combined would certainly outweigh any time I could place into getting a legendary. This happened to me in Guild Wars 1 before (my internet went out just as the characters loaded to the screen), and I understand that fear. I am happy to hear that your characters are safe!

They could have it so you can swap specs for 5-10 silver if you do it without a trainer. Like maybe 5 in PvE and 10 in WvW. Scaling depending on player level, and maybe decrease the price at the trainer.

Are you suggesting that it should be more expensive to swap traits through the builds? For frugal players, this would make build swapping relatively mute because they would still have to take the time to travel to find a trainer. On the other hand, I think a trainer should cost more money (although the whole money sink is a frustrating one to begin with) because you are basically paying their salaries (if you look at the game economy that way).

No, I’m saying it should cost more to swap on the fly. Like in the middle of dungeons, or running around in the open world.

PvE should have it has the system is now. no changes. As I stated above once you enter a PvP environment you should be able to switch to a PvP spec. I am totally against “on the fly” trait swapping

Could you perhaps shed some light onto why you are against it? We have seen a lot of arguments for, but none yet against.

Right Click User Name - Send Mail

Hey guys!

This is fairly minor compared to a lot of the other game problems, and this may not even be a bug, but I find that this feature does not work for me. I was handing out some free extra minis I found I had, and I wanted to make sure I gave those minis to the proper people… Right clicking their name provides the option to “Send Mail”, but when the window pops up, the username slot remains empty and I have to manually type in the name (and my only fear of doing this is if I make a spelling mistake with some of the crazy names out there!).

Anyway, I just thought that I would bring this to your attention, if this is a bug.

What do Necros do better than others?

We can level from 1-80 naked just by using minions I hear.

So can rangers.

I had a very hard dying when I played my ranger during PvE. This does not surprise me.

I hate 1-shots. I hate dying to invis mobs.

While playing the event last night, a large (and I mean very large) group of us were killing the karka at the settlement near where the Queen fight occurs. All of a sudden, dozens of karka spawned and we were all killed. Some cuss words were said, and a lot of us just laid there in disbelief. Very frustrating!

I actually really love Southsun (my first time there was last night), but that worried me.

I certainly would not mind this, however I don’t know if the Devs would agree to it. And if they do, with the negative assumption that they may not actually be working as hard as we hope/think they are, two things could happen: 1) Players would discover this, and of course we would call them out on it, resulting in… 2) Devs would just “click” the thread to show that they read it, without actually reading it, so that players feel all of these bugs/suggestions/etc. are being worked on. (Note: I’m not saying that this is true, but I will go ahead and take that perspective.)

Rather than having a “Read by Dev” feature, I’d rather just more open and better communication from the Devs. But, they’re probably too busy for that.

Gw1 (Nostalgia) Event

I was actually thinking the same thing. I see two ways of going about it.

We could all play as human and charr: For this we get to play as either humans and if charr, we could play as the other high legions trying to undermine Flame Legion controle as they engage in the war with humanity. Or even touch on the other aspects of the period that had nothing to do with the invasion of ascalon. Like what else were the charr engaged in as the humans were running around canthi and elona?

or we could be out own race while a-net gives us glimpses into more detailed history of the races at the time. Though this would be problematic for sylvari since they didn’t exist at the time.

Being able to play as a Charr and see life on the other side would be very fun, and probably enlightening.

If we do a GW1 Nostalgia event, can we please ride the worms?

No one knows yet and we probably won’t know until next Wintersday, or close to it anyway.

I’m hanging on to the materials I’ve got left, just in case there is a use for them. But it might turn out to be a waste of space.

Well, I’m happy to know that I am not the only person who may hold onto them, so I suppose I will. Thank you for responding!
