Thanks dude! Although I wouldn’t consider myself a “god”, I do tend to have some rare 2v1 3v1 moments lol. Lich too strong! I always experiment with new builds so make sure to check out the stream every so often! I tend to stream between 4pm-12am EST

I mostly stream Spvp, I run with my guild in Tpvp every so often but 1 of the leaders for our A-team plays a necro as well and although we have ran 2 necros in the past succesfully we dont want to get stuck in that team comp. So i tend to sit on the sidelines or play with a B-team, we have also been doing tpvp alot less lately.

This is the build the OP is looking for … it doesnt require staff and damage is sufficient it works by switching between your 3 channeled abilitys…remember 400toughness while channeling adds to power when you have the grandmaster trait “Deadly Strength”
You can also jump in and out of DS for an extended fury thanks to rune of rage

I have been running Dagger/WH + Axe/dagger or focus for a couple days now……come check it out on my stream! Its really powerfull. Im experimenting with several different builds atm….I dont miss the staff at all. Problem with staff is you lack a channeled ability so it cuts off your dps when you switch to it.

I’ve done support/bunker necro builds, but this just looks like an inferior wellmancer build.

For starters, Spectral Wall is pretty awful, and you’re basically giving up 2 utilities just to give an aoe chaos armor (and you weren’t staggering your explosions for double uptime, since they don’t stack) which is only going to give regen/swiftness on allies when hit, since they changed Chaos Armor for mesmer to no longer proc protection, but apply it when cast, you (and your allies) will only get protection if they actually run through the wall.

Compared to just going all wells, being more support (blind/chill field + boon convert) as well as more (and reliable) uptime on protection, and dark fields. I just feel it’s inferior. And it’s definately not reliable from what I watched, as your minions wouldn’t be detonating in the wall or detonating on other fields (such as your Well of Blood for a measly bit of retaliation instead).

And if you’re trying for a true “Boonmancer” build how come you didn’t go with 2 Water/Monk + 2 Grove rune combo?

Then the 5 point in Soul Reaping, that minor trait doesn’t actually do anything, it’s supposed to be a 5% overall increase in Life Force gain (i.e. 50 life force + 2.5 life force) but it doesn’t even do that. Not +5% life force for each ability that grants life force). Even if it worked it wouldn’t be worth it.

I’m not trying to flame you or anything, I just feel the specific build in the video overall is sub-optimal.

I also switched to Rune of Lyssa for the boons with plague form

I would consider trying this with Golem as both summoning and activating the golem procs it (with a cooldown however).

I agree with everything you said, this isnt the only build i run, my well bunker build is much more superior to the boonmancer build but I’d rather experiment with every option rather than disregard things entirely even if they are sub-optimal. Anything in the video is subject to change and I do list other runes that are available, I just happen to use grove in the video…..yes i know bone minion + spectral wall is hard to pull off but the combo is there and should be utilized. Remember it was only 1 play through with the build and my 1st time using it at that. Thank you for your input!

Necromancer Suggestions (Anet Please Consider these suggestions)

While I agree some of these abilities are in need of some kind of change, are these changes you’re suggesting based upon how YOU as an individual play the class or are you basing them on how the class should be played as a whole?
Example:
Signet of locust: you want it to be reversed. I cannot understand why. What is the reasoning behind this? Why do you think overall necros need a way to passively take life from enemies?

we have a whole tree dedicated to siphon life as of right now you gain siphons from hits / crits / minions / wells you can grab 3 of these as well as an option to increase overall siphons by 50%,, the majority of players say that life siphon is weak and i suspect the majority ignore this signet as a whole, reversing the effects will give it more synergy with blood magic as well as give you swiftness while you wait for the signet to recharge. I feel that the heal given by this signet is relatively weak and that Necromancer would benefit from a constant life siphon of course balancing will be the main focus when changing any moves. Maybe only allow it to siphon from 3 people max?

Spectral walk: Why do we need this ability to grant us stealth also? I understand why stealth is a benefit to anyone but what would necros gain by this change except making other classes call for nerfs? The ability already is giving life force and a, in my opinion, rather long amount of run speed also.

For the most part when you use spectral walk it tends to be in a “OMG HIDE” moment, running away is great and all but it isnt always practical, also roots and knock downs seem to effect it rather harshly, yes the stun breaks are nice but i still feel like it needs 1 last effect and i think stealth would be perfect for it, ending it early would give you stealth so (atleast in my opinion) if forced to end it sooner than you would have liked you dont feel as if you wasted the ability. The life force gain is best used in DS IMO, with the recent changes you can no longer teleport while in DS when spectral walk ends you need to get out of DS and use it…. this is fine! I have no complaints with that but if i do this and decide to stay in DS I lose out on the teleporting feature, I think the decision of do I want to stealth? Or do i want to
stay in DS should be made at this point. I feel like it would work out nicely without being to OP.

Overall what I am saying is can you explain some of the reasons you want these particular changes to the class. Would love to hear your feedback.

Blood is Power – Bleed yourself. Bleed your target and gain life force.
Needs a way to resist being removed … maybe a 30%- 60% chance to resist removal

Corrosive Poison Cloud – Weaken yourself. The target area is enveloped in a noxious cloud that poisons foes and leaves them weakened.

Needs to include cripple as well as do more damage

Summon Bone Fiend – Summon a bone fiend that attacks foes at range. Delivers a crippling attack once every ten seconds.
Needs to attack rapidly and do more damage,Needs to do a “is target in range check” before actually using its web. I would rather this one have a AoE pulse poison and 25% chance to grant you haste on auto attack.

*ALL MINIONS NEED TO RUN FASTER, AND EITHER HAVE REGEN OR LOWER COOLDOWNS

Summon Bone Minions – Summon two bone minions.
Needs to be a instant cast, they are to squish to have pre-summoned and their auto attack is useless, having to cast this slows my dps and by the time they are out the enemy has moved out of reasonable positioning and i can no longer explode them on the target i wanted to. Also could be switched to summon bone minions ( again instant cast) to attack your foe (again dealing more auto attack damage) 30% to explode when it attacks. Blast radius needs to be increased to 600-900, 240 is a joke

Summon Flesh Wurm- Summon an immobile flesh wurm to attack foes.
My favorite minion so far yes it is immobile but it is by far the hardest hitting besides golem and its teleport is more usefull than people know. Only addition I would add is instant cast or reduced cast time and peircing.

Summon Shadow Fiend – Summon a shadow fiend to attack foes.
This one is the minion that should have Immobilize not Bone fiend, single target blind? Thats a joke right?
Man if i were the developers i would have had so much fun with this one:
Summon Shadow FiendHarnesses the power of shadows and replicates itself every 5-8 seconds while in combat, up to 3.

Shadow’s Grasp- Teleports to target immobilizing them for 4 seconds, teleports back to user explodes dealing aoe damage and granting stealth.

Signet of Spite-
Passive: Improves power.
Active: Inflict bleeding, blindness, crippled, poison, and vulnerability on your foe.

This coupled with signet power is how i see it being used and the might is a nice substitute for the power granted by the signets passive but,THIS SIGNET NEEDS TO HIT HARD! AND I MEAN HARD! LIKE OMG WTF JUST HIT ME HARD, Either that or add a fear to the list of conditions it adds.

Signet of the Locust
Passive: You run faster.
Active: Steal health from nearby foes.
These effects need to be reversed it needs to grant swiftness upon activation and it needs to passively Siphon life (not a weak siphon life either 150- 250 a tick might be enough)

Signet of Undeath
Passive: Generates life force while in combat.
Active: Revive up to three downed allies in a target area.
Simply needs to grant you stability (or random boon) based on how many people you revive, as well as granting 5 secnd stability to those you revived. This is a great signet and works even better traited but i still feel something is missing.

Spectral Armor – Gain life force as you take damage. Removed when you enter Death Shroud. Also applies protection.
This one NEEDS to add stability no question about it, why it doesnt already is beyond me.

Spectral Grasp – Pull your foe to you and chill them.
Needs to stop being “OBSTRUCTED” by nothing, needs to be instant meaning increase projectile travel speed so its near instant. Needs to shoot out from any direction regardless of the direction the player is facing

Spectral Walk – Create a shadowy tether and become spectral, gaining life force when struck. You may return to your initial position by using Spectral Recall.

Needs to grant stealth for 3-5 seconds upon spectral recalling

Spectral Wall – Create a spectral wall that protects allies and makes foes vulnerable.

Needs to be Spectral Barrier, creating a dome barrier similar to guardians whether it knocks back or not is questionable but this thin wall needs to change.

Wells Dont need any changes.

Just to clear things up Spectral walk always allowed you to gain LF when hit although i dont think it was written in the tool tip… Although this works much better while in DS as you gain life force instead of losing it. Spectral walk > Death shroud > Life transfer > ??? > Profit

I switched to your setup it is indeed much easier to set things up with dagger/WH and plague form makes you a beast idk why I didnt use it in the 1st place since my bunker build uses it lol golem is still fun tho and it takes out half the trebs and gates life in 1 charge lol thanks for the advice!

I really like this concept behind this.

In its current state, it doesn’t seem terribly effective in sPvP; for example, in the first skirmish at graveyard, you weren’t able to boon up / assist your teammates enough to keep them from being downed by the enemy team; it looked like it was either 3v3, 3v4(their favor), or 4v4.

Another thing I’m not liking is thekitten ai that bone minions exhibit; they can’t reliably combo with ethereal wall. Which is upsetting. They need to gave us a reliable nova to blast combo with. Until such time, I suspect Well of Darkness to blind would probably be a better defensive tool than bone minion for Chaos Armor as a defensive tool.

I’m not sure if it’s better than the run of the mill wells bunker build, but it’s definitely different, and I definitely like the idea. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the input without being rude! And for sure i have a build that can bunker much better than this and it does use well of darkness, and yes the ai for minions in general is crap, but i believe once a bunch of stuff is fixed for necro, builds like this will start popping up more often, so for now I will continue to experiment with it. My goal is to have people start moving in the right direction or atleast in a different direction this way once our bugs are fixed and the class in general is tweaked we will already have multiple builds and ideas to play with. Thanks again for your input.

If your trying to be support spec your doing a very bad job. You don’t cast your abilities to help other players only your self. Your ability to take damage is very low. When ever 2 or even 1 player attack you your health drops like a rock.

If your going to run a support spec than you really should support the players around you.

Like i said this was one run through you cant act like you know my playstyle or how i play in a group based off 1 pvp session especially when i state that it is the 1st time im running said build. And yes i did notice my health did drop a bit to quickly but i also noticed how amazing my heal was, the very begining of the video i was being chased by 3 after running into a zerg of course im going to be bursted down and on the defensive and I am currently looking at ways to improve it, but to totally kitten on my video calling it and myself bad is totally just being rude. You seem very angry mr angry squirrel

IF necro wouldnt be so bugged go full 30 into Death magic and then 10 into Curse for Chilling Darkness for Plague of Darkness, swap solider for cleric amulet and reverse for gem and Path of Midnight over Spectral master because a 600 radius 3500 heal (right now transfusion is bugged and doesnt scale the life transfer heal so its around 2600).

In terms of runes, Dolyak is too weak (30 hp pre second but doesnt scale and doesnt work while in DS thus kinda useless), Monk was nice, especially the boon duration, but i just like chill more, Ice works great if the enemy has a lot of squish, but i am biased because Grenth is kitten, Lich works great too, but i already hate that the enemy has Reanimator minions to rally by… (would be rune of choice if minions didnt rally and traits worked).

Right now Dagger works wonders, but it is true that swapping to axe/focus will probably be better post trait fix.

How are you helping? You show a video of you fighting in spvp not tpvp, vs bad players. Your damage is so low, any time its 1v1 it is very evident that your doing no damage. You were mostly ignored for a lot of the time and you didn’t even do damage then.

This was a bad video and shows not much of anything.

This isn’t a damage spec per say more of a tanky support, this was 1 run through with the spec and as i stated its still very much so experimental, there are other specs that I have that will do burst damage but thats not what i wanted to accomplish with this spec. Every spec becomes that much stronger in Tpvp for the simple fact that you are no longer getting 8v8 zerged and as i stated before I want players to get away from the stubborn mindset that only 1 build is viable for necromancer. I wanted to show that there are still aspects of this class that people aren’t utilizing. But thanks for trying to bring me down!

As for the damage aspect you can easily slap on rune of the fighter take out 5 points in SR add it to spite and gain 30% minion damage, or ignore the healing aspect of the build and slap on soldiers amulet nothing is set in stone it is all experimental

You also failed to understand the concept of the build if all you looked at was damage

your necromancer looks not as strong as other classes at all. same weak and slow like all of us here. have you ever seen other class video?..

note this isnt the only build I run nor am I saying “THIS IS 1337 GUYS TRY THIS BEST SPEC EVAR!” comparing classes to other classes you will always find flaws and weakness and that another class can do it better regardless of what class you talk about, i dont need to see other class videos to know just how strong some classes are but again im not here to say how amazingly awesome this build is, it’s more like there is more than one way to build your character and if we always only stick to one thing or always complain how other classes can do it better than we as a community and the overall profession meta game will never grow, atleast not untill they patch necro. I hope we dont turn into FOTM anytime soon either.

And thus everyone gets to know a setup almost identical to the one i have been using (only Plague as ulti since golem tends tokittenfor me and i like the toughness, dagger warhorn instead of Axe Dagger with runes of grenth and sigil of hydromancy to almost permachill the enemies – weapon swap, heal, chillblains and if it would work chilling darkness with plague form).

They are meant for the 3o point trait in death magic that leaves a cloud of poison when your minions die….you can see this best if you have the trait as well as lich form and summon the 4 jagged horrors….10 seconds later and the whole field is covered in poison…..other than that they are useless and bugged out

Tony! Dont listen to the haters (im sure your not) what works for you and what you find success in is right and will always be right as long as you succeed, I find people are afraid of moving on to new things and experimenting beyond what the majority says is the only thing that works. GW2 was built on the principle that every class can be built to fill whatever role is needed or what you want to play as, people seem to forget this and bash you for being different …. yes some builds really do fail, but if your not failing and others are they automatically scream “FAIL BUILD IS FAIL” but do not realize that they must not be playing the build as well as you are…either way nice build I had the chance to try it out and it does indeed work although im not a huge fan of berzerkers but the damage caused by it is undeniable. Keep doing what you are doing Tony!

P.S. I noticed your on Fort Aspenwood… I am on the same server add me on friends list (Ellisd) we should mess around in structured double necro style some time!

I’m still deciding on what sigils to use im thinking +healing on kill as well as sigil of battle and sigil of energy for my staff but again i’m still unsure this is why i didnt include it in the video that and people tend to have their personal favorite runes / sigils so pick whatever you feel comfortable with. I’m thinking of swapping out rune of the grove for rune of lyssa, only problem with this is i would have to save my golem untill i need all buffs for 5 seconds, I may try a combination of lyssa and grove and report back.

This gives me hope, and I saw your teammates video yesterday and was actually hoping you guys would come out with a Necro one. I’ll have to try your build, but I do prefer to be focused a bit more into DPS than tanky support.

This thread is not that I am not here to argue that necromancers dont need fixing because they very much do, instead I am here to evolve the meta game and try to take the class as far as I can while I’m still interested in it. In order for this to happen I have to let go of all the preconceived notions about the class and try to work around every single possible corner I can. I’ve been constantly experimenting with builds since beta and I’m sure I’ve tried stuff that no one has ever thought of before.

In light of everyone saying there is only 1 viable build, I would like to discuss build variations and experimental builds that I have been working on.

Everything in the video is experimental and always subject to change but I would like to attempt to move this class forward, so intelligent discussion is favorable (no trolls) critizism is fine.

Only 1 video is available now and others are on their way. As of right now I would like to share with you some builds I may be speaking about in future videos and acquire some feedback on how I can improve them. Feel free to share your own build if you feel it is unique and want others to be aware of it.

I have many directions I want to take necromancer in but feel I need to wait for future buffs to the class to do so, either way here are some builds and minor explanation.

Max Power Build ( No Signet of Spite)
2400 Power total

This build is a single target dps build it focuses on your channeled abilitys Life siphon, Chastly Claws, and Life Transfer to deal majority of damage, it also utilizes bone minions and well of suffering for the extra burst.

Ghastly claws > Life Transfer (Switch weapons in DS) > Life Siphon, you can also do other more complicated rotations but this one is the simplest. Requires intelligent placing of wells and good use of bone minions.

Strengths: Amazing single target damage, burst combos are available using well of suffering and bone minions + auto attack daggers. Lich form provides more burst as well as summon 4 jagged horrors which die and leave the ground covered in poison. Jagged horrors summoned from killing things die and leave the ground covered in poison.

Weakness: Lack of staff removes alot of utility such as condition transfer, fear, regen, blast finishers etc. Channeled abilitys are slow to start up and while they do alot of damage they are no 100 blades. Jagged horrors benefit enemy players using on kill sigils as well as revives downed allies upon death. No stun break. Lacking condition removal besides consume conditions.

Condition Power Build (Hybrid)

I’ve been working on this build for a while now with many variations, and I’m desperatley trying to make it work, the blood is power buff is a step in the right direction but overall the build is lacking uptime mostly because of the lack of stun break and overall squishyness, I try to work around this by using poison cloud, and both of my enfeebling bloods for aoe weakness it works decently but it isnt enough. Runes are subject to change.

Strengths:
Doesnt rely on 1 source of damage, Dagger auto attack crits are incredible and sigil of rage usefull in most situations. High crit damage, channeled abilitys crit often and apply bleeds. Signet of spite enables 12% damage increase on a foe for about 5 seconds. 2 Enfeebling bloods and corrosive poison cloud for heavy aoe weakness.

Weakness: Very Squishy and no stun break, besides spectral armor at 50%. Lack of support utilities. High skill cap.

Fury Build (Perma Fury)

This one is still completely experimental I’m not going into strengths and weakness on this one, I’d rather just explain the concept.

High toughness, High crit damage, Lower power balanced with perma fury.

Concept: Keep Fury up as long as possible by “Shroud dancing” keep Life force above 50%

This thread is dead and should be closed.

1) There are a lot of people new to elementalist who do not understand the class
2) There are a lot of elitists who deem themselves awesome but actually aren’t
3) We have ALL established (even those defending, which defeats the purpose) that elementalists are indeed not as easy to play, or easier than other classes, and has no niche, and needs a buff to trait synergy and downed state.
4) ANet are still silent
5) You people with your silly videos vs random newbies trying to prove ele is OP makes me laugh.

If people are still reporting that they have received help from the O.P’s video then the thread is not dead and should not be closed, ele’s are strong and can survive very well, you yourself has proved it, I fought you on my necromancer the other day when you transferred to the US servers, while you did over exaggerate your wins a bit and said you would have beat me if the game time hadn’t run out (not true it would have gone for another 1-2 min or so)you were still able to survive very very well, granted I was a experimental spec (with spectral grasp lol). You did manage to survive my lich burst which was me kinda trolling a bit (good use on LoS on your part) and I shouldent have used it as early as i did. Either way you manage to survive proving not only are you good at ele but that they can survive burst damage (atleast from necromancers, but then again everyone has trouble with warrior, thief, mezmer burst it’s not only Ele). I believe once these popular builds are balanced out elementalist will work itself out to be the most unique class in the game and hopefully not broken.

I consider Necromancer to be even weaker than ele right now (the amount of options in utility alone triumphs necromancers. Survivability and group support is probably greater than that of a necro as well. In tourney’s elementalist get even stronger, I was 1v1 a ele yesterday as a conditionmancer and although he couldent burst me (yes he tried very hard) and i couldent burst him (condition damage) I also couldent get him below 50% before he was able to get back to full health similar to what you were doing (yes he did use LoS as well but either way his survivability was insane) remove 8v8 zergs and you got one powerfull class on your hands you should know this by now.

I feel like every class that cant do 20k damage in 3 seconds are asking for a spec that can do so, (not saying this is what you are asking for, although high risk high reward ease to play seems to be your main argument, only skimmed through the thread so i could be wrong and sorry if I am I dont mean to come off as disrespectful or rude) so they can feel viable against the classes and the overwhelming number of players that use them….gw2 needs to move away from this bursty meta game in general so adding more of it really wont fix things…at least in my opinion. My favorite 1v1’s tend to be when both of us are at 5% trying to get that last hit in before we drop, and even extending the fight into downed state due to DoT’s or something, this to me is balance and this is how every 1v1 should go.

Keep in mind that some professions are harder to master than others. I believe Necro is the hardest, opinions may vary, but just keep this in mind. No we arent ignoring Necro, but once people start mastering DS, I’m afraid of how strong Necro will be. Give it some time for the average player to learn these things. For example early on in LOL master yi was dominant until people learned how to counter him.

This is not utilizing DS but necro damage is there at least for pvp…

I myself run a bunker well build that goes toe to toe with any guardian, and is capable of holding off multiple people untill help arrives. Guess what my secret is? DS and creative use of utilitys.

While yes necromancers are quite buggy they aren’t as bad as everyone says they are.

Blood fiend needs some major rework as well. Jagged horrors are laughable why gain something on the death of an enemy that does damage to the enemy you just killed? Instead make it chance on hit like the lich runes. I like the idea of them dieing and leaving a poison field as it is pretty fun specing 30 into death magic and using lich form spawning 4 jagged horrors and seeing the entire area covered in poison.

Also change the minion skins I seriously thought they were place holders when I played beta but I was wrong. The fleshreaver is pretty cool also makes me wonder why this wasn’t a necro only minion.
