Well of course all of that would need to be fixed, I just thought people would be smart enough to figure out that such aspects would need fixing, felt no need to really explain all that.

Not having more reliable stability as an attrition class with zero mobility just baffles me. A-Net is really disappointing me.

I have 2 ideas on why anet is hesitant on adding stability to the class. Lets first look back on the reason why spectral armor never gave stability. The official answer was “we didnt want to make spectral armor a staple in all necro builds”. Fair enough adding 5sec+ stability to SA is enough for every necro to choose it in pvp. (Although I think necros would still stay away from it in wvw sw or wells are still better options)

Reason #1: They want to focus on heavy group coordination meaning necros should be getting stability elsewhere and should learn to work with that.

Reason#2 They do want to give necros stability but dont know where to add it.

Consume Conditions, Unholy Feast, Tainted Shackles, Spectral Wall are all good potential sources of stability.

Consume Conditions – Consume more than 5 conditions and gain 3 second stability
Unholy Feast – Amount of targets hit = Seconds of stability
Tainted Shackles – Amount of people immobilized (Not teathered!) = seconds of stability
Spectral wall – Run through 1 second stability

TBH there are only two ways in which to “fix” the necro at this point.

1) Give us a reliable disengage. No I’m not talking a worm that allows your opponents to catch you with in 2 seconds because they have the ability to actually move faster than a snail on Prozac.

2) Make us truly fearful to get close to, DS 4 and 5, could have been this, but they fall short by needing a long recharge before they deliver their minor damage.

Until either one of these two are seriously looked into, then tweaking a few numbers on our weapons/utilities/traits will still make us the first target in any match.

The dumbfire/fear combo is our only viable build and considered dangerous with a high condi. However for a class that is suppose to be versatile it doesn’t make the case by being pigeon holed and again falls short.

No, fear dumb fire isnt the only viable build….I for one never run it and have great success. Ever think that the reason so many of necro complaints are similar is because everyone is running the same stupid build? They arent touching our mobility they insist that we dont need it so drop that. There currently is a way to make us truly fearfull in DS! No one will target you if you do it! I PROMISE! biggest problem is no one takes full advantage of it! Did you know Necros scale in survivability depending on how many people are on them? Or how much pressure they are currently in? How?? ???

Havent been on these forums in months but it looks very very sad….. I love every change that has happened and will happen except for staff 2 but w/e its just being reverted back to how it used to be…. 50% VP gg…..wat…this has to be the biggest “USE THIS TRAIT” incentive necros ever recieved expect nerfs to 35% hopefully not for a while…or ever

p.s run energy sigils…and if you really need to adventure runes…it changes necro completely….

The no brain build is probably 30 points in soul reaping, life blast is incredible with high crit chance…. unfortunately prior to this patch there was no real way of making use of high crit chance in DS unless you went berzerker or tried to make a perma fury build which was unreliable. So many players avoided it. The already zerker necros are no strangers to huge life blast crits, but this patch enabled them to spec in a way which makes their sustain incredible for zerker style game play.

The range increase on life blast is what i suspect people are noticing on necro as well as the range scaling aspect and overall improved damage on life blast. This coupled with better LF regen makes necros deadly in DS.

Soon you will see players adapting to this change and dodging every life blast they can because they will figure out this is whats causing them to lose.

For those not specced in SR and are running a 30/30/10 build your still running high power high crit low crit damage but coupled with long condi duration, burning and terror, this makes it a great condi burst spec with one weakness that you will see players capatilize on once they figure out what it is. (Squishy, low mobility besides spectral walk if your running it.) Also once players figure out its not worth hitting a necro in DS with spectral armor or walk on and instead using crowd control untill the necro is out of DS we will see some balance in gameplay.

General Tips: Go into deathshroud and spam life blast from a distance lol
Use Spectral Walk hop into DS, anyone hitting you will cause you to gain life force instead of losing it or just stay at a certain percentage of life force, this allows you to spam life blast for the full duration of spectral walk. Use Dark Pact to trap people in well of suffering, you could also use tainted shackles to keep people in wells. (You could grab LB pierces instead of soul marks as well)

(Once you use adventure runes combined with energy sigils theres no going back trust me its to good for necromancer)

Tbh, i can’t see why necro got so much more OP now…? I am clearly missing something…

the only good thing that made us stronger with this patch is short CD on wells and torment…? What did i miss?

Spectral and DS buffs are amazing, not rly a buff since we secretly had lf gain in ds in beta but it got removed…return to glory for older necros and DS utilization for newer necros

Hehe Ds is op incoming nerf crys…. The 50% crit in ds is anets reaction to necros perma fury builds being unviable….. They just opened up a whole new world of necro power builds. Also dhummfire power builds will most likely utilize axe minions and deathmagic with carrion

@Walk, no. That was a big reason that DS bunkers existed.

Just make Grasp work every time it hits, and make it more reliable to land; give the opponent the obligation to force it to miss, not put it on me to magically land a weird pull.

From what i remember almost no one ran spectral walk in tpvp back in beta

1.The tool tip never displayed that life force gain was possible i just happen to learn it by mistake. When lf gain on SW was announced everyone was excited at this new change yet no one mentioned it was possible prior to that update. Most ran undeath signet and spectral armor to bunker.

2. Spectral walk is most commonly used as a stun breaker to get away from opponents, alot of times we are forced to use its teleport soon after initial activation, before the ability ends due to chain stuns or large amounts of damage taken and we lose all real benefit from it except sacrificing health for life force. Therefore its usually best to use this ability at the begining of an encounter, i.e activating on sidlines foefire midfight or on higher ground i.e nifihel keep and running on point take damage to build life force then teleporting back to the sidelines where youre safe from most opponents instead of using it as a bunker mechanism(build life force on point and use its teleport feature with small distance gain)

Seeing as how the devs seem to want to bring DS tanks back by allowing better life force gain i think this would be perfect.

Just realized this would also solve the no life force at the beginning of battles problem most players seem to face.

Although teleporting players with grasp is a bit much, I think something should be done about about trying to grab your target and end up grabbing a clone or pet instead of the actual target. Ok so wait until the opportunity is right then grab them! The problem with this is the opportune moment almost never appears and we are stuck with an ability whos only use is to interrupt or peel an opponent off teammates. While this sounds usefull it is no where near as good as other classes pull abilities and is best to switch it out for a utility which will see more usefull play. Making it pierce allows it to move through the useless targets allowing it to reach your original target.

The reason i suggest teleports is because like i said before terrain really screws with this ability, ive once pulled someone on a slope only to have him launched in the air verticly in front of me while humurous i was unable to respond properly and its even worse when all they do is trip.

Spectral Walk: In open beta this ability could only grant life force when struck in DS. Then they reversed it and allowed life force gain when struck outside of DS only as well as manual activation of its teleport. Can you guys reconsider giving us the ability to gain life force in ds… and a slightly longer uptime?

Spectral grasp: Make this ability peirce, teleport and stun the target to you instead of dragging them to avoid terrain issue. Sometimes when the pathing isnt right this ability only knocks down enemy players. Maybe even teleporting whatever it pierced through and its original target. Also consider some damage or boon strip on this ability…. using it in wvw is fun until you’re caught in a small battle and all you can do is hope to drag an opponent to u which helps for interupts but a little more is needed.

Was anything mentioned along the lines of our horrendously long kitten cool downs?

Yes they mentioned they want to increase our ability to use the conditions we have by speeding up the activation times, and I took it to mean that meant cast times or cooldowns.

He mentioned cast time on necro crowd control then proceeded to talk about minion ability activation times, which makes me think of bone fiend. Dagger 3 plus rigor mortis is an amazing root that is under utilized…. imagine doing this and having your team stack immob then epidemicing

I envision necros taking advantage of the healing in DS and well of blood + life transfer. As of right now you can get LT to heal you if you time it where the channel continues when your out of life force with the life siphoning trait, but having it heal you when you still have life force is going to be incredible if it works like that.

It sounds like they may be toying with the idea of a life siphon dot, and i also read that we are getting trait updates late june.

Just wanted to throw some guesses out there for what they may be working on for ds 5. He said they are playing around with 4 ideas or so

Condi transfer condition, pretty much transfers any condition you recieve maybe 1 per 3 seconds?

Boon Steal condition: Steals boons 1 every 5 seconds, 1every 10 seconds if condi is on more than 2 people (not likely)

Life siphon condition: Siphons life while dealing damage does more damage if target is feared

Passive condition: afflicted target cannot target you, condition cannot be spread (not likely lol)

Looking for Avid Necromancers

I was very active in Tpvp on release and for about 3 months untill my Tpvp team quit gw2, we were actually a very good unknown team ironically ran 2 necros on our team which ive suffered only 1 loss with. We even managed to beat super squad when they were on the rise although they played 4 eles 1 thief when ele’s were relatively a unknown class. The 2nd necro played an engi this round,

PoV is of our ele who actually popularized a couple ele builds and had a controversial thread claiming ele will be nerfed when everyone else thought they were garbage.

I’ve created many posts in the past introducing builds i’ve never seen posted at the time whether or not people use or know any of them to this day is a mystery to me, but most builds are still viable.
I’m constantly experimenting and theory crafting and still continue to map out builds and gear sets mainly for WvW
I’ve been focusing on pve and wvw and crafted my legendary frostfang.

I feel i have enough experience with Necromancer in all areas to be able to join your discussion if you are still looking for people

I had to put in my 2 cents here about axe. As a Axe MH user i would have to agree with what zzod said the interrupts are rediculous and its not even the knockdowns or dazes that are giving me the most trouble but rather positioning is axe #2 worst enemy. You truly have to commit to positioning yourself correctly to get the full channel time on this ability or run the risk of having a player move behind you or far enough to your side causing you to turn and interrupt your own ability, not only that but wh daze, doom, spectral grasp and golem charge are practically needed to make axe work. 1 dodge cancels out the whole ability as well, Ive had players dodge towards me to cancel my attack only to have my axe spinning in their face dealing no damage.

The biggest problem i have with golem is its charge, while awesome in group fights in 1v1 situations i believe the charge is way to far. A spectral walk effect with the charge would be awesome (Golem teleports back to where it started its charge at the end of its charge)

Keep in mind i rushed the video a bit and this isnt the epitome of my gameplay nor necromancer gameplay. The build is 30 spite 20 dm 20sr. The build is really focused on group control with fears and golem charges. Like i said the video was rushed so i didnt get to demonstrate this all that much except for 2 clips with quick reapers prot procs coupled with spectral walk. My next video will demonstrate this more and show how powerfull necro group cc is. I also occasionaly epidemic fears. Im not a terror build although it was my original plan, I enjoy axe better.

Right now I’ve been rolling conditions cause I feel like axe auto attack is pretty weak. I noticed you hardly even use the axe auto attack, but how strong do you feel the necro axe is right now? I would prefer to run with axe, but I just hate how low the auto attack damage is. I guess with just using it for the ghastly claws burst it would be ok, but even then it seems like you are hurting your dps compared to the dagger.

Completely agree with you here, for spvp i actually run dagger/wh axe/focus with no staff and cycle between all 3 of my channel abilitys and use dagger auto attacks as well

but for WvW I focus on group fights and with the amount of CC i feel there is no time for auto attacks with the axe and id rather have my damage come from bone minions and ghastly claws for quick burst and then back away and switch to staff for cc’s and condi removals. I ran condis 1st in WvW and felt that with all the boon stacking and condi cleanses going around i just wasnt getting the job done in terms of taking players out, i felt extremely weak to most burst classes that can get in kill something then get out. So i decided to make my own variation using axe bone minions and spectral grasp….

I didnt show this in the video since it was rushed but i was planning on getting footage of me spectral grasping players…usually of light or medium armor and using nothing but ghastly claws and bone minions to take them out. Its some of the best burst ive seen any necro do.

In spvp and tpvp axe auto attack suffers a little less since its less chaotic but i still feel its speed needs to be increased to around how it was in beta

Staff:
1. Why must i be close to my enemy to receive my regen effect frommark of blood when its a 1200 range weapon
2. Why is staff projectile a 20% chance of being a finisher?
3.Why is staff projectile slow in reaching its target? In a fast paced game people are moving around dipping and dodging, its hardly reliable in doing damage.
4. Spiteful marks: Why is it marks only? Our projectile could use some love.
5. Why isn’t greater marks default?

Axe:
1. Why isn’t unholy feast a blast finisher?

2. Rending claws was broken in beta because of its speed… this isnt beta anymore other classes have been buffed this needs to have its attack speed increased again, in its current form its pretty useless in pvp.

3. Why isn’t axe a 900 yd range? Or atleast make ghastly claws 900 yd it. It sucks being in position for a ghastly claw attack only to have your target run away and cancel out your whole attack…. I need to stay in 300yd range on a 600yd weapon to successfully channel the entire 600yd ability.

4. Retaliation: Its possible to keep retaliation up close to 100% of the time with retal in DS retal from unholy feast and retal on heal, but the point of axe is to stay away from my target as much as possible while dealing damage. Whats the point of my retaliation if im trying to keep away? Wouldent this be better on a Life steal dagger necro? I cripple my target with unholy feast to run away but i gain retal which benefits from me being beat on, doesnt make sense to me…we would be better off with a 1 second aoe fear on unholy feast. Or maybe an aoe boon removal as in feasting on boons

War Horn:
Locust Swarm: Grants swiftness, gain LF, cripples and deals damage when hitting players. One of my favorite ways of using this ability is jumping into death shroud and rushing into a group of players and using life transfer… the LF gain is nice if enough players are around, but this is primarily our escape move and Life force regen doesnt apply when running away from players.

Signet of the locust: Why does this signet seem much more effective in spvp than in wvw?

Why do i have 2 second casts on abilitys that should be instant?

Why does it take so long for shadow fiend and bone fiend to respond when activating their abilitys?

Why does bone fiends immobilize fail 99% of the time?

Why is bone and wurm minion spawn animation so horribly long?

Awesome ideas guys. Just wanted you to know we’re watching/listening to your ideas for things that fit GW2.

Keep in mind that we are trying to find a condition that can be used by multiple classes (doesn’t have to be all classes, but we like to keep the condies/boons low in the game so that it’s easy for players to learn) and something that has cool play for the caster, as well as the target.

So, with that in mind, keep the ideas flowing!

Do you guys already have idea’s in mind? Or are you looking only at the player base for ideas? Is there no way you can tell us what your ideas are? Since this condi seems to be in its planning stage and you are already looking towards the player base for inspiration maybe we can help critique what you guys have in mind before it goes live?

In the video im running 30/0/20/0/20, with a focus on quick burst with axe and bone minions as well as focusing on crowd control with 80% fear duration reapers protection and greater marks.

I used a mixture of knights/soldiers/berserker but am gearing towards knights/calv/berserker …

My original plan was to do a 0/30/20/0/20 build with necro runes and giver scepter dagger and giver staff but i got bored of condis quick and decided to make frostfang as well

I was entertained.

I’m curious about why you used Well of Blood as your heal, though. I find the cool down on it to be excessively long unless traited, but I noticed you didn’t have that trait. What was your trait build, and what stats are you running on your weapons/armor/trinkets?

Also, at 3:00, obstructed bug FTL. :/

Glad you enjoyed it! The reason i was using well of blood in a couple of those clips is because i was healing some seige and just forgot to switch it back. I normally use CC.

I rushed the video a little bit so i had less time to get footage where less bugs occur and less mistakes were made. I wish axe was longer range i have a habit of activating Ghastly Claws to early lol. I’ll post build soon
