After my second Arah run with members of my guild, I’m up to a grand total of 3 Arah tokens. This is from a combined 9 hours in that kittening dungeon.
Since the first run I have upgraded my gear to a mix of rares & exotics, w/ upgrades continuing towards full exotics. I have a nearly complete set of ‘survival’ jewelry to swap in for higher Armor & Vit on boss fights (looks at Lupicus). Didn’t make a kittening difference.
All of this said (& pages of potential frustrated ranting unsaid), I’m not here to suggest that Arah be retuned. Let the top tier, hardcore players have their dungeon! It’s just as important for them to enjoy the game as any of the rest of us, & this is probably the only spot left in the game that could really serve that purpose.
What I would propose, however, is that the token portion of the two Legendaries which require Arah, Bifrost & the spear, be moved to another dungeon. This would provide a more equitable difficulty between all of the Legendaries.
For comparison:
3 hours in CoF with guild group: 198 tokens.
Tokens/hour: 66.
Projected play time to complete 500 tokens: 7.58 hoursI ran story mode & all 3 CoF paths last weekend w/ my guild – so the same group of casual gamers could run CoF once a night, 5 times a week & have the 500 tokens needed in less than 2 weeks.
9 hours in Arah with guild group: 3 tokens
Tokens/hour: 1/3
Projected play time to complete 500 tokens: 1,500 hoursSo the actual calendar time to finish this portion would be kittening long. I can’t even dedicate enough time to do an Arah run except on Sundays, sometimes Saturdays; there is no way I can get through the 3-4 or more hours needed for our casual group on a weeknight (& that’s just to get to Lupicus & wipe a few times there before calling it, & hope oh HOPE to get a few bonus tokens before then – got ZERO for the 5 hour investment yesterday).
So… Bifrost is approximately 200 times better than any other Legendary (& note that’s just the play time, not calendar time)? o_0
I understand that Legendaries are not an ‘every player should have one’ item – but as it stands, I CAN earn every Legendary except Bifrost & that spear just continuing on w/ my guild. I doubt there’s a plan to move all of the tokens to Arah, so the alternative to provide an equitable difficulty would be to move the tokens for Bifrost & the spear to other dungeons.
(P.S. Yes we’ve read guides, yes we have people who’ve gotten past Lupicus before, & really how the KITTEN do people dodge every single thing as the answer to Lupicus; is there a hack being used to have an ever-full endurance bar or what?!)
Are you assuming that you’re never going to be able to complete any arah exp path? Because if so, that’s silly. They’re a little harder than the others but this is not some daunting task. Thousands of terrible players have completed some arah exp paths, you can too.
Try joining an arah exp group using gw2lfg.com instead, see how it goes. If they’re saying “EXPERIENCED PLAYERS ONLY” just ignore that one and join another one. Or start your own. After you complete a path (which you will), instruct your guildmates on what to do next time.
It really isn’t that big of a deal. If you want to just chip away at it, path 3 is the easiest. Hit up gw2lfg.com in the evening and knock that one out for 60 tokens a day. Path 3 groups form pretty regularly.
If you’re still working on getting full exotics, you obviously don’t have a lot of money. As such, you’ll have long long LONG since gotten these 500 tokens before you can think about completing a legendary.

This thread just gave like 500 people the idea to start trolling the timer, that otherwise wouldn’t have.
Good job.
If they were more powerful, people would complain about how they’re required to grind for infusions on top of grinding to get ascended.
They’ll add more powerful ones regardless.
For those that didn’t know what it meant for whatever reason, it certainly wouldn’t be a problem to clarify it further in game.
Hell just have on its own line instead of unique “Unique – Only one can be equipped”. It would fit.
It definitely says unique, shouldn’t really be any confusion.
As for WHY they’re unique so you have to take one with a defensive infusion slot and one with offensive, I’m not really sure. I do know they intend on ascended “progression” to take place in the infusion slot in the future, they’ve said they’ll be adding better ones. Probably some sort of weird balancing act against the scaling percentages in power offered by berserker gear at a theoretical level, just heading it off before there’s a possibility for it to be a problem in the future.
Just having them all go off at the same time on all servers would be sufficient.
Having them not on some sort of timers would be the same as removing them honestly. People wouldn’t bother anymore. You’d hang out the first time to see them if you were new, maybe do it a few more times, then wouldn’t bother again.
Then people would be back farming in dungeons which is even more boring (Least witht he dragons you get to goof around in map chat/say with all the people that showed up)
I don’t think this is very meaningful. If we’re talking about true solo here, which basically means running around outdoors doing DEs, that’s all such trivially easy content you might as well just play whatever seems fun.
It’s like talking about which rocket launcher is most effective for killing squirrels in your backyard.
If we’re talking “Which toon should I select to farm the most loot in the shortest amount of time outdoors at 80?” then I give Warrior the nod, where ranger pet tanking isn’t meaningful as you aren’t in danger just tanking the stuff yourself anyway.

Other than the fact that you’ll probably hit like a wet noodle if you’re loading up on tons of healing power as well as toughness/vit, there’s no denying that healing power is very effective for the profession.
Boon duration runes are quite nice in PVE as well, it’s not just a PVP thing.
Increasing the duration of your might may end up raising your damage more than picking more offensive minded runes in fact.
I want dual potato launchers
Will be welcome, but ultimately won’t really do anything meaningful for us.
I’ve honestly hated talent trees ever since they became a thing.
It seems like all they do is take away your options. You get to use a bunch of things while leveling then for some reason a system is in place penalizing you for continuing to do so.
All under the guise of “specializing” in things.
It’s not bad at all just getting ascended for a main, for one stat layout.
Getting it for more than one character is disasterous with all the time gates. Ditto if you actually want more than one stat setup even if just for a main.
You’re considering rolling a ranger? ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Wait, it’s not April 1… buahaahaha ahahaha
Seriously though, elementalist offers a multitude of builds, skills, and options for how you want to play. Eles also have a passive speed boast if you’re really into that. They are great healers, can make decent bunkers, good burst damage, and loads of options for AoE. The best thing you can do it roll one of each, head to the Heart of the Mists, and try them out. Yes, I’m aware that it isn’t the same as WvW, but it will give you a feel of each class and what it can offer.
This post made me laugh about April 1st too, when you said elementalist offers a multitude of builds.
1-5 for weapon 1-5
Q heal
E R T for utilities
G for elite
ZXCV for attune switch
WASD movement
Dodge roll with a mouse button.
If you have a mouse with lots of buttons, put the attunement swaps on there.
Blasting staff should be baseline, shouldn’t need to trait for it.
Earth 2: Decrease casting time by a full second.
Earth 4: Add 1 second of cripple.
Air 3: This has some issues with speed when it really shouldn’t.
Pipe dream: Replace something with a 900 range dash/RTL type skill.
I would be fine with it if the skills available to professions underwater was reasonably balanced. Right now it isn’t even close.
Some of the fractal weapons are kinda neat looking but this really isn’t even close.
This is the kind of thing where I think they’re starting to go overboard with how good they think ele bunkers are.
They’re good. But seriously, they aren’t THAT good. I’ve been playing one all this time and trust me, I know all about what d/d bunkers are and aren’t good at. This is going beyond nerfing something OP and now we’re in the territory of “Anything that works needs to be nerfed”.
It’s even worse considering how fragile everything is that’s holding together our one build. Eventually they’ll hit it with something we can’t recover from (All it would take to outright screw the entire profession would be for them to mess with the elemental attunement trait), and then it’ll be a year before anything worthwhile is added to make it worth using again.

I wish they’d just remove vapor form allowing you to go through doors, just so I wouldn’t have to hear people complain about it anymore.
It’s such a pointless non factor I’d be fine with giving it up. I think it’s saved my life maybe twice in months. There’s no reason to be dying next to the outside of a door as an elementalist unless you’re goofing around with repeated harassment attempts from inside with the actual intent on using it when you get downed. Since we could do without that kind of gameplay, just outright remove the ability to pass through doors with it.

If you’re feeling really saucy you can switch from 0/10/0/30/30 to 0/20/0/30/20.
Who said we don’t have variety!? =P
I don’t see how Arenanet is going to convince me to run around with 11k health and 1900 armor and 15 second cooldown on attunment swapping.
As far as I can tell I will be stuck with Water and Arcana until the next MMO comes out.
Just reducing the attunement cooldown from 15 to 12 base would do wonders for our build variety (still at 9 with 30 in arcane). Been suggesting it for months.
I also killed at least 4 mobs earlier today and NONE of them dropped exotics.
Why were exotics removed from loottables!? =P
Elementalists currently have a 15 second cooldown on returning to an attunement, down to 9 seconds with 30 in arcane trait line.
My suggestion: Reduce it to 12 seconds base. Still 9 seconds with 30 in arcane line.
I read through the State of the Game and saw that they want to open up elementalist builds so everyone isn’t running the same bunker spec. This would be a great first step.
Attunement swaps and the powers within are not balanced for 15 second attunement swap times, not even close. As such, you aren’t going to get people out of putting 20+ points in arcane without some sort of change like this.
Fortunately for eles, the traits within the arcana line are actually good and wanted anyway. If you start fiddling with the placement of useful traits(as was mentioned in State of the Game) to get people out of the arcane tree, but without addressing the attunement swap cooldown reduction, it’s going to make for a pretty awkward situation as people are still going to go into it just for the required cooldown reduction.
They should just have the charges completely removed.
Leave the cooldown as is. Maybe change numbers on a few things to account for the unlimited charges.
Some conj weapons could be unlimited charges, with no cooldown, just like engi kits, and people STILL wouldn’t bother using them. It’s silly
Eles and guardians need more base hps for this to make sense.
Which is better depends entirely on how good you are at making money (with whatever means you use to do so).
Asura should be giant human sized asuras in spvp. =P
I just outright find the controlling circles business to be an extremely boring thing to base a pvp match on.
There should be ONE map that has you doing this. Then the others have their own thing.
What kind of materials should one be able to salvage from an ascended item?
Salvaging ascended could have a chance at getting the various fractal mats like vials, globs, shards etc.
Maybe salvaging a non infused ring has a good chance at a vial, small chance of a glob.
Infused one would be good chance at a glob, small chance of a shard.
Wouldn’t really be anything special but it’d be something.
I don’t like town clothing because I have to roam around in town at non swiftness speed.
Should have perma swiftness when you’re wearing town clothes and in town.
Could end up being some sort of fun mounts added years in the future. Seems like it’s more of a “we don’t have plans to add mounts” type deal, which they don’t for now.
I doubt the riding clothes have anything to do with it though, it’s just an oufit.
I’m fine with the loot and what they’ve got set up. Not perfect but it’s alright for me.
Mainly have issue with the variety of gameplay and how you interact with the game. Seems like the game could use to have a few more skills accessible to the player at a time than they do.
Not having loads of hotbars with 50+ skills or anything, but more like…weapons with 7 abilities instead of 5.
The time frame they have going is fine for a main, pretty questionable for gearing alts though.
Ascended rings are in a good place for alts atm. Rest needs work.
Just RNG.
I run fractals with no MF regularly and I’ve gotten crap for drops and other times good drops.
I’d rather money be account wide in the inventory of all your characters.
Then have the bank be a way to set your money aside so you wouldn’t accidentally spend too much or something.
I get charged cores/lodestones from the jade maw chest (not the daily chest, the lootable one) on a pretty regular basis.
I see them linked by party members very often too. It isn’t just me.
I wouldn’t sweat the laurels too much. It seems to be more of a baseline way to get stuff if all else fails. I would figure we’ll see new ways to get various ascended gear over time.
There’s already alternate methods for the rings and accessories, I expect to see more of that. (probably more ways even for the rings and accessories too).
People with a bunch of legendaries play the TP.
I’m fine with trinity gameplay but I like that this game doesn’t have it for something different. I’ve pretty well worn trinity out in so many other MMOs.
It might not be quite as good as the GW1 setup, but just adding a town clothes section in the collectibles tab would be sufficient.
Staff ele would be fun as a secondary character just for the amount of combo fields available, but dealing with switching attunements is going to be pretty awkward trying to do with a mouse that you’re also using as your sole input for movement for the character. Then you get into having to place the combo fields on the screen too without having a second hand to steer the character with the keyboard.
Mesmer would probably be a good backup character with the least amount of inputs, just due to phantasms. Rifle warrior would be another good one.
In fact just controlling 2 mesmers cranking out clones and illusions would be really good. It’d be something where you could get away with moving the least in PVE due to AI dealing with all the incoming targets.
(edited by Minion of Vey.4398)
Be a guardian so you don’t have to mesmer portal everyone that screws things up.
New WvW ascended gear!
Ascended helm will cost 50 laurels, 250 ectos, and 1 badge of honor.
You can go for a spike on a mesmer, have them use 2, wait, reposition as need be, then start a spike again and get them successfully before you’ll even see 3 come into action.
It’s a good ability for a 3 if they get to actually use it but really, this is not a big problem.
Without even getting into the cost/influence and smaller guilds and all that.
The actual gameplay experience is pretty bad too on the bounties. Just having everyone spread out to different zones all running along the npc path to find him makes me wish 5 minutes in that it was just over already. “Can we start now? Almost ready yet?”
God forbid you’re one of the poor souls pegging down one of the npcs early, then you get to stand there for a half hour while everyone works on pegging theirs.
After you do the same event a 100 times, doing it for the 101st time without any real reason to is tiresome. The gameplay isn’t exactly riveting.
Like people saying “need more for grenth” twice an hour in orr, then yelling at people for not helping .
There’s really two reason to do things in an MMO. Fun, reward, or preferably fun and a reward.
If something gives neither, people don’t want to do it.
(edited by Minion of Vey.4398)
If people are in a situation where they really do want a particular group setup, they can ask people to ping their gear. It’s enough.
New weapon options for professions.
Considering adding more than 5 skills to a weapon (Not saying we should have big loaded hotbars, but 7 would be nice and add a lot to gameplay considering we use multiple weapons).
