The biggest challenge when playing the TP once you’ve got a good amount of money…is finding ways to invest all of it. If you can actually get it all in stuff you’re doing extremely well. 99% of the time that doesn’t happen.
It isn’t like the real world where investing twice as much money in something doesn’t take extra work.
Not something you hear alot, but that boss at the end of the centaur chain in gendarren I think. Most hilarious line in gaming.
“How does one fight…THE WIND!?”
I want to say that and then point one of those small personal fans at someone.
Would be nice just having some deathmatch style play in hotjoins.
Can go from there later.
No I don’t want conquest as the only mode.
Naturally, the act of pre inviting people to a group doesn’t make everyone automatically play better.
I’ve been playing online games pretty hardcore about as long as commercial ISPs have been publicly available.
Somehow I’ve managed all that time and never once been banned from a game for exploiting because I was well aware of what was and wasn’t acceptable.
Anyone else can do the same thing. It isn’t difficult and no one is fooled into thinking otherwise.
If you’re going to be absent so much that it actually matters, just let your guild leader know.
I would figure 99% of guilds in this game they’d just say “ok no problem”. If you’re in one where that’s a problem, it isn’t a guild you want to be in anyway.
I like revealing armor, because my character is pretty saucy.
I’d certainly like to get a 1200 range damage focused weapon.
Rather it not be a greatsword though. There’s enough hundred blades bros running around with them already.
I actually posted in the suggestions forum asking for this trait to be replaced a while back. It’s basically the same as having a trait that says “placeholder: coming soon”.
Earth elemental elite is actually quite good in PVE. It’s quite sturdy against trash (especially when it gets healing from you incidentally) and has high toughness which attracts mobs to it instead of players.
I use it a great deal in fractals and dungeons.
In spvp, I use the elemental also. The fire elemental deals respectable damage and will keep getting healed from you as well, keeping it in the fight. The water ele is also very solid if it gets one of those big heals off.
In WvW, use the fiery GS for the mobility it offers.
You can absolutely avoid the burning speed followup from updraft if you use a stunbreak, as any profession.
Wait until you settle, stunbreak, dodge. It’ll avoid burning speed every time. Depending on terrain, you can sometimes even stunbreak and simply walk right out of the way without dodging if they try to do burning speed ASAP instead of walking towards you some first. Risky of course. Dodging works every time though after the break.
People avoid it against me pretty regularly. I also avoid it regularly against eles. You can wait quite a long time before using the stunbreak and then still dodge the burning speed, so don’t worry about trying to get it off the instant you think you can (where you might mess up and use it too early). If you do it late, they’ll be sailing towards you right as you dodge and they probably will end up wasting their fire 4 or 5 too.
With practice, you can even lay there on the ground and wait to see if they’re going to do burning speed or not, then stun break and dodge on reaction if they do. Not that I necessarily recommend doing that since it’s easy to mess up, but it can be done.

If you solo queue, be the one that talks.
If you let everyone sit and say nothing….they’ll continue saying nothing.
Even if it’s just stuff like “3 inc henge”. When you do it, others often follow suit. Makes a huge difference. It isn’t going to get you the win against a good premade but it’ll be the difference between winning and losing in pug vs pug.
It isnt’ going to stay at 3g per 100 gems. Let it settle down after the dust clears from all those dye and pick purchases.
What’s the estimated ROI on those quaggan backpacks?
Adding a new metal and not allowing the pick to work on it would kitten such a comical amount of people off (which they know) that I don’t see them doing that.
It’s not like they’re setting out to intentionally make people angry.
I played a necro for a while then switched to ele since I was getting bored.
Have several spvp chars I rotate through just depending on what I feel like playing.
Why did you pick a necro first?
Just from gameplay, not imagery. I fiddled around with the professions in beta and never really did settle on one, since I liked many of them short term. I think the last one I tried was the necro and I liked setting all the marks around during DEs.
I played it through to 80 and did stuff on it for about a month before getting bored hitting the same buttons. Main reason I switched to elementalist at the time was because I figured I wouldn’t get bored with combat as much with having access to more buttons in attunements. Which fortunately has been true, since I still play the ele.
That’s for the normal PVE/WvW character though. For spvp I play ele, necro, mesmer, thief.
I think people are overestimating how difficult it is to compete in tpvp.
Yes if you’re in a pug against a decent premade you’ll lose. This doesn’t happen every time. There’s plenty of other ordinary people entering solo too, you’ll play against them plenty. I know because I play against them all the time and I only solo queue, winning about as much as I lose.
Just having the keep be required to take some reasonable damage (i.e, not one person running up and farting on the gate for 43 damage) to contest it would fix all this.
And no, you aren’t going to stop someone from hitting the gate once. Well I suppose you could if you wanted to set up this big dedicated squad all day making sure no one comes anywhere near it, but that’s worse than not having the waypoint.

…someone in my guild has 117 losses and 0 wins… how is this even possible?
He must have spent quite a few evenings trolling tournaments by joining and just tabbing out.
If it has a max range, it must be a pretty big one.
I’ve had times where I got downed on a point, then the enemy got chased away well out of view with me rallying from their death 15 seconds later.
Rift makes the game tab blink when you get attacked, get a queue pop, etc when minimized. ANet should do something similar
That would be a pretty awesome toggle to have. Normally I queue up then I’m tabbing back twice a minute making sure I’m not missing anything. Would be great to have the game do it for me.
I’d like to know this too.
It’s only happened once for me, but it was recently so i recall the situation very well.
We were blue with 2 points, red with 1.
Score is ticking up and quick math makes it clear we’re both going to hit 500 at the same time.
So score’s ticking up and sure enough it gets right to where blue has 498 (2 points held) red with 499 (1 point held).
Then the tick happens, red goes to 500, blue goes to…499. I was guarding one of the points and no one was attacking me so I had basically just been staring at the score the last 5 seconds, didn’t miss anything. No points flipped, blue definitely still held 2 points as the last tick happened, no kills occurred etc.
I was kinda kitten at the time so I didn’t think to start adding up team scores in time though.
Are strong ele players consistently beating HGH engineers in 1 on 1s? That’s a pretty ugly fight for eles atm. Is for me anyway.
Elemental attunement is so critical to the profession it should just be baseline.
Moving ele attunement to a 20 point arcane trait completely ensures that all eles go 20+ in arcane.
With the nature of gw2 I don’t really see what raising the level cap would do other than make you regear.
I got the pick before even knowing it had an animation, liked the idea of not having to bother with restocking picks.
The lava burst when you use it on ores is really cool.
Elementalist.
15 char
It’s not something that’s super important right now, but maybe after they do their marketing push this summer anet could work on something like this, maybe just a “help me” button and a “help others” button that puts players in a networking queue, then after a player helps like 100 new players successfully (post experience “did you figure it out” yes or no button) they are rewarded with a new flashy gear skin (RNG so that they keep doing it attempting to get full set maybe? or just scaling rewards -skins at 100, titles and cooler skins at 500, legendary wep skins at 1,000? -something like that).
Either way, throw in legendary skins after helping like 5k people or so and you’ll see everyone just spam helping in the mists as they wait for queues to pop. -it would have to be cross server though, or else it would get super abused (2 kids sitting in empty mists on rando server just spamming help button on each other)
What you’re suggesting is introducing a help grind. The fact that this would completely fit in with the rest of the game is hilarious to me.
When you win a tournament, you get 200 rank and 200 glory.
While you do get the 200 rank, it doesn’t count towards your title achievements track (gladiator, marauder etc).
As such, you can reach rank 20, 30 etc and not be anywhere near getting a rank 20 or 30 title due to the 200 rank you get from winning tournaments not applying to the achievement.
Legendary armor.
Some people have jobs that require typing with proper grammar and it’s probably second nature to type a period at the end of each sentence.
This is how I’ve always typed too. I type faster just typing properly with proper punctuation most of the time.
I don’t really care whether people do or don’t, as long as I can read what they’re saying. The idea of it actually being ARROGANT to use proper punctuation is pretty funny though.
They could also make traits actually useful, like rangers they have 1 trait that gives them 1 might for 5s after activating a signet. or engi have a trait that makes thrown elixir do damage (196 dmg crits) and I’m sure there are lots and lots of useless traits such as these.
This is a big one to me. Every profession has 10+ traits that are just complete crap. Usually way more than 10.
This definitely needs to be loosened up, I have this problem too.
“inc 2 temple” “inc 2 temple” SUPRESSED =P
I’d be fine with some sort of penalty being added, but honestly 99% of the time when someone leaves it’s against a good premade when our pug is down 150 points and clearly not going to have any success.
I’d rather just wrap it up and move on at that point anyway.
Occasions where people drop really early (i.e they’re afk or just didn’t feel like playing) have been very rare to me.
Best thing to do in this game when having a problem with a profession is to make one yourself. Since we don’t need to go out of our way to level and gear a new character, it’s no problem to get the level 2 alt of your choice to the mists and try stuff out in hotjoins or something.
Not that you need to master the profession, but just have a grip on the mechanics from their point of view. It’ll help a lot with knowing what to expect when after you’re used to cooldowns etc.
To me the main thing spvp needs really has nothing to do with class balance.
They just need to add more variety in the maps. They actually have a reasonable amount of maps, it’s just that the main difference between them is just the color of the stairs or ramps you walk up in order to go stand in a circle.
Having one with a treb, another with buffs, another with an orb…that’s not enough.
Elementalists don’t have retaliation.
Are you fighting on a point and hitting others nearby that do have retaliation while aiming at the ele or something?
The amount of entertainment that I gain by visiting this forum..it’s unparalleled, between a laugh and and another, I can keep my sanity in check while writing this 10000 words report….what I can say..ty lol.
It’s pretty baffling.
I’m not even someone that plays spvp a ton, though I’m starting to play more lately.
Yet it seems I can’t make it through reading someone’s post without finding a glaring inaccuracy in what they comment on about a profession (ANY profession). Not things that are a matter of opinion either.
I don’t get why you want this.
If you don’t want to play hotjoins, which you seem to not want to do…and you don’t want to play in a premade team, since you talk about wanting to just jump in for 30 minutes…how would removing the solo tpvp queue help you?
Seems like you should instead be arguing “please split the solo and team tpvp queue”. Which is a popular sentiment.
Why is it this lesson has to be relearned every game?
This is like the 6th game in a row where I’ve come in and solo vs premade is a problem.
At what point in the MMO industry will this be baseline to design, rather than require a years worth of requests, where by the time it’s put in everyone has long since left already?
I suppose it’s too late for something like this, but I wonder how much it would have helped if achievements for tournaments were “tournaments played” rather than “tournaments won”
i.e instead of winning 150 tournaments for champ x title, play 300, or 400, or whatever.
I think having esport potential is pretty important, even for ordinary spvpers that just play whatever.
It gives pvp more longevity. You want more people in there trying stuff, trying to get to the top etc. Even if you aren’t one of them, its more people to play against.
How bout adding account wide titles for WvW ranks, like sPvP rank titles?
Even if the actual rank remains character only for WvW.
This was/is actually something that kept me from making a serious go as an engineer as a main.
Make a group and say “any profession welcome”. All the people that couldn’t join those groups will join yours.
I do it all the time.
What’s the cheapest karma drink that works with this?
I’m always at nearly 1 mill karma and constantly looking for ways to just get rid of it.
Buy every single ore on the trading post and just vend them. Repeat.
Just to see what happens.
