I think everyone knows the concept of house odds, it’s just that the odds are comically skewed in this case…making it not even worth bothering playing for fun.
The world’s crappiest slot machine has a better payoff rate than what is going on here, which is what people are angry about.
It would make all non max statted crafted items left to rot at max level. It sounds fun at first but it would just end up frustrating both the crafters AND the buyers.
It wouldn’t take long for it to change from “Sweet! got something good!” to “This item isn’t perfect (tossed in trash)”. You’d have trouble even finding someone to sell the stuff to.
This happened early on in EQ2 actually. The perfect max item quickly became the norm, with anything that wasn’t it discarded.
I don’t know what SWTOR does with it now, but at the time I played something similar was also in play with crafting “crits” adding sockets allowing you to give them additional stats. Of course the world was flooded with millions of “failed” crafts (i.e normal ones that didn’t crit) and the ones with sockets were nothing special, just the normal thing everyone used. In the end all it meant was instead of crafting something and using it you had to pointlessly make it 10 times instead.

I don’t have friends. I play alone and when I dominate with a gear or level advantage in game I pretend the pokemon on my desk are my friends and have them compliment me on how awesome I am. THANKS PIKACHU YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND YES THAT WAS A GREAT KILL
Funny thing is I’m usually the one that plays hard and plays often, getting the gear advantage over everyone else.
Yet I enjoy not having to bother doing so in this game. I even have made more than 1 max level toon already (which has been very uncommon for me to do in other games).
Outside of dungeons, the game absolutely supports this style of play well through at least the mid levels.
You just can’t let yourself be overwhelmed. If you try to fight 5+ things at once without some sort of plan you’ll eat the dirt sometimes. Mobs actually leash pretty quickly in this game, simply running in the opposite direction while dodge rolling occasionally is an extremely viable way to stay alive against anything outdoors as long as the stuff doesn’t out level you or something.
As such, dying usually means you legitimately screwed up by entering a bad situation and staying around too long.
As for not picking up the random death here and there during events with lots of mobs, don’t be the guy that gets everythings attention as they’re approaching. If you’re doing one of those “defend the ring against invaders” type events that means not jumping in front and firing off some big AOE that gets 9 mobs on you unless you have a specific plan to kite them.
Often times you have npc help in those events so even if you have little/no other players around, let them be the ones that take the initial volley from everything incoming.
Beyond that, there’s just little reason to die on the overworld map. I don’t play some sort of permadeath style but I can say on my second trip to 80 I only died maybe 5 times or so outside of pvp. Believe me, it wasn’t through some incredible feat of skill that I didn’t die much, just a general understanding of when to run away and how to deal with large groups of mobs in events. All of my deaths by the way, could have been avoided if I was playing permadeath and was really intentional about staying alive.
The easiest advice again, is simply to run in the other direction. 99% of mobs simply don’t have an answer to this (some high level mobs can immobilize/pull you, but honestly even then you can just eat it and then continue running even if you don’t have some condition removal of some sort loaded). So then you’re just left with knowing when it’s time to run, if you start running at 10% with your heal on cooldown, that’s probably not going to cut it. There’s no reason to get one shot by multiple mobs in events because there’s no real reason to ever be in a position in an event where that many mobs can hit you all at once.

I have some issues with some of the grinds in place but I am REALLY liking the stat parity at max level, far more than I thought I would.
For once I actually have interest in playing max level alts.
I’m going to have a tough time losing that whenever I play some other MMO.
I’m still having trouble picking a class as well. I think my problem is that I have gotten used to playing games with 30hotkeys, macros, stance dancing. I find the amount of skills boring in gw2. Thats the only flaw that I cannot seem to get past. It seems to make the professions less complex then previous games. Sad because this game has so much going for it and my only problem is with the tool I’d be using to play.
Try an elementalist.

You come pretty close to steamrolling low level areas as is in optimized lev 80 exotics.
If you have a good amount of toughness, you’re just not going to be in any danger before orr unless you really went out of your way in a lev 60 zone to fight a bunch of things at once and facetank them all. I completed world exploration on a character recently and certainly was never in any hint of danger as I traversed all the mid level zones I didn’t finish up. When I say no hint of danger, I mean “i’ll facetank a veteran and spam 1, he’ll die long before I do”
and that was on a light armor necro. Believe me the extra hps were not needed, an elementalist could do it too.

Believe it or not warriors fit the bill for you. They have strong single target ranged dps (the rifle can really hurt) and there’s all kinds of neat heavy armor looks.
and no trench coats I don’t think.
I’d just like to have a larger variety of fun skins at all levels of effort really.
Items that just require “some” effort to get don’t have to intentionally be scaled back in graphical design either. Stuff that people want to use for skins should be available regardless.
I have to agree.
It’s funny complaining about something being OP in a silly thing like costume brawl, but the mad king outfit is so excessively so it feels pretty fruitless going and playing with any large group of people.
Coming in act 2: Combine non greatsword skins to make one of 25 new halloween themed greatsword skins!
Can blame it on the players too.
Any time people talk about the weapon skin prices they just say “They cost like 50g on the TP!”…which is the greatsword skin
Then there’s all the non greatsword skins which are much cheaper mostly but why would someone want to do something crazy such as equip a non greatsword weapon apparently
The movement speed is a big one for me for not wearing costumes, it’s unfortunate.
I want to get around, everyone does. Even in town. While wearing the costume though, I can’t use all my different swiftness stuff.
Should give perma swiftness imo (while in town only, so people don’t feel compelled to do some sort of costume dance out in wvwvw or something)
Well, they’re right there on the TP now.
When you make a character of course you get the starting town clothes.
Is it possible to replace these if lost? I’m wearing one of the halloween costumes but would like to keep the town clothes. Rather than have them take up bank space was wondering if there was a way to easily replace them, so I could just trash them for now.
This is parallel to the work kids put in to get their halloween costumes IRL.
As we all know, kids start by going out uncostumed on halloween getting candy. Then they set the candy aside and begin working full time in the coal mines for the next 6 months. After they’ve raised enough money they purchase many different kinds of costly fabrics, go to tradeschool to learn how to sew them together and then finally in August of the following year use the fabrics, put the candy into the sewing machine to power it and they have made a costume!
The costumes are fun and not too expensive. If you want one, go for it.
They’re not going to disappear when the event is over. It even sounds like costume brawl (which I figured would end when the event is over) will still be possible.
I got the witch costume. Haven’t checked out the other yet
Have seen so many people that have spent ridiculous amounts of gems on keys and gotten nothing.
Just a PSA, they’re buyable from players. They are expensive, yes. Unless you’re absurdly lucky though, it’s going to be a whoooole lot cheaper to get them that way.
Some aren’t even expensive yet.
If you don’t have the on hand coin, even buying gold with gems and buying the item with the gold is going to be cheaper in RL dollars.
Anticipating a whole lot more freaking out about opening chests and people not getting what they wanted, kills me seeing people say “I spent $50 on keys and got nothing!” etc.
the chainsaw is hilarious
If they have some last minute tweaks they want to make, it’s not a huge deal if I have to wait a few more hours…even if it technically drags past midnight in whatever timezone.
It’s worth the move. You should be able to go there, just wait until the right time of day, it fluctuates.
Course it only has to work once, and then you’re in forever
It even says “projected profit” or something when you’re about to post the item, doesn’t it?
sigh
Not only do you not have to return what you bought, you can’t.
I’d spend 5g on it.
I spend more on things that don’t even give a stat advantage, heh.
I don’t really get it to begin with.
I mean it’s not some super awesome armor it’s just another skin…except this one has the price hiked way up for no real reason. Nothing really prestigious about it.
It’d be like if one of the unique mid level karma appearance items just had its price raised pointlessly to 750k karma.
How do you know it hasn’t been used yet in gw2?
Maybe there’s some fixes in the update too
Tarnished Coast is the unofficial RP server.
I thought this was about all the pants in game with the glove icon.
Funny there’s an actual equip bug for it too
You went to a dungeon for the first time and died alot? Is that bad?
I spoke to the president of halloween and he said soon
The previous change where they added the rare chance to get permanent bankers etc from the chest applied to old chests, don’t see why this would be any different.
Besides, it’s a chance for them to in theory remove some existing chests from the market. Also they want people to immediately have plenty of access to chests so they buy keys to open them. There’s no payoff to them having it only apply to new chests/making special halloween chests etc.
As for 100% hard info though where they definitely say it is the case, they have not given that information.
As with all things on the trading post, no strategy with any particular item is ALWAYS profitable, but depends on what everything is selling for at the time.
This is no different than buying lots of bags with the intent of opening them all and selling the contents for a profit. Sometimes the bag prices dip low enough while the contents inside the bags happen to be up a little when you sell them, making it profitable etc.
Use spidy to draw your attention to items, not to make the decision for you.
Used for that purpose, it works very well.
What a weird item to have a trading run on.
Probably started by an associated group of players that agreed to buy out the initial supply I suppose.
What the game needs is more ITEM sinks too.
More forge recipes that make neat stuff that take 250 cinnamon, 250 chests, etc etc etc. Not temporary ones either.
If you bought some and they’ve lost value since then, there’ll probably be another run on the chests right before/right after the update hits. How much that’ll be, who knows. Would be strange if there wasn’t though.
Personally I just bought a reasonable amount. Enough to where if they skyrocket I’ll make some money, few enough if they tank I’m not gonna sweat it.
Probably best way to go about it.

I honestly think the 10 point arcane trait elemental attunement should be baseline for elementalists.
Until it isn’t, we only get 60 trait points. This is no choice at all. Any build that doesn’t have 10 in arcane is kitten vs one that does, regardless of whether the person pves, spvps, wvws, supports, dpses etc.
The trait shouldn’t be nerfed, it’s required. It should be baseline.

I’m fine with eles getting some sort of new weapon whenever, I hope it isn’t the greatsword though.
2 out of 3 dorks running around out there in WvWvW are toting a greatsword (on the other classes, of course) and I don’t need to see even more of them.
Considering how fast some of these burst builds out there can drop people, the game kinda needs downed.
I was iffy on downed state at first but it has grown on me.
I’d like for them to reconsider how badges are collected personally. Something where you just get badges for being involved with things on a regular basis. Then raise the price on some things accordingly. It’d still take a while to buy the good stuff but at least it’d be consistent.
You should get a badge for completing an event at least.
generic word filter
I miss when while playing world vs world, when a bunch of players were coming, I saw a bunch of players. Sometimes I’d run away, maybe I’d reposition, those were good times.
Now I see 2 people or so, maybe attack someone, then of course I die instantly because there were 25 other invisible players with them.
Ditto any attack on a keep or something. If the enemy shows up to defend, well sometimes we have enough people we might have even been able to fight them off. Of course that’s not possible now. 15 of your friends just drop and your first sign the enemy is even there is all the corpses.
Makes WvWvW garbage.
I agree that they just need to allow us to gain the stats present on weapons mainly (and sigils)
That’s a big one, since we just outright have less stats than other classes while using a kit…encouraging us to stay in rifle or something which is silly.
I call into question the damage on kits too though, maybe they SHOULD use the weapons damage too…not just giving us stats. But whatever they want to balance it around I suppose. The stats/sigils seem like a given though, that needs to be fixed.
When an engineer equips a kit, it’s as though they have no weapon equipped…so they lose a substantial amount of stats vs what they should have.
The weapon stats don’t appear to help them at all, which is pretty serious since kits have no “stats”. Significant stat loss vs other classes because of this bug.
For the same reason, they can’t use any sigils with kits either.

Been playing since release with no TP problems (other than universal ones related to TP being down of course)
But now I’m having a problem with drop down menus. When I make a selection, they don’t disappear. The selection is made but when it moves to the next screen all the options and the drop down menu persists on the screen.
Sometimes it blocks me from continuing. If it doesn’t, i’ll have more menus/lines on the screen. Makes TP unusable.
Any fix to this?

Not only that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if general supply of wood is still down from the harvesting end. Log prices were going so low I wasn’t even bothering to harvest the low level trees anymore, doubt I was alone on that one.
