All professions have access to heavy and light armour – they’re called Soldier’s and Berserker’s.

Can you elaborate on what you mean?

Soldier’s stats give you power, toughness, and vitality. This increases your survivability to greater than that of a heavy armour profession.
Berserker’s stats give you power, precision, and critical damage. This doesn’t benefit your survivability at all, leaving you as squishy as if you were wearing light armour.

I’m a little bit concerned that you don’t know this already. Maybe you should spend more time getting to know the game before you make suggestions for such huge changes.

I dislike having to press shift to draw on the map. Ideally I could just left-click to draw, and right-click to drag the map around. However, if I MUST hold down another button to do it (why??), please let me choose it. I use my left shift for other stuff.

Regarding the professions from GW1, I think they keep the names, if there is no major change compared to GW1 (e.g. Warrior or Elementalist), but change the name, if they have to adjust characteristic features (e.g. Thief).

If you’ve taken your entire borderlands but can’t stop the enemy re-capping ONE tower, maybe you could just shore up your defenses and move to another map to steamroll everything there? Once you’ve done that on every map, THEN you can complain about your enemies having a ridiculous advantage over you… owait.
Even the winning servers can have dead hours sometimes, and you want to deny the handful of people online the opportunity to take a tower and rally some morale?

But you can. All the spawns have a WP with a retrainer to swap skills.

Yes. Yes you did.
In PvE you can waypoint to the trainer, retrait, then waypoint back to the fight.
In WvW you have to WALK back to the fight after you retrait. Besides, players aren’t going to wait around for you to come try again after they wipe you once…

Slowing down large groups

You think FIFTY is an acceptable size for a zerg? What server are you on where larger groups are a frequent problem??
Anyway, I agree that there’s way too much incentive to group up; running with a zerg is easily the fastest way to get kills and events. That’s not a tactical problem though – 50 people moving as one group will achieve less than 5 groups of 10 (assuming each group has a slightly intelligent leader). If you can’t match their numbers on the map, it’s time for you to start yelling in guild chat for more people to come to WvW.
So yeah, reduce rewards for groups of more than 5; remember that in PvE, when more players show up, the event difficulty scales up and makes it harder.

Electric field + blast finishers can give a whole team 60 seconds of swiftness easy. Once that’s in place, the moving group maintains the group swiftness through abilities (such as Guardian’s staff skill, or Runes of the Centaurs + Healing skill). Maintaining perma-swift on a large group is very accessible.

Sounds like there are a couple of things you didn’t realise:
1. applying boons is affected by the AoE limit of 5, so no, the whole group doesn’t get that swiftness
2. Symbol of Swiftness only applies swiftness to you if you don’t already have swiftness, so it does nothing if you just stacked 60s of it
3. Rune of the Centaur has an internal cooldown

EU’s #1 vs NA’s #5? Doesn’t sound especially balanced to me! xD Most of us on DB have no illusions that we’re tier 1 material, but we also have a healthy respect for what our Asians do for us. It’s not accurate to say that we have poor NA coverage though.

Commander Mastery

On a server like mine there’s usually one commander on any map at one time…which if all players on the map only see that one guy where do you think they’ll all be likely to go…
yeah, you got it.

Having squadmembers receive benefits promotes them to be in the squad, having a max amount of players in the squad means you can’t have just one big zergball rolling around the map like what can happen in my tier. Of course you can have multiple commanders rolling around in a pack providing buffs, yet at the same time I don’t see how this would promote zerging any more than the game currently does. We’ll see what happens with the changes Anet will eventually reveal and possibly by then we’ll have better idea of what to do with commanders, but for the time being all we can do is what commanders should and should not be able to do and reasons why some things will work for some servers and not others and where to draw the line for balance. That’s why we’re here!

If the buffs are only 1200 range, that removes an incentive for people to split off from the group and do their own thing. “Shall we go cap the camp while the zerg takes the tower?” “Nah, we won’t get max rewards for the event koz the commander will be out of range…”
As the game currently stands, people who don’t want to blindly follow the zerg CAN go off in smaller groups, although there’s not much reward for doing so because the zerg can complete more events and kill more players. We need a reason to split off without feeling like we’re being penalized for not following the zerg. Your suggested updates will make it even less eligible to work in a small group.
However, if you removed the 1200 range thing (why shouldn’t it be map-wide?) and made it possible for commanders to see the locations of all squad members and kick them if they’re not doing what they’re supposed to… then you’ve got a good idea.

600 / 30 = 16. How is recycling 16 items/day “a lot” ? There are tons of way to make items. Doing your daily achievements will surely drop you the items you need.

The Daily Recycler, which doesn’t pop up most days, only requires you to salvage 10 items. If 10 every few days is worthy of an achievement point, by that logic 16 EVERY day is a lot.
I get my salvaging done within a couple of weeks, and I never finish the monthly JPs, but without making any sort of effort, all the other achievements are done about twice as soon, so there’s clearly some imbalance there.

The only reason I can tolerate the sight of the Quaggan backpack is because I think to myself, that to make that backpack a baby Quaggan had to be skinned and emptied out to make it. That thought usually makes me happy

People are getting a little carried away with GW1 comparisons – remember a couple of things:
1. EVERYTHING in GW1 was instanced, and you could only change your build in town.
2. GW2 hasn’t actually carried over any of the functionality from GW1 at all – anything they have in common is either cosmetic or simply a common feature of RPGs.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved GW1 and wish this game was a not more like it, but ANet obviously don’t care about any of the old features we enjoyed.

Anyway, I do agree that it’s extremely irritating to have to walk to a trainer, pay silver, and then manually reset all of my trait points every single time. It discourages players from trying out a different build, not least because if they don’t like the new one, they have to waste time and money going back to the old one.
There’s nothing fun about the current process of setting up a build when you already know exactly what you want. It’s extremely tedious, so please streamline it to allow us to hurry up and actually play the game!

Start beating on a MOB in PvE. they start to lose. they back off and do a trait swap for better protection. they then return to combat and kick the MOB to there and back.

That’s how PvE is supposed to work… you go into a fight not knowing what to expect, and whatever the outcome, next time you’ll be better prepared. Sometimes “next time” is in the same instance because the mobs wiped you, but you think players should just keep beating their heads against the wall because they foolishly brought a build that doesn’t work in a particular fight?
We already have the possibility to change our major traits and optional skills, swap weapons, or even go back to town, re-train and waypoint back to the fight. This suggestion would just make it more convenient to do that last part, and you think it’s a bad idea because it would be unfair to the enemy mobs?

WXP/influence incentives for guilds to defend the objectives they claim would be fantastic, but why not also allow multiple guilds to claim the same objective? Make it so you can spend influence to buy an upgrade (screw paying cash for that), and every guild that buys an upgrade can put their flag up, giving them an opportunity to earn that influence back if they can hold the point for enough ticks!

It should be one badge per player kill, and nothing else.

A server can dominate and win a matchup without ever killing a single player. You can also spend hours at a time defending a keep and because you’re doing so, you never kill other players. You’re making the mistake of thinking WvW is soley PvP, it has elements of PvE and PvD too.

I’m not saying there’s a problem with PvD – it’s smart to grab objectives when they’re undefended. I’m just saying it shouldn’t reward badges.
Defending a keep for hours without killing anyone? I don’t think that’s happened to me ever… Maybe it’s different for guardians?

Retal 'Solution'

I main engineer and I obviously get hit with a LOT of retaliation whenever I use grenades or flamethrower, which is pretty much all the time. I don’t wear PVT gear, but I do have a neat trick to counter the damage from retal: stop attacking for a moment and heal. My number 6 skill is really good for this.
Coming from someone who suffers more than most: please DON’T nerf retaliation.

At first it seems sensible to not give WvW rewards for PvE tasks (including map completion), but even without that we have a really messed up system of rewarding badges. Why do claimer NPCs reward badges, and why is it possible to get TWO badges instead of one sometimes?
It should be one badge per player kill, and nothing else. JPs and mapping belong in PvE.

Although I don’t agree that the loot system is utterly broken (wouldn’t mind the loot dropping at my feet like it does in WvW though…), I hate that Orr is good for pretty much nothing except farming ori nodes.
