Buncha snipped hooey

Here’s the thing, though: the Warrior’s rifle sucks. Hard.

Really ? http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/v/12075076?t=31m02s

Thats on the berserker. How about the non-berserker warrior? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying rifle sucks, its just you don’t see it played much.

It’s cause of the mesmer clones, if you tag a clone, and it dies, you rally, if you tag it and he shatters it, you rally. Needs to be fixed asap, sent a /bug already, hopefully it gets fixed within the hour.

not how its supposed to be though, of course. Since it hasnt been like that before now.

ok, since the patch, in pvp, people are reviving REALLY fast! As in over and over during mid stomp, sometimes with no help around at all from their allies, no one reviving them, nothing

Just noticed it in two matches so far, but others did too, and we started talking about it. I play mesmer. both times it was thieves. Also an ally, also a thief, said he revived once or twice without knowing why. It seems either they are reviving off my clones, or its a thief thing, or…. something else?

Not sure if its just pvp, if its class based, or something else. Trying to figure it out, but I wanted to call it out and see if anyone else had noticed it.

Or maybe i’m just imagining things?

Morfedel.4165

First, we cannot one-shoot people (at least not anymore). You have to practice the burst rotation on a golem, to make it fast and efficient. When you see in ESL, the combo is so fast that you almost don’t see the mesmer doing anything but the health of the enemy dropped.
The current “best build” involves PU, so survivability is about going back to stealth to prepare a next burst. But obviously, you cannot do high damage AND high survivability (you’re not an elementalist ), so dying is part of the experience, especially in the beginning.

I guess thats the point. I suppose I see the potential already as i three shotted a few targets (pBerserker, Mirror Blade, and mind stab finished them pretty quick), and i’m wondering if going pBerskerer→Mirror Blade→Signet of the Ether→pBerserker may get the same results, all from under stealth.

I’m just not used to that fast of a burst, always having played with at least some defensive stats, so adjusting my mind set here; I’m just not sure what they typical burst rotation is.

You know, the thief having a staff doesnt mean its a melee weapon: the staff is generally a ranged weapon in gw2.

On the other hand, the revenant uses the hammer as a ranged weapon, so what do I know, especially with a name like Daredevil :P

Chronmancer Tempo Mage Build

in Mesmer

Posted by: Morfedel.4165

Morfedel.4165

There is a concept in chess called Tempo. What it means, for those of you who don’t play chess, is once you get the initative you keep it by keeping the opponent on the defensive.

I was eyeballing the chronomancer, and of course the various shatter and other builds have been obvious. With the shield we now also have another stun for stunlock (clockdown as someone called it? LOL )

anyway, I started looking at combining CC, slow, and quickness to create a kind of tempo mage, grabbing and keeping the iniative by keeping the foe slowed, you quickened, and stacking it with interrupts and effects as well.

I have played around with different versious using the skill builders, as there are various means of getting quickness and distributing slow, but I think this may be the best version.

Obviously, since the chronomancer is still in beta, critical components may end up changing and invalidating it, but I thought I’d post the build here.

The idea here is to keep the foe… managed, I think is the best way to put it. Once you get the foe under 75% health, you will start getting fury up all the time, minus boon stripping, and stacking slow up fast with crit hits as well as the other control effects.

Plus a few AoE effects to bolster your group as well, both with AoE CCs and well of action and timewarp.

The heal skill can be anything.

So, I don't play power mesmers

in Mesmer

Posted by: Morfedel.4165

Morfedel.4165

I usually play condi, or sustained balance, or something. I’ve known all the arguments, but it just hasn’t been my style.

But one day a mesmer did a great deal of damage with a power shatter against me, and recently I was playing some pvp and using either a zerker or assassin set, which I don’t normally do, and watched just using my pZerker and one use of Mirror Blade drop a ranger and a thief during a match drop them down to a fraction of their health made me think I should get past my prejudice against such builds and try it out.

My problem is that I’m only an adequate dodger, so my survivability has been lackluster; plus having a thief in one match one shotting me with over 16k backstabs from stealth wasn’t fun either.

However, I’ve been reading here of people talking about stealthed mesmers bursting people down almost instantly, not quite one shotting, but within a couple seconds, various targets.

It really hasn’t been my style to play that kind, but reading all this combined with these recent experiences makes me want to try it out. So, I was wondering if someone could share with me both the build and the tactics revolving using the build in pvp and wvw.

Gonna try it out and see if I can make myself like it

Thanks A-Net. One well paying customer lost.

I just love people who decide to leave for just one stupid thing. Yeah, one new class, 9 elite specs, new content, new mobs, new maps, supposed difficult content, and yer leaving because of a staff. I suppose it’s not as bad as the guy who announced he was leaving because of one skill, or the guy I heard about leaving WoW because of a word, calling raids raids, but you know….

So, distracting? Some kind of shadow magic, or wushin staff fighting? I’m guessing the former, due to the comment of distractions.

I main Ele.

An easy conceptual idea for Eles are the Benders from Avatar.

Earth Benders summon rocks and hurl them at opponents.

But instead of the cool as kitten skills we see on the Berserker that thematically might fit on Ele, we got Tempest. Warrior gets new utility skill type, Ele gets shouts.

I’m not kitten, as I realize that the creative juices might be lacking at times. But balance and concept seem to be moving ever further away from logic or consistency, and the various development and balance teams seem to be completely cut off from each other.

I mean, how else to explain the Berserker and probable upcoming Ninja/Daredevil on Thief, and then compare it to the Tempest and Dragonhunter?

But before a bunch of rage posts follow, I’m not doing the “do what I say or I leave” threat post so common these days. I’m just saying that the game’s current direction doesn’t fill me with a desire to play, and I am honestly hoping that ANet gets its act together because I DO like the concept of the game, but it just gets more and more difficult to want to login and actually do anything.

So an expansion that has new zones, new content, new monsters, masteries, the new difficult content, 9 elite specializations and a new class, and you are quitting because of one skill?

That doesn’t make any sense, but to each their own I guess

Daze prevents all skill use; stun also prevents any kind of movement. Note that there are a few exceptions, most notably stun breakers.

I don’t generally think something both stuns and dazes, but I dont know every single class back to back; most likely if that is the case Daze has a longer duration than stun.

Example: Confounding Suggestions has a “chance” (at 100% currently) to inflict a stun whenever you inflict a daze. Really, in this case, what that ends up amounting to is that you are stunned instead of dazed (and stun is superior). But that trait also has a 5 second cool down, so if you are chain dazing someone it wont always be triggering.

and this is coming from someone who got the game at launch and only played for a month(personal stuff) then hasnt played till about 2 months ago. I’m not complaining about all the skins, sales, and living seasons i missed(just bought LS2). I understand it’s my own fault for not playing.

Amen. If new player chose not to buy the game whenever it came out 3 years ago it’s their fault not arena nets and therefore is completely and utterly fair.

Mini wall of text, but the words scattered about in all caps give it appeal.

+1
would +2 if i could be certain you were sarcastic.

OP: LS is short for living story. Can you go back and revisit earlier times in your life?

…wait? you can? how? YOU MUST TELL ME! I COMMAND YOU TO TELL ME!

Then why can I still play season two?

As was pointed out, they were trying something new. They weren’t entirely sure where they were going with the entire thing over the course of the years, and they later on decided that going back to replay things would be great, essentially in living Story season 2.

Once they decided that, it was too late to go back to season 1. Especially considering the fact that season 1 saw Lion’s Arch destroyed and season 2 having it rebuilt, it would be exceptionally difficult to simply insert all of that back in. A lot of LS1 was open world content and not instanced content

In other words, what you’re asking it is very far from trivial. That being the case, they have already said they would like to be able to make that happen if possible. They’re just not sure if it will be.

I understand I’m mainly asking to show my support of the idea and to properly word the unfairness.

The word unfair is thrown around a lot around these forums, and it’s really unrealistic to do so. First of all many mmo will have events or content that will be lost to players coming along later. That’s life.

And if they put out LS1 somehow for that group, another could just as easily then starts screaming about how it’s now unfair to them.

Just accept that you just can’t please everyone, and some people are just going to end up being in a situation they consider unfair. Again, that’s life.

If they find a way to somehow make living story one available to new players, that’s awesome, but if I were a new player, I would not consider it unfair, just bad timing on my part that I didn’t to join the game at an earlier date. I would regret that, but I wouldn’t be sitting here howling about how unfair it is. Because I understand that is life.

Morfedel.
Do you even read wvw section?
Wvw only forums??
Do you even wvw??
New map just for pure design and perfumary was never what wvw community asked for.
Wvw community has been asking for yhe exact same things for over 3 years already.
But anet does not care avout this game mode enough to listen.
Adding More of the same is not improving wvw.
Just readbthe first 3 pages of the wvw section..you will see lots and lots of subjects popping on over and over and over and over and over..
Ok i think you got the idea..
But ye a new map is cool.. just not gonna fix the old problems..
Gonna have old problems into different textures.
YaY.
Have you bothered to think why even on reset night queues are so small lately?? Prime time reset with barely queue or small ones..
There used to be huge ones..
Aside from reset nights there are queues once or maybe twice a day on 1 bl if you get someyhing huge going on there..if not..no queue at all…
Why is that??
3 years passed .
Basically nothing changed..
Defending still means nothing.
Server still fails to handle 3 side way fights.
Balancing never existed..its done based on spvp and wvw players just gotta deal with it and move on with builds becomming op or just useless out of nowhere…
But wow.. new map gonna save it alll..
Just like eotm did huh…
After all…wvw community lovessss eotm map

LOL

Quite a lot has changed actually. Remember that orb you used to have to capture for instance? There also used to be underwater areas in the center that are no longer there? borderlands bloodlust?

those are just examples, but feel free to completely ignore them and keep saying nothing has changed.

Oh, and I dont know about your server, but on reset nights my server often has queues, and active wvw the entire time. My server is VERY active. If yours isnt, thats a server problem, not a wvw problem; and we LOVE wvw there.

As usual, YMMV, and apparently yours does very much, but don’t presume to talk for everyone in your clearly very biased and inaccurate rant there.

The day is comming.
3 names for you to remember:
1- lineage eternal
1.1- hybrid dugeons and their idea seems quite promising.

2- lost ark.
This game will just come to kick kitten .
Search on you tube the vids about it. Classes and engine and ideas already posted.. even some skill trees already leaked…
Will be just HUGE.. as long as the developers dont kitten it up big time this will be something to be remembered and discussed quite a few times no the next months

3- black desert
3.1- this was a great promise some time ago and still is..
The main “problem” with it might be the graphics being to high… mass pvps might cause low fps for great part of the community with low configurations..
So they having some hard time dealing with critics due to that.. you need high end pc to play it smoothly.. still rocks.

But lost ark.. thats the name everone ahould remember..
Gw2 could be awesome…
Unfortunetly anet does not take it seriously enough..
Wvw completely forgotten
Legendary weapons bugged for 18 months and anet doenst even post about it.
Expantion comming… no game engine improvement mentioned on it or whatsoever…
Skill lag everytime 60+ mass events take place.
World boss not even fun anymore.
No new dugeons since…. game start??? Besides some fractals…
But ye… living story update every 2 weeks is going great i guess

How was WVW completely forgotten? They have entire new borderlands maps they are already showing in closed beta testing with live stream video for gods sake!!!

I’m on the fence as to whether content should ever exist for the tower. I like the fact it has an air of mystery about it and has done since GW1

This is the stance I’d normally take, but I’d be less bothered by that at this point since they’ve already explained too much about what’s currently going on there, so it’s less interesting than it was in GW1 anyway.

They have? Where? I just checked the wiki and there was almost nothing there.

you know, it might be cool to explore the wizard’s tower in a fractal. Or maybe when GW2 is near the end of its life cycle, a kind of last hurrah kinda thing.

I’m pretty sure Chronophantasma’d Phantasms can be Shattered immediately, they just can’t attack immediately.

Morfedel.4165

I really think Alacrity is still a bit undertuned in general, but I can understand the worry about how powerful it could be. Also, I think I see this side of Chronophantasma now, although it really does suck that they get dazed in melee range of the enemy you attack (makes them prime for a quick cleave).

I’m strongly opposed to the Illusionary Reversion nerf. I think just a short ICD to prevent rolling the F-keys is far better than this nerf. I would recommend a 3 second ICD; that’d be sufficient here. I also still think the cast times for the utility wells are too long and should be shorter and that some traits need a little bit of work, but otherwise Chronomancer is in a great place.

Also, I personally like the listed change to Gravity Well, but if it’s too weak or something we can always provide that feedback in the next BWE.

Thanks for the hard work, Robert!

You know, I’m wondering, if the illusions are resummoned, do they benefit from the trait Protected Phantasms? If so that may be enough to give them a chance to make their attack. Particularly if you add on Persisting Images and Signet of Illusions.

They do. They also gain Retaliation from Persisting Images.

Although both traits are still really weak IMO. Phantasms are so paper-thin you’ll need buffs on the scale of bugged Signet of Illusions (+200% health) to make those traits worth taking.

Wait, is that a bug signet of illusions has NOW?!

EDIT: If not, well, I find that if you want your phantasms to survive beyond their first attack, taking those two traits and SoI is worthy. I’ve had them survive at least a couple of attacks on everything shy of serious AOE saturation or massively hard hitting champions.

And I think its fine if they die after two or three attacks because they are illusions, not minions or pets. If they get three attacks in i’m more than happy.

All that looks reasonable to me. The alacrity changes are very similar to what I suggested elsewhere

I feel it’s really important to have an alternative to DE so the only thing to keep an eye on is illusionary reversion. In small fights I expect the new one stacks up just fine, but in larger fights… illusions die very fast. That’s particularly important when you consider chronomancer is making bunker/brawler type builds much more plausible. I’d be more comfortable with an ICD as it treats both large and small fights equally – still, we’ll see if this one works fine in the next test

You could also alter the trigger to be 1 phantasm OR 2 clones, that would prevent chaining too.

You know, you could do what they did with Chronophantasma: remove the restrictions you have now and have each new clone summoned is stunned, IE cant move to shatter for that brief stunned period.

Just an idea.

Gravity Well is definitely an improvement that can make it worth taking over Moa for PvP, and useful for open world PvE. However, the float is really fun. How about making the third pull a float instead?

I agree that the float was really fun. And if you are worried about three pulls being OP, why not make it a 3 second float, one instance, and have it pulse a condition such as slow, crippled, chill, or something similar? that way they can use one stun breaker, which fixes that problem, but you still get some other effect. Maybe a small damage pulse going on as well?

The float is really fun and cool looking. I’d love to keep it

EDIT: never tested it, when the target is floating do they end up out of melee range?

I agree. I’d run Dire armor with perplexity runes. I’ll often run with mirror images for another couple clones for another shatter.

However, I’ve been playing around with the idea of using the domination line instead of chaos, take rending shatter, blurred inscriptions, and mental anguish, and take 5 signets: ether, inspiration, mdinight, domination, moa,… maybe pair it with runes of reisistance. It may suck, but I like experimenting, so I may try that out.

Go with Celestial armor. It takes time to make (30 days for the full set of 6) but is well worth it. You won’t always want to be in condition spec and Celestial gives you better stats overall.

This is really horrid advice. Do not make celestial gear. If you want to run a different spec, then get armor that corresponds for what you’re doing. Taking celestial and trying to make it work in all types of builds is a great way to be really bad at all types of builds.

Couldnt disagree more. Celestial runes, esp with traveller runes, are awesome.

There really is more to the game than dps. Just fyi.

Not in this game there isn’t. Maybe in HoT…. maybe. But the current game has pretty much zero cause for passive defenses.

Thats funny. I ran a celestial build with traveller runes in Arah with my mesmer. Watched as three of the other four players (guild mates so it was friendly but still) giving me a hard time for not running zerkers.

And they died and had to reset a few times. And although I survived each time, I had to go retreat anyway and wait for them to respawn and reset the fight.

And the times we ran through arah, I got to the goals each time and waited, patiently, as one or two of them would die and reset and reset and….

I know. I already know your response. They must suck. Well, I have a few responses to that:

1. I see that happen more often than you’d think. Sometimes its just one or two dying, but that sometimes becomes enough we have to reset anyway
2. Sometimes running from one place to another can be harrowing, and deaths occur then too.
3. You only have so much endurance, and sooner or later you’re going to get tagged. I spend more time than I like reviving downed zerkers because they either sucked at dodging, or just ran out of endurance.
3. Being human, we just mistime something, or maybe our keyboard’s acting up, or whatever
4. Frankly, not everyone CAN dodge as well as others. zerker sets, as such, simply are not the best answer for everyone. Unless they should just stop playing the game?

I realize there are some people out there that are so good at the game, at knowing the patterns, and timing their dodges perfectly that that rarely happens to them. But I’ve watched people make the claim that they dont need defensive sets go down a few minutes after making that claim. It makes me chuckle and shake my head.

Of course, I’m talking about in pve. In pvp it becomes even more significant: if you are wearing full offensive armor such as zerkers, and a zerker thief backstabs you from stealth, you are almost certainly going down in one hit. I’ve seen thieves easily top well over 16k damage in one hit, and taking down someone in one blow.

Going with some defensive stats gives you at least a chance to survive that first hit and be able to go defensive or counter. Its VERY hard to defend against a stealthed thief who can one shot you. There are obvious exceptions.

I think they are going to have three maps, which will have up to 3 biomes each (although maybe 2 instead for one or two of them), and one special map. I remember them talking about revealing difficult group content, and I swear I heard a dev say three maps, so since there has been data mined four names, my bet is those other three are “regular” maps, and Dragon’s Stand is a special map for this hard content they have been talking about.

Absolutely no evidence to back that up, its just a guess.

Elementalist: this one has a lot going on. Condis, power, damage, etc. They can only have one weapon set, and thisn will determine a lot about the ele’s capabilities; that being the case, however, they can provide excellent support with water, for instance, some good CC options, good dps…. they are also very mobile. I take it back what I said about high skill, as there is a lot to juggle with them.

Necromancer: The tankiest of the spellcasters. Has a secondary form that has an additional set of hit points. Can do some impressive conditions, group support mostly consists of things such as converting conditions to boons. Can steal health, generate fear effects. Fear is a great cc, and few classes have any real access to it – unfortunately I’d say even the necro doesn’t get enough access to fear effects, lol. Can use minions to complicate the battlefield. this is tied for second place with engineer for most fun for me

Mesmer: my favorite and, especially after the xpac comes out, is supposed to be the most skill-based of the classes. Time will tell; has impressive access to CC effects; of the spellcasters has the least direct defense abilities, but has lots of indirect defenses; the class has the second best stealth, and has clones as well, making it more difficult to fight until you can identify the caster from the clones (note, a veteran player who knows what to look for can do so easily… in a non crowded battlefield. Newbies struggle a lot more, so play a mesmer to learn how to fight them. Also, when the battlefield is mroe crowded, its harder to locate the mesmer. Imagine fighting a necro with minions AND the mesmer at the same time, makes it hard to find any good targets lol); mesmer has some great access to conditions as well; will have a unique effect called Alacrity and can “rewind time” a few seconds if planned right. DPS and such usually comes from either phantasms or shatters, both of which take some planning and set up to go right – great in small groups, but vulnerable against very large groups.

Revenant: too new, imho, so I’ll reserve comment for now.

Honestly, if you like CC, group support, and reflects, I’d say either guardian, elementalist, or mesmer. The way you are leaning and the stuff you like… I’d suggest… elementalist I think.
