You won’t get a costume maker, they’d rather make you buy it multiple times if you’re desperate for more than one of a single costume.
Gems and so on.

You want a quiver? Make one.I meant a quiver that’s either a skin (no stats), low level back item (like the Halloween books) or the ability to craft it via recipe with actual leather scraps through Leatherworking instead of dumping 20-70g worth of materials into some mystical forge.
Armor professions ought to have been able to make backpacks from the start, books from tailoring, quivers from leatherworking and spineguards from armorsmith.
They probably don’t want to risk any of the bad publicity they got from the last two events.
The last event in particular probably scared the hell out of them since it put an awful lot of trial players off buying the game.
Money, especially a perceived loss, is the best kind of motivation for companies like A.net.
Welcome to the reality of being a second class customer behind the infinite (only in a.net’s minds) profits of potential customers.
Well, either they got fed up with that DirectSong thing (players keep complaining about the service), or he can’t do any better.
Soule is a great artist, but after a while everything he does sounds mostly the same (several GW1 and GW2 tracks sounds way too similar to Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights tracks). He has so many repeating patters that one can hear 10 seconds of a composition and know it’s from Soule. There’s a limit to everything.
Probably a mix of not being able to do better and being unhappy with them adding GW1 music to GW2 because a lot of people didn’t like the new music so much.
Are transfers free still? I thnk its a one week cooldown, but are they free?
Arenanet needs to stop the free transfers if they are still going, and make transferring TO low pop servers more attractive…via free boosters or whatever.
They need to make guesting work before restricting people even more for the sake of WvW.
Seems to me that it’s a dummy dev only item that is spoofing the “tps report” from Office Space.
It’s not an item, also the dev stuff seems to be prefixed by TEST or QA.
Here are some nice examples:
[&BhE7AAA=]
[&BhksAAA=]
I came across this [&BqEOAAA=], could be nothing, could be much worse than nothing, figured it wasn’t the best idea to pretend I never found it.
Try it ingame if you like, if it turns out to be a recount feature we’ll be seeing a lot of it combined with Warrior + Guardian only parties.
There are similar codes for stuff like changing weapons and all kinds of other stuff.
I’d like a Lute to bash people around with. But who am I kidding, it’ll inflated up to about 20g worth of gems by the time it comes out and gets added to the gem shop.
[&AgEpTwAA] for anybody who wants to dream about what could be.
It was from a customer support person. I don’t know the specific differences between customer support, game master, and community coordinator, but I do know that Gaile Gray and her policy outweigh all of them. Just read the top comments of that Reddit thread.
I don’t really get what you are missing here. The mod alters the game. Simple as that. It is clearly stated that anything that alters the game is a third-party program and is not allowed. Just because Gaile Gray didn’t say it specifically, doesn’t mean they are all liars and don’t know what they are talking about.
There is more than one person who works for Anet that can speak on this matter you know.
I edited the post you quoted to further clarify. I’m not missing anything. Some of the staff peoples chiming in on this issue are missing certain information from other staff members. I’m quite aware that Gaile isn’t the only employee of AN, but her word does reign over the majority of others in the customer support department.
This is the same Gaile who told us that on GW1 she hit somebody on her own team with Poison Arrow during a GvG match.
I wouldn’t take anything she says as solid evidence without it being backed up by other people.
They said this with GW1, it didn’t stop them occasionally banning people who used texmod.
I spent like 5 hours in the fractals and got <50 relics. How much time must I spend doing something I don’t like for a piece of gear?
And why would you even need the gear when you don’t like the area where it is needed?
Stats are outright better than exotic gear.
Ever since the Halloween update, they seem to be carefully managing what they do with the gem shop to keep the exchange rate high and not give it chance to drop back down.
They extended the added drops for the Black Lion chest until the last event started (while removing the ability to forge Mad King chests) and right now the Consortium chests are still up a week after the event has finished (again they removed ways to get the items, this time by stopping them from dropping).
It’s pretty obvious that it’s a calculated move to make gold to gem ratios as unfeasible as they possibly can be in order to drive up the sale of gems.
I read somewhere that players would be able to dress like NPCs. Guess option is not released yet?
One of those things where they’d probably like us to forget about.
It’s a bit like parts of this two year old article that state features are definite parts of the game and yet they’re nowhere to be seen.
Jeff Strain runs his own company now, that should say something by itself.
Also, contrary to popular belief, the silent majority doesn’t implicitly agree with the changes to the game. When they like something, they say nothing, when they don’t like something, they simply quit while still saying nothing.
The only people who will have truly accurate statistics from the game and from that survey are a.net and they’re unlikely to reveal them, especially if they’re quite negative ones.
It’s barely even a zone as it stands right now. No vistas, no skillpoints, minimal amount of events. Seems like it was really set up for us to do the clearing out the zone during the weekend rather than playing later.
It would probably do better as a 75-80 zone with heart quests than another Orr deadzone.
I doubt they’ll even acknowledge there might be something to address.
Back when they used Gaile Gray to distribute information in GW1, she had an amazing blind spot for that kind of stuff. Even when the district was 95% full of people afking rings.
Guildwars had the Mursat that if they used Spectral Agony and you were not infused you lost 100 health a second. Now the Karka are replacing the Mursat in that department. But instead of fighting an Eleodon to infuse your armor its a two step process. Do fractal dungeon and use the mystic forge to add the infusion. Seems like a low amount but in Guildwars there were only 20 levels and that was maximum. Arenanet believed and still believes in balance in their games so in guildwars a level 20’s highest foe was 32 no 5k damage to or from foes.
The difference being that infusion against Spectral Agony was part of the story and attainable in three missions with a fourth way to get it in an explorable zone.
It also applied to whatever armor you had on at the time you got it, you didn’t need to go and get 15k armor to be able to get infusion.
The end result are similar but getting there in GW2 is much, much longer and are being dragged out by the “over time” nonsense being used to excuse them rushing this stuff out.
Rude players have nothing to do with FotM, the same thing could happen in any dungeon, in the open world and in WvW
The problem you mention is the player in question nothing else!
If he insulted you and used nasty slur as you said I hope you reported him. Its the only way we have to solve this problem!
Fractals of The Mists is set up in such a way that it encourages rude/antisocial playing.
Gearchecks, level checks, refusing to play with people on a lower difficulty and in some cases; refusing to play with certain professions.
This is going to get worse before it gets better.
The way fractal access by lowest difficulty level makes it a pretty antisocial feature.
It pushes people towards only being prepared to progress it at their current level and nothing else.
I think it’s a problem that will need to be addressed because it’s going to get absurd quite soon.
None of the above, I don’t feel motivated in the grind for Ascended gear, specially when it’s behind and effectively part of a three-part gating system.
No, I refuse to inflict the issues this game has onto friends.
I expected most of the issues the event had, massive lag, buggy events, disconnections at a critical moment of the one-time event, login servers not coping with the strain and so on.
I didn’t expect the precursors from the end chest so that was a nice surprise for me, seems even I’m not cynical enough to predict everything a.net did wrong.
Also lacking game features we should have by now, mainly guesting and also things like activities that by several developer’s admissions “were” in the game two years back.
None of this would have made a good impression and for the eight people I do know who got a trial, it made a very bad impression on them, none of them want anything to do with the game because of this weekend.
During your playthrough of the game you committed genocide against many races/species, and are effectively an ecological terrorist by depleting many areas of their resources and by helping several organizations build massive industrial setups.
We’re all genocidal, homicidal, ecological terrorists and the dragons are here to save Tyria from us.
They have sold over 2 M I L L I O N copies … why on earth do lemmings think they need money already. For those too lazy to do the simple math that is 120 million dollars based on the CHEAPEST version of the game only. I would happily bet they are closer to 1/4 of a billion already and climbing steadily with Christmas approaching.
Do not kid yourself into thinking the dev team makes anywhere near that. WoW brain washed an entire generation into thinking a monthly sub was needed to keep a game alive and making content … box sales pay for that and more. The cash shop is about greed not need. Thank the shareholders for that.
Of that $120,000,000 (ish) how much do you think goes back into on-going development costs, how much is absorbed into the publishing company and is never spent on anything Arena Net are currently working on.
A lot of it will also be re-invested back in to cover the development costs from the original development. Rough example, EA barely broke even with the initial box costs on SWoTOR (Though that cost ridiculously more, it illustrates my point). EA even said prior to launch they needed to sell X amount of copies to just break even, let alone make a profit.
The gem store covers on-going costs after the initial cash influx.
Anet sold around 7 million boxes of the first 4 chapters … basic math again … over 300 mil. We ALL saw the offices of Anet before launch and most of us have better PCs than what they created the game on. Are you implying the staff is so well paid that half a billion doesn’t meet their needs?
This is corporate GREED not need. I am old enough to remember when software and games shipped and WORKED because patching over the Internet wasn’t really an option. Those companies still managed to make money ….
Gem store is a money grab no more no less. Sadly, Anet is now creating events with the intent of making money from them instead of love of the game and fan appreciation. How they were in GW1 is why I have happily contributed to their cause and sold as many people as I could get to listen on the integrity of this company. With the direction I see them taking now … I am embarrassed that I did.
There’s this funny idea people have about games needing cash shops or else they wouldn’t be able to keep their servers going.
It’s the same sort of thinking that WoW players go through with their subs when something like less than 1% of their subs go towards server upkeep.
I love how you call anyone with a different opinion than you a “vocal minority locust”.
It seems to be the standard “my argument is right, your is wrong” logic on these forums.
[insert large portion of the playerbase here] hasn’t displayed any opinion on [insert current argument basis here] so they must implicitly agree with my views.
Don’t even justify this thread with a response, let it die. The OP has no clue what he’s talking about.
Wait until he finds out that Spectral Agony existed on GW1, he’ll be on that wiki page within seconds.
It wasn’t a gating mechanism though, you were still able to do Nightfall whether you had a high level of the title or not. It just made things slightly easier.
Agony get to the point where you’re unable to progress without infused ascended gear.
For a game that’s being sold all over the world, one-time events make no sense at all. No matter how they determine the starting point, it’s going to be impossible for people from some time zone to take part.
They make even less sense when we’ve seen time and time again that it can barely handle the demand of one-time events. The servers going down during the mad king one-time event, the crippling lag during phase one and the login servers breaking combined with lag during phase three.
It really is time they explored the alternatives.
weren’t they going to stop selling these chests at some point? if i remember reading correctly, they were intended to only be in for the duration of the weekend event. guess not?
They were going to stop selling them at the end of the weekend.
Then again they were going to stop selling the Halloween chest at the end of that event but kept them in (while removing forging mad king chests) till the start of this event as a treat for themselves.
After yesterday’s event I’ve developer a sudden aversion to bosses with grossly overinflated healthbars to compensate for any real difficulty to them. It’s put me off 90% of the level 80 content.
Maybe it was the masses of champion Karka that did it.
Yeah. Mods are handing out infractions like candies! And the super-mods (don’t know how they call people who oversee mod’s work) aren’t responding to emails raising the question of mod’s work.
It’s called doing damage control the WAR/EA/AOC way………
I think you mean the Stanley Woo way.
It’s hard to argue with an entire overflow full of people saying how much they hated the one-time event and that they were glad it was over.
Also of course this thread is going to get negative responses because it portrays the entire population of the forum in a negative light.
Just because you didn’t pay upfront for it doesn’t make it free.
You paid upfront for the game itself, for god’s sake. They promised content updates, they delivered, and they certainly didn’t have to give us anything this big, with a free dungeon and map.
Edited by moderator: quote and comment edited since the original message does not longer exists
Crippling lag, progress breaking bugs and badly implemented features are a very special kind of content!
Events running all day long instead of being a one-time lagfest certain was something GW1 did well.
Those whose focus is loot only will only see loot from the event.
The rest of us partook in an epic adventure and saw Tyria change in front of our very eyes.
and those of us who took part in the ending event saw invisible crabs killing mostly invisible zergs.
Wait, that’s what we didn’t see.
(edited by Mr Crazy Moose.5760)
I know eight people who had trials over the weekend, none of them have decided to buy the game because of the lag and general bugginess they encountered with the lost shore event.
Hell of a way to make a first impression.
Precursors really shouldn’t have a place in special event rewards. It turns it from something special to being a money-making trip.
I guarantee people will expect the next event to give out precursors too and they’ll plan ahead for that. It’ll have changed their entire outlook on what events are for.
(edited by Mr Crazy Moose.5760)
2, the event was tedious and made even worse by the lag.
There are numerous ways it could have been better but most revolve around being able to see and hit the crabs you’re fighting.
Also nobody in the world appreciated the second reinforcements event.
It’s nice to know that a.net improved the system from back when we were getting this at launch.
I guess they just decided that if they leave it alone, it would sort itself.
Most of the people who turned up for the one-time event, missed it.
Colossal server-based lag and disconnections galore wrecked it.
Large scale events like this are foolish to have if you don’t know how it’s actually going to play out in a live environment.
Pretty much everybody could see that the lag and server issues from Halloween’s one-time event would return.
It’ll probably get worse with the inclusion of trial players, which sort of defeats the point of the trial since they’ll go away with a bad impression of the game.
I’m not sure what possessed them to do more one-time events, they’re always going to cause these sort of problems.
We’ve also made a few changes to react to the lag that some players have been experiencing.
This is hilarious, it’s the biggest understatement I’ve ever seen.
Lion’s Arch across whole worlds and overflows was frozen solid for pretty much everybody.
Phleem sits and thinks
1. I used to write software, and it is generally a good idea when your programs don’t fail in front of thousands of people, because it makes you look like an idiot.
Usually ends up getting you fired if you fail that badly.
Strangely in video game development they get praised by the company when they royally screw things up. Just look at Izzy’s track record.
Arena Net need to speak out against elitism, not let it fester and grow into a widespread issue. Otherwise the community will become stagnant and spiteful.
By adding ascended gear and infusion, they’ve actually caused it to increase.
We’re likely to see stuff like gearchecks become really common and for people to demand "features like gearscore and DPS recount to be added to the game.
There are two more phases yet. Tomorrow is a new part with something awesome. 8PM GMT.
Judging by the performance of this phase and the inclusion of trial players, the other two phases are going to be flat out broken.
Thanks for your patience!
I really doubt anybody is being patient so there’s no point thanking us.
A lot of us never saw the ending of the event or even saw it progress beyond being a small way into the collecting stage.
Sounds like we (working adults) didn’t miss much but a giant lag fest
You’re missing out on a great deal. It’s just a great deal of seeing the back end of the same crab for five mins at a time.
The servers obviously can’t handle it and the trial players are going to make this weekend even worse than the halloween one-time event.
Fundamentally unplayable, on my world it’s simply locked for about three mins at a time.
Trials are going to make everything even worse too.
