Steam OS

No, I do not. I have dedicated game consoles. Why would I need another one?
No gaming company is gong to stop producing Windows games and move to Steam. You go where the money is. Windows is the dominate OS and Steam is not going to change that. I find it mind boggling that people are pushing for ports when the OS has not even made it past the testing phase and may never even get off the ground. I wonder how many here have even bothered to download it and try to get it working?

This. Why do people think Steam is going to replace Windows in one fell swoop?
SteamOS isn’t competing with Windows. Its competing with PS4 and XBone for living room space.
I am not a Windows fanboy, but why would I want to pay Valve for a duplicate system that all my other programs won’t run on? Why would the average PC user want to switch everything they have when Windows will play the games they want just as well as Steam and still do everything else the way they have been used to for the last umpteen years.
And as a go-to for putting the image on my TV…..anyone that knows how to plug a DVI or HDMI cord can do that currently now buying a $30 cord rather than a $500 box.
I’m not against SteamOS or the Steambox either. I believe it will find its niche in the living room market with the PS4 and the XBone, and of course amongst enthusiasts, but don’t believe it will topple Windows as the dominant platform for PC. At least not right away in one fell swoop like some people seem to believe it will/should. Maybe after a few/many years of market penetration and making a Windows —> SteamOS transition for all all tasks besides gaming for the average PC gamer. Enthusiasts and early-adopters don’t fall into the category of an average PC gamer.

What's the point of "instance owner" ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well, if you didn’t get kicked out, people would ask others to spend a minute to open the Dungeon or Fractal Level for them and then just leave the group so that the others could find a replacement, while not worrying about having the requirements of doing the Explorable Dungeon-path or the Fractal Level in the first place.

You get kicked to preserve the integrity of the design philosophy that your group actually have to earn the rights to play at a certain Fractal Level or in an Explorable mode.

This doesn’t make sense to me. If this was the actual case, why let people join explorable modes when they havent done story to begin with? This system isn’t preserving anything. Alot of people do explorable modes of dungeons and have never viewed a story mode. People join fractal level much higher than they have played. People outright buy cleared dungeon instances without ever having ran it at all.
Its preserving nothing of the sort, since its not limiting you.
Its an error that should never have been in the game. Instance ownership needs to pass to someone else upon the leader leaving. The rest of the party shouldn’t have to waste their time, or worry that on a whim of the lead leaving they could lose whatever they have put into the dungeon.

Stacking is what happened in the absence of a trinity. It serves its purposes, but I would rather see bosses and mobs have skills to counter it.

Collision detection would be a mess. Imagine other scenarios with this in place. Having to actually avoid people in clustered areas like LA. Or colliding and not able to move through your allies in dungeons (potentially messing up dodges). Doing jumping puzzles when other people are at the same time (the current wintersday one would be terrible)

As for trolling, how is that so when all my arguments are based on facts? Is it because you don’t like that I’m defending Anet using valid arguments?

Whenever you have a debate where one side is backed by facts, and the other is based on pure opinion and speculation, guess which side will always win.

I accept my own suggestions and problems with Ascended implementation as my own opinion which I am sure is shared with others. You view your own opinions as gospel truth and 100% fact in a blind defence mechanism. You bend the truths to being “facts” when they are not that at all. You also claim to be defending a company which is not being attacked. Suggestions are being made and you claim it an attack that must be defended. You would rather see them get no feedback except all rainbows and sunshine?
That is how you are trolling. This quote by you proves that in itself. You’re not backed by facts. You’re backed by your own version and view of what is absolute fact.
Maybe if you varied the argument a little bit instead of regurgitating the same bent “facts” and avoiding direct questions to you that challenge them in any way, there might have been an actual debate at hand. When one person avoids direct questions, statements and in their reply to such posts have no relation to what was even asked and instead posts something completely irrelevant to what was asked, do you have a debate? No, you have a forum troll looking to stir people up for no reason.

Yeah for pve players it doesn’t matter. But I am not one of those. I fight things that hit back (real people) and when you face someone that has the same skillevel as you, and they have more stats, armor, and weapon damage, they will beat you.

If I played this game for PvE I would never even think about getting any ascended armor.

GW2 is not alt friendly for WvW players. That better?

You’re close. However, in WvW, I can be geared in all whites, and still win. There are two things that determine wins: Skill, and zerg size. Skill is far superior than gear. If you feel having a slight stat increase will guarantee you victories, you severely underestimate how good WvW players can be. As for zergs, you can run naked, and still survive.

What server are you playing on out of curiosity?

I’m on Maguuma. The #1 skilled NA server in WvW. We can go toe to toe with Black Gate, so long as we’re awake.

This explains a lot. If you think a person in white items can beat a player of equal skill in ascended items, you’re delusional…. but I already knew that from reading this post.

It’s done on a daily basis in our WvW. You’ll see the occasional Maguuman without armor standing over the downed body of enemies. You don’t need armor when you’re skilled enough to evade attacks. That’s why I say the Skill > Gear.

The rest of the story being that those dead enemies were AFK. I’m sure people frequently WvW naked and take down multiple enemies. You can’t just pull statistics out of the air either, though judging from other topics you’re also trolling for reactions, I have a feeling it’s a habit.

Smooth Penguin.5294, you are trolling. You are regurgitating the same things over and over with no clear understanding of what’s even being said. I am not allowed to speculate in that manner any further, it seems. Noone has argued what you say, yet you keep regurgitating arguments noone is making.
Your points are invalid as they have little to nothing to do with the topic or what I or others have said to you, backed by facts that also are not valid as they do not pertain the issue that was being discussed. If someone else would care to feed this troll, feel free.
What would be nice now is some intelligent discussion of alternate methods of obtaining Ascended Armor, which is what I was hoping from this topic before being side-tracked. Or if anyone has any legitimate and valid reason why an alternate method of equal difficulty and time could not be placed along side the current method, I’d like to hear that as well.

Complainers want an easier, alternative way to get Ascended gear. By asking for another method to acquire Ascended gear that’s easier than Crafting and RNG chest drops, would basically invalidate the need to Craft in the first place. Why would Anet put in place something that punishes the people who spent the time and money to level their Disciplines to 500?

This alone proves you don’t know what I am saying or what people are asking for.
NOT ASKING FOR EASIER, ALTERNATIVE WAY.
Did you purposely skip over the parts where I said, even harder alternative methods would be welcomed by me. Or just ignore them? I don’t care if its harder alternate methods. RNG chance is not a viable harder method as you’re not actually working on anything, you’re hoping on chance. I just do NOT WANT TO CRAFT AND MINDLESSLY GRIND.
Again, you are arguing something I did not say. Or even hint at. And I said the exact opposite many times over. Something else of EQUAL or even HARDER difficulty that does not involve crafting.
I don’t know how else I can say it, because you just don’t get it. You keep falling back to an argument against something I am not in any way, shape or form saying.

You can get Ascended weapons as ultra rare chest drops already. Surely Anet will do the same for armors. But the alternative that’s available is much harder than just spending time to craft your discipline to lv 500. Why would people want to do an alternative harder way to get something?

Ultra rare chest drops are in game now. This isn’t what’s wanted as it’s not a viable method of farming these, namely the RNG factor or trying to assemble a matching set.
A harder method of acquisition would also be fine with me, and maybe others though I can’t speak for them, if it did not involve grinding countless mats and crafting. Thats what you seem to not be able to grasp. Its not wanting it handed or easier. Its suggesting other ways that are just as difficult or even more so. Just not crafting with an insane amount of mats. This method is not fun, engaging or even seem like playing a game to many people. Its a chore. A game should not feel like a chore. Thus offering alternate, viable methods for acquiring this gear would open appeal of it to many more people. If more difficult ways were added and a lot of people found them fun to partake in, then it doesn’t matter that’s it harder. It’s fun, engaging content to be involved in while working on your BiS gear.
I don’t believe Anet wants, or is it in their best interest, to have people blow off what’s supposed to be BiS gear simply because the method of acquiring it is tedious as you suggest.

Exactly. The argument that there are no alternative methods is moot. You can either craft Ascended gear, or have Exotics.

No. People are asking for and suggesting alternate ways be made in game. You are fighting against it. For no reason.
That there is not alternate methods is the point. Its not moot. How will they ever know if we never say, ask or suggest? You are actively discouraging feedback of what is wanted by obviously quite a few people in the game.
If there was a legitimate reason for you to argue this, maybe I could understand or even respect that – like demanding removal of it or the method. Those I could see arguing. But as it stands all you’re doing is arguing that people suggest and ask for alternate ways….for no reason other than to argue with them.

Mouse over each map, do not look at percentage, look at the actual counts of each one.
I ran into this with a character where they added things to maps after I had 100% completed them months ago. I had to go back to those maps, even though they said 100%, and get the things added to get the gift if completion.

If you hate being forced to grind… then stop forcing yourself. It’s you, not the game, that demands the need for grinding. The moment you realize that you can play this game normally without Ascended gear, is the day you free yourself from the “grind argument”.

No, it is not needed. I am fully aware nothing needs this gear. Nothing needs exotic for that matter. Noone is arguing the points you are making.
Its there as BiS gear. The best you can get. Noone wants it handed to them. Noone wants it quick and easy. Noone is asking for this. The implementation and acquisition of it is whats being argued. Noone wants to remove the current process.
Other options other than the crafting for obtaining this endgame BiS gear is whats wanted. Not an easier way. Not a faster way. Alternate ways. The moment you realize this is the moment you stop arguing against points noone is making in a blind defense mechanism.
While you might view time-gated crafting as some sort of challenge, many people obviously do not. It’s not about having catered to the way I want it either. Right now its only catering to grinders and crafters. If you don’t like that, you are being forced to do it for whats supposed to be endgame BiS gear or just have to sit out whats supposed to be endgame gearing.
For the record, I am not grinding this gear. I don’t want to and refuse to . I want other methods that actually do require effort.

Why are you so adamantly against players wanting legitimate, alternate ways to earn Ascended gear? By leaving the current method in game and adding a 2nd or 3rd alternate method of acquisition affects you how, exactly? Especially if said alternate methods were difficult, required time and effort? Just not grinding mats and crafting. And I’m not talking about easier, speedier methods. Ones of equal difficulty. Its an odd thing to be against which would improve the game substantially by opening up is BiS gear to multiple options of gameplay, thus appealing to a wider market of players.
I’m really curious as to why you are so opposed to this.

I think the argument falls in the Entitlement category. Some players feel that they should be able to get all the BiS gear quickly and easily. Because Ascended gear takes time and effort to craft, you get the push back from players who don’t want to expend the time and effort.

Do you have this ready to paste in any topic that talks about Ascended?
Maybe you should read some of the topics you paste this into in a blind rush to defend something people aren’t even asking for. Very few, if any, are asking for it to be easy or quick.

So Wrong with World Completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MrRuin.9740

it is fair.
WvW players have to do a ton of PvE stuff to get a Legendary. Far, far more than any PvE player has to do in WvW. If you start watching the WvW maps for when you have control of certain things, and do it as you do everything else, chances are very high you will have WvW map completion done before everything else.
People tend to leave WvW map completion as the last thing to do and of course its frustrating then because you have to watch and wait for some of it. Start early and it will be done long, long before you need it.

Wow … I mean … wow … am I the only one who played an asia grinder once? It’s awesome that you have to work hard for laurels. I like the system.

Who’s working hard for laurels? Login once a day for 20mins and you’re done. Phew worked up a sweat doing todays.

I believe the biggest problem that this laurel thing stems from is that there is no choice. Noone is wanting is easily. Noone has said that, that I can see.
Its grind it out (either direct or for coin), do stupid easy dailies and craft it. Thats it. This isn’t earning it, nor is it difficult. I’m not against putting time in or working for BiS gear. I am against being forced to mat grind so I can indulge in crafting that I loathe to do.
There’s no option to actually work for it via any other means. RNG drops in Fractals/Tequatl do not count as another viable means. Noone should have to ask why.

More corrections:

1) There’s a difference between grinding mats, and actually getting the mats to drop. T6 drop, but not as often as one would like. T5 mats and lower are a bit more common, so grind usually takes care of these. The higher tiers require both time and luck. The RNG makes it so that rare drops stay rare, thus keeping their values as they are. Powerful Blood are the most expensive on the TP, mainly because it’s both rare and in high demand. So yes, it does take effort to collect enough T6+ mats.

2) I was making the point that crafting to level 500 is an expensive task. In order to craft Ascended gear, you must be at level 500, or get luck from drops. Ultimately, Ascended crafting = not cheap.

3) Gating something = effort. If you feel that it’s not worth the time, and don’t choose to slowly gather the required Ascended mats, then you won’t be able to make the gear. Pretty simple. Make the effort, reap the rewards. I’m more than willing to craft my mats once per day in order to gear my characters. I’m in no rush to show off my Ascended armor. The stat increases that come with it won’t make me a superior player in PvE and WvW.

4) You can run dungeons and Fractals all you want. Nothing is stopping you. Dungeons are good for tokens, which you then can trade for armor or weapons. FotM gives you relics to get Ascended rings. Do some WvW for Badges, which you can then use to pick any armor setup you want. Kill Tequatl for his rare Ascended weapon chests he drops.

Ascended > Exotic, but not necessary. If you want the Ascended gear, make the effort to get it. Otherwise, stick with Exotics, and enjoy the game.

You are correcting things that aren’t wrong and worse still, you’re not even reading what I said before launching into your blind defense of a gear grind. That or you really don’t understand it because some of your responses don’t even make sense to what I was saying. You are blindly running to the defense of something from what you perceive to be an attack and making points that have nothing to do with what I am saying.

Do you just want all the stuff handed to you? If so, that’s the definition of Entitlement.

And this is the argument you are standing behind on everything here. From what I’m reading, this is not the case at all.
To be honest, it sounds more like that’s what you want as the current method of acquisition caters to this mentality.

Counter post to correct some of your errors:

1) It’s not easy, by means of the amount of Mats you need.
2) Getting to lv 500 Crafting isn’t cheap. Then on top of that, you still need to refine further to craft Ascended Mats.
3) The gates force you to put in the effort to get the BiS gear. You can’t just go out and fully gear all your characters with Ascended armor and weapons. “Time” is an investment that you need to put in before you can walk away with the gear. Be thankful it’s not locked behind RNG.

1) It is easy. Grinding the mats takes no effort. Just time. You are confusing time spent mindlessly grinding mats with something that actually takes effort.

2) I wasn’t talking about crafting, nor did I imply it. Leveling the craft is a one-time deal and one-time expense. The topic at hand has nothing to do with this, rather the actual crafting itself.

3)Time-gating does not equal effort. All it means I have to log-in and grind, see #1)
Time does not equal effort. Time spent grinding out mats and waiting behind time-gating equals boredom and screams that the developers couldn’t think of any better way to implement this gear. I’m also not saying I want to be able to outfit all my characters instantly with it either. You are making that assumption on your own.
I would be more inclined to actually get this gear if it required me to do more than play farmville. I want to earn new gear. You may like mindless grind and consider it an effort and want to defend it. I do not. I want to be able to run dungeons, fractals, events, something, anything to earn it besides a horribly long time-gated grind.
When exotic was BiS, we had options as to how we wanted to make it. With the new tier, they seem to have not put any thought into and just said “heres some new BiS gear. Go grind it or rely on RNG, we don’t really care anymore”.

Please list “where” you need ascended items to progress in the game?

Yer it’s a lot and takes quite a lot of time to make.. but as their not required for anything atm, there is no rush to get them

This is the biggest frustration. Its a carrot for the sake of being a carrot. It serves no purpose except to segregate the population between BiS and non-BiS.
Might be different if there was actually content that needed it. Or of there was some way other than to literally grind it out (no, drops do not count as a viable way to get it – anyone claiming this please let me know when you get all 6 matching pieces just by drops alone)

And you’re not understanding that Ascended gear is BiS, and isn’t meant to be gotten quickly, easily, or cheaply.

I agree. Except it is easy. Dailies and monthlies are joke to do. They don’t cost anything either.
Quickly is all thats left, and this time-gating is the dumbest thing they could do. They don’t want people to have it right on the first day, I get that. Its supposed to be hard to get, I get that.
But this is truly the best they could come up with for achieving that? Time gate it behind a lame 20min daily for weeks? If this is the best they could come up with, I weep for the future of this game.
Your argument would be valid if you actually had to do anything hard to get it. You don’t. You only have to grind and do the dailies. The only difference between GW2 BiS gear grind and any other MMO is that you can’t do it faster. They not only dangle the carrot, but put a leash on you so you can’t get it unless its on their time-table.
This is revolutionary? Ugh.

None. For many reasons. I refuse to grind them out. I don’t like the way it looks. I spent a lot of time and coin making my characters look as they do, not interested in paying yet again to move those looks to gear that we didn’t even need.
I don’t want to be build-locked. Which is what it does – why embrace or experiment with diversity when you can only have a BiS set for 1 build. On top of this, they change skills and trait way too much to bother investing in Ascended. It’s not always bad they tweak with builds so much, but its really pointless to make a BiS set of gear that could become useless the next time they class balance.
I’ll continue to make Ascended weapons as I have mats for them through normal gameplay, as I have been. But full armor sets? No thanks. The negatives far outweigh the positives, making them not at all worth it at all especially coupled with the cost of leveling those crafting professions, IMO.
I don’t want to be forced to pick a “main” to gear in BiS gear, which is basically what this does. Makes you stop saving mats for Ascended weapons for alts, and pouring everything into making 6 pieces of gear for one character. It kills the original feeling of freedom and flexibility I had with many active characters before.
If there was actually a point to it….I might consider it. If fractals even needed it, I might make a ‘fractals-only’ set for the 2 characters I run in fractals, but even now all the AR you need currently is in game now, so why bother?
If there was another option, like farming via fractal relics, or pristine relics, or something like karma, I might be more inclined. Having them as RNG drops does not count as another viable method. Good luck getting one weapon chest to drop matching your build, let alone 6 Armor ones.

To me, it’s a grind because I’ve done it before. Sure, the Necromancer was fun at first, but that basically wore off sometime between level 20 and 30. Now at level 60 it’s just the same pattern over and over again. Drop wells, focus 4, dagger, dagger, siphon blood. Rinse and repeat.

So? Thats your problem. They have many ways for you to level. Crafting still levels you, WvW, dungeons (except level restricted ones), living story.
Its your own fault you choose to do easy content, focus on it and repeat it over and over. They provide many means for you to level….you want them to hold your hand through all the different ways too? Or just flat out tell you how to do cause you can’t go into anything of your own accord?
Have some of you played any game besides this one? GW2 is stupid easy and fast to level. Should they just put a scroll in the cashshop that instantly makes you 80? Cause that really sounds like what some people want.

I have 6 level 80’s. None of them have been leveled the same way. You all must be playing a different game.

When the game offers you methods to level to max level within mere days without even trying to, it says more about the playerbase who complains about it than the game itself.

What did you people expect?
PvE people have Living Story that is good for AP’s and lame rewards. WvW season chest is the WVW equivalent of that. You get AP’s over time and get a little reward.

Personally, I have no problem with the chest. I was in WvW having fun with my server. I got AP’s and a little end of season bonus for something I was doing anyway, regardless of there being AP’s or a reward. I was going to be there even without the chest. The contents of what I got out of it were exactly what I expected them to be. I don’t know why anyone expected more.

If you hate WvW and grinded this out, then chances are you hurt your server by taking up space in the queue, not knowing what you’re doing and not even caring about the outcome. This reward was obviously not meant for you and frankly, it’s your own fault for getting involved in an activity for many hours that you hate just for some dream of being lavished with rewards for doing it. It was obviously meant for people who partake in WvW and would achieve the meta over the course of the weeks. Take it as a lesson learned.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The chest isnt ingame atm. Devs lied about it on stream. I got a fractal sword at 39.

Actually, I think this is wrong.
What the devs said on the live stream is that the chest would be available on higher level fractals. From the things I’ve heard, the chest, which is actually called the “Fractal Gear Box”, only drops in 41+ tier fractals in the boss chest. Anything lower and you always get a pre-selected skin.
I have yet to confirm this, and yet to see anyone confirm the contrary either as everyone complaining seems to be doing lower level fractals (pre-41).
If this turns out to be true, then what they said on the stream is 100% accurate, as they even said “higher level fractals”. How about waiting until its get confirmed either way before throwing the insults out there.
If it turns out you do not get the box 41+ either, then you have a legitimate reason for complaint.

Since the patch, Ive done lvls 20,24,25,26,27,28…not one ascended skin, not one ascended weapon, not one infused ring.

Ive gotten one non infused ring. I guess Im really unlucky.

You are really unlucky. I’m getting more rings now than I did before, infused ones too.
By Ascended skins, I assume you mean Fractal skins. You know its been confirmed that the higher the level you run, the higher the chance of getting one. You’re running what would be considered “low level” fractals in the 20’s, thus have a smaller chance to get one.
Ascended weapons…..well these weren’t exactly raining from the sky pre-patch. These have a very low chance of dropping, and if you’re counting on them as your sole means of getting an Ascended weapon…i wouldnt. In the time you get a drop, that matches the stat set you want, you could have farmed for and crafted several Ascended weapons.

I’m tired of seeing her. Any new plot or event that happens in living story at this point, you can just shrug and say “oh, I guess Scarlet is here with some new alliance of friends”.

So what you are saying is, a cap does not negatively effect anyone in anyway? If a majority of people are only doing the necessary 5 dailies for their laurel every single day, all this is doing is creating an even larger AP gap between those and the ones at the top. Achievement points should be awarded for completing difficult tasks and that is what should differentiate those with lots and those with less, not if they completed the optional dailies or not. When a full set of dailies (including the optional ones) award almost the same AP as Liadri hard mode(Light up the Darkness), something is wrong and this needs to be addressed. A cap would not negatively effect the majority of people who don’t go for the optional ones, but it would greatly reduce the amount of time spent doing dailies for those AP hunters. This would be a huge QoL addition for us, while reducing the huge gaps in achievement points.

Some of this just repeats what I said, in different words. The AP’s are meaningless as you said. They award time spent doing extra dailies, not any actual difficult task completed.
You assume the people doing the bare minimum for laurels care about the gap between them and the highest. If they’re not doing it, they probably don’t. I don’t care where I am on leaderboards and have never looked, because they are meaningless. PvE leaderboards are a joke at best as they stand with no real challenging content to get on the leaderboards for. And I don’t care what other people have for AP’s either. I get its enjoyable for some people to farm them, but to me it’s just a number that carries no weight to it. With a huge portion of AP’s coming from zerg-based living story temporary content too, no one close to the top now has a chance in hell of catching up.
If the AP’s awarded were all based on doing harder content, like Liadri in your example, maybe they would carry weight and matter. But they don’t.
If there was to be a cap on daily AP’s at 5………what about living story based AP’s? Once they’re gone, thats it. You’re screwed and can never get those either. May as well drag them into the mix here as well.
I get the AP’s for the chests, nothing more.

Infusions aren’t really an alternative to ascended gear since they’re still a big gold sink (or time and gold sink)

Sort of. Gold sink, no. Unless you’re running level50, you don’t need anything other than the +5 infusions. Which can be easily farmed. For running level 50, it would make more sense to buy +10 than farm them.
As a time sink, I guess you could call it that. Though you only need them in the place you farm them. If you don’t like or run fractals, there’s no need to farm them. And if you like fractals or are farming them for skins or whatever…then you get them automatically.

It’s supposed to be a long term goal. Since there is no content in the game that requires ascended gear just take your time and have fun making it. You will not be alone.

Sure the top 5% of players will probably be able to make it right off the bat, but there is no need to do it that fast.

Well, there’s fractals.

Except even fractals doesn’t need this gear currently. They are capped at level 50, and all the agony resistance/Infusion slots you need for that is currently in game. Why they stagger releases like this, I don’t know. They should, IMO, release new Ascended gears when something actually needs it, like raising the fractals cap. Not release the gear with the inclination they might raise the cap a few months from now.

Why I don’t bother with WVW.
Because winning in WVW is not a measure of skills nor tactics. It just means you have more players, more player coverage throughout the 1 week and more players who are not upscaled to lvl 80. Nothing glorious beating opponents with superior numbers/equipment/level. I rather beat my opponents with superior playing skills and tactics.

If this is a comparison between AP and WvW leaderboards, its a moot comparison. While what you say might be true about WvW….whats glorious or skill-testing about AP’s?
For the vast majority of them nothing. All it shows is how much spare time someone has and their ability to join a huge zerg during Living story. Very few of the AP’s take anything in the way of skill……..especially the dailies that this topic is about. All it takes is time. The AP system in this game is lame. They are points awarded for grind and zerg content, which involve no skill. Which is why I don’t do any more than I need to for rewards that I want (meta/laurels/etc).

If anyone feels the need to compete on the AP leaderboard, then thats an undertaking of their own choice to do every single one of the mindnumbing dailies. I would be willing to bet the majority of the population does the 5 they need for the chest and doesn’t care about the rest.
The extra dailies were not put in as a addictive grindfest for people who can’t control themselves or of Anet trying to induce an addiction to do them all. The extra dailies were put in for the average player. As options as to how they got the 5 for that chest. They could pick the activities they wanted to do for the chest and also have them count towards the LS meta if they didn’t want to do the main achieves for it.
This is why there’s so many options. Key word being options. As in not mandatory for anything except 1 AP.

I hate to ruin (pun intended) your day, but you seem out of the loop to what is coming and we are not in cosmetic Kansas anymore.

-all legendary gear will have ascended stats and you will be able to change those stats out of combat.

-you are and will be able to continue to buy all higher stat legendaries on the market.

-the devs are in the process of making it easier to obtain precursors and legendaries, so it will lower the prices on the market and make purchasing bis gear a more attractive option than grinding for them.

-eventually you will see players just buying the best gear when they hit max level. so yes, you will be able to dump huge amounts of real money into this game to instantly have better stats than most players. yes, this is intentional. yes, they want your money. yes, there will be a pay 2 have the highest stats option because it generates profit for anet.

-there will be level increases and higher stat gear introduced in the future so this money making cycle will continue.

Doesn’t ruin my day. Because you’re still wrong. You obviously don’t understand a P2W system and have never played one, because this is truly grasping to label GW2 as P2W for whatever reason or motive.
If you buy a legendary now and I farm ascended…what do you have that I don’t? A flashy skin and a convenience of stat swapping. Thats it. And you cut a little bit of time off the actual aquisition of it. You haven’t paid to win. You have paid for convenience. That legendary isn’t going to outperform anything I can farm in game at a substantially less cost. It isn’t going to turn the tide on any fight or win you anything more.
You don’t understand the concept of a truly cashshop dependant gearing system. You would be right if Legendary offered lets say a 100%+ boost in all stats and dmg over ascended and there was no way to farm an equivalent in game. But it doesn’t. Legendary gives you nothing game changing over anything farmable in game. Its gives you flashiness and convenience. Also known as fluff.
Try playing a P2W game and trying to compete in it, then see how you feel about Anets cashshop.

Not actually true:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Strength_Booster
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armor_Booster
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Speed_Booster

You can most certainly use the gemstore to gain a 10% armor boost, a 5% damage boost and a 15% run speed boost over other players who don’t use the gem store.

Pay money -> get boosters -> go to WvW -> beat players without boosters -> win

P2W, no semantics needed, just money and crushing your opponents. sPvP does remain free of P2W however.

And this, well I hope you were joking. Cause if you’re reaching this far into trying to label GW2 as P2W, I have no idea what your motives of blindly wanting to label it as such would even be.

You can exchange gems for gold and buy a full exotic set.

You’re really reaching. Considering you can farm out a full exotic set in a matter of days, less depending on your playing habits, and the person that outright bought it will still have no stat advantage over you.
I have a feeling many of you claiming the P2W scenario have never played a P2W MMO.
One where the highest tier gear is only available in the cashshop and its stat increases are hugely significant over anything that can be earned in game. And this gear costs hundreds, in some cases thousands of dollars (USD). That’s P2W. And its not an exaggeration. Look at games published by PWE. Their flagship game has the highest tier endgame gear direct in the cashshop as its only method of acquisition. This gear is hugely more powerful than what’s farmable in game. And it costs somewhere around $1200USD to buy it. Plus the method to ‘refine’ this gear to even higher and more devastating stats is also only in the cashshop and costs hundreds more to max refine. You can then take this gear and smash anyones face in PvP and steamroll any PvE when any player not able to charge would struggle or fall to being one-shot in PvP everytime they encounter a cashshop player.
You dump huge amounts of real money into a game to instantly be better than anyone who cannot charge and have a massive stat advantage over them, that they can never achieve in the game itself.
There is nothing in GW2 that falls into P2W. Cosmetics are not winning anything. Conveniences are not winning anything.

With the game revolving around cosmetics and not armor its self adding these items to the Gem store in such large quantity’s essential makes the game P2W. This is almost the equivalent of a standard MMO adding top tier armor that can only be obtained thought differentiate content to there in game store.

fail logic is fail.

I got my main character a combination of armor skin that i currently like the most. A WvW coat bought with badges, beginners legs and CM dungeon boots bought with tokens. Is this expensive? no.

But according to your logic, i won the game by getting the best i could get for my tastes and it didnt cost me anything.

What the OP was trying to say is, since gw2 is revolved around cosmetic items as end game and end game items are pretty much bought with real money (given the gold to gem conversion rate) it is essentially P2W from a cosmetic perspective. Did that help you understand what he was trying to say more?

To further add, the very existence of gem to gold conversion makes this game P2W if y ou look at it from a cosmetic perspective.

You guys are arguing semantics just to be able to use the term P2W. There is nothing to argue. P2W means you pay money to win. Its a self-explanatory term. You pay money for an advantage over other people. Noone can gain any stat advantage over anyone else via the gemstore. End of story.
Noone buying fashion, skins, backpacks, overly flashy mining picks, fancy finishers or anything from the gemstore has any advantage over you. Prettiness is not a competition in this game. There is no ranking for it, there is no advantage to being prettier. The term pay to win does not apply. Play an actual P2W game and then argue using the term here.

Whatever you guys are saying about a prettiness factor being a ‘win scenario’ needs some new term applied to it. Because you’re paying to be pretty, not to win.

No, nowhere near.
However, I don’t think the amounts is even the point of comparison. A subscription based games creates a feeling of obligation. That I’m paying for something monthly, so I should use it to make sure I get my monies worth.
Even if I spent more than a subscription on a free-to-play game, there’s no sense of obligation. I’m free to buy whatever luxuries when or if I want, or the opposite is true if I don’t want to spend a dime on it, and regardless of which I do, the game is always there for me to play with no regard to what I have and havent spent. Whereas a subscription you are being forced to pay each and every month just to have access to play.

Gold may be "easy " to come by but, it certainly isn’t plentiful enough to cover all my alts and desires. I do not have a single legendary, nor ever had a precursor drop, or even a really great dye. The best drop has been one I just received yesterday, it was white dye. That’s after 4k hours of play!

So I’m stuck just trying to keep up with the cost of virtual living with a family of 11 alts to feed and cloth

I am like you I have been playing since the betas and I have 4 80’s and 3 more on the way.

I have never had more than 30 gold at a time yet I have been able to gear my characters the way I like -just yesterday I had a white dye drop too and today I had an exo drop that I could sell for 9g- which was great because I just dropped 35 g on gearing a new 80 and only had 10 g to my name
.
I would love more gold- but I don’t farm, don’t do dungeons- so I am stuck with earning money as I play.

It is fine for me mostly- but now I am obsessed with getting Eye of Rotgort for my necro (the new 80) and I am 490 t6 bloods short -.-

I have 6 characters and the more I have, the easier and cheaper it is to gear them at 80. Can I ask what you do with all those characters? Why don’t they have enough gold, dungeon tokens, karma or WvW badges to gear them at 80? Personally, between Karma and WvW badges, I’m pretty sure I’m set to gear up at least a few more characters…leaving my golds only purpose to buy skins I like for that gear.

It seems to me only those that post here hate scarlet as everyone I talk to in TC likes what Anet is doing, even a few GW 1 vets. I like scarlet over but she does need an end. So you are all in fact the minority in this game, or these threads will have new faces as I’m seeing the same exact people complaining.

Human-centric only lore was GW 1 and kinda boring (and I liked GW 1 lore). But I wanted to know about everyone else way back in GW 1. All the sentient enemies seemed mindless when now we know they are not (charr/hylek/djinn/etc). Also the dragons are even more boring than Scarlet. If I were to act like the negative side of the forums right now, I’d make threads against any more dragons.

People to me that hate scarlet sound like they hate all lore that isn’t about humans or the gods or anything from GW 1 that frankly (besides Cantha) is all about humans. If I want to know more about humans, I can just read a book on world history or look at human anatomy books. If you “the majority” hate the game and Scarlet so much, just leave now! We don’t need your negativity in the game or Lions Arch especially on
Tarnished Coast.

GW 1 lore was great, but its done. Get over it. If you missed the GW 1 lore, play the old game or read wiki for a few hours.

I have other reasons to hate the game and Scarlet is not one of them.

This is about as Anti-productive as you can get. Who said anything about humans? Or GW1? I never played GW1. I’ve already said doesn’t even have to be the dragons. Seems you’re making a blind post without reading anything else.
So a large portion of the population is either actively vocal against Scarlet and this story or indifferent to it…..so you just want everyone to leave who doesn’t like it?
Thats the point of what I have been saying. People who are indifferent and dont care are going to start leaving because Scarlet is bringing nothing to the table except AP points every couple weeks and a new zerg spot.
If Anet is going by the numbers of people who are doing the LS, those numbers dont represent that people actually like it.
Noone said everyone hates it or is indifferent. But all servers I have been on, pug’s ive been in, maps i’ve been on, all carry the general same tiredness of this Scarlet story. I have yet to see anyone overjoyed or even slightly happy when she reappears week after week.
The living story should invoke feelings towards it like wanting to be involved, wanting to see it progress, wondering where its going, sparking discussion about it. Its not doing any of these things right now for a large portion of the playerbase. It is an AP farm. Some people are so indifferent to Scarlet they dont even know whats going on anymore and dont care to find out. Get the AP’s and get out and back to something that carries more meaning or fun.
No, not everyone hates it. Probably not the majority. I admit that. I also know the majority don’t like her either. If this were anywhere near the case, we would see that in discussions and chats. I have yet to. The majority are falling into the ‘tired of it already and I dont care about it’ category. Which is a shame, because the living story could be something good.

The only time I saw the Living Story invoke such a thing was during the election. People really got into that and there was noticeable discussion, debates and involvement from the playerbase. People were talking about it across all maps, some vigorously campaigning for their chosen candidate. While I wasn’t into the election that much myself, this is the kind of thing the Living Story should bring to the game. Scarlet has never done that or had that kind of involvement. As I said, the only people I’ve seen like it are you few on these forums. I have never seen it in game.
I’m not saying we should have elections all the time, but thats just an example of a time when you know people are into it.

Being indifferent != hating though.
I have seen quite a bit of indifference, but that doesn’t mean those people actually dislike her, they simply accept that she is there.

Indifference isn’t hating her. Its also not good for whats supposed to be the life-blood of this game if you go by what Anet says. The living story is supposed to be fuelling the game, keeping it fresh. Indifference and not caring about it, like doing it just for the AP’s and not caring about the story itself is still not liking Scarlet and not good for the game.
Indifference is worse than dislike and wanting her removed. She doesn’t even warrant the attention of those people. Is that what the Living World is supposed to be? No, its supposed to be drawing people in and keeping interest and generating interest from new players.
Indifference is hardly a claim that Scarlet is wanted and it should continue. People who are actively against this weak character and people who are indifferent outweigh the ones who might actually like her – which I have yet to see in game when a new Living Story comes with her in it.

They had the story ideas written before the voting was done, they even confirmed that.

What makes you think she would have been in the Abaddon Fractal if that one have won?
Maybe it just worked in their favor that they had the chance to use the Reactor Fractal in order to explain more of Scarlets backstory?

People need to keep in mind that this story was most likely already written MONTHS ago.
Are you suggesting they just throw it all in the garbage because a couple of people using the forums seems to dislike her?
It would be even worse to simply end it for the sake of ending it instead of following the plan they have laid out.

I think in this case the estimate of a ‘couple people’ not liking her is greatly understating it. While in some instances, the decisions and updates they’ve made have had mixed responses with people on either side of the fence, this one seems far more in the majority in getting rid of this character and this story.
I, for one, would rather see her just dropped, yes. Scarlet and the whole story of these Skeletor, Shredder, GI Joe bad guy alliances is so bad I don’t even care how it supposed to end. Dragons aside as the Vayne has pointed out in another topic is/has been done in other games, books, movies and some people are tired of that. Even without the Dragons, there’s a lot of other lore in the Guild Wars history that could have been expanded and brought to life through Living World. Why invent a rehash of 80’s cartoon bad guy alliances led by a weak character rather than explore the lore and history thats already established and also looks much more interesting?
I realize it was probably written months ago, however the Reactor thing could not have been that old. That hinged on our votes. Did they also write her into the Abaddon story just in case we voted for that? I highly doubt it. I also highly doubt she was part of the backstory of the reactor up until the possibility of the fractal.

Where are they getting the feedback that anyone likes this weak character? She’s being put into everything like she’s popular and people want her everywhere. I don’t even follow the so-called Living Story because of how weak the characters and story are, now she’s in Fractals and involved in the Reactor? I haven’t even played through the story-mode of the reactor and now I doubt I ever will. In this case I am glad for spoilers, because I am glad I didn’t waste my time seeing cabbagehead put into the history of a major event where she didn’t need to be.
At this point I don’t even want to see her die or even finish her story, Scarlets not worth even that. I just want her dropped and forgotten. Now.
Of all the lore this game has in backstory, why they are focusing on a disgruntled tree that noone seems to like is well beyond me.

This is the most archaic, stupid system they have in this game.
Last night, in fractals at the 3rd one, instance starter decides to leave mid-boss fight. No reason, fight was going well. He just said he had to go and left. The 4 of us were all booted out. This is a game-breaking mechanic. Its happened to me so many times now that I’m on the fence about just uninstalling the game until they fix this. As someone who enjoys dungeons, this issue breaks them.
I shouldn’t have to always start my own instances when there’s one in the LFG already almost full. I shouldn’t have to worry about joining said groups for fear of a huge waste of my time at the whim of the leader going offline on a whim or going AFK when he’s needed to progress (this has happened in also fractals, when all need to press okay to proceed – we sat for 20mins waiting and finally risked kicking him. We all got booted. )

No. I can confirm. You will have the same AR you had before update. Anything that had inherent AR is now in the new slot.
For example An infused ring before was :

-Infusion slot, Agony Resist +5

Now, post -patch the same ring has this :
-New Agony Infusion slot, Agony Resist +5
-Same old Infusion Slot, Agony Resist +5

This is not a hate topic on skins being in the cashshop. RNG aside, I think Anet has one of the better cashshop systems in a b2p/f2p MMO.
My problem with the skins is that they are complete sets. None of my characters wear complete sets of anything, they are all mix and match. I wonder if they would ever split the skins up and let us buy individual pieces? Even at a higher cost for the individual piece?

One complete set is 800gems, for example. Each piece being 133gems each. Maybe sell each piece for 150 gems? Complete set would end up being a ‘discount’.
There are various pieces from different sets I would buy if offered individually. As of now, its not worth it for me to drop 800gems when I only want 1 or 2 of the 6.

You must have missed my post about the attitudes of the people who want it. Even in games where you have it turned off, people will challenge you to a duel and if you don’t respond (because it’s turned off), they start calling you out in map chat. They talk to you. And sure you can block and report them, but why should I have to. How does that positively help my experience.

Once again, Anet has created, every diliberately, a game where PvE and PvP are separate. It was a design decision.

You know that some kid somewhere, if you refuse to duel him, will follow you around using emotes to gesture. And you know, that wouldn’t bother me too much, but it would sure bother some people.

There are too many people like that for me to say it wouldn’t affect another person’s gameplay.

So like every other MMO, a few bad seeds and a bad experience for some dictate the separated, disjointed, anti-social systems implemented. People can and will talk to you, call you out in map, common and whisper chats with or without duels. Stand in the wrong place during a boss fight, people will call you out. Die too many times, people will call you out. Have mis-matched colors on your armor, people will call you out. Why don’t we put up walls between every player so they don’t see each other at all. You might call these examples extreme and not common. About as uncommon as the people who go to the trouble of stalking someone who refused a duel. These people are as few as the others who call out every other thing in map chat now. You have seen things happen one way in another MMO. So thats automatically right and stands forever? I’ve seen it the other way. A duelling system implemented in a PvE open world that resulted in little of what you say. The result was people having fun, duelling each other, duelling out try out skills, builds and techniques. Duelling to fill time waiting for an event or dungeon. But the way I’ve (and probably others) have seen it is outright dismissed. Forget the possibility that the good could outweigh the bad.
I admit there’d be some kitten who would do what you are saying. I’m also more realistic in believing the majority of the playerbase would not be that way. The people you describe would be in a small minority. So a whole system gets made and/or dismissed based around these few kittens?

If it were an optional thing, where you could turn it off so people could not even send you a duel request, thus saving you the trouble of even refusing it, how exactly would it affect or grief anyone who didn’t want to?
I’m not saying turn on open world PvP for everyone, because I agree with everyone opposed to it in that sense. The PvE world should be free to only PvE should that be what the player wants. I fail to see how an optional thing would affect or force anyone into anything or warrant quitting when you could tick the option to ‘off’.
This would be better than designated areas. So if some people are waiting for Tequatl and they want to duel while on that map to pass time, they are free to do so…without affecting anyone else on the map. Tequatl is just an example. People could and I can guarantee would use this all over the place. Unless you are horrendously mortified to see people somewhere on your screen duelling in the distance, whats the problem?

OP, please try not to talk for the entire community, because you can’t. Whenever this subject is brought up, and it has been brought up frequently, most of the responses to threads are against open world dueling.

Not to say the forums are necessarily indicative of the majority, but it sure seems like a whole lot of people in this community are vocal opponents of open world dueling.

I wouldn’t mind dueling myself in designated areas, but not anywhere.

Why would it have to affect the entire community?
Duelling anywhere in the open world can be exclusive to those who want to do it. I run into you in open world PvE. I sent you a duel request. You accept. Timer flashes on screen : 3, 2, 1, Fight! We duel until someone is out of HP. Duel ends, fun was had.
In the other scenario, I run into you, send you duel request, you decline. And thats the end of it. You’re not forced into duelling. Your open world experience isn’t forcibly PvP.
I have played MMO’s with this duel-on-request feature. It’s a great system that allows duelling anywhere and its only for fun. Noone actually dies, the duel just ends with a declared winner when someones HP runs out.
This system would affect people out in the PvE open world very little as they can actively choose to not partake.
