I have used this site to change my password every time.
I’ve had this account since GW2 was in beta and had never had an issue up until about 2 weeks ago. Someone hacked in to my account and got me banned.
I got the account restored and since then I’ve been constantly having to change my password because hackers are somehow still getting in to my account.
I’ve got a support ticket in to change my email address right now in hoping that fixes the problem.
It seems as if my wife is heading down this road also. We got the account back and restored but then very shortly after we got an email simply stating the email on the account had been changed. Our secure email was never compromised because it requires mobile authentication, the hackers were just able to send a request in to have email address changed and somehow it resulted in being locked out of the account once again.
~Dr. Seuss
There’s a program I use called Bluestacks that runs android apps from my desktop, I recently used it to add the 2 step mobile app security and Anet authenticated it just fine.
If the option existed to only allow logins from IP’s within the US I would gladly use it as an extra security measure, but i have a feeling they would just find a way to bounce off a us based IP to launch their attacks.
Would still be nice though:

I’m sorry… I have been following this forum the last few weeks and I do wonder if the GW2 email list got compromised. The number of hacked posts here has been the most I have seen since I started playing over a year ago. I wonder how these hackers targeting GW2 accounts happened to find GW2 player’s emails out of the several hundred million emails out there. I mean if you are going to hack GW2 accounts you need to have a email list. I don’t think GW2 hackers just targeted every email on the internet in hope of getting a positive.
Your log in ID is your email address also, not sure if there’s a way they capture it by entering the actual account name i.e. player.1234 (not real) but one disturbing thing I found is that If I type my player.1234 (not real) but don’t enter my password at the login screen it will autofill my email address in place of the account name and ask me to try again.
Not sure if this is because it’s a trusted machine or if it’s just how the launcher works though.
~Dr. Seuss
Was kinda hoping there was a way to remove the trusted computers from your account and start fresh now that I have the 2nd layer installed. If someone else had gained access to the account they would also not be required to verify the second step.
Seems to me that it would be a good idea to have this reset every time a password is changed or security feature is modified.
Another location won’t work because resetting my IP did not work. I live in a remote area so another PC is about a 100 mile round trip for me.
~Dr. Seuss
Tried that, it doesnt lol. I’m pretty stumped because at least before I could see that there was a working second step on my account.
~Dr. Seuss
How do I test that it’s working when I install it? It doesn’t prompt me for a code when I log in. I’m assuming because I already told it to trust this computer.
~Dr. Seuss
I linked a mobile app authenticator to my account but since my local machine is “trusted” it won’t prompt me to enter any code as a second step. When i deactiavte the mobile app there is no option to revert back to email verification.
Anyone have any ideas?

Wife was hacked … still waiting and can’t post in forums.
~Dr. Seuss
I would love to enable the authentication app on my text or PC, unfortunately my cell is not a smartphone so im stuck with email verification.
I use the keychain dongle for several other games and those have proven to be extremely reliable, too bad Anet doesn’t offer that option
~Dr. Seuss
In the process of looking into a more secure email now, but i’m not really sure I trust any of them now because if they want your information they’re probably going to get it.
None of the email services i’ve looked at seem to have better than the 2 step but if you’re aware of one please let me know.
~Dr. Seuss
If you’re logging in from the same computer and you clicked the box to indicate you regularly log in from that machine you generally wont get the requirement to authenticate every time.
~Dr. Seuss
I think the statistic is something like 95% of hacked accounts are from a player getting their email hacked. In my case they got access to my email and deleted my original game reciept after they used it to link the 2 step verification tot heir mobile app. I ran option to recover the deleted emails and found my original serial number along with a couple authentication attempts.
I also checked my account activity and found several login attempts from varying Asian countries going back over a month. It is possible they have access to an email account without the owner knowing it for a long time as long as they cover their steps.
~Dr. Seuss
At least for me i have the option in Hotmail to recover deleted messages, saved my backside in my case.
~Dr. Seuss
They most likely have his email account also, I strongly suggest he goes into his deleted folder in his email and runs a recovery to see if they deleted his serial key or any unsuccessful log in attempts. Your not going to be able to shut them out of the account until you regain control of the email associated with it.
Edit: it can be several days til they restore an account depending on the investigation, but their primary way to communicate with you in via the email.
~Dr. Seuss
My wife’s Hotmail account was recently hacked and the people who got into it were able to clean out all of her gold and items in a matter of minutes. If we would have known that Hotmail and many other email services offer 2 step verification to secure your account we would have had it enabled.
We do now.
For those of you who say “This couldn’t happen to me” you are wrong. I was in the process of smugly trolling my wife about getting hacked and she suggested I check my personal email. Hotmail offers the ability to see how many log in attempts were made in the last 30 days and to my shock I had over 40 attempts from China and Vietnam (pic attached)
Take the time to secure your email account now and also DO NOT keep your serial number on the same email account as you have registered to your account. This is like leaving a signed title to your car in the glove box!
~Dr. Seuss
My wife and I play together and 2 days ago her account was hacked. Her account was stripped of all sellable items and her gold was stolen. She has over 11k AP on the account and was left with 7 naked charaters. She submitted a ticket immediately and changed her email passwords and added 2 step verification.
This morning she tried to log into the game to see if they had done any restoration and got a message that it was banned for botting and spamming. How is this a resolution ?
Account active since 8/2012 and never had any disciplinary actions reports that it’s been hacked and the response is to ban the account? And not even a courtesy email in response to her ticket saying that this (Quote) “Final” action was taken?
We’re retired and decided to make GW2 a regular part of our recreational budget, I recently left EQ2 to play full time here. At this point i am seriously regretting that decision.
~Dr. Seuss
Nerf = Bad, however I would like to see rewards for defending equal to those of steamrolling. The only way players are going to move to WvW en masse is if the rewards are the same or better as EotM. As it stands now it better serves as a filter for uplevels so we get more 80’s fighting for our (MEGA)servers.
~Dr. Seuss
It could be the letter combination d – e – r – f, which alludes to some behavior that is against chatting about in the ToS.
If this were the case “wonderful” would also be not allowed.
~Dr. Seuss
A family member got hacked this morning and after reading forums for several hours the one common thing most hacked accounts have is Hotmail. We took the steps today to add a 2 step authentication on out Hotmail accounts but unfortunately GW2 doesn’t offer a 2 step process unless you have a phone capable of using one of their select mobile apps. (Anyone saying that Google PC app can should try it, it’s impossible to link to from the account screen)
The only thing I can’t figure out is how the hacker was able to determine the email address was associated with a GW2 account because once they got into the Hotmail account they moved almost instantly to the GW2 information (The pass was a 9 digit RNG generated alphanumeric different for both GW2 and Hotmail). I ran a recovery on Hotmail to see how many times they had hidden their login attempts and there was one.
It makes sense to me that hackers are now somehow able to get the email addresses of higher AP players and target them since i’m seeing a rise in posts from people with 10k+ AP.
It makes no sense that some random email hacker lucked into the PW in Hotmail and just immediately went to archives to remove a receipt from 8/2012 giving the serial number to a game they happened to have loaded on a machine.
It’s more likely that they have some form of hacker bulletin board out there where posts are made looking for access to email accounts with game serial codes. Either way the evidence points more towards my first theory that they have a way to find your email address simply by encountering you in game.

Gonna be a boring weekend waiting til monday or tuesday to make my ascended set, got a ton of dragonite and empryeal but no obsid to refine em.

Hmmm, Maybe its just me, but I’ve never seen it…
Go to rally waypoint and head due north for about 100m and you’ll see 7 pact members filing their nails with an event tag over their heads.
~Dr. Seuss
Is the event stuck?
Yes, the Northern pact is bugged just before it reached Rally waypoint and won’t move for 10+ hours.
~Dr. Seuss
Lyssa was down on JQ for over a week with a similar bug, i’m hoping that isn’t the case here.

[quote=4000729;CaptnRio.2705: the QD Train is a bad thing is because it is in a starting area..<SNIP>I can only imagine what this would be like to a player who logged on their first day and received this sort of abuse.[/quote]
I’ve had 2 friends try the game and decide NOT to continue because of this exact issue. Elitist trolls running around like a tidal wave with no respect for the events new players are doing. Trains can be fun, but not in starting areas imo.
~Dr. Seuss
This is annoying to say the least, it’s also the only source of obsidian shards for karma since megaserver started so please don’t ruin the weekend for a lot of players by ignoring this. Northern invasion is just stuck and had been sitting there for 10 hours now.
~Dr. Seuss
Gewd you’re getting trolled, don’t feed them or they’ll never go away.
~Dr. Seuss
Do you have a rough idea of when it will be fixed?
Time is relevant to how much we care, as long as it remains down we will miss it and ask for it’s return but once it’s back up we will probably forget it was even down.
Just pretend it’s back up but you don’t want to use it right now

Unfortunately the one thing missing from most of these posts about how horrible the Mega is for the players is the fact that Anet has absolutley zero motivation to switch it back.
The change was not made because they wanted to improve player’s experiences, it’s was made because it reduces costs and improves their bottom line. Take UA as a prime example of the direction that Anet is heading in, the customer’s concerns are secondary to profits. And UA has maintained a large profit margin even though 90% of it’s player base is disgusted with a lot of it’s actions.
Until we can appeal to that bottom line as motivation to get rid of this change it’s going to stay the same. Unfortunately i don’t know how that’s going to happen but I can definitely say that posting “I don’t like it” doesn’t even register on their priority list.
I like this game and many parts of it are still fun. But the megaserver trend plaguing MMO’s nowdays has come here to stay and we would probably do best to “roll with the punches” so to speak.
~Dr. Seuss
EVERY time i leave EotM and zoen back into Gendarran Field my game is extremely laggy and my FPS drops to between 6 and 8. I’m running a Superclocked GTX 770 so I know the issue isn’t hardware based and I have all of the latest drivers.
~Dr. Seuss
(I don’t feel like listening to a bunch of 16 year old boys scream about their genitals)
This is the reason I left EQ2 and came to GW2 4 months ago, now it’s an epidemic of adolescent spammers at every WB. There’s nothing that can be done about it except strict moderation and prompt response to player report.
In the scheme of things i think from a business perspective it’s less costly to lose some offended players than it is to devote manpower towards enforcement and then ultimately lose the banned players who commit the act.
But i would like to see an Anet representative to go spend a while in vigil keep and witness the lengths that some of these trolls go to in order to disrupt other players, even to the extent of only using emotes. Is this the game you had envisioned when you decided that megaservers was the best trend to follow?
~Dr. Seuss
Death good, Return die!
~Dr. Seuss
The Orr events and temples are not represented in this change. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal except for the fact that every time I tried to get into a Balthazar run today I would zone into Straits of devastation and the event would already be over. I’m guessing that what is happening is as people drop from the full zone that just finished, newcomers are added to it to fill it back up.
SoM and CS aren’t on the megaserver list yet but I have a feeling this is going to be a much bigger issue once they are added.
As for punching a time clock for the other megas I guess it’s what’s best for the population as a whole, unfortunately I will miss Teq and Karka every day except for weekends unless I want to wake up at 4:30am.
~Dr. Seuss
My wife wasn’t having the issue so I asked her to log into a toon i the Grove. Now she’s having the same problem.
~Dr. Seuss
Was under the impression Alienmuppet was OP
I saw it in general and logged in, by the time i get back to general it was gone
~Dr. Seuss
Took them 2 minutes to move this topic from general discussion to game bugs where it’s neatly tucked away. I’m having the same issue and i’m betting they know about it based on the quick move.
~Dr. Seuss
From what I’ve seen so far there’s a lot of suggestions like this one (which i agree with) which would improve the players game experience and even though they have a large majority of the support by the players they are ignored by the developers.
I honestly don’t think this game is ready to start listening to it’s player base as a whole and make game changes accordingly. The chances are more likely that it will be inserted into a large update as an original idea in a modified form.
~Dr. Seuss
Please look into Lyssa, the song is broken and cannot be completed so the event ends at that point after many frustrating attempts.
This has been broken since last Thursday that I know of.
~Dr. Seuss
I bought my account pre-release but stopped playing until about 2 months ago because of RL issues. Now that i have a chance to play again i’m finding this game to be amazing both in content and design.
Thanks to the Loins Arch invasion and a few booster gifts that came in the mail i have been able to reach level 80 and am working kitten my Ascended armor as well as map completion. Doing the daily events for Dragonite and Bloodstone is a big part of that and the events that provide them are a lot of fun.
My question is about the events that hardly anyone ever does i.e. Eye of Zaitan, Three-Headed Worm, Taidha Covington and a few others seem to be avoided like the plague by most players for some reason. I’m told by guildies the reason some are avoided are things like high failure rate, takes too long or in the case of the Three-Headed Worm it was just a poorly designed fight requiring very high coordination and a lot of people.
Are these events ever reviewed by the team in charge of content to give players an incentive that would be equal to the challenge? Or possibly a slight modification to the fight itself?
One last question I have is specifically regarding The Risen Priest of Lyssa. As of today it has been bugged for over 48 hours where we cannot capture the last song on JQ. Is there an outlet we can use to request a reset of the event in cases like this so we’re not missing out on the fight for a few days?
~Dr. Seuss
Thanks for the link, I know where they were before the change to LA. The problem is that none of the aquatic life survived the invasion and was wondering if anyone has seen them elsewhere.
~Dr. Seuss
It would seem that the Armorfish in Lion’s Arch has been killed off by the Miasma. Since it can’t be found as a juvenile anywhere else in Tyria it’s no longer a tamable pet for Rangers
Has anyone else seen them raising their young in other parts of the world by chance?

Knights aren't dropping loot [Resolved]
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Muusic.2967
I’ve been playing this game after 7 years of EQ2 and considering switching to it as my main game. This loot bug/rule/mechanic (whatever ya want to call it) is my biggest issue with the game. I have put in big numbers on these Knights and many times I was hitting them as early as their “immune” status broke off.
The last 3 runs into the zone i was there for the start on the first and was at the next 2 knights from at least 90% down and only got kharma and silver.
It’s probably an old issue with this loot and im most likely just complaining about something that has been an accepted problem in the game for a while, but as a new player considering leaving another MMO to make a fresh start in GW2 it’s a deal breaker.
My 2 cents
~Dr. Seuss
As noted above, the primary fix is in the 9/24 update, which isn’t out yet. (Typically, new builds go out around midnight PST.) There’s also some fixes in the 10/1 update to catch an endge case where it’s possible to complete the story objectives out of order.
Still not fixed, South gate bugged out 5 times in a row today.
~Dr. Seuss
12 pages of problems with this part of the story line with a HUGE amount of players stuck on this step should be an indicator that there is a problem with this. My wife has done this part over 7 times now and it keeps bugging out on the part to protect Traherne at the south gate.
~Dr. Seuss
How do you report a guild for spamming? Other than submitting a ticket and getting a form response back in a week i haven’t seen the option.
~Dr. Seuss
Decline it about 80% of the time, now i just ignore it. I just wish there was an option to decline all invites so these spammers couldn’t do it.
~Dr. Seuss
Is there a way that you can block a guild that spams you for invites several times an hour? Moon Gaze on Sea of Sorrows spams me about 10 times a day and also has something enabled to where i am auto invited every time I log in and it’s really getting annoying.
~Dr. Seuss
