I should mention, the only end game content in this game is trolling….
This had me laughing for about 20 minutes, so true it is rofl. The effect someone else has on you is measured by how much you allow it to. Human nature cannot be policed and unfortunately we live in a society of unparented, self-entitled children whose only sense of worth is how much they effect others in any way possible.
These are the same kids who tease their older brother until he kicks the crap out of them in order to get any kind of attention at home.

You do get spirit shards now. Also, you can’t make Legendary’s without it – you need the Gift item.
You do not get Spirit Shards for XP in any way, period.
~Dr. Seuss
I don’t know how often I leveled a higher-level character 3 times in a daily play session.
Considering you’re one of the few players I follow in game I can honestly say that you will benefit considering your low amount of play time.
Recently I crafted a legendary weapon and it cost me roughly 350 skill points to do it. I earned those skill points by doing map completion on my toon and now as it stands if I want to make another legendary I will have to either wait 100+ days OR rerun boring farm events. I would much rather earn them doing personal story, living world, dungeon or map completion. Maybe even while i’m doing WvW or Eotm. Legendary weapons are just one example for the use of Mystic Forge items, there’s augur stones and many other things.
The game continues to dole out XP in bright yellow letters as if something is being earned and the xp bar continues to roll over with nothing to show for it. Even allowing 1 AP point per rollover would be nice at this point up to a limit but zero reward is a slap in the face.
~Dr. Seuss
You also get far more than just xp by doing map completion. So it also depend on if you consider the other stuff a waste too.
You’re missing the point i think. Prior to the change we received a reward for gaining xp past the level bar, now we get nothing. The reward we got before was used to buy items from the mystic forge vendor as well as adding skills.
I can live with the fact that skills no longer exist as something we can purchase with xp but why did they add the spirit shard component to replace the mystic forge currency and then not allow us to gain them as we did before?
They’re very eager to sell us potions, bonfires and even give us xp potions as one of the daily login rewards which effectively multiplies times zero for level 80 toons.
I wish the general consensus posted in these forums instead of the vocal minority because every person I have pointed this out to in game is upset about it.
~Dr. Seuss
I’ve tracked my rare salvages since the start of the game.
Nice numbers, but i’m calling BS on them. No one is that meticulous unless they are using a 3rd party program and I doubt such a program existed at launch.
~Dr. Seuss
Adding Google authenticator to my android to secure my account was the best move i have made. My laptop has been stolen once and my email was hijacked twice but they never got past the authenticator.
I cannot recommend enough that you get it PLUS make sure that there is no copy of your serial key in your email folders or anywhere on a mobile device.
~Dr. Seuss
If the salvage rate was altered in any way, I’m very sure that there’d be more posts than just OP’s post right now.
Amongst 4 or 5 others that quickly find their way to page 3 of the forums. After years of playing the players who salvage dozens of yellows per day can tell when a change has happened. It’ not tinfoil hat theory or Rnghtmares to realize something isn’t right but of course there’s always the same group of spokesmen who jump onto these threads and claim it is.

You won’t be able to get mastery xp for HoT masteries by core map completion even in the future, so you are not losing anything here.
I would like to know what your source is for this information because i have been watching the HoT news like a hawk and haven’t seen this before.
Even if this is the case, a large number of players that I know of use map completion to build up the former skill points as well as the other rewards. The early implementation of the new hero point mechanic nullifies any xp gained by doing map completion as well as personal story and living world content that is not repeatable. It’s depressing to think Anet would do this without having some kind of retroactive rewards for the lost skill points that would have been earned.
~Dr. Seuss
Didn’t they say you’d get Mastery Points for map completion if you’re already done with it? I could have sworn they have.
They said we would get hero points for the skill challenges we have completed which has already happened. I didn’t hear anything about bonus Mastery for map completion.
Also, I know there are a lot of repeatable events that grant xp and i’m sure xp will be easy to get once HoT comes out, it just would seem like a slap in the face if those of us who choose to do Map on all of our toons get penalized for continuing our playstyle between now and the release date.
~Dr. Seuss
Considering once a character hits level 80 the xp they earn is wasted (until HoT comes out) is it a waste to do map completion right now?
It seems to me that anyone doing a heart or discovering a poi/vista is wasting xp that can be used to gain mastery points after HoT is released. If there were some reward for doing it now like spirit shards or hero points i could see the point in doing them but as it stands (unless i’m wrong) it’s a waste of future resources.
Now that it’s been so long since they took away our rewards for xp I don’t even see a resolution so i’m hoping there is something I am missing.
~Dr. Seuss
Absolutely hilarious…..
I hope they leave this in for a while just for the fun of it. Seeing 75% of the WvW zerg playing grenedes is enough to make anyone laugh!
~Dr. Seuss
Please Anet, the rush is over at the new glob slots and it’s pretty frustrating getting a 1 glob of ectoplasm per 1:7 rares salvaged when it used to be 4:5 using mystic kits. Can we get the salvage rate raised up a little please?
It’s so bad right now that the prices of selling rare armor have dropped because it’s pointless to try.
Inb4 Shills posting nothing has changed~

For me it’s definetely Ricochet. I know Pistol/Pistol wasn’t strong or anything but Ricochet sure made it fun for me.

Also can we get a “/nance” command added for those of us who take dancing to the next level!
~Dr. Seuss
Until then, the XP bar (and any rewards it used to bestow) is in flux.
In other words, we’re fluxxed til HoT
~Dr. Seuss
Called it!
The title of this thread is correct, there’s no point in leveling beyond 80 because the reward has been removed until HoT is released. Kind of ridiculous considering it wouldn’t be that difficult to just have it award S.Shards until then.
I think they’re in a tough spot with people who don’t buy the xpac though, they won’t have access to mastery points so they’re SOL until they fork out the $$.
So for now all XP, boosters, bonfires, guild bonuses and even the daily xp writs are meaningless. Thanks Anet!

Condition users OP….Power users OP…..
What’s the big deal? Bosses are dying and people are having fun. I’m glad to see there’s a balance right now between Condi and Power, both are capable of killing bosses and when they work together they bring them down fast.
Quit trying to nerf your neighbor so you can look down your nose at him.

Jon,
Any word on why Riccochet was removed? This effectively ruined a large percentage of PVE Thieves who had been using this since start, many of us are sitting here with Quip and a blindsided look on our face
~Dr. Seuss
You must comply with how they want you to play, decisions at the player level were removed for your protection /end sarcasm.
imagine if every new character that is created was given a template they MUST play based on how Anet interprets their playstyle. this makes as much sense as making that decision on behalf of every sub 80 toon in the game without any kind of reset option.
And of course the issue will be ignored until those toons turn 80 and it isnt an issue anymore. But I have 2 friends who started playing the game last month with only 1 character who are no longer playing this game thanks to this horrible decision.
~Dr. Seuss
(edited by Muusic.2967)
Any answer on this possible? Riccochet was the foundation to my build and i also will have wasted months of effort getting Quip if my thief remains nerfed because pistols don’t even come close to dagger now.
~Dr. Seuss
The points were spent on the traits and skills you were equipped.
So actually you chose them.
I had just finished my daily ‘hero of the mists’ on my engineer and had left my turret build on, the toon that is normally a grenadier. So now it has been decided that I shall always remain a turret engy until I earn enough points as i level.
My build was decided on the skills I had equipped, not the traits I had selected. Releasing a new trait system and at the same time deciding to spend most of the points was a horrible idea, it removes the players ability to customize their toon.
A simple reset button would have fixed this.
~Dr. Seuss
seriously before freaking out look around the UI or ask your guildies/friends in game.
“Seriously”, What am I supposed to do with the dog doo they gave me as traits when they spent my points on my lev 60 ranger? It’s unplayable now and it cannot be reset.
~Dr. Seuss
SHHHHH………………..
~Dr. Seuss
At level 80 you have enough hero points to unlock everything, my complaint is for my toons that aren’t level 80 where Anet decided to dump a ton of my points into things I don’t want.
I’m always open to change and can adapt fairly easily but i strongly disagree with the decision to make a change in the purchase method of skills and at the same time decide they know best how to spend them on our behalf without any kind of reset available.
~Dr. Seuss
Just want to clarify since I saw this come up a couple of times in this thread and we haven’t actually released our full official patch notes for 6/23 yet….
Ascended Gear will be staying 5% better than Exotic Gear. Gear beyond the tiers we already have are not going to be added and our existing tiers won’t change, they won’t be our main end-game form of progression for your characters/account for all the reasons we’ve covered before – it isn’t what we think Gw2 is about.
Masteries is being added to PvE to help provide this system as our form of progression for PvE moving forward, and the WvW ability system exists for WvW and will be what we use to expand WvW in the future.
To more directly answer some of your point….We are adding a system that lets you change the stats for your ascended gear (weapons and armor) next Tuesday – which will cost a combination of 10 spirit shards, piece you don’t want anymore, 5 ectos, and an exotic insignia of the stats you want to convert to. Legendary Gear will remain the gear that can freely change stats any time.
-CJ
(Edited to clarify weapons and armor)
So If i’m reading this correctly, skill points will be removed from the game on Tuesday 6/23? I ask because I am close to map completion and want to know what to expect as far as skill challenges.
~Dr. Seuss
There were 3 people trampled to death at the BLTP in Lion’s Arch by am mob screaming something about “must sell silk”.
~Dr. Seuss
If you are experiencing those symptoms, it means that the game servers and your client aren’t communicating as expected. You’ll have to exit the game and restart it and hope that it connects correctly
I’m calling B.S. on this one, every person in the zone agrees that it’s borked and relogging just warps you into some mystery place with missing terrain until you WP again.
You may want to check these things out for yourself before professing your ignorance in the future.
~Dr. Seuss
Between the instadeath, water weapons equipping on land, disappearing vistas, nodes that can’t be harvested and immense zone lag it’s almost impassable. Please check it out Anet!
~Dr. Seuss
Firehart rise is a disaster this morning, unfortunately it’s also the zone I decided to do map completion on 5 of my toons. there’s periods of 10 second lag, insta death for no reason and long periods of no mobs at all on the map (30 secs to 1 min) followed by appearing inside of walls across the zone. Someone seriously needs to take a look at this zone.
If any reps from Anet doubt any of this i would challenge them to log into the zone and try to complete a heart or just spend 5 minutes on the map.
~Dr. Seuss
Yeah it’s kind of like buying a new car. For your trade in on the old model you get your AP, loot, Progress on PS/LW and everything else associated with your account applied to the brand new shiny game!
Plus for original edition owners you get to fondly remember SAB and Scarlet’s LA invasion. 2 Events that should be returning soon!
~Dr. Seuss
I missed the live stream last night, but I noticed the price of silk scraps went up almost 50% overnight. Anyone want to clue me in on what was announced that would cause this because I can’t find it.

I’m perfectly happy spending the money. It’s about the going rate for an expansion for games nowdays

in hope, that Anet reacts on it and grants you your wish to give a dead prson some kind of special memorial – I don’t know, I personally absolutely don’t find that this is right and that this would be something that the dead person in question would find ok too that you literally “beg for him/her” for attention.
I support Gravestones as Guil Hall Feature! (just to be clear)
I’m nominating Orpheal for the 2015 Equine Posterior Award for finding a way to completely disrespect the OP and their state of grief while still agreeing with them. I’m actually surprised you didn’t ask if you could “have his stuff”.
@OP ~ I am deeply saddened by your loss and hope Anet grants you the memorial. It won’t be closure but it will be a positive reminder of everything he brought into your life

you get mastery points for experience after lvl 80
But from the time the wallet change occurs until HoT release all XP gained past level 80 will be wasted according to their post because we aren’t going to be able to earn mastery xp until then.
“Leveling up after level 80 no longer grants skill points, but level 80 characters will be able to loot spirit shards off of monsters.” ~Anet 6/10/2015
~Dr. Seuss
The home watchwork node and Aetherblades in EotM drop them pretty regularly and imho there’s not a lot of back pieces you can make with ascended leather so it’s worth the bank slots to just hang on to them over time.
~Dr. Seuss
No. HoT isnt coming out next patch..
For now leveling up past 80 will grant skill points and youll be able to use them.
This is in direct conflict with what the post said, “Leveling up after level 80 no longer grants skill points, but level 80 characters will be able to loot spirit shards off of monsters.”
This is why i’m asking for clarification because it’s either going to be wasted XP or business as usual between the time the spirit shards are implemented and when HoT is released.
~Dr. Seuss
Quoting from the wallet changes: “Leveling up after level 80 no longer grants skill points, but level 80 characters will be able to loot spirit shards off of monsters.”
So does this mean that HoT is coming out next patch? Does this mean we will be earning masteries points prior to HoT release or does it mean we just completely lose any xp we earn past level 80 until the release happens?
Can anyone clarify?
~Dr. Seuss
Seriously this is getting annoying. Since the Megaserver changeover this has been bugged and im on my 8th toon i am having to log in each day and hope someone kicked the tires the right way.
PLEASE FIX THIS
~Dr. Seuss
It should not be taking that long for 5 perseverance. o_O
How long does it take you to get onto a map, bring it to breach and then do a successful VW+Pac-Man to get all of the buffs?
~Dr. Seuss
MF is useless in SW even when running chest train. You’re not missing out much. I’d much rather have your spot in the map reserved for a few minutes if you d/c or client crashes.
One of the guilds i’m in is specifically focused on Silverwastes maps so I don’t ever have an issue getting a “spot” in any kind of map. My issue is when we have 50% of the zone comprised of guildies and are turning over event maps to generate shovels it’s frustrating to see a lot of players get the MF reset when the buffs can easily be changed to a endure a DC and quick log in.
~Dr. Seuss
A lot of players including myself have had issues recently with Silverwastes crashing our client. There’s an endless debate that can be had as to why including slow computers, old video drivers and even game installation folders but the point of this post is to make a request that will help us.
Nothing is more irritating than to spend 45mins to 1hr getting 5 stacks of perseverence and the Hero of the Wastes buffs and then having your client crash making you start all over again.
Please make these buffs remain on the character if it returns to the same IP within 15 minutes of crashing. I’m almost always grouped in Silverwastes and it’s not a problem getting back in to play with my friends but losing the huge MF boost makes me just want to log out tbh.
~Dr. Seuss
I dislike every one of the daily activities, they are overrun by farmers who run them all day long and have no chance to lose however they pale in comparison to frustration of having to do the daily fractal for those who don’t do them.
There’s a lot more options to finish the daily which is the nice thing about the daily system. It is designed so that each niche can fairly easily finish but encourages players to explore new areas of the game.
Or, just log in each day and collect your free loot minus the 10AP which is worthless other that a few tokens and percentage points anyways. It’s nothing more than a giant peakitten plume for players to feel elite about.
Edit: I lol’d at peakitten, maybe they should have a daily spam filter violation?
~Dr. Seuss
I don’t WvW much because the Devs refuse to face a basic problem:
The matches need automatic, continuous strategic-level handicapping/bolstering mechanics so you can put ANY 3 servers into a match and not know the outcome 10 seconds into the WEEK.
We’re beyond stagnant match-ups. Hell, we’re a year past ossification of match-ups.
There’s a core group of leechers (currently on BG server) who jump ship and change servers the second they aren’t the big kid on the block. Anet makes money off of this so why would it change?
~Dr. Seuss
Having recently retired from EQ2 myself I would recommend that you don’t think of guilds the same way in this game. Guilds in EQ2 are focused on teamwork at a vastly greater level than GW2 therefore membership is a duty and agreement that you will give 100% towards the guild’s progression.
GW2 pretty much only requires members to be polite and helpful when needed and to represent for influence as required. Anyone can form a guild in GW2 and a lot of them are only focused on getting rep from it’s members so when they go through their roster and see you aren’t repping there’s a good chance you’re going to get kicked but it’s not a personal thing like it would be in EQ2 nor will it follow you when you app to another guild.
It took me about a year to find a good guild in GW2 and i’ve been with them for 11 months now. I went through about 4 before I found the one I liked. In 10 years of EQ2 i went through the same amount of guilds and none of them were joined because I actually liked the people in it as much as it was a chance to see a higher level of progression.
~Dr. Seuss
This is right up there with a resizeable and centering mouse cursor.
My biggest complaint.. absolutely no way to find your cursor fast in a snowstorm or heavy fight. That little divot of a cursor needs to be replaceable with something that allows vision impaired people to play the game effectively.
~Dr. Seuss
HOT looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. The art and zone designers did an amazing job building what I have seen so far. This expansion looks like it’s going to continue in the tradition of Silverwastes and Dry Top where teamwork and planning are going to trump brute strength which is going to kitten off a lot of the elitist solo players who don’t seem to think they have to work with other players to achieve goals. I applaud Anet for moving this game further into the “MMO” concept of community and cooperation.
Many of the fights were obviously not polished but from what I observed they have a strong foundation. The boss event on top of the ruins was an absolute blast and once we figured to split into 2 teams and communicate it wasn’t that difficult. Moving through from event to event was fluid and there was never really a question of where to go next if you paid attention to your surroundings and map chat.
My major complaints will most likely be answered during the refinement process, the biggest one being the amount of mobs immune to CC during events where CC is the key to winning if you don’t have massive dps. Equipping the entire beta force in celestail with dolyak runes and then taking away CC made it near to impossible to keep mobs from blitzing the supply stacks. Also protecting the soldiers from suiciding into huge packs of mobs was near to impossible unless you had a large show of force to burn the packs down fast. The leash points on the trolls in the tree city was also very unforgiving especially when you consider many players are using ranged abilities of 1200 to 1500 all it took was the mob to run to th eplayer to completely reset it’s health.
The UI for the mastery points is very unfriendly. The check box up top is going to cause many players to waste the first couple of levels of xp they would have earned unless they know how to use it because many will assume that earning a mastery point means you can actually spend it to gain an ability, not just unlock one to be leveled. Also the UI for gliding was confusing for me because I use my side mouse button to jump and spacebar to tab target meaning I had to click once again to turn off gliding once i got where I wanted to lower elevation.
My main toon is a ranger and is what I used to test on both accounts I got portals on. PLEASE give Rangers 2 pets in the next beta so that we can accurately use them to drop and swap agro and switch between DPS and Tanky pets.
~Dr. Seuss
