you said it yourself right there.. necros have an OPTION for swiftness/speed… mesmers do not have such an option and in WvW were always the last in the group because we cant keep up with everyone else.

Hey guys,

We’re sorry that it’s been a little quiet around here — rest assured, that does not mean we aren’t listening and checking into just about each and every bug reported in this forum and any other. Josh has been swept away by his new tasks, so I’m going to do my best to poke my head in here as much as I can.

StinVec, as Josh has said to you, we’re incredibly grateful for your efforts! We’ve had a bit of a shift in positions over the past few weeks, so that is why there’s been a bit of a lull in the developer interaction in this forum. Hopefully with me being here now, that will change.

As they say, actions speak louder than words. When bugs that are 1 year+ old from launch are still around, I’m not sure how much faith I can maintain.

I think TheSFC.9582 is correct. I can enter dungeon instances from servers I’ve “guested” in – whether voluntarily or involuntarily (through this bug).

And I have yet to see him cast it when I’m just standing still. So staying inside him may not be necessary. And if it’s not needed then it would be pointless to add.
There has been lots of different info about Necrid Trap so would be finally nice to get to the truth!

The reason I stand inside him is because even if he casts his dome on another player who’s in dome range, the edge of the dome will never (at least I’ve yet to see) cross his red circle, so I actually have enough time to get out of the way in any other direction without stability most of the time if such a situation arises.

But yeah, some concrete controlled testing that verifies things would be nice.

I would like to see proof that if you stand on somewhere else he will cast Necrid Trap. Or that moving at specific range doesn’t make him use it. Because I still think it is only related to movement.

And I’m not sure what I should say about your “veteran=elite” comment. Have you ever done fractals or any open pve content? Or do you never look at the health bars to check enemy icon?

EDIT: Nevermind, my mind must have lapsed and thought Veteran = Elite.

I also never said standing inside him was the ONLY way that he doesn’t do Necrid Trap – the comment was just provided as a tip based on experience. To this day, I have yet to see him cast Necrid Trap on me when I’m standing entirely inside him.

I will make a video of me kiting around him in phase 3 and the second I step out of range he will dome my kitten . It definitely is all about placement and not about movement. Oh and also, to whoever said you should be inside his red circle you couldn’t be more wrong. In any 5 man group you will push him away and get your whole party domed. But at least you can blame them for failing.

Not if everyone else stacks inside him as well. =P

In fact, one interesting thing happened the other day while I was on my Mesmer. I backed him all the way up into the wall – and being inside his red circle the entire time. I had sword Clones up (no Phants) and they were all up against the edge of his red target circle. And for a good 2 minutes, he did nothing but the single target projectile, rising AoE, Necrid Barrage, and the single target HP absorb attack. However, after a while, all my clones got inside his red circle as well…and then it’s as if he lost sight of my character – he walked back to the middle and simply resetted to full HP.

It could have been because of terrain issues (I’ve seen this kind of reset happen with other bosses), but also could’ve been an los thing…as I noticed that right before he reset, he was trying to walk back and turn towards me multiple times (but couldn’t since I was always pushing him into the wall already).

A note about Necrid Trap – if you stand perfectly within Lupi’s red target circle, he will not use it on you. Also, silver mobs are Veterans, not Elites. Site is good on a first glance, but can use a lot of clean-ups~

Wraithlord, GL, Balthazar, Belka, Abom, Brie, Entities, Ooze, Jotun, Alphard, Grenth can be easily soloed, even tough some might take time. Of course most of them you wont have to solo, since they deal little to no damage in the frist place, where at other (for example GL) you might even be faster doing them solo, since noone will mess with their behaviour.
All in all it might be a scumbag thing to do, but ignoring downed allies/letting them die might be a better choice if you still struggle a bit with the encounter (Yes I used to do this @Gl, just waited until my pug died in p2, so i can safely do p3 without worrying about traps or 52 p2->3 transition aoes).

This pretty much works best for pugs. If there are new people I will explain as we go and res them usually. If it’s an “experienced” group, I just run, kill, open wp.

Can wraithlord really be solo’d? Never tried it but it seems like you’d need at least 2.

Kitten, that probably means that Illusionary Riposte is still buggy and the CD’s don’t stack.

That would be correct. It’s the same bug where these two counter spells are not considered Illusion-Summoning attacks.

No, they’ll learn because they’ll be forced to (or they’ll faceplant again).

And to be honest, if they’re going to just be a reflect/TW bot I’d rather take a guardian because at least they’ll be in melee and probably contributing more DPS than the mesmer as a result of it.

Seriously? That is your best response? Anyone who’s used the GS before will just switch back, because then they’ll be alive and well. You can’t “force” anyone to do anything, and if you simply kick those using the GS you’re actually having a worse impact on the community than said people.
Switching to full melee and learning to stay alive take time, much more than you’ll be willing to spend on a single dungeon run, and kicking when they fail to “show improvements” within one run will simply leave you looking like an elitist jerk. They’ll discard anything you told them as trash talk and keep doing their own thing. It’s not about what you tell them, but how you phrase it.

You’re wasting your time and making the same mistake that he is: believing people will “just learn.” Best to just leave thing as is or report to mods – people will do and say what they wanna do and say.

As long as mantras have that ridiculous ~3s cast time. They will not be viable in any pvp setting (sPvP/tPvP/WvW). All mantra casts are basically a hey come hit me now sign. FREE KILL COME GET YOUR FREE KILLS GET EM WHILE THEY ARE HOT! <Is what I feel like the mantra symbol is when we cast it. Just saying.

Combine Mantras with traited Torch 4. Works wonders~ =)

Or you could just dodge those attacks and focus on DPSing him.

Also, you don’t run shatter builds in dungeons. It just isn’t worth the trait investment.

You run out of blink/Mantra of Concentration/dodges from time to time, even if you use Superior Sigil of Energy and keep your Vigor up – in the context of soloing him, that is.

And I wasn’t even advocating a shatter build. I was merely saying how actually FULLY utilizing the traitline that you dump 25 points into might be a good idea.

Because Clones block projectiles and help draw further aggro from mobs, esp. against likes of Giganticus Lupicus. There have been far too many times where I’ve been spared from Necrid Trap and his single target life drain because of an extra clone/phant aggroing him.

Also, if you’re running any sort of Shatter build, you might as well put that 25 points in Illusions to use in terms of shattering often, especially considering that you have pretty good access to Distortion – but only if you can produce clones fast. And even without Illusionary Persona, you can still make very good use out of 25 in Illusions for the shredding recharge rate and Deceptive Evasion.

I tried to avoid deceptive evasion because of that, I don’t want it to replace my phantasms with clones and it will since sword is a close range weapon and ill need to evade a lot (while its a good thing to do with condition build here I didn’t want it).
You are right about dmg, this build is imagined like dmg build with a little def stuff to give me chance if I screw evade or smt. Talking about support, isn’t 3 slot skills and traited focus enough of support + if mobs concentrate on my phantasms there is more time for group members to do dmg heal themselves etc since mobs wont be on their kitten constantly :P

Ill add that. I didn’t plan to shatter them unless they survive till new ones are ready. Idea was 2 duelists and a warden to be constantly out for boss if possible and advantage to warden when there is more mobs.

You will VERY rarely ever have more than 2 Phantasms out, especially if one of your Phantasm is a Warden. If you ever have more than 2 Phantasm out then you’re either fighting a glitched boss or the rest of your team is just so tanky and isn’t killing the mobs fast enough.

Clone from Deceptive Evasion only replaces your third Phantasm, and any subsequent Clones from Deceptive Evasion will replace a Clone if possible. Given most dungeon encounters, you most likely will never have 3 Phantasms out – whether it’s on a group of silver mobs, champ, or legendary.

If silver mobs focus on your Phantasms (nevermind Warden, you’d be lucky if that thing survived for the entirety of its attack even without being focused on), they will die in 2 seconds, and you will be left with nothing but Sword autoattack within melee range, and your entire DPS-centric build falls to the ground – hence a ranged weapon + Deceptive Evasion for more clones.

If you’re just planning to do things like CoF p1 or AC p3, then I can see your build panning out okay (but with 5 more into Illusions like what others have said). But run a bit of Arah and CM and you’ll see what I mean~

I’d say your build focuses more about self-damage than team cooperation/support. I personally think that being able to support your team better but doing a little less damage is more important for the most parts.

With Sword as both MH weapons…there’s very little that you can do besides autoattack and then wait for Sword 2/3 once you’ve gotten your Phantasms up and have used up your Utilities. And without Deceptive Evasion, you will essentially be locking yourself into keeping your Phantasms alive until their CDs wear off so you can use Mind Wrack as a finisher. Given dungeon environments, neither are likely to happen – your group is likely to kill a particular mob within 10 seconds, or your Phantasm/Clones will die in 5-7 seconds.

In more pressing mob encounters at harder dungeons (Arah, CM, TA), you’ll want to 1.) be able to either get out and back in fast, or 2.) do a lot of AoE damage quickly to kill, or 3.) AoE interrupts/snares on demand to limit damage done to your group. The former is really possible with Staff & Sword + OH combo, while the latter two are best achieved via a GS & Sword + Focus combo.

That said, this is what I personally run for dungeons.

Overall it’s a group-based support and reflect build that still packs a decent punch (soloed Lupicus by swapping out Null Field for Mantra of Concentration). Basically with the trait point distribution like this, it gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of having good access to things like traited Illusion of Life, Portal, Veil, etc.

Pros:

- 100% group Swiftness uptime
- Three reflect skills on moderate CDs and can be cycled – for near 100% reflect uptime if there is a Guardian using WoR or another Mesmer with similar build – super useful in dungeons like Arah and CM
- Good amount of interrupts (Chaos Storm, Temporal Curtain, and Diversion)
- Good survivability with decent retaliation uptime, 100% Vigor uptime and 100% Chaos Armor uptime
- Good group heals (heals group for 2.7k every 15 seconds roughly if you spam Mantra of Recovery – or swap in Mantra of Pain in a utility for 2.7k group heal every 5 seconds)
- Good group condition removal (traited Null Field + placing Temporal Curtain under an active Warden)

Cons:

- Not as powerful as a Shatter or Phantasm build (when vs. 1 monster)

Sorry, but as a Mesmer, I refuse to carry Illusion of Life to GL (or even greater Arah). If you can’t stay alive yourself and get out of harm’s way, then just stay out of combat/heal up.

Will only ever carry Blink, Mantra of Concentration, and Feedback to GL, and swap Mantra of Concentration for Null Field, Mantra of Resolve, or Portal for rest of Arah~

Reason to hate focus.

This has been an ongoing issue since the release of the game. I know there has been improvements made already…but it’s still an ongoing issue and it’s only amplified by the latest content. Specifically, it’s ridiculous, annoying, and gives seizures while inside enclosed/small areas like Queen’s Gauntlet.

When a player is near a wall and start to turn, they do not expect the camera to suddenly zoom in and out behind their back and them losing all context of their surroundings. Camera should stay in 3rd person view but rotated to still show all that’s around the player…it’s something that classic games like Zelda OoT have gotten right.

Please fix this…it really makes the game not enjoyable (and extremely frustrating – to the point where I want to throw something) at times.

I was quite upset today after running p2 and p3 of CoE to find out that after spending a good 1.5 hours total…I get the same rewards as running a 10-15 min CoF path?!

Path 2 – first and second boss are both soloable – you just need to be able to make the run up to them. There is also a WP after the second boss that actually allows for the shortest run from a WP to Lupi out of all paths.

Yeah took me a good hour last night to get lucky. Is it really by design that drinking Omnomberry Juice = 20% HP reduction but drinking water = 10% HP gain? ’cause it seems the other way around for the NPCs…

1. Ranged Phantasm = harder to destroy.

2. Phase retreat can get you out of really tight situations – and is much friendlier than Illusionary Wave on the CD – also doubles up as a Leap Finisher through…

3. Chaos Storm, one of the strongest #5 skill that we have. The only weapon skill in the game that I can think of that gives pretty reliable Aegis while serving as a stun and applying chill and poison. Very useful for setting up for finishers or interrupting a finisher while you revive an ally.

4. Depending on your build, sustained Fury (in addition to the Might) from Winds of Chaos can beat out the pure Might stacks from Mirror Blade on the GS.

5. Chaos Armor inflicts Blind, Confusion, or Cripple whenever your opponent hits you – with no internal CD. Unless an opponent doesn’t care about continuously stacked confusions/cripples/blinds, this serves as a quasi-invulnerability skill for you.

Combine Leap Finishers (e.g. Sword 3 or Staff 2) through Chaos Storm, that’s nearly 15 seconds of Chaos Armor (drop Chaos Storm, Illusionary Leap for the first Leap Finisher, then Swap at the last second of Chaos Storm for another 5 seconds of Chaos Armor, and then Staff 4 sometimes later).

If you trait for Chaos X (Chaotic Dampening), Inspiration II (Glamour Mastery), Dueling IV (Blade Training), and take up Feedback and Null Field (both excellent party utilities in PvP), you can actually get ~100% Chaos Armor uptime.
