I’m liking the asymmetrical ideas a lot since there are so few of them in game.
You have to be blind to miss the stick up Logan’s…
Arguably, Canach was just a patsy who was angry when he found out he was a patsy with the real villain being the consortium.
Set up to take the fall for what went wrong, THEN his methods of dealing with the Consortium ranged to the “too extreme”.
Also? Not a mary sue sylvari
“Too extreme” being planting an extremely dense mine field in a cave and then hiding in said cave. I kid, I kid.
I would say no.
Since they actually told us that it would be someone we recognized and Scarlet is a new character.
So obviously Hobo-tron is the villain.
I find this crazy
saladsylvari annoying.Scarlet also looks extremely repulsive, which might be intended by Anet.
How on Tyria did she manage to persuade all hostile factions(minus the dragons) to united behind her and attack the humans?
(Well, she did attack every other races but she choose the Queen’s Jubilee for her grand stage.)And why is it a
saladsylvari mastermind again? Last time it was Canach. Is it just me or it is time for another type of villain already?

All for more hairstyles but I’m okay if they leave that one exclusive to Scarlet.
Eh, Logan just needs to loosen up a bit (which is why I like Anise constantly mocking him).
They’re both competing for the same girl. Think about it.
Doesn’t change Logan needing to lighten up a bit. I’m hoping that Logan eventually realizes this and introduces Caithe to Anise and we fix two members of DE in one shot. (And then we’d have both Caithe and Anise teasing Logan.)
Okay, she could be trying to influence the dream by creating chaos everywhere. This is a much less direct approach than the Nightmare Court has taken before (mostly because most of them are so emotionally screwed up that they can’t think straight). So I wouldn’t be surprised if Scarlet did fall to nightmare at some point but I would be surprised if Scarlet is backed by Faolain.
Yeah, I was just pointing out how it seems unlikely that she is from another tree unless some very weird retconning was going on due to the novelty of the concept. She doesn’t seem like Nightmare Court as she doesn’t seem to care about the Pale Tree at all. The attacks so far have been directed against norn, charr and humans. Hardly seems like a way to combat the tablet.
I don’t know if the Nightmare Court necessarily has to be focused solely on the Pale Tree. In Twilight Arbor it seems they’re WAY too focused on each other and scrambling to cause the most pain possible.
The Nightmare Court exists to free the sylvari from the tablet (because someone had mommy issues and Caithe was being sort of a jerk) by corrupting the dream with nightmare. It would be like if the human separatists attack the asura and sylvari to try to overthrow the queen.

Edit: and when is Anet going to get Owain some help? They’re putting in a Hobo-tron arc, we need an Owain arc. (and Tegwen potentially dead isn’t nuts but she does have a rather happy sidekick in Carys)

If that is the case I don’t see how this would make any sense as she would have had to have graduated from those colleges in less than a year (while simultaneously being the mastermind of some of the living story plots) because it came as a surprise when a sylvari from another tree was found in one of the sylvari personal stories.
- Nothing special is revealed about scarlet in the playground itself.
Actually we learn her only weakness is cannonballs
They should put in a Lord Faren greatest hits and include the unused audio detailing how he shamefully cheated Chauncey out of his prize.
I’m more particular toward Anise.
Her teasing Logan constantly is great.
So… Scarlet and the announcer have the same voice actress? It was her playing games and watching us all the time
She did seem to take joy in dumping our bodies into the pit below.
I play ele, engi, guard and necro. So far theyre all very enjoyable even underwater, though guardian is confusing sometimes cuz all the icons look the same underwater =]
Ele is a bit confusing because the main nukes are in the water attunement for whatever reason.
I’m waiting for Hobo-tron to catch a break and become a dean of one of the asuran colleges.
Requiring an entire zone collapse down on one mob regardless of how much HP it has is kind of a silly move especially when you consider the event encourages everyone to spread out.
Lets not resort to hyperbole here. This is not on the same level as Canach’s lair.
I’d rather they just cut down on the insane number of times you have to do these events before you have any real continuation of the story. If you only had to realistically do the event once or twice I don’t think we’d have near push to rush this content.
Worst I had was Scarlet spawned on me when I entered the zone so she got a couple free shots on me while I was loading. Would be funny if she actively chased a person between events in the zone.
Rytlock can be catwoman…
Might be connected to the issue where the only way to get credit for an event is to either do damage to something or turn an item in to an NPC. You can’t get credit for support (whether that is healing or organizing groups or whatever). It kind of limits what they can do with these events as they have to always be go to x location and either kill something, click something, or collect something.
Honest question, what would fix the “zerg content” issue? I mean, if there truly was one zerg on the map with the current content it would likely not win the event. The open world events can also be done with small 10-20 man teams (heck, I’ve done some with 5). And the thing they did add that was actively anti-zerg is also on your list of negatives (queues). So what should they do differently? I’m being sincere in my question.
(And I do agree that the domes are a poor design with the current camera and I question what they’re doing with the economy but am willing to see what they’re planning.)
Well we did get Kiel (which people still hated). But I agree the problem here is her suddenly active role in the story when so far she was very much in the background.
Yeah, not saying they are new. Just saying we have no indication the Sylvari aren’t new either (e.g. you think the dwarves would say something if the Sylvari were obviously dragon minions). There was a cave with some seeds and one turned into the Pale Tree, thats all we know.
(edited by Nageth.5648)
Another possibility is that the Sylvari are the latest transplant by the gods. It wouldn’t be the first time they plunked a new species on the planet. Maybe Melandru gets to have fun this time around. Who knows. (And then there is the whole what is the connection between the gods and the dragons thing.)
I don’t think crazy = popular. There have been quite a few crazy (and not horribly popular) villains in the game so far (e.g. the dredge are pretty nuts). I think it is more the manic dialog (which happens to be well written and voice acted).
I like the character but her debut wasn’t exactly handled well (oddly, this is the same problem Trahearne had…he is much better when you get the sylvari personal story with the rest of it). She just sort of pops out of no where and we’re told she is this super smart person that has never ever been mentioned in the game before today. Then there is the problem with her character seemingly contradicting the master mind that has been behind the living story to date. We didn’t have any indication that the person apparently leading all these different groups is so manic. So she comes across a bit like a joker-clone because don’t know anything about her other than her being a big bad and manic. I do hope they back fill some of the story in the coming updates and I hope they do it in such a way that isn’t so “here is a character, ta da”.
She has actually been mentioned subtly throughout the living story since Flame and Frost.
Indeed. The problem is we were given no indication she was going to be manic. The impression I was getting was that she was more…subtle. I mean, she was doing things behind the scenes for over half a year and suddenly she puts on a huge show for us? What?

Anyone have a source for the this confirmation of there being a jungle dragon? I’ve never seen such a thing.

The only problem I had here was that Scarlet’s personality (while humorous and much more fun than Canach) seems to have come out of no where. I’m hoping that we get to learn a bit more about her backstory (such as reuse the whole vision thing used to find out about Caladbolg) so the mania isn’t so out of left field. Flame and Frost made the person behind the scenes seem to be cloak and daggers, not coocoo for cocoa puffs.
Unfortunately, due to Scarlet’s blabber mouth everyone now knows the one weakness Sylvari have is cannonballs.
I’m guessing the Consortium will go for the lowest bidder for the party supplies and give everyone in the city food poisoning. Kiel will then save the day by threatening to stab everyone in the stomach unless they stop throwing up.
Actually Trahearne double crosssed Zhaitan because the Pale Tree is actually a Dragon Lt whose goal is to claim all the passiflora in Southsun Cove.
I had this show up on me when I played on Windows (way back when). I think it is just a loading bug or something. Loading into a new zone or relogging usually fixes it (sucks if you’re in a queued zone).
Thank you thank you thank you.
The change to glyph or renewal makes it midly interesting for some dungeons. I made good use of it in the aetherblade retreat to res a team-mate while staying mobile, so maybe it will see some use here and there. It is still probably too long for spvp.
Nothing else really exciting. I just keep hoping that we get RtL 900 range on 15s cast time someday. Then it is actually offensive w/o being so strong defensively, but still has some defensive value.
I am sad that we didn’t get the signet/glyph bug fixes with SoR and glyph of elementals/inscription.
Cast time reduction is nice but the skill is still bugged. It is way to easy to use it and have it go on the full cooldown without rezzing anyone, for instance (yes, I know you shouldn’t start on a full down person).
Thanks. I think we mostly would like to know how to set our expectations (since I think everyone has had to reevaluate them in the light of things like laser hawks forever and the “we won’t support the beta client” stuff we keep getting). Like, if you could tell us there is a stall, temporary or permanent, as far as client dev would be nice (i.e. just come out and tell us that putting resources in the mac client is not a good business decision if that is what is happening here…some of us are adults
).
Yeah, that support ticket response seems to directly contradict what we’re seeing now (unless there is some confusion as far as what the new guy’s job actually is). The whole “we won’t support until you’re out of beta” line puts alarm bells up for me. What exactly is the point of a “beta” if you completely ignore the people using it? This isn’t a beta, it isn’t even a Google beta, it looks increasingly like a cash grab (I thank them for not doing it at the end of the game’s life but still, this is starting to look bad). If this isn’t a real beta (and they’re working on a native client or whatnot) they should label this as a workaround or hobby or something. Telling us they’re working on a native client and it will be out eventually hopefully would be nice too but I understand why they would hold their cards close here.

Oh come on, it isn’t a disaster. Yes, we’ve been shown basically zero respect (as usual) but this is hardly the worst treatment we’ve ever had. How about the whole Everquest port right before Everquest 2 came out (which put Mac users on their own server and we never got Everquest 2). The whole “oh nuts our game is dying and we need to pump up the player base numbers lets fart out a horrible port for toasters, consoles, and macs” strategy didn’t happen here. We got a mostly usable port close after launch. (If you would have told me that GW2 would get a mostly usable mac port waaaay before Torchlight II I would have thought you were nuts.)
But yeah, communication here is lacking to say the least. I’ve been crashing less in WvW (takes playing near a mega zerg for a few minutes before I crash instead of crashing before the mega zerg even loads). But I have no clue if this is due to any changes to our client or just happy spill-over from Windows client changes (probably the later). At this point my stance is continue to use the game but do not recommend to anyone on mac (I was recommending pretty heavily after the launch of the beta client). If they show any public interest in mac users again I’ll reconsider. If the game becomes completely unusable I’ll also reconsider (in the oh hey ESO is out direction).
Yeah, when I got to the part about expanding the playerbase I was like “in an alternate universe they’ll take about the mac client” and I wasn’t surprised when the mac “beta” was completely ignored.
I wish they’d change the name from Mac Beta Client to Mac Hobby Client because that is what this is.
Hm, first time I tried to exit to desktop the game crashed (EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)). Tried it again and it crashed the WindowServer. Rebooted and it works without crashing.
Exciting:

That is a thread on people testing gaming performance on OSX 10.9Someone asked if anyone had tested Guild Wars 2 and this was the response they got:
“It is actually playable now, I am getting FPS which is only slightly lower than on Windows. And the annoying stuttering when rotating the camera is almost gone.”So it looks like hopefully 10.9 will offer a performance boost for most users. Just have to wait for (August?)
10.9 actually includes OpenGL 4. We’re not 10 years behind anymore! So yeah, mac game support might significantly improve if Apple actually cares about game developers (and I don’t mean the trot iD or whoever on stage for a WWDC demo then ignore everyone the rest of the year).
For a while I thought their silence and lack of progress on the beta was because they were working on a native client. I mean, why spend time on the cider port if you have something much better coming out? Yeah…that was months ago. At this point with no updates what-so-ever and the increasing difficulty getting any mac specific support at all leaves me feeling this is all we’re getting (and maybe the hawk bug will get fixed but that is about it). I’d love to be wrong but that is about what I’m expecting at this point.
I’m absolutely ecstatic that the hawk bug has finally been acknowledged. That is a huge step forward for us (sadly).
As far as the rest of the recent posts, I think some of it is completely missing the point. The main problem here is that by calling this a beta instead of continuing with their unofficial sanctioning of using WINE they have taken the responsibility of supporting the product. At the moment it is somewhat unclear where you get the support (sidenote, my experiences with support for general game things has been positive). Not only is finding the support a bit convoluted (i.e. listing this as a place for support when it isn’t) but it is still extremely Windows centric.
Essentially, they either need to commit to supporting this beta or rename it hobby or something else that makes it clear what it is.
I was not attempting to “derail” the thread. Just updating that two long standing bugs (one mac specific) are still in. If I was, I would have solicited help. I filed the bug report for the Hawk (again) but doubt we’ll see any updates (as usual).
The Hawk bug still exists (completely unexpected, I know) and now I have the bug where I can’t join parties. Great.
Indeed. However, that does not excuse the lack of presence here. Prior to the release of this beta they unofficially sanctioned the use of Wine to run the game on Mac and Linux. The beta was actually a bit of a surprise as it implied some level of support to help optimize performance as best as possible using this less than optimal work around (e.g. it is easy to tell someone to fix their config file but actually fixing it is another matter). The level of support for this has decreased to almost non-existant though, leaving us wondering what we can realistically expect.
