As far as doing damage, yes d/d damage is in fire and earth. Air is mostly mobility (since the primary attack loves to miss). And I mostly use water for condition clearance (as well as the aura since I’m running an aura build at the moment). The vuln stacking can be okay for some boss fights in PvE.
No one is asking you to “deal” with anything. I really hope you don’t read fan fiction for your own mental health.
I was super annoyed that Sieran went and offed herself.
It is probably the aura build with at least 10 in air, earth, water, and arcane. With 30 water you can also spread the auras and boons as long as they’re from spells and not combo fields or gear effects.
It isn’t a bug. Vapor form literally brings you up and down again. So if you do too many vapor forms in a row you will be insta-killed when the vapor form downs you again.
And I don’t agree with swapping 2 and 3 because then we’d be left with a completely useless skill but it is on a longer cool down, making it even more useless. I’d rather have a non-useless skill to replace 2.
Wow, kind of “no no no not explaining this anymore” aren’t we.
Anyway, biggest issue I see with making the Pale Tree a defected underling of a dragon is that an expansion would be entirely Sylvari centric. Doubt they’d go that direction.
Been suggested a lot and so far we haven’t seen any comment as to us getting an out of combat swap anytime soon.
What’s the purpose of being evil or dark?
In the context of the GW2 storyline, it would go against the sense of self-preservation to be evil – to cut to the logical conclusion it would be faster for those characters to simply jump off a cliff. Perhaps they did that… and they did it in Orr… hence all the Risen.
That said, there are nuances of profiteering and those taking advantage of the chaos.
I don’t feel so much like a hero as I do like a regular schlep.
There is actually a heart in the sylvari starting zone where you can go ahead and act like the Nightmare Court but it will eventually kill you.
So after we defeat the elder dragons the next expansion’s boss will be Batman. We’re doomed.
The Nightmare Court, and the Nightmare itself, came to be after the first of the Secondborn (Caderyn) was basically scolded by the Pale Tree. One of the Firstborn was wounded by the Asura during their experiments, and Caderyn wanted to enact vengeance upon their species. The Pale Tree basically said it wasn’t the way of the Sylvari, and then turned her back on him. When he demanded an explanation, the Firstborn told him the Pale Tree would no longer hear him.
The Nightmare stems from Caderyn’s pride, anger, and probably most of all his jealousy of the Firstborn and their relationship with the Pale Tree. The Nightmare Court is not noble by any stretch of the imagination. They are quite evil in their methods and at their core, but the idea of ‘freeing the Sylvari from a life without true purpose’ is not inherently evil either.
I love the Nightmare Court because of that dichotomy between good and evil. There’s a wide range within the Court.
Yeah, I sum up the Nightmare Court’s creation with Caderyn had mommy issues and Caithe was a jerk to him so he ran off to try to prove something. (Which makes it ironic that Caithe lost her beloved to the nightmare.)
I think the OP might be conflating the Nightmare Court and the Soundless. The later disconnects from the dream but does so in a way that doesn’t really hurt anyone. The former just seeks destruction to prove a point (and I see it as being extremely childish).
In my experience the people who desperately wants to play evil characters are almost never adults
Only if they equate “dark” with jerk. You can get some interesting conflicted characters but they are hard to write and frankly out of the scope of an MMO where you are trying to build a community.
Once upon a time, in the small village of Emoville, the most popular fruit was apples. Nearly everyone loved apples, because they were crunchy and crispy and they were eaten every day. One day, however, a pear seller wandered into the village square. People were intrigued, because the pear seller claimed her pears were totally different from apples and would just melt in your mouth when you bit into them.
Everyone tried the pears. Some of the villagers loved them, finding them succulent and juicy and delicious, and much nicer than apples.
But some people complained that the pears were no good because they weren’t as crispy and shiny as apples.
As a result the village divided into two camps – those who loved apples, and those who loved pears. They spent all day arguing over which was better. Apple lovers claimed pears were an inferior product, whereas pear lovers claimed that apple lovers just didn’t know how to eat pears properly in order to appreciate them.
True story.
And then the Watermelon seller wanders by accidentally and the stuff really hits the fan
Only if Gallagher was in the village.
I’d settle for a channeled aoe damage attack that puts a burning or slow condition on them. Because then you’d either be increasing your chance of downing someone yourself or give yourself more of an ability to run away in vapor form. (Doesn’t prevent the stomp thing as well unless the slow aoe has a huge range but they don’t seem that concerned about us having low stomp protection.)

So would it be more bolt finisher centric instead of being more combo field centric like the staff?
Not sure I want them to give more tools for a person or group of people to enforce my activities, moonpuncher. It implies a level of distrust.
I don’t really understand why people compare mmos, or really, any online game to console game play time hours. It’s completely 2 different things.
Time spent is time spent no matter what you’re doing.
Unless you’re traveling at relativistic speeds.

I second the color profile suggestion. And if you can manage it try using the advanced calibration options because some default profiles will always result in a yellow tinted screen. It can really make the screen look much better.
Long bow ele might be interesting. They’d have to find a way to differentiate from a warrior, though.
Agreed that #2 is worthless (I dislike it so much I forgot the name). Even if you manage to somehow get a vapor form off you can’t get enough distance from a person to warrant using #2. I’ve also noticed that it doesn’t have a very long range either. If all we get is a root you’d think it would have a decent range.
It seems that there is an aggro table. I’ve hammered on a champion (as a ranger) for a while while a group cleaned up other mobs, and then it was absolutely impossible for them to get the champion off of me. I’ve also pulled champions off of some of the melee characters in events that lasted a while. (Lucky for me rangers are pretty good at staying away from baddies)
Overall, while it appears there is some kind of aggro table, it doesn’t seem to matter if you have aggro if you’re good at playing your class.
Oh yeah, the mobs definitely aren’t just randomly hitting people. And the best way to get their attention for an entire fight is to run in before anyone else and drop a huge nuke (e.g. I do this a lot on my d/d elementalist which results in me running around tanking for the rest of the fight).
Bombs are a gift best saved until xmas morning.
I’m not sure anyone knows exactly. After a point in the beta they changed it a bit (resulting in mobs hating anything classified as a turret).
Relax… yes. It-s annoying the actual state of the game. But tonight we are receibing a big patch that we hope all these bugs get fixed.
People who tell others to relax amuse me, I think it makes them feel cool or something. No one is worked up, get over yourself.
From the dev lists tonight’s patch has nothing specifically detailed to deal with what I brought up.
Your thread title:
Deplorable state of the game – BUGS!That looks like you’re worked up chief, so that’s likely the reason you’re being told to relax. As far as early bugs go, I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about. I have a severe case of altoholism and have played the 1st 3 zones of every race dozens of times at this point and have yet to run into any bugged events, NPCs, hearts, nodes, anything. The first bugged event I came across was in some level 45 zone (don’t remember which), but the early zones, like level 30 and below, have all been fine for me and everyone I’ve played with.
From my experience the Charr early zones were the most buggy of the early zones (most of the bugs are 40+ though).
An anet dev provided this graphic:
According to that, Charr is the least-played race by just a little – Sylvari and Asura are about equally common (Humans are by far the most common with Norn in second).
Mesmer and Engineer are roughly tied for least-played class.
I have a Charr Engineer, and she’s a blast: her skirt flies up when she shoots her rifle.
Male Norn Mesmer.
You’d really think you see a lot of those, considering the trolling potential of three huge clones, but nope… never seen one but in other people’s screenshots.
Got one! But I made him short and skinny for a Norn.
While I wasn’t surprised that humans were going to be the most popular I’m shocked that it is so high (connected to thinking that Asura and Sylvari would be higher looking a some of the reddit data). The rest of the data isn’t that surprising.
Huh? I added a second paragraph to better explain my reasoning a second after the post. Are you saying you are now anti-reason?
How would an increased time commitment decrease the feeling of dungeons being a grind?
Omfg, are you a Fanboy undercover or something?. why are u asking all these questions.
Isnt it obvious?
Ah, personal attacks. So your argument is “do this because shut up thats why”? Thank you for clarifying that.
I’m not pro GW2, WoW, ToR, Rift, Tabula Rasa, Glitch, etc… I’m pro having a coherent argument that has thought out reasoning. I was trying to find out what your reasoning was and you showed you have none.
So tired of developers releasing MMORPGs without basic features that have become staple to the genre.

Frankly, I think if they add something similar to the WoW meeting stone (remember when WoW had the city LFG channel?) but without the auto group making feature. Essentially, a better interface for the LFG flagging we have now (which no one uses).
Uh, everything you do on an alt is a timesink by that logic.
How would an increased time commitment decrease the feeling of dungeons being a grind?
Can you explain in more detail how longer dungeons would fix the issue?
I get what you’re saying as far as grinding. Honestly, I think a large part of the blame here lies with the players. I don’t know if grinding is addictive or what but dungeons are being treated as a huge grind at the moment (which is sad). I don’t know how they can fix this. Maybe a better dungeon finder would help because that way getting a group together wouldn’t be such a huge event and you’d be more likely to just casually hop into a dungeon. (and the token drop is increasing)
Best way to approach the problem of grinding is if the game feels like a grind then stop what you’re doing. That could me step away from the game for a while or just doing something else (I leveled up cooking a bit for variety, myself).
There is some UI scaling already in and you can move your mini map around (as well as resize). It isn’t a load of customization but it is there.
Not sure why you have two threads on the same subject. shrug
Anyway, looks like you mostly just want more sPvP modes and you want competitive PvE.
As far as sPvP I think they stated (sorry I don’t have the source) that they have many modes that they sort of kick around and develop. They only released the one mode because it had the best balance and they’re trying to make sPvP into an eSport. Essentially, I doubt they’ll release new sPvP modes at a quick rate to ensure balance.
As far as competitive PvE, yeah you’re probably sol outside of the mini games. We just have the keg brawl game at the moment but supposedly they have more they will release. Hope they add more here soon as the keg one is pretty fun.
What are you looking for? You said a lot of things you don’t like but nothing that you would like.
Ah, well in that case no we’re not getting anything like that. One of the stated goals of the game is to reduce reliance on the UI (e.g. we don’t have cast bars but instead we have exaggerated cast animations). So it isn’t a botting issue but rather a game design philosophy issue.
The OP’s second post said API and addon in the same sentence (literally right next to each other).
Hence why I was stating there might be a communication issue here.
By that logic every character you make post level 80 should be autoleveled to 80 because you’ve technically done all the content before.
They said something about an API for things like mobile apps.
I think the definition of the word addon is the issue here.
80 Elementalist
400 tailor, 200+ cooking (figure it is relevant data)
8/10 (high end content is still a bit buggy, balance issues, etc…)
I quit. This game is sorely lacking character progression. From level 40 on, all you have to look forward to are a few passives.
Eh? I’ve switched my elementalist from being focused on combo fields to condition remove and now to auras.
The trick is knowing how the traits play off each other and not just looking for a big I win trait.
That and more zone completions = more loot. I like how it is currently.
Actually, I don’t think any of his issues line up with the known mac beta client issues. It sounds more like you got unlucky and were trying to use the TP when it was down/unresponsive.

Disabling the Mac beta scroll feature fixes the issue (I’m confused why they enabled the feature by default).
Today I learned that Germans don’t like kittens (weird picture in my head with a German angry at a kitten). Thanks Anet!
How is that? The thread doesn’t say anything like that, or missed I something.
Kitten would be Kätzchen in German, I would be fine with that, Mäuschen would also be great… almost everything is better that the strange word that seems to be used currently there (never heard anyone actually use that in real life), but even though I am German I prefer to post here in English, so I don’t care too much about that.
It was a joke, hence the second paragraph talking about being serious. rolleyes
Running on 10.8.2 (on an iMac w/o filevault and a Macbook Air w/ filevault, firewall on, gatekeeper at the middle option) and it works fine. Have you tried looking at the console/logs to see if it is something obvious?
I’m afraid they’re going to nerf the 10 point sylvari one because I really like the invulnerability (it roots you but sometimes it is really nice to wait out a cd).
Because: Elementalist is the most balanced class. Imo all other classes should be balanced to the Elementalists powerlevel. Stronger can result in boring results, weaker as well.
Buffing the Elementalist would only shorten fights instead of making them more interesting.
That is a good question.
Frankly, I wonder if it is even possible to balance the elementalist vs everyone else because our playstyle is extremely different. Our F1-4 buttons are about as important as 1-5 and you can’t really say that for any other profession. We may be stuck with being the niche of difficult to play and very difficult to master.
As far as elite, I find myself using the 10 point Sylvari Elite over the elementalist ones because frankly the invulnerability can be super valuable in WvW and PvE and the plants you drop are mob magnets in PvE (so another good survivability aspect). Haven’t used the greatsword much so I don’t have an opinion of it but the tornado is really meh (pet one is okay).
Elementalist and Engineer getting out of combat weapon swap would be nice.
