And we sorely need optimism. I’m becoming extremely cynical as far as what the state of the Mac “beta” is and how they view us. Some honesty from the devs would go a long way toward repairing things.

Edit: and as far as Twitter, I think the most we got out of that was them making some sort of cute, cryptic statement (probably because they have no clue). Not bashing them, as they have a hard job but don’t think we’ll get anything out of that route.

Yeah, it is a Mac only problem that started with the last big content patch (i.e. the remove culling in WvW patch). No word on if they’re going to fix it. The complete lack of feedback as far as the increasingly buggy Mac version is getting to be slightly worrisome.

Keys sticking

It is a problem the game has in general (not just a mac issue). Essentially if you hit multiple keys at the same time you stand a good chance of one of them sticking. This commonly happens if you’re trying to pick up loot and move around at the same time (resulting in the movement key sticking). Press the stuck key and it should destick it.

I’ve thought the same thing. But maybe they’re trying to preserve line of sight a little bit. Lots and lots of trees and vegetation can easily get people lost, or make it difficult to fight monsters.

That, and also the more objects you put on screen the more work peoples computers have to do to render them. There is a reason you don’t ever see thickly forested areas in any games, people computers just couldn’t handle it.

But as you said, fighting or navigating in those kinds of areas would be a nightmare.

Agreed that you probably shouldn’t throw new players into a hard to navigate zone but what about a higher level zone? It could be part of the challenge/dynamic events.

What is the point of one shotting a champion (if you really want to one shot something go to a 1-15 zone with an 80 in exotics and hit any regular mob)? Simple fact is that this game chooses to be more challenging than normal regardless of level. If you equate progression with level number and nothing else then this unfortunately isn’t the game for you. that is YOUR preference.

Yes yes, you need to use sudo but I actively discourage people who don’t want to learn the Terminal from using the command line (because they don’t know what sudo does so they may one day decide to use it and type it in a command wrong). Telling them to delete a file in a folder using the Finder is something they do every day and they’re much less likely to delete something accidentally (not to mention the Finder won’t let you delete something that is being used).

Many people are finding this solution solves problems with Guild Wars 2, which is good.

There still appears to be some confusion, however.

The instructions from Vince at the top of this thread are correct. Add to them the following:

You must QUIT the Guild Wars 2 game application before attempting to delete the folder within Application Support. The Mac OS will correctly refuse to delete the folder when it knows that an application is using it.

The folder will be re-created with fresh data when you next start Guild Wars 2.

DO NOT attempt to make “tweaks” to the files. There are no user-adjustable settings and no benefits to be had. Fracking with the files will likely only lead to future problems.

For people having trouble locating the Library folder (it was changed to a hidden folder as of OS X 10.8), you can delete the folder using the following command line. Start a Terminal session (found inside the Utilities folder on your Mac) and copy & paste the line, below. Press Enter to execute the command. You won’t see any output; the command will execute instantly and give you a new command prompt line.

rm -R ~/“Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2”

Translated: rm is the Unix remove command. The -R indicates “recursive” because you are instructing the computer to delete all the contents of a directory (folder). The ~ is short-hand for the current user’s home folder.

Quit the Terminal session when you’re done.

I would really advise against using the Terminal if you have no idea what you are doing. Using that command can wipe your entire hard drive if you type the command in wrong. It is much much safer to go into the Library and remove the folder using the Finder.

I started doing this long ago with WoW because TimeMachine would actually start killing performance by constantly backing up the game while I was playing it. Pretty much if the game gets patched frequently and you have an easy way to redownload it, don’t let TimeMachine touch it.

EXACLTY, so if the dumb kittening idiots at blizzard can do it and still manage to kitten over the entire gaming base for WoW. Then THE kitten can ANet do it for use and GW2? i call bullkitten.

Funny enough, the native Mac client of WoW has pretty much the same performance penalty like GW2’s Cider client (well, it did when I last used it). And I recently tried Lotro’s native client and was rather underwhelmed by the significant performance problems it had.

i believe wow had a opengl renderer.

In reality, the client does not have to be native to get near windows performance on the mac. It just need a native opengl boost which has a huge performance boost in comparison to using mac os library calls

Yeah, Blizzard game engines have always had the option to use OpenGL. This made their mac ports much easier and what allows them to release every game simultaneously. WoW for Mac is pretty good. It even had some features first. Difference is that ANet isn’t as big as Blizzard and they didn’t make the same design decisions as Blizzard. This means they can’t just pump out a native mac client on a whim. WoW running on Mac was due to design decisions when they were making Warcraft III. I don’t blame ANet for not having the money to focus on Mac back when GW2 was starting development because frankly the Mac wasn’t a good market to be going after at the time (not nearly as popular with young people…remember everyone in universities used to be using Dells).

The hardware isn’t that bad. I’ll give you drivers, though. Apple didn’t do squat for probably half a decade there. We’re only now getting new ones (hence why everyone needs to be using 10.8.x).

As far as native port or whatever, I don’t care. I would like to see or hear about some progress though whether that is them working on getting the Cider port working better (it isn’t as bad looking as most cider ports) or if they have plans to try to get a native port (which will probably take a very long time). Heck, even a “the mac port will be getting better within a year” or something like that would be nice.

PS: I’m running GW2 at max settings (outside of the high res graphics since cider can’t do 64 bit Windows) and getting good performance.

every other long range charge still has a short CD (swoop at 12s, rush at 15s, etc).

But for other professions, that’s all they get. D/D also has Fiery Rush and Magnetic Grasp, as well as Lightning Flash and some charges in the conjure weapons should you choose to use them.

Yeah, this RTL nerf (while sucky) doesn’t destroy builds (since most of them were bunker anyway). More annoying than anything else. Hopefully they continue to fix up scepter, focus, and staff a bit more (the focus changes were nice) since they could use some help.

No, the skill is fine in theory. They should simply fix the bugs, streamline the ranges, and maybe tone down the high casting time for 1 second or something.

Assuming the point of the skill is to provide a safer way to help a downed person there are a few ways to go about this. For instance, Mesmers get a trait that puts up a projectile reflection bubble that is also a combo field. The most straight forward way would be to decrease the cast time. They could also do something like apply some sort of protective bonus during the cast instead of applying the current effects after the cast.

They still can die. The only thing they’re immune to is being turned into a minion (for whatever reason). I’d hardly call that grounds for Mary Sue. Not to mention if it was a true Mary Sue the nightmare court and the soundless wouldn’t exist. People seem to be suffering from extremely selective memory. Kodan like the sylvari’s philosophy? Well the Asura wanted to (and some still do) dissect them because they didn’t see them as being alive. How is that Mary Sue? What about Trahearne’s magic sword. Remember how he wasn’t the first owner of it? The original owner of it (also a first born) got himself killed because he was basically a noob.

Honestly, this seems to center 100% around Trahearne and not the race (because he does kind of pop out of nowhere and is given command of entire armies for very little reason other than the plot demanding there be a non-player hero who does all the administration stuff so the player can focus on killing stuff). Might as well paint the entire human race with Logan’s brush if we’re going to over generalize.

Textures not loading at all is definitely a problem that needs looking into.
The high-res texture limitation needs to be fixed where it occurs, in the 32bit Win client.

It’s not Mac specific because users of 32bit Windows have it too. If you mean they have the option to upgrade to 64bit Windows , well, so do you.

Besides, crashing up a storm doesn’t do anything usefull besides wasting the forum moderators ’ time. Report whatever problem you have, then your job here is done.

Oh come on, enough with the “you have the choice to use bootcamp” nonsense. This cider beta wouldn’t exist if everyone didn’t know that line was a long way of saying “here is the door”.

I’d have liked them to be more alien, but their design is quite good overall. The only problem for me is the fact that it’s pretty much impossible to actually LOOK like a sylvari unless you’re already at max level and have lots of money to burn. The game would really benefit from more cultural gear.

This, there are only four options available to individual characters and they don’t exactly mix and match well (there are some other sets that can get close but aren’t quite there). It would be nice if there were some more options.

Honestly, I’d enjoy them putting more in regarding the soundless (they pretty much cease to exist after you leave the sylvari starting areas outside of some of the chatter in the Grove). How the sylvari of the dream handle more frequent interactions with the soundless would prove more interesting than the rather diametrically opposed dream vs. nightmare.

And regarding how the White Stag shows the one person in the Nightmare court who wasn’t a complete jerk (and is now dead) he really is more of the exception rather than the rule. The court’s leadership consists of a bunch of backstabbing jerks (is the hope of being the leader what draws people to like the idea of the court? I really do not understand how people sympathize here).

Technically not true. There are no “alive” Flesh Golems, but Flesh Golems are made out of the raw parts of something(s) that was/were once alive. That’s probably what he meant. Or he was just being kitten ol’ Trahearne.

Like the Bone Fiend, you can clearly tell how it is partially constructed out of two rib cages – one of which is children-sized…

Yeah, I figured he meant that the golem that was a mix of squirrel and chicken bones as never an actual entity. Zhaitan would probably be too embarrassed to control such a thing but lets let Trahearne keep his self-esteem.

I think the problem is that some people have problems with timed jump puzzles (especially when there are a bunch of people jumping at the same time). The puzzle is really only difficult until the two candy canes. By that time the snowflake jumps become much more linear (less moving the camera/eating time). There are only a couple traps after that which are easily learned (e.g. avoiding the frost traps and the snowballs). Just my opinion (the three times I made it to the gift boxes I first ran the wrong direction for the snowballs because I didn’t see the ramp turned up, the second time I didn’t have the gift box pattern down and the third time I made it to the end and stopped doing the puzzle…something like 99% of my attempts I fell before the two candy canes due to the camera or mistiming my jump).

Edit: As far as the halloween puzzle it had a similar problem with front loading the difficult part even though the puzzle had a much less forgiving timer.
