Wait, so it really doesn’t increase the downed penalty anymore? That is really nice (sucked killing one self by using vapor one too many times).
Oh man, we really need a 100 kitten skill now. We’d explode and a 100 kittens would come flying out and everyone would die from cuteness. That would make the low survivability worth it.
The devs brought up this issue recently. Essentially server issue. You can still tab select people but I found that while they were invisible they had a chance to be completely out of sync (has them standing still, ride the lightning completely freaks out, etc…). It was particularly bad this weekend so dunno.
Your traits really impact how effective your weapon skills are. For instance, the aura build isn’t great if you’re not dagger/dagger. Essentially, almost any weapon set can be useful in a situation (there are limits, dagger/dagger isn’t great for hitting people on walls in WvW and I believe focus offhand isn’t great for mobility).
So look at the traits and what each weapon set focuses on and find ones that play off each other.
I keep waiting for Take Root to get nerfed. It is actually more useful than many profession elites which is a bit confusing.
I figured whirlpool would get nerfed. It was so out of line with the land version as far as damage and I’m cynical about getting buffs. Now I want the Sylvari Take Root to have an underwater version (Algae Bloom?) so I can have a useful elite when I get zerged underwater.
As far as Renewal, I gave up on it being useful by the end of bwe1. Were we the only one with a rez ability? They should just scrap it if so because it will either be niche or overpowered.

I kinda feel like the way it works now is by design. If you want the convenience of just using one set of tools, you buy the orichalcum harvesting tools and you just eat the cost because they are still relatively cheap for a level 80 player. I never both with multiple sets of tools and always use the max tools at 80. Swapping the tools out feels really anal retentive and miserly. You can do this if you want the maximum money savings, but its on you.
That said, if there were a software change, I would prefer the idea of a scaling durability and the quality of the harvesting tool limited which items yo u could harvest, but also had more durability points than lower quality tools, etc.
Oh I agree that is is a bit weird to keep every set. But if you’re running around mining a bunch of copper with high end tools you’re just being silly.
Well I usually only keep mithril and ori tools on hand. If I intend to farm copper/silver/iron/etc I buy that specific tool for that moment. If I am just running around and decide to grab this random iron, I just use my mithril pick.
Same. It still makes me feel weird buying a specific pick for mining copper, though.
Attention ANet. Utupia is a dream. We game in reality. You can’t just say, oh please guys don’t buy gold! You have to ban the hell out of the cheating scumbags and remove them. Period. You are going to have to exert some effort. Magic is neato in the game itself but it doesn’t happen IRL.
Problem is ensuring intent can be tricky. They could pretty easily end up banning innocent people by mistake.
Banning people who buy (which is a violation of the tos) is a tool but it shouldn’t be treated as a panacea (just like how asking nicely for people to stop buying is a tool).
So are you disputing my observation that whirlpool is in many cases more powerful than tornado (yes this includes build)?
As far as the rest, good point talking about water. It is quite good at damage (especially #5 which I kind of spaced on). People are trained to think of water as being lower damage by all the land abilities only for it to be higher damage underwater. It is also the most effective attunement for longer range.
Frankly I think they don’t down rank you enough. If you’re 20 levels over the zone you can pretty easily steamroll the mobs. True, your farts aren’t the equivalent of a nuclear bomb but the content does become trivial.
As far as levels, I’m fine with them because they do help gate content in PvE (which helps gate the story so you don’t start the game by killing the end boss) as well as provides you the option for a challenge (e.g. higher level mobs drop better loot).

Our swimming abilities seem more control oriented rather than damage (sink, float, slow, cage, blind) rather than doing lots of damage. The only good damage skill is the elite (which is funny because the on land version/tornado is pretty bad).
I can’t wait for the Pale Tree to grow some tennis courts.
In all seriousness, I’m more annoyed by the Centaur line for humans.
Oh man, this is going to be like reading ink blots.
This game is pretty much by definition “pay to pretty” so yes expect looks to cost more than stats.
Why is gold even tradable? Don’t get me wrong, it’s convent to give people money but if I had the choice to give/receive gold or no gold spammers – I’d pick the latter.
They’d just use an item that is easily transferable to gold (e.g. ore). So it would minimally impact the gold sellers while making it harder for people giving gold for legitimate reasons.
Use the pull skill to pull enemies off walls in WvW (well short walls since only range 600). Or to pull them together for your group to focus on.
That’s all I got :/ it could really use some dev love.
I tried that a few times but they have to be really careless to get caught because all the walls have lips. It is frankly more effective at keeping people from running back inside.
Good idea. They can keep the tiered harvesting tools in but just increase their durability accordingly. I always hated how if felt like the game was punishing me for not paying attention to what tool I had equipped.
Waypoints cost way too much. They were free in the last game. Why aren’t they free here? Making us pay for waypoints AND for repair costs upon death by mobs? Also completely unfair. Not to mention it’s even more of a pain to earn crafting materials with such small bag space. Making us pay for materials inside of a merchant to craft something is way overdoing it.
They need a money sink otherwise inflation will kill the economy. I’m not exactly a fan of how they have the waypoint price scale (level is way more important than distance).
Don’t how bag space is an issue for anything outside of cooking since a lot of the intermediate ingredients can’t be put in your collection tab.
The Skritt racial would be funny. They could have abilities blow up in your face if you’re not in the general area of other Skritt.
As far as what we’ll probably get I could see Tengu or Largos.
Thank you for the confirmation that you’re looking at these things. Hope it isn’t too far out (if it is I hope we get more bits of info along the way).
You obviously haven’t tried the event with the elemental in the Asura newbie zone
Yeah, that event is just evil because people sit in the bottleneck and get taken out en masse.
I figured Gavin out pretty quickly but it was nice that he wasn’t chaotic evil and tried to tie you down to a railroad track. He might have fooled me if he didn’t flip so quickly.
Actually, Apatia is useful (far more than Trahearne). Trahearne tickles people with his sword then falls over.
Thanks, I figured there was an achieve for this but didn’t know where all the books were.
Thanks for the update. I didn’t want their filthy 1c but I also didn’t want to give it back to them because I dislike them. So I took it and reported.
While I’m not really an RPer I don’t help out in the Norn DE where you have to go save the jerk boyfriend after he gets kicked out for being a jerk. So it isn’t exactly hard to come up with a reason not to do a DE (but you should leave the area to not inflate the difficulty for no reason).
Not really, it was bound to be relevant eventually. I mean, what MMO doesn’t have people complaining about profession choices?
Character continues to run after I stop controlling her.

Yeah, happens to me all the time. Dodging into the direction that you’re stuck running toward fixes it (e.g. running right dodge right).
Yup, she has been there since BWE3 at least. So I really doubt it has anything to do with forum topics.
I actually had the game kernal panic me last night. That was weird (haven’t had a KP in ages).
To quote mst3k:
Rip Steakface
Slate Slabrock
Crud Bonemeal
Brick Hardmeat
Rip Slagcheek
Punch Sideiron
Gristle McThornbody
Slate Fistcrunch
Buff Hardback
Bob Johnson (oh, wait…)
Oh yeah, he is that weird kitten fight (kind of funny that I actually meant to say kitten as in a young cat). See that fight was so weird/easy I completely forgot who it was. He really is a pathetic character in the story.
Yes, Cadeyrn didn’t create the nightmare anymore than the Pale Tree creates specific dreams He was responsible for the creation of the Nightmare Court (where he is now, I have no idea) which is responsible for the growth of nightmare.
I would think the simple solution would be to not allow a kick vote to be initiated while in combat and require a majority (3 instead of 2) for a kick.
Kicking someone while you are midcombat just seems like a plain bad idea (regardless of what actually happened here/if you believe the one sided story or not…OP in the future you might just present the issue that needs to be changed without retelling an event that could be construed as a personal attack because you’ll likely get attacked yourself).
As far as bleeding, plants on earth can “bleed” sap. Essentially, look up xylem and turgor pressure. The size and capabilities of the sylvari mean they probably have some sort of pump based circulatory system otherwise sylvari would have mobility issues (thus they can “bleed”). But hey, plants don’t have nervous systems either so magic. As far as poison, well I guess people must be using super broad spectrum poisons since they can effect pretty much every race in the game (and since humans are aliens that is even more impressive).
Uh, I think you’re conflating Filevault and Gatekeeper. Filevault is actually a disk encryption system. It was first introduced in many years ago and it largely was a horrible idea to use (home folder encryption using a disk image which broke lots of things). Filevault 2.0 was introduced in 10.7 and is also in 10.8. Filevault 2 is full disc encryption and actually works fine. It makes sense to enable it on laptops (not so much on desktops).
What you’re thinking of is called Gatekeeper. Gatekeeper was also sort of introduced in 10.7 although it was only recently fully enabled in 10.7.5. Gatekeeper relies upon signing applications. Essentially the way it works is that there are three options. The default option is it will run any app you downloaded using the Mac App Store or an app that has been signed with an Apple developer account. The other options are Mac App Store only and any app at all. At the default option, the signature check only happens on first run. So if you attempt to load an app that does not have a signature it will tell you it does not have a signature and not start the app. If the app does have a signature but the developer proved to be making dangerous apps and had their signature revoked the app will not run either (I believe you are prompted to delete it but I’m not certain as no one has had their signature revoked to date). Additional fun fact, if you are trying to run an app that has no signature you can right click and select “Open” from the contextual menu. This will start the app and you can use it after agreeing in the nag dialog box. Again, Gatekeeper check only happens on the first launch (similar to the downloaded from the internet check in 10.7) so you will not be nagged every time you launch the app.
As far as Guild Wars 2, it appears they have a signature as I have had absolutely no issue running the game using the default option (it is fairly obvious when something hits Gatekeeper). Oh and I’ve run it on a system with Filevault 2 on and it also worked fine.
I’ve run it on two computers under non-admin users and it works fine for me. Might be something specific to your system.
The admin rights for the installer are probably just to gain access to your /Applications folder and they didn’t check to see if that is where you were actually installing it (i.e. the installer isn’t smart).
Mostly because it is really hard to classify them. You can’t really call them innocent or naive (at least not anymore). They’re also very close to the Asura but at the same time they’re not horribly pretentious. More room to explore, I guess. They can also be extremely fierce but there is still a line (and some take it way too far).

You can be very healing/supportive as an Elementalist.
I personally run 10 Air, 30 Water, 30 Arcane.
I’ve seen a good amount of people enjoy the build and think it was pretty good.
I ran a similar support build for a while and it does a very nice job of helping out on the more incoming damage intensive fights.
But yeah, don’t just sit there and spam water abilities all day because that isn’t efficient.
Not really. Apple almost completely ignored their drivers and OpenGL until 10.7. Seriously, part of the “macs aren’t for games” meme is completely Apple’s fault for being dismissive of games until it started accidentally selling iPod Touches (the other part of the fault lies with immature people just looking to be jerks).
Sad to say but 10.7.4 was a pretty major update as far as games are concerned.
As far as the rest of your specs, can’t say because you haven’t posted them.
I think the big difference here too is that the main city isn’t really a city. It is more of a combo town and racial leader. So yeah, it is a pathetic city if you approach it from a more tyrian human point of view but it isn’t trying to be that.
Side note, wish they’d put in more secret areas in the Grove, though.
We’d need more specs as far as what you’re actually running. Honestly, being below 10.7.4 is probably going to hurt you.
Frankly, the broken events were hurting my ele more than rlt getting caught up on terrain. I’m a bit sad that rtl has been a bit messed up since bwe3 but then again I don’t want them to screw it up so that we can have people zapping up keep walls in WvW (there have been similar issues with other abilities).
If you want to damage & slow them down while you’re in vapor form, you already got the Icy Mist trait for that… ^^;
I think the downed state skills are fine as they are, even if they’re almost useless in pvp when the enemies are already next to you.
I wasn’t suggesting both (hence the use of “or”). Additionally, the problem with say “oh you get that with a vapor form trait” is that we so rarely get to use vapor form because our cc #2 ability is so completely useless. We have have to rely on the people downing us to either not realize they did or for them to be too busy to kill us before our vapor form cd finishes. My suggestion to just turn #2 into an aoe slow would at least give us a better shot of even using vapor form. At this point, #2 might as well not exist because it doesn’t do its job.
My elementalist (just changed my outfit completely so probably going to mess with it some more/swap out some pieces).
I was super annoyed that Sieran went and offed herself.
Yeah, what was up with that? How effective could that possibly have been?
Stupid, pointless… and completely expected. Anet always does this, in every story they make. It doesn’t feel epic or tragic. It feels entirely predictable and trite.I really want to use that Amulet of Balthazar and wreck up more zombies though.
It was more how her combat ability was only slightly better than Trahearne’s. She probably lasted all of 5 seconds after that door closed.
Illushia, you certainly have an inflated sense of self. Do you realize how many bad ideas are uttered every day without your prior approval? Better yet do you have any idea how many bad ideas you’ve uttered? Really, if you want to talk about an idea talk about the idea and don’t try to degrade the person writing it.
They could at least make the immobize have a 1/4th second daze to prevent a stomp
I suggested in another ele downstate complaint thread an aoe slow or burn channel to replace 2. Feel that a slow may not be horribly useful if you get down with a bunch of people on you but you’re kind of out of luck with a knockback if they have stability too so… The slow would also help with vapor form to let you increase distance easier. The problem is the slow would have to have a largish area of effect. The aoe burn would be just a spite move to try to down someone first.
