Yes, gear is all about combat 24/7. That is why they have +magic find on it. Oh wait.
We don’t know how expensive infusions will be. It could be doable to swap them with some regularity.
You still have to overwrite the ones that you already have slotted. Even if they’re relatively cheap, I think this idea is dumb simply because gear has nothing to do with jumping puzzles now and it should stay that way.
Right now jumping puzzles are somewhat organic; you find one or show up to one and start jumping. You figure out the traps and little issues and overcome them. If people show up to one and try to do it and Gravity is screwing them up, there’s nothing to tell them “Hey go gear up before you do this, ya dingus.” Chances are people will just leave frustrated.
We also don’t have multi-spec ability so if you want to change play style you have to spend money to respec your skills and likely redo some of your gear (if not all of it). They’re money dumps, sure. But we don’t know the extent that they will be. We’ll likely face this problem when they add in a new dungeon with a new mechanic anyway so it isn’t like the jump puzzle version would suddenly make this a problem.

Well if we get rips in the space time continuum they’d be justified in having Worf pop out of one.
Actually, that doesn’t sound that bad. Would be a nice way to solo for the new gear.
They purposefully made it huge because they want to make sure they have open ends on their stories.
Take for example WoW…..WoW’s world is all but fleshed out. And WoW is boring because of it.
To be fair, with tBC there were hints they were going to do the whole portal to different worlds thing but instead they decided to just keep adding more land mass (although Northrend did exist prior to WotLK but it just wasn’t on the map for whatever reason).
The difference I like is that it presents a more realistic sense of scale as presenting the playable world as the entirety of a planet usually makes for a very very small planet.
I’d love some underwater stuff after they fix the whole problem with them usually not working well with the skills you picked.
Well since we’re just supposed to list one I’ll go with the big one already listed:
I’d like a reduced reliance on the Arcane line too. It really limits the points available when many of our abilities proc off attunement swapping.
I’m just bitter that Sieran died instead of him.
They need a helm or hair style modeled off an orchid.
Frankly, I think they should reserve the fungus looking ones for sylvari from the sister pale tree. Sort of like how Australia has a different mix of flora. What if they were all Australian?

More armor! I’m okay if they’re gated for later in the game or even somewhat hard to get. I want more options, though. Colors are fine though. More colors. They’re a young race so it is fine if some of the color choices are garish.
A fishing rod that looks like a huge fish that shoots fish out of its mouth to latch onto fish for you to reel them in.
I do find it odd that t2 light looks better than t3.
are you on drugs are something, at lest for females. The t3 light is by far better.
Now I will admits the t2 shoulderpads are awesome, best in game no doubt.
However the rest of it is not good at all. Ps, using my bottom bar to block out my shoes, because still got the t1 shoes, which sucks but within a week I will have money for the t3 shoes.
I think t2 matches my Sylvari much better than t3.
Eh? Item progression could be entirely done using the infusions mechanic (since we have little idea whats going on with them). They could also add more levels in expansion for progression. We really have very little idea what is going to happen outside of them releasing ascended gear and infusions slowly over time.
I’d like fishing but would hope it would be more interactive than current resource nodes (and that doesn’t mean make fishing pools that you have to try to hit with your bobber as that is getting a bit old). I’d be up for them making it as complicated as cooking (e.g. there are differences between fly fishing in a stream, fishing with a bobber in a lake and fishing with nets or spears or traps in an ocean).
It is funny how what sounds like an otherwise great patch can be spoiled by one thing (admittedly a potentially very big thing). I’m hoping this isn’t a gear treadmill and we’re all massively overreacting.
The problem is that they immediately showed stat upgrades with the line “This is just the beginning…”
I know that, and it is going over about as well as a kitten in a punchbowl. Making Ascended items statistically similar will be the best way to defuse the situation and make most people happy.
I’m hopeful because they’re only putting in a couple ascended items with this patch. I’m not 100% against what I read. The insane parts are introducing an apparently vastly superior tier and to some extent the infusions being designed to combat damage. The first part just smacks of traditional gear treadmill that I bought this game to avoid (I wanted to avoid the treadmill games so much that I bought the game when it came out for prepurchase and there was no Mac version yet…yes I use a Mac get over it). The whole damage mitigation thing is slightly annoying but could be tolerable depending on how forgiving it is (i.e., if you can do several repeats without much problem without the mitigation then whatever). However, we’re going to get people demanding stat checks now which is going to destroy the community.
I am relieved that they’re taking baby steps here and not just changing the endgame design with a single patch because it gives them a chance to reverse the stupid parts of this. It still smacks of selling the game’s future for a short-term gain.

I’m extremely worried about this dramatic change in the game. If I wanted to play WoW I would be playing MoP (have the expansion but have played very little of it). That said, I’m going to give these GW2 changes a try because Anet is being somewhat vague about a lot of this (i.e., I’m not jumping on the it is the end of Tyria bandwagon that is assuming the worst possible scenario). This whole thing feels very much like it isn’t 100% Anet’s idea and they may be able to get rid of the more ridiculous parts of it.
I have to say, if this becomes another heavily gated MMO that requires previous content to be completed before you can do the next tier I’m out. Even if this is not the case (and I bet they’re not going to have dungeon tiers) there is still the problem of this shifting from skill gating to gear gating. People were being elitist before now and it will only get worse if they’re encouraged with gear gating (which gives people the impression they should aggressively min/max their parties). I’m not sure how they can reverse this trend.
Inappropriate? That seems a like a bit of an exaggeration. They mostly needed to decrease how often they go off (which I think they might have because I don’t hear my character making noises for quite as long after falls and such but I could just be getting used to it).
I do find it odd that t2 light looks better than t3.
Would be nice actually to get the game news in the game rather than looking at the launcher or twitter feed.
That doesn’t look like a player. A trick is to check if you can invite to a party (for next time).
So Mordramoth might be the name of 6th dragon and the sylvari’s master.
Unlikely considering the pale tree being a dragon champion has as much supporting evidence as the pale tree being a creation of melandru.
I wouldn’t mind knowing how many of a specific shade I have unlocked.
Easiest solution would be to swap Druid and take root point costs. It would make more sense and would justify take root having the immunity and turret summon ability. Maybe add a heal turret to compensate for the point increase.
To be fair, the increased the angle for our cone abilities so it doesn’t require the person to hug you to land it on them. They also gave lightning whip the ability to hit three enemies and made it so the ability would miss miss miss less often. Basically they made it so three of our abilities had a reasonable chance of landing unless the person dodges or is good at kiting.
What? Who is complaining? People need to learn that we can teleport to them with a churning earth and stop standing just outside of the range of it. Adapt people. We don’t have permanent stability on and it is a long cast.
One of my Sylvari is inflicted with the lazy eye bug and I would like to correct that one way or another.
Not saying there isn’t an issue, just confirming that those stats are indeed lower.
I think they need to fix the fact that you need 1s to use a waypoint right next to you.
That is the only issue I have. The scaling of cost is a but weird where there is a high cost just for using the system and it slowly scales with distance. I guess this is to avoid having people warp around a zone at high speed while keeping long distance travel at a lower price (since it is a money sink). But it really limits any travel at all because it presents itself as being a bad deal. I don’t know how they could address this without using overly complicated rules (e.g., price increases if you use it frequently based on a timer).
I believe the jump issue is due to the lack of a fall damage reduction for the profession and not the HP. But yes, the profession has the lowest base defense stats.
So we’re going to fight Mothra?
Yup, the Sylvari 10 sp (take root) is great. Immobilizes you but you gain immunity and a bunch of turrets to annoy people. It works well with almost any build so I fear it will get nerfed. I’m hoping they instead address conjured weapon scaling and how our 30 sp is almost a self-cc.
Yeah, it isn’t a huge issue for me either other than the OCD aspect of seeing 4/5 when I’ve done everything else. Hope you guys find a solution and thanks.
@mobbes.6859 that makes sense, I also got the bag achievement from harvest bags.
I’m pretty sure I got the Halloween Huntin’ achievement before any extra tiers. All the other ones I completed over the last few days. Maybe the bags too but I’m not sure.
Normally I’d agree but since this is a limited time event having it be a huge grind would only punish people with more casual playing time. With RNG casuals at least have a chance.
I loved it (I’m a bit sad I had to rely on spoilers to get the books because I didn’t understand how to use the scanner to find places for most of it and didn’t feel I had the time to learn and go search for the places).
I like the pvp games too. First time I joined the inquisition game I was randomly made into a cult member at the start which really confused me to no end (I just want to hug the villagers).
Only thing I felt was grindy was the pumpkins (would be fun if you could choose how to carve them instead of just running by and spamming f).
Tower is also great (beginning after tower blows out a bit annoying with lots of norn and charr blah blah blah).
Oh, and I enjoyed soloing the Mad King (I was there at the cinematic and I just jumped right in without realizing it was a group dungeon -_-).
Overall worth the money I spent on keys (and I didn’t get anything but whatever).

They are the scapegoats.
The people that managed to finish it did it running around with the same norms and chars. The people that cant do it instead of blaming themselves blame the size of the races, that mattered little to nothing to the people that actually completed the puzzle.
People really aren’t blaming the players. But if you have a bunch of huge avatars and the camera freaks out right after the tower blows out at the beginning it can make those next few jumps much much harder. It really is only a small section of the tower that has this issue.
Only suggestion I have is that it would be nice to have fewer people running at the same time. That section after the tower blows out with everyone jumping makes it very hard to track where you are (especially if you have a bunch of charr jumping around you).
Sylvari Elementalist 80, No boost (had to change the color of my bum flower to a bright red so I could see my character between all the charr and norn)
Yup, had this problem when I used to run in Bootcamp (Win 7 Pro 64, if anyone cares).
Workaround: Mouse movement breaks on relogging

Command tabbing back and forth during the first loading screen fixes it too.
I’m also experiencing the “extremely jerky until the entire viewable area is loaded or whatever it is doing” phenomenon as well (e.g. initial load and vistas are extremely jerky).
Setting back to 0 fixes it.

This is weird. Mine is teleporting me back to my start point if i am on a ledge and try to RTL down off the ledge. only about 4 feet down to the ground, not enough to even give falling damage. it reminds me of how mesmer teleport works on Z axis difference teleports now.
Rubberbanding is probably related to server issues.
Also, I actually discovered that if you start Churning Earth in a fire field, you will get 3 stacks of might when it finishes, even if that fire field no longer exists.
I kept wondering where the extra 3 stacks of might was coming from. Thanks for helping me see what should have been obvious there. lol
Good to know it isn’t just Gendarran (although I needed the extra copper ore). Anyone seen the new skritt event (is it even a halloween event)?
I fully expect xmas to involve hanging ornaments off of sylvari and chopping down candy canes now.
I wouldn’t be opposed to everyone getting a single 4 hour skin for fun. Part of the fun for these things is connected to the rarity though (admittedly some things may be too grindy).
Didn’t see this but applying a chill and dodging back can sometimes work too.
