It would probably make more sense to just redesign the current glyph because as it currently is most of the utility comes from the traits that affect all glyphs, not just elemental power.
The way I see it is with the negative feedback they are getting about scarlet and how this story is paced (not talking about 2 week patches) They will learn from their mistakes and only get better… fingers crossed.
Its just a shame the first major villain in the LS is a flop. Disliked by many for the wrong reasons.
We can only hope. The first year of any MMO is usually rocky, since the devs are trying to find a good balance of what is needed and what the players want. In the end, we can only hope that they build on the good ideas and learn from the bad ones.
Though, this in only my opinion, I don’t consider Scarlet a flop yet, since we still don’t know how her story ends, and we haven’t had much time to actually get to know her. I’m hoping that will change when we enter into the next leg of the LS, where we start fighting her on a more personal level, and not just her minions and flavor of the month alliances.
You can’t hate cardboard villain for being cardboard villain after all. Scarlet is as much of a victim of Anet’s writing, and horrible introduction, as everyone else.
The funny thing is they were looking like they were doing better at slowly introducing a main character without being “surprise here is a character you need to automatically care about”. Having the shadowy figure be responsible for multiple invasions was an interesting step and opened up a lot of possibilities (e.g., people who hated Kiel were implicating her). Then they shifted gears and did another “surprise here is a character you should have heard about before but we didn’t bother letting you know”. What makes no sense is that we have both a sneaky and flamboyantly attention seeking version in the same package. Either version of Scarlet would have worked but I don’t see how they can justify both.
Auras are quite strong by themselves. Especially Shock and Magnetic auras. And a stunbreaker never hurts.
Traits will only make this skill better – not only aura traits, but all the glyph traits in Air as well. But anyway, it’s just a suggestion.
I was referring to the glyph as is, not as an aura. Sorry for the confusion there (I should have stated that more clearly). The glyph as an aura wouldn’t be as dependent on traits as the current version is (since you can pick and choose which traits you want).
It is one of those utilities that has to have talents to be worth anything, in my opinion. With talents you can use it to get regen and clear a condition. It does require 2 talents to do this, though.
Mixing T2 and T3 light on female doesn’t really work as well as it used to because the glow is so vastly different (i.e., T2 pants glow on the flower while T3 chest pretty much glows all over the place on the front). I’ve liked the T2 glow for a while now and it sounds like the T3 glow might be more like that in the future (which would be nice).
I’ll have to change some traits around probably (if things still become mutually exclusive). For me it really depends if they change some of our weapon set abilities in addition to the traits. If they do I might consider completely changing my build.
Nice, that would be a considerable buff if it goes through.
Would an arcane ability that effectively slows everything down in a field (basically be chill but not cleanable) work? Work as kind of a soft control spell (since we have no real control elite which is what I think people would like tornado to be more of).
Quite a few Eles go for Sigil of Battle.
The ele suffers from what feels like the class was used as a brainstorming session for every other class. It was the first class to be show cased so it has some of the early ideas (we even keep the idea of bundles getting special effects on occasional lowbie bundles like rocks). Some of our other abilities were just outsourced to other classes (e.g., signets). So we’re kind of this franken monster of different stages of development for the game. They need to eject the old stuff and replace it with things that match the later style for the class. Yeah, I cheated the question.
Actually, I’m betting it is one of the regular TP server barfs. The TP server (it is basically a website) frequently has issues (regardless of platform). They eventually fix it.
Actually it also seems to run better for me. I am still unable to select the best settings (high res textures for example) but it works better. I’d say about 5-10 FPS more on 1920×1080 reaching about 30fps average now.
We’ll never get high res textures because cider is “pretending” to be 32 bit windows (64 bit windows is required). Yes, I’m not technically 100% correct with my wording, so sue me.
As far as Java, I’m pretty sure Guild Wars 2 has nothing to do with Java.
So yeah, while we have some communication, any hints at what is going to happen to conjures? Basically all the conjure traits are worthless and the conjures themselves are only viable in certain instances because you’ve buffed their base so high. Nothing really works well with them.
Yes, people, including myself, complained about over-reliance on water and arcana.
NO, the answer is NOT nerfing water and arcana.
YES, the answer IS giving us viable traits in the other three trait lines so that we have OPTIONS.
Why does ANet not understand that having FIVE VIABLE trait lines is not inherently OP?
It’s not as if we have 150 trait points…
You’re ignoring some obvious issues with our traits. Not only do we have horrible traits that are useless (quite a few actually) but we have traits that are flat out misplaced. We have many builds that utilize multiple adept talents. How does that make sense? Yes, this means they need to nerf the trait line to fix this (either that or buff 90% of our traits which would make us OP). Now, not all of the trait changes were such a great idea or horribly balanced (see the dev basically admitting that). But that doesn’t mean some traits didn’t need to be moved up.
The mantra of just buff everyone to the same level sounds nice in theory but in reality is silly due to the nerfs sometimes being the easiest way to make sure balance doesn’t go completely bananas while you’re trying to fix something.
The base justification for the movement of traits for the most part make sense. It is kind of weird when have people choosing multiple adept level traits in the same line. How they moved them isn’t exactly optimal (as pointed out). So far people are pointing out alternative changes to the traits (to essentially keep the same builds present which is probably what Anet is trying to avoid…so we’re basically arguing something we won’t get). Would changes to utilities and weapon skills make more sense here (e.g., buffing dagger skills)? We didn’t see any weapon skill changes (since that isn’t the point of the post) so would any of the downsides potentially be counteracted with weapon buffs?
Haven’t had any issues (had a “unexpectedly quit” error after I logged out to desktop the first time but that happens occasionally). What specific crash are you getting?
Yeah, Skydrive is a real pig (reason why I stopped using it even though I had space on it). What settings are you running the game at?
Just realized when the patch went live that when I redid my character with the last patch I accidentally dyed myself to look like moldy candy corn.
Anyone care to provide more detail rather than glib one liners? This thread is about as informative as a rigged magic 8 ball.
Do you believe that everyone who sees a problem understands what the problem is? If not do you believe that the ones that are vulgar and toxic have an equal (or better) understanding than those who cooled off before posting?
Being extremely angry is informative, yes. You learned that they are extremely angry. That is useful information but hardly informative if that is all the person posts (you probably don’t need a constant update on the person’s anger).
PS: I think Anet stated their point rather poorly, probably because they too are frustrated.

Yeah, known issue. It has been around since launch (so don’t expect it to ever get fixed so you can be happy when it is). I’d only be worried if it happens more than once a week.
Yeah, I’m leaning towards the Trade Post is just bugged for everyone (Windows included) a lot of the time. Would be nice if they gave us a way to try to re-authenticate (or whatever is the issue that causes the TP to not load) without having to quit and restart.
I would avoid the meme of “[prof whose forum you’re in] is weak, [other prof] is strong”.
It really depends on what you’re doing. 1vX and mobility isn’t exactly a detailed explanation of what you’re going for.
I was kind of amused when they nerfed water instead of buffing/fixing/replacing the broken traits. The reason why water is required is because it has the highest density of traits with decent synergy, not because the traits were overpowered. Arcana is required because everything has such a high cooldown that we need any reduction we can get. You know something is wrong when at least 35 trait points are essentially allocated for you when you go staff, for instance.
The only thing that ever goes down around patches is the auction house/gem store and that is because it just goes down a lot and not because of a patch.
Yeah, crashed during a dragon event again. I think the severity has decreased but the same problem still exists. Doubt this is a mac only issue, though.
I have no idea what you are attempting to say. The client isn’t in beta because they admitted they are not putting any active work in it. One usually would assume that a beta exists to test bugs and fix them. Neither is occurring at any appreciable rate. Laser-hawk bug existed for how many months before a fix? They admitted that the mac client is getting basically zero developer time at PAX. Heck, their official line used to be they don’t officially support the client while it is in beta until it became apparent that the client was never going to leave “beta”.
Do you call this a beta because it is as buggy as one? So if that is your argument, that is exactly what the GameInformer piece is talking about. Slapping a beta label on something and selling it to customers while dodging complaints of bugs by pointing to the beta label should not be acceptable behavior. Yet, that is what we’re seeing. Trying to discredit the article by attacking the author (calling it an opinion) is hardly impressive. Attack the argument. Do you think beta should just mean “the software is buggy” rather than “the software is buggy and we’re taking in feedback from testers to actively fix the bugs”? Note, I don’t think we’re the testers, they’ve made that abundantly clear (and usually public betas you don’t really expect to get great bug reports from the general public). But again, we’ve seen bugs last months and have very little feedback. How can we assume there is any active development when 1) we see very little and 2) they admitted there is very little. I’d like to know your position other than attempting to be cute with definitions.

Your problem is not picking a light character. 90% of our stuff barely covers anything.
I dont really care about him one way or the other. But in my mind Sieran will always be the person in the PS who represented the sylvari. She’s atleast the best example.
Agreed. Also my favorite mentor character. But people seem to dislike her. Wonder if it is because of the whole Trahearne hate parade.

I know it is not as good as some of the other things here. But lets just look at the idea. The greenish flat stuff, is supposed to be moss, and the blue a type of grass. Just really want a short, stylish mohawk.
Blue grass hair. Hah. Good one. Wonder if they could get the density required while keeping movement to make sure it doesn’t look like astroturf.
Yeah, demanding a refund on the forums isn’t exactly the best place to do it. Most you can call for is for them to update the stickies with more accurate information (the support ticket steps were out of date last time I checked) and for them to change the name from beta to something a little more indicative of the apparent development effort level (maybe they were lying during the PAX event and they’re really doing a lot and can’t say…maybe we’ll get free flying pigs too).
I got the usual zerg crash on WvW reset night in a keep but the week before that reset night no crash. So the severity of the bug causing crashing may have been decreased back to historic levels. Dunno.
Here is a link to the “when is a beta not a beta” article. We’re NOT a beta. And they need to STOP pretending we are one. We’re a permanently bugged out release.

Don’t get me wrong, I prefer this over trying to rig up a WINE install myself (and then maintaining it). But they need to make it apparent that they’re basically only doing that for us so no one expects anything with near the polish we expect from Mac apps.
Yeah, made my elementalist shortish and I actually have different flower colors depending on the type of set I’m wearing (with a few different pieces mixed) to help me remember how I’m setup. I hope they give use more flower and color options (make my life easier).
The inverted goatee at the end was great (the hair was too, of course). Hoping they have more fun surprises.
Yes, I was sad when I saw the topic for the day only to not be able to watch it live (thankfully it is up on twitch and youtube). Was informative, fun, and has me waiting to see what you guys release.
Their overall treatment and general lack of communication to us and to even their own moderators/employees on these issues probably comes down to money i.e. mac players don’t buy enough gems with real cash to be considered to even be worth the time..
A few months ago there was a bug that would not allow mac users to buy gems. It was addressed immediately and fixed in a couple of days. It is the only bug I have ever seen openly addressed and in turn fixed in a very short time. So they must want some of our money.
Yup, gem store purchase bug, immediate patch. Laser-hawks…what 6 months? Culling crashes will probably never go away. Glad they finally said something, insulted they basically hid the information and are keeping this farce of a “beta” going. Money grab, pure and simple. Call this a “hobby client”. Really, just be honest with your customers.
Yeah, figured this was the case. They need to make this more apparent now instead of just being in a PAX interview. Rename “mac beta client” to “mac hobby client”. Poof, job done and we all know what to expect.
Yeah, they auto closed my ticket after i redid everything they told me to do (and outlined here) several times. So good to know they’re working on it…yeah…
If ANet had a department over here idd gladly quit my current position and join ANet to help them make an OSX client, if they would have me.
And for the DirectX stuff, I know, OpenGL is hardly a big problem with windows, just check out blizzards games
Blizzard targets both Direct X and OpenGL with their game engines. Which is no small feat at all, as they can be remarkably different (and hair pulling) at times.
Many people in this thread severely underestimate the work required to build a native client, test it and then keep it in sync with upstream changes in the Windows client. This includes every hotfix and patch as well, without impacting their current turnaround times. None of that is free, and given the tiny Mac user-base—likely < 1%—hardly a sensible way to spend time, money and add complexity to development workflow.
Yet they released a beta and implied support. So far support is bare minimum and mostly focused on making sure the gem store works while the game isn’t crashing. I think the main request here is for some form of communication. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly apparent that ArenaNet higher ups believes that developers talking with customers in any sort of meaningful way is bad. Yes, you don’t want to be accidentally over promising. But they already released this “beta” (more like cash grab). They either need to come clean and say “sorry guys, you don’t help the bottom line enough to warrant anything beyond bare minimum support” or they say “yes we’re still working on the mac client, stay tuned”. Silence starts out as being interpreted as “we’re working on it but don’t want to over promise” but will eventually fall into “we have no respect for you at all what so ever now give us more of your money”.
Edit: Nevermind they apparently said option a in a PAX interview. Well, at least we know where we stand. Living story > mac crashes.

EDIT: What I do fully agree with though is that the sexism of the Sons of Svanir and the Flame Legion feels iffy at best. It’s always struck me as at odds with the setting, because an attitude of “one woman did something I didn’t like, therefor I hate all women” implicates an existing prejudice and marginalization in which the group of people in question is not truly seen as individuals but rather as a faceless collective. So if charr and norn culture is egalitarian, where did that all-women-are-the-same-and-they-are-bad spiel come from? When male characters defy a badguy, we don’t see said badguy vilifying the entire male gender. All in all, it’s just weird and completely superfluous — and it limits the use of female charr and norn as villains within their cultural context (though charr women can still be Renegades), AND it more or less equates “villain” with “male” for these two cultures, which isn’t fair to guys either.
I agree that it is unfortunate that two factions are limited in such a way. But the starting opposition is pretty cardboard regardless of race (I mean, torturing puppies, really?). I think it is more of a problem where they felt they needed to have generic bad guys that are your race but that you wouldn’t have a problem killing mindlessly at every turn. So they boiled them down to ridiculous stereotypes (resulting in some pretty silly behavior). This is more of a problem with Anet giving us extremely shallow enemies and not Anet having some sort of gender agenda.
D/D used to be insanely fun back in beta. Then it got nerf after nerf. It is still probably the best way to level just because staff can be a bit trickier to play with all the ground targeting abilities. And unfortunately the traits are just flat out designed poorly. Arcana is required as the class is balanced on our ability to swap attunements as needed. Abilities have higher cooldowns because you have access to 4 attunements but this assumes you can swap attunements as needed so a lower swap cooldown is disproportionately powerful compared to other trait stats. Yada yada. And water just has a lot of good traits. Sorry for the complaining, just needed to vent about the bad stuff. But yeah, experiment. There is a lot of possibility for weird builds (most of them not so good).
I have to admit, Scarlet making fun of us for farming mindlessly is kind of funny (even people like me doing it for achievements and not loot…we’re still farming). The game is having a burst of self-awareness.
I like the mechanic over all for learning. If something kills you you get a chance to get back up and try again without having to run back and restart everything from scratch. So good for PvE. I’m not sure about in PvP as the downed abilities aren’t exactly balanced.
The female sylvari drunk lines are pretty good (wish they’d put them in when you get drunk off items and not just from spell effects).
Eh, I preferred Sieran (it is pretty funny to look at the disparity between the wiki entries when a lot of the content is available for both, e.g. the avenging thing).
Good point, we had refugees for Flame and Frost, why is the most we get after Scarlet invades (again) her laughing when you try to enter the gauntlet without first running a few invasion events first? Reminds me of when during Dragonbash they still had the two random people near the holoprojector talk about waiting for the next festival to see one…uhhh…guys…you’re in one right now…
We’re getting SAB again here in a bit and it is still Summer last time I checked. Yeah, I’m anticipating it won’t be junk. So sue me. I mostly was pointing out Southsun as a contrast for what is good and what is bad and how they are for the most part progressing in quality (sorry that I didn’t make that clearer).
Sorry, anyone who thinks that they can leave the game, come back and pick right up where they left off is delusional. (this is not directed at the OP, but in general). Unless you simply run dungeons, sprawl out into the world or level characters…you will be left behind. You will mis out on lots of content, lots of temporary dungeons, lots of GOLD and currency farming(ahem pavilion and invasions), lots of minis, etc.
This game wanted to be a game where you can pick up whenever you wanted, so badly. It is the exact opposite.
I still enjoy the game, but if I dare take one month off and miss one or two LS patches, Im so behind in terms of the gold farming that has become the flavor of the month.
It is far more of a pick up and play game then other MMOs. Gear isn’t that hard to get and gear upgrades are often negligible (having all ascended items isn’t a significant power upgrade outside of the ability to get agony resist for fractals which was put in to keep the gear treadmill raiders happy). Most MMOs if you don’t pick up right at the launch or launch of an expansion you’re out of luck as far as the ability to play. If you had an 80 with good gear and left only to come back months later you’re still good to go. The most you missed was some cosmetic gear. (Note, this doesn’t apply to fractals which, again, was put in for the people who like the gear treadmill…the WvW abilities are a minor factor but do not significantly impact your ability to play the game).
What exactly are you farming gold for? Seriously. What are you trying to get? All necessary items are relatively abundant and cheap. The only things expensive and rare are for things like legendaries which are intended to be very rare (how legendaries are and should be acquired is another argument entirely).
