Yeah, best racial leader (Jennah is a close second). I knew this was coming and I was frankly half expecting them to just off her then and there and have the Sylvari look for Malyck’s tree in the second half of the season.

Do only Sylvari see Caithe? I mean she walks right in front of you if you stand near Taimi after the procession. She is standing just south of the gate before that, really hard to miss. She completely vanished after that, though.

I doubt she would be responsible unless she snapped since we last saw her. She seems to want to protect the pale tree every other time in the past, I have no idea why she’d suddenly want to kill the pale tree when she had plenty of opportunity in the past.

Yosemite Beta

Indeed. I’m not really sure why there is so much hate here. Lets not attack each other personally, guys. It is pointless and just makes everyone look bad.

Anyway, back to the subject of Yosemite. Honestly, I wouldn’t install it on your only machine at this point if you don’t have good backups. A time machine backup is okay but you also have to account for how you want to do backups of Yosemite that won’t overwrite the backup of your previous, non-beta OS. This means multiple backups. Additionally, you have to also account for how much time it will take to recover from a bug. There have been reports of entire drives being messed up due to a flaw in partitioning.

I’m not saying don’t install Yosemite, just be aware that things going wrong are more likely and it is even more likely that other beta software (lets call GW2 mac client a beta because whatever) will not work either. Just because it is a “public” beta doesn’t mean there won’t be significant bugs (it is literally one build away from the last dev release). Heck, even x.×.0 OS releases can be buggy (anyone remember the bug where Filevault 1.0 nuked drives?). I think everyone can agree to be careful when installing a new OS and be careful with beta software.

We should probably stop conflating out of beta and native client. Lots of games are cider ports and are not consider beta (e.g., EVE Online, Star Trek Online, The Sims 3…I believe basically every Ubisoft and EA game actually).

The reason why we won’t leave beta is because of the level of support they want to give us. With the beta label they can pretend that a subpar level of support is justified (even though if it was a true beta they would be talking to us…the supposed testers way way more than they are). Yes, google perverted the term beta to mean “here is something with no support” rather than “here is an in development piece of software that we’ll be giving you regular status updates about and would like your help testing”.

I’m not playing on a mac yet, i have one on order, but I see a lot of requests to fix the crashes in large mobs in WvW. I have the same problem playing the game in Windows. My screen locks up or I get an error pop-up and have to exit the game. This might not be just a mac specific issue.

I normally play along with my brother who uses a mac mini. I seem to lock up more with my Windows machine than he does.

It isn’t, it just happens more frequently on Macs and at lower video settings due to it being a cider port (that pretends to be 32bit windows).

I would avoid buying an iMac right now as they seem to be end of life (stock of iMacs in stores is very low).

And probably one of the biggest upgrades you can get for GW2 performance is a Fusion drive (or just an SSD). It really cuts the load times.

Okay, there seems to be some confusion as for as what “jumping” is. Here is the first post:

I have always had a problem with jumping in games,(I can’t jump) and and find it extremely unfair that so much GW2 content is tied to jumping.
Now I find out that the Living Story Season 2 is going to force me to have to use all the Zephyrite jumping skills?!? That is just horribly unfair.

“[I] find it extremely unfair that so much GW2 content is tied to jumping” implies that all jumping is the problem and not just skills that propel the character forward.

If skills that propel the character are the issue, they’ve been pretty heavily featured in quite a few character skill-sets from the start.

I really do not understand how you can make the argument that jumping or skills that move the character vertically are new. They aren’t. That argument was made by the post:

If I wanted to play a jumping game, I’d play Mario not GW2…..

That is the point I am referring to when I’m expressing confusion.

And my point is that your metric is flawed as far as what you’re classifying as option and what is mandatory. For instance, you can still level to 80. And you could not complete the Flame and Frost story if you couldn’t jump accurately (the story instance would not be passable if your entire group died to the bosses that required significant amounts of jumping).

My point is, I understand your point that you would like to participate without having to jump. I’m not taking issue with that point. I’m taking issue with the point where you seem to say that the jumping skill requirement is somehow new. It is not.

Agree, they need to improve the bamboo collision if they want to keep using it. It isn’t just sliding off the bamboo, but sometimes the box for the bamboo is much much larger than it looks (e.g., first time I tried the dive goggle I successfully cleared the bamboo only for the server to say I hit it when I was a good 2 yards away from hitting any piece of it). I’m okay with precision platforms but the bamboo lacks contrast to help you see them. It turned into a game of trial and error to find where I could land without sliding.

You seemed to be claiming that jumping was a new thing for Guild Wars 2. I was pointing out that Guild Wars 2 has had a heavy focus on jumping for a long time now. Another example is from the Flame and Frost enemies where you had to precisely time your jumps or you get damaged (sometimes severely).

The game’s focus on precise character movement is hardly new. We should instead be focusing on the problems with a specific implementation and not the overall theme of the game while pretending the game has fundamentally shifted in design (it hasn’t).

I am sorry that you cannot do more precise movements. I know someone who cannot either and would like to play this game with me but cannot. He doesn’t blame the game developer for making a game that requires precise movement, though.

I think where some of the confusion may be coming from here is that people do not consider the mechanic check at the start to be a jump puzzle but rather a tutorial on how to use crystals. Perhaps if we instead focused on how to make the tutorial have a lower skill check (e.g., watch NPCs use the crystals like how you can watch NPCs block and time strikes in the human starter zone).

The requirement of vistas for zone completion should have been a tip off that some ability to move in 3 dimensional space accurately was likely going to be required for some aspects of the game.

As far as I can tell those aren’t real tokens, they’re there to block you from buying it if you don’t have the correct reputation level for the repeating zone wide event but still allow you to browse the items.

Essentially, you can buy tier 1 and lower when the zone is at tier 1 progression. You can then buy tier 2 and lower when the zone is at tier 2 progression and so on. The zone progression resets after the sandstorm is over because apparently sand causes amnesia or something.

The average length of an ?dachi is 65–70 inches long (approx 165–178 cm), often with a 4–5 foot blade. This made them unsuitable for close-quarters combat. Instead, they are commonly believed to have been used by fighters on horseback, as the blade length would allow them to take down infantry (without risk of being pulled off their mount).

Mounted combat confirmed!

And the “forced jumping” was really basic stuff …
You shouldn’t worry about this for future episodes, only reason it was in this time was to continue the zephyrite theme, since they crash landed there.

And specifically, the forced part was the tutorial where they were teaching people how to use the crystals in case they were new. The rest of the zone has very little usage of the crystals beyond the scavenger hunt and jumping puzzle parts. If anything it means they need to work on how they present tutorials more than anything else.

You guys realize all the chatting is probably because we complained that early in season 1 we didn’t have enough information and that Scarlet came out of nowhere, right? They need to work on the scripting tech a bit as it doesn’t seem like the characters can walk and talk at the same time (they seem to mostly move to an area, stop, talk, and repeat). But I don’t really have any problems with the amount of exposition they’re giving us and how they’re giving it to us especially considering this is the opening act that needs to get everyone on the same page.

I’ll give you lightning pull being buggy (it always has had chance of launching you over the target). But the rest of the mechanics are okay.

Regarding forced mechanics, I’m not sure I fully understand here. The bar for passage is fairly low for the required parts (e.g., the sun sprint part has a wall so you cannot overshoot if you don’t stop the sprint fast enough). GW2 has always been more of a skill/twitch based game (e.g., the dodge button being an important part of surviving fights). I’m not sure how this is a drastic shift from what GW2 has had for primary content for a while now.

I spent a few hours on my mesmer helping people up to the goggles and advising them how to complete the achievement. Most people got it on the second or third try. A couple people took a try or two more. One person quit after one attempt (they didn’t listen to me and sort of jumped in a random direction).

I think the difficulty level is pretty appropriate and it encourages group play. Of course if they make all sylvari evil I might have to start telling people to jump in the completely wrong direction or warping them into thin air.

Command shift 4 then pressing space is the command to take a picture of an element of the UI (e.g., a window or menu). Command shift 3 is the only one that will work in GW2.

Edit: I told you the system wide commands, Trogdor told you how to use the built in functionality in GW2. Either works.
