Should condition application be personal?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Namica.2951

I was just wondering this, condition builds suffer heavily outside of PvP due to their nature of the damage going to whomever in group has the highest condition damage (so having two condition players would always be a waste).

Would it really hurt balance if some, if not all, damage conditions were applied personally. That is, one person can apply 25 bleeds, and another person can apply their own 25? It seriously stifles build creativity when players are locked out of an entire component.

Use real cash ,buy exp boost and gems.Use gems to buy crafting item.Insta craft yourself to lvl80.That is what crafting do.

Exp boosts doesn’t increase your experience gain via anything but killings enemies.

@OP

Why do you need to rush to level 80?

Queens Gauntlet

Another way : Waypoints discovery.
Equip skills that give swiftness and blocks, and run between waypoints.

Plus you will be happy to have all waypoints available when you reach 80.

That’s also a very good way.

By the way I don’t suggest you to go to Queen’s Pavillon at lv 30. There’s mob lv 84+.

It scales you to 80.

Fastest way is lvling normally throught PvE. BEvare even on lvl 30,starter zones will give you approx 15 levels.
So go to Metrica, Caledon, Queensdale, that charr starter zone and Wayfarer.
When you do this zones you will be approx lvl 70 and these zones are just easy ones.

I’ll do this. I’d be nice to do the Asura and Sylvari ones anyway, considering I’ve never done’em.

Just curious…

Thieves and Warriors dang near required to have bows on their person.

Well, I have bows on those two classes, so OK, but I almost never use them. Where do you see these being used?

Guardians should always have a staff on.

Other than TA Ex for blossoms, I would never slot a staff on my guardian. Why do you say that?

Ranger bows are rather meh in most cases. Ranger melee on the other hand is amazing.

I agree that ranger bows are poorly designed for some game modes, notably a lot of PvE. How is ranger melee amazing? Is it because its damage is better than bow? I find the GS to be slow, and sword 1 the most frustrating #1 melee skill in the game.

Elementalist’s running around in short range with daggers.

OK, now that is odd, but it’s way more fun than staff or scepter.

Odder still that the general consensus at the moment is that Ranger is getting a staff soon.

I remember using staff on ranger in GW for BM or trapper builds. However, the general consensus where?

I see bow on warrior and thief constantly. A shortbow is an absolute must for just about any Thief build due to easy spammable blast finisher and combo fields. Warrior bows are just highly effective and very strong and allow a massive amount of burst on a Warrior due to stacking blast fire fields.

Staff Guardian, I’ve yet to find a decent Guardian that didn’t carry one: huge aoe, decent healing, and most importantly the best buff in the game.

Ranger Swords are rather powerful, highest single target DPS on a ranger is longsword 1, and it’s greatsword just brings a lot of goodness. Not saying its bad thakittens strong, but when it comes down to it, the longsword is no doubt better than say, warriors, and the greatsword for ranger is more involved.

As far as stakitten for ranger goes. First: I’ve seen it argued quite heavily here in the GW2 forums. Second: a-net said no on ever having guns or pistols for Ranger. Which leaves maces, and various magical weapons like scepter or staff. And the magical stuff fits their nature theme.

Looking at the current status of weapons in this game, it seems really… odd.

Thieves and Warriors dang near required to have bows on their person. Guardians should always have a staff on.

Ranger bows are rather meh in most cases. Ranger melee on the other hand is amazing.

Elementalist’s running around in short range with daggers.

I don’t know. It seems the most effective weapons for certain classes don’t really fit the archtype that I imagine many think when they see them. I certainly find it odd that if I want to focus strongly on using a bow (I love bows) I shouldn’t pick ranger. Or if I want the most effective swords, I should go with Ranger over Warrior.

That said, I do like the variety of things you can do with classes when compared to to other MMO. I just find the use of some of them rather odd in cases. Odder still that the general consensus at the moment is that Ranger is getting a staff soon.

I wanted preparations and traps, with bows and melee. We got “condition beastmaster, or gtfo.” I hold no hope left for the ranger ever being what it could have (should have?) been.

This. I suppose there are what? One or two decent builds for each aspect of the game? If you don’t like spirits you’re sol.

no, rangers wont be viable until a new expansion comes. Thats simple:
The actual meta is full conditions, and ranger condition build is totality nerfed, why will you use a ranger having a necro? no sense.

Why you dont see “power” ranger? easy, to make dmg with a power build you need to be glass cannon. And only thief can go glass cannon (stealth). That is why mesmers, warriors, rangers cant be in the new meta.

PD: A thief with bow does more dmg than ranger with bow, WTF? please give ranger the “blink” skill on thief bows. thanks.

There will be no expansion, a-net has said this.

And yeah, is a tad odd that Thief bow is better than Ranger bow. I imagine Thief will only pull further ahead if the rumors are true and they get a Rifle as a weapon, and the Ranger gets a staff (since a-net has said no guns or pistols for rangers).

As was said, Ranger plays like a Warrior with a pet, and honestly, has more fun melee weapons itself. How does this make sense?

Namica.2951

Let’s not beat around the bush. As far as PvE is concerned, Ranger is the weakest class all around, bringing ok utility to others, which is over shadowed almost completly by their complete reliance on pets which account for a massive chunk of their damage, and even when payed attention to carefully, die constantly destroying our damage in its entirety (not to mention they can’t hit moving targets).

Do you think rangers will ever be fixed? Or is this just a pipe dream? I mean, it’s common knowledge what the problem is, even among the other classes, but I doubt a-net will ever say, give a no pet option considering its a class mechanic. It’d be like having a no initiative option for Thieves, or a no adrena~ oh wait, warriors have incentives in their traits for not having adrenaline…

None the less! do you see a fix coming ever? Or will ranger always be on the bottom of the totem pole for group viability?

Just curious of people opinions here, what would you say are the least and most favorite classes of the game?

Myself, I find Guardian and Warrior to both be boring as can be. Boring utilities, boring weapon skills. Just a big pile of Zzzzz

I love Thief and Ranger though. Thief for it’s resource mechanic and variety of weapons, as well as utilities that actually feel important. Ranger because I like the variety the pets bring, and I simply enjoy using longbow and greatsword (has all the things I like in a melee and range weapon: huge gap closer, a block, hard hitting CD move for melee. Rapid fire attack, blowback, and aoe arrow rain for bow).

Never played much of the casters or engineer though, save for once or twice in the mists.

If you were using less than optimal builds, then guess what? It was like doing GW2 dungeons with less than optimal builds: can be quite difficult.

Actually, there were some parts of the game that were challenging. When Prophecies was released, Thunderhead Keep was hard; when Nightfall was released and the Domain of Anguish was implemented, it was hard, too. Earning all mission bonuses in Dzagonur Bastion was difficult, too, as it was earning all bonuses on Raisu Palace.

Keep in mind that there has been A LOT of power creep in the game. And ArenaNet just nerfed the difficulty of some areas as well. But there were some things that, originally, were hard.

I suppose it’s a matter of opinion. I remember doing Thunderhead keep. I remember destroying it. It was all a matter of each person in the group having at least one strong damage mitigation ability, and focusing targets down. Heck, thata almost what it always came down to: spiking enemies one at a time.

Can’t speak for Nightfall, I took a break when it was released and didnt come back till EotN. But Raisu palace was much the same as thunderhead: dont be stupid, focus down one at a time.

My larger point in all this, is that many people say that GW2 is easy, and that “Well you’re using a optimal spec” is a poor excuse. Well the same applied to GW1: us an optimal spec, everything was easy. If you didn’t, it became far harder. Same happens in GW2. For instance, when was the last time you had a range damage dealer in your group in GW2? I imagine for most it’s been awhile, since they’ll only allow those really effective builds in their groups, and then complain about how easy things are.

Namica.2951

What makes the game shallow to me is the atmosphere it breathes (or rather doesn’t) and the ridiculously childish storyline and voice acting.

The second thing is that instead of adding actual content, GW2 has brought out only party events and living story crap that comes and goes: nothing substantial however and it’s the lack of substance that makes the game feel superficial or shallow.

They’ve so far added a few rather large scale events with smaller ones peppered all about. They can’t do a Flame and Frost or a Secret of Southsun constantly. It requires a lot more work than putting in a few minigames and a few quality of life changes. Can you name any other MMO that has updated this frequently? What would you consider “actual content”? Are Fractals not actual content? Guild Missions? The various PvP additions? New armors and weapons aren’t content?

I’ve been leveling a new guardian for the fun of it. I am level 60 and bored with leveling. So I thought I’d make a thief….Level 4 and already bored. Why? Because the leveling is the most repetitious I’ve ever seen in any game. Events and hearts are all the same no matter where you are and since you go to areas of different races to get xp, rolling another race doesn’t help much cause you’ve done those areas before.

I mean, what’s the difference if you have to defend a village against centaurs or undead or nightmare court? Exactly, it’s the same thing, just a different looking enemy.

And that’s why the game feels shallow. Some people call this game a themepark MMO. I think that makes sense, but once you’ve been in the same ride 20 times, it really gets boring. Sadly you have to do that same ride 100 times to get to level 80 and without the back up of a convincing atmosphere and a great story behind it, not to mention a crappy reward system, it just feels like senseless repetition.

Of course you’re going to get bored doing the same zones multiple times. It’s a video game, it can’t have an infinite amount of content. Did you play through prophecies multiple times without getting bored? Because it was far more streamlined and lacking in variety than the GW2 leveling experience.

All games have repetition, but it’s that feeling of senselessness that makes it just shallow, superficial. And in GW1 we did have a better story and atmosphere and even though the combat system was simplistic as well, it was just simply more interesting because of the freedom of choices and your choices instantly mattered..you could tell the difference in combat clearly and you really did need different things for different areas.

And you can tell the difference between differing people in GW2 as well. Or are you saying that, for example, a Hammer Warrior is the same as a Long Sword Warrior?

I think that is the big difference in GW1 and GW2…In GW1 I felt that choices I made actually mattered, in GW2 I don’t feel that at all and that’s why it feels so shallow.

Oh and just an example: In GW2 you can make choice in the story line and you might argue that therefore choices do matter, but they don’t. The main story is still the same and whichever choice you make still gets you from A to B, so again you have choices but for the overall picture they don’t matter as the effect is, well, superficial.

When did the story in GW1 ever change based on player choices?

i was kind of hoping they were going to go with a system where you could choose a weapon that would have a selection of skills to choose from (much like the utility and heal slots) and then the trait system would allow us to augment the skills we chose allowing some really interesting build design. the current trait system just has a few too many % increase talents. the really interesting ones are the ones that change the way we can use a weapon. like the engi flamethrower trait that makes it very tanky.

Agreed, the game could use more variety in it’s traits, and the devs have said they’re working on this (and from what I’ve seen so far, a-net has been fairly honest concerning the things they say).

Though I do believe that there is only so much you can do with each particular class. Add to many traits like the Engi flamethrower one and the game simply becomes to bloated. Need to remember that traits are passive, add to many that do to much and people will feel completly forced into using certain ones.

For most classes there are only so many ways to skin a cat with 10+5 skills (or effectively less in active use).

There is also a lack of resources to manage besides dodge. There is also not much in terms of CC and CC breaking abilities compared to some of the older games like EQ, WoW and others that actually demanded you use close to 20-30 unique skills per fight in structured PvP.

If you take the most complex class in WoW, the druid, you cannot map it to anything in GW2; a class with that kind of stance, resource and cooldown management simply does not exist in GW2.

People would often disparage the hunter class in WoW due to its ease of simplicity for rotations, but even hunters had far more skills in active use in PvP than even a competent Engineer/Elementalist in GW2… and sadly the most trivial PvE one-button rotations are the norm in GW2.

As far as EQ goes, only a small handful of classes had any real meaningful CC, and that was their entire job. Many other classes, most of them, had little to nothing in the way of CC. Combat itself was also rather slow paced and simple: relying far more on getting a large group of people with proper gear than anything else. If you’re going to tot around a game for the sake of it’s complexity, EQ is not that game.

As a player coming from WoW, I can safely say that the amount of CC in the game has been hurting it for years now, and the huge button bloat has done nothing much more than lead to an environment when you have abunch of button that are just there for space filler that don’t really do much. This is especially true for Druid and Hunter, oddly enough, who have a great deal of abilities that could all just be bound to one button if not for GCD, and can definitely be bound into a cast sequence because they’re just so danged use and forget.

The second thing is that instead of adding actual content, GW2 has brought out only party events and living story crap that comes and goes: nothing substantial however and it’s the lack of substance that makes the game feel superficial or shallow.

I’m sorry but this post is complete BS GW1 at times was to easy, and hell that happens with having so much build diversity but they did patch it and fix it and get people to create new builds to farm, i honestly can’t believe you’re trying to tell me and the rest of the community that there was no challenge in GW1.

I am telling you this. GW1 was not hard. The occasional hard mode (added 2 years after release) maybe. But the games various dungeons and story mode missions? Not in the least unless you were using less than optimal builds (which were easy to put together).

If you were using less than optimal builds, then guess what? It was like doing GW2 dungeons with less than optimal builds: can be quite difficult.

I wouldn’t say shallow, just a bit simplistic.

To an extent, yes. I would say it can be simple at times. But many go on and on about how it lacks -any- depth, which is just false. Same people also tend to say that GW1 had this huge amount of depth, when in reality it just had a mountain of skills that tended to only be useful when a-net decided to buff them and were rather mindless in their application.

That and this sort of genre is pretty much based around simplicity. What action game isn’t rather simple? Even the exalted on high Dark Souls is easy to the point where soloing it without leveling up and going about naked is rather possible for many players once you understand what you need to be doing.

That said the ease of GW2 comes from the same source as GW1: damage mitigation.

GW1, you had a healer. Things pretty much died left and right and there was no danger. GW2, you figure out how to dodge a bosses or a mobs moves, and you’re set. It’s an MMO, it’s a video game: there is little choice here on making the game more compelling. They give the mobs more passive, unavoidable stuff like in say, EQ or WoW, and you’ll need a healer because you simply can’t last. You give them more instant kills or harder hitting things, and those with poor latency can’t play, and at times it’ll just come down to luck.

What do people truly expect to make GW2 more difficult? I hear many saying its shallow, its easy, but seldom are there any suggestions on fixing this percieved issue other than suggestions which typically wouldn’t fix this percieved issue, but rather move it: for example a common request if for a return to healers and/or tanks. All thats doing is shifting responsibility from the players to a handful of individual players which in the long run would likely make things even easier.

Can anyone even imagine a truly hard action game? The only ones that ever come to mind are those with dodge or block systems, that, when mastered make things easy. Sound familiar?

I can’t help but think that many people posting about how shallow GW2 is and how amazing GW1 was, are either:

A. Playing one of the classes of GW2 that are easy (and are likely made to be so)
and/or
B. Played GW1 with either crappy builds, or are just plain wearing nostalgia goggles.

I played GW1 from release. I was in the various beta weekends, and I got a lot out of that game. But really, it was never that difficult. Many classes had -very- little variability in their builds even when you took into account their secondary. Warriors, Rangers, Necromancers, Monks etc… were all very easy to play. And the dungeons were too (heck, many may remember how many people built their character around making auto attack do everything… and how stupidly effective it was. If my warrior didnt have something that upped my swing speed, I was hurting myself a lot). The only difficulty that ever came of the dungeons in GW1 was getting a healer, and not accidentally pulling to many mobs. Not a thing more. This didn’t really change much when hard modes became a thing, aside from making it so you couldn’t just roll your face around the keyboard: had to hyper focus and, at least in my experience, use less, but hyper effective, skills.

Now, speaking on the classes of GW2: I will freely admit some of them are fairly simple in use. Notably, Warrior, Guardian, and to some extent Necromancer and Ranger. But the others, especially Elementalist and Engineer, really shine in the hands of a competent player in comparison to bad one. This is true for PvP and PvE both.

It’s also rather hypocritical to say you’re forced into one build in GW2 while in the same breath praising GW1: where over powered super builds were the name of the game from DAY ONE. Calling GW2 shallow based on hyper focused trait, sigil, and rune usage is the exact same as calling GW1 shallow based on the various fotm builds that plagued GW1 throughout it’s entire life (and really only got worse with time).

To be fair, yes, GW1 did of course have more variability in it’s builds, but it also had severely more skill overlap between classes and even -in- classes to the point where looking at the skills of GW1 is rather misleading when compared to GW2. Go ahead and take a look, see how many skills are pointless. How many pretty much do the exact same as another skill. How many were rather passive in use (ignite arrows for instance).

Does the game need more traits? Yes. More utilities? Of course. No game should ever stop improving and giving options (and the devs said this will be a focus of the game from now on). But to call the game shallow based on making it shallow, while also comparing it to another game that was just as shallow, if not more so, is hypocritical and foolish. I played a Warrior through most of my time in GW1. I cleared the games PvE content, and the most I ever needed in my build aside from a chain of weapon skills that I always mindlessly used in succession, was a tactics skill that was needed for one specific use, depending on the dungeon. Warrior in GW2, despite being no doubt the simplest of classes, is far more involved than my GW1 Warrior was. Same could be said comparing my old Ranger to my new ranger, or even my old assassin to my new thief.

Give GW1 another play if you feel the need. If you have friends, invite them along. Get rid of your PvE only abilities, and try your hand at the games PvE. I imagine it’s going to come out a lot easier than you remember.

On an organized basis? Charr. Their strength lies in their ability to work together as a unit. Norn on the other hand, lore wise, seldom work together. I mean jeez, they walked one at a time into the dragon because each one wanted the glory for themselves. That’s how Norn society works.

Charr are no doubt better with technology. The issue with Asuran is that they’re better with magic. As it was said earlier, a golem is more in common with a flame effigy than a technological marvel.

Charr also do make some rather advanced stuff: Look at the Iron Legion personal storyline where you make a gun that banishes ghosts. Or some of the events: like making the ghost capturing stick.

When it comes down to it, all Asuran are doing is applying magic on a large scale. Without it they’d be no better than Norn.

Armor Variety: We need less skirts and coats

in Suggestions

Posted by: Namica.2951

Namica.2951

I don’t mean just for Medium armor either (since people often bring up the huge numbers of coats for medium armor), the armors in the game have FAR to many skirts and coats.

Heavy armor: Only three heavy armor leggings lack a skirt:
Heavy Plate
Plated
Aetherblade

Medium Armor: Medium armor is in another direction, only two chest items lack a skirt or coat:
Leather (duelist for PvE)
Gem shop Krytan

Light Armor: Light armor has a staggering -two- choices for armor without a skirt, and it’s leg.
Embroidered
Gem Shop Profane

I mean, I get the reasoning: A-net has this nice little system where skirts move around nicely. But, to only have only TWO choices light and medium armor class. and one in the heavy, that lack one? That’s horrible. I really have no desire to collect any more gear because I simply hate the skirt look. GW1 had oh so many options lacking skirts and coats, but in GW2, it’s on everything.

And yes, its the same for cultural.

They should have just brought the fellblade over to GW2 exactly how it was in GW1. Instead they turned it into a greatsword and now that we are getting the appropriate size for it, its covered in pink stuff.

I suppose they needed a greatsword skin and well… there are no greatswords in GW1.

What will they do for 1st year Anniversery?

Well, it’ll be one year of GW2 in less than a months time (Aug 28th). Do you think a-net will have anything big for it?

I’m on the positive thinking side that each class will get a weapon or two added to what they can use.

Warrior Or Thief?

Warrior for easier, slower paced gameplay and less utility variety.

Thief for harder, faster paced gameplay and more utility variety.

It’s really that simple. Warrior is this big, bulky brute of a class. Very simple to figure out and play.

Thief is more lithe and fast paced. A lot more involved no matter what you’re doing.

Norn female is too pretty. Yeah, you read it right !

Don’t forget that even in IRL, males and females have much different body types (unless they’re obese, then they start to look the same).

I’m fine with how my Norn looks. It’s a nice bit of fantasy and they certainly made them the most rugged of females (sans a few Charr faces).

Brainstorming Norn racials.

I think it’s no secret that Norn got the short end of the stick when it comes to racials. Their utility racials are
Boring: Oh wow, summoning beasts that aren’t even based on Norn backstory.
and
Weak: Seriously, Owl is a just plain low damage. Wurm is much the same.
and
Lazy: The engineer skills are both “eat an egg”, and we’re the only race that doesn’t get any effects on our utilities that may make them at least somewhat useful.

Then you have the Elites:
They all lower your damage. You can’t heal. Most consider only the Leopard any useful due to it’s stealth

Not to mention they’re lazily designed in the first place. Take a look at all four, here’s something you’ll see a lot:
Attack
Growl/Roar/Shriek/Snarl to weaken foes/strengthen allies
Attack something multiple times
Charge/Pounce/Swoop on the enemy.

You think Charr would like it if all three of their elites were Warband support but each one based on a different Legion? If Human elites were all Avatar of X god following the same format as our forms? I don’t think so.

But I digress. Why our racials are crappy is rather well known. Here should be brainstormed how to make them better. So post your own ideas here on how you’d change things.

I’m not much for ideas myself, can only think of one:
——————————————————————————————————

Utilities:
Spirit of the Wild: Summon your Guardian Spirit of the Wild to Protect you and fight by your side
Essentially summon a spirit based on what you chose at character creation (if this isn’t possible from a technical standpoint, a random one of the four). When summoned it’ll give a roar that gives you a very short term buff.

Viability of 1 handed Sword in PvE.

I’m making a new character, and I’ve gotten down classes choices to Warrior or Guardian, and I just can’t decide on which. I have various things I like about both, and wont be getting into that here.

Mostly, I was wondering of the PvE viability of 1 handed sword for Warrior. 1 handed Sword because it’s my favorite weapon model wise, and I’d of course like to use it. PvE, because I already know plenty about PvP, from my needing to know how to counter certain types when playing it (dont need to know as much about others classes in PvE).

Pic is what I hope to eventually look like. Kurzick for life.

Why do people say that Thief is only good in WvWvW as a roamer? I’ve done a fair bit of work as a large scale debuffer. It may not be as direct as say, Warrior or Guardian, but it serves an important purpose if done right.

Rifle for Thief

Agreed. A rifle for Thief feels right, since the class is trying to fill the generalized “Don’t be seen and fight dirty” niche.

I will say that, as far as your suggestion goes, only Sniper Shot or Aimed shot should be move, not both. To redundant. Perhaps something that applies a debuff, or at least works with fields so a rifle spec could be competitive with shortbow.

Was just curious of this, what is your favorite class, and why? Feel free to split the choice between PvE and PvP, as I know many people like one class for one but not the other.

Me? I love Thief. Fast paced, various weapon combinations all play very differently (whereas, when playing other classes I feel the weapons are all rather similar), a wide range of utilities, most of which aren’t generic buffs, and its very easy to get around quickly.

I will say, I haven’t done much dungeons with the class though. Infact, I haven’t done any in… heck, 8 months I think it’s been? And it was just story modes, and I died a lot. Suppose I’ve been afraid to get at them ever since, still on the last part of my personal storyline (oh crap I’m ranting).

Fun for PvP too, just because its fun to screw with people and you never die unless you want to.
