The issue regarding stealth that I mentioned earlier relates to a thief stealthing, then before they are even visible again to the enemy client they are able to inflict enough damage to win the fight.
That is the problem. And it largely ties into the rendering issue with large scale pvp.
Thieves not rendering got my vote… going from 100% to 20% to an invisible foe = broken
Who here knows the mechanics of stealth and thief? Im judging no one above.
The first hit from stealth is pretty much always for free and invisible and usually a backstab or backstab combo.A fully geared backstab that takes down another glass cannon with no toughness and no orbs and has the HP of a rabbit (or under lvl 80) is perfectly normal.
There are to many glass cannons saying they die to quickly…… thats the issue. Glass cannon is the thiefs favorite prey
I assume you play a thief, and therefor haven’t noticed it.
Spvp and wvw are different. Loading issues in mass pvp, and even when alone if the wvw world is lagging a bit, mean you don’t render after you break your stealth. 4-5s of “loading” invis every time you break your stealth.
Its an issue of visual culling and lag. Again, even with SSD here. There is often a large delay, or as mentioned server side culling.Yes I play a thief, and Ive killed 3000 people in WvW, a large part of them thiefs. And I didnt use stealth in my build. (Withdraw and RoI)
I have not noticed a rendering issue when killing thiefs that use stealth so must be something your end
Ive only died once from a thief in under two seconds: He used a back stab combo on me but was still able to get him to 5% health in 2 moves before i dropped in about a second flat as i saw him first and took the first move
Looked on youtube… No videos of this rendering issue either and no posts by dev acknowledging it. And lets be fair to Anet…. They acknowledge the issues players have raised pretty well

The fact ur saying a full glass cannon thief should have more survivability than a full toughness ele makes ur argument fail. The point I was making is a full glass cannon ele dies in 1 or 2 hits. A full glass cannon thief can live. Even as full toughness on an ele oir dmg sux and we get little survivability from it. Again ur comparisons fail.

doesn’t matter if you use a range pet or not… they are a non factor in pvp.

A mobile player wont get hit by a ranged pet, just like they wont get hit by range projectiles from say a long bow.
Did you forget that the player controlled pet attack takes like several seconds of wind up? Or how bout the fact that your pet can be downed extremely fast.

Took a couple of days to get debugging in on this. It is in fact a 40ms difference which equates to about 7% less damage when spamming 1. We made this change because it was creating some animation bugs to leave it where it was. It was also encouraging just spamming 1 which isn’t the most fun gameplay. If our data shows shortly that shortbow is now not effective we can certainly address that, but would do so by improving other skills on that weapon rather than by reintroducing the spam on 1 and the bugs that it was creating.
Soooo because 1 spam, was considered…. not fun in your eyes and you want to step away from that and make other skills better. Why is it other class’s like thieves still get their 1 spam? Lets be real here because im calling BS.
SB ranger have positional condition damage, spammed by 1. Thieves have condition damage spammed by 1 in which they have no position requirement….. yet its okay for them.

This guy does almost nothing but abuse a broken mechanic and spam 1 exclusively and hits 5 to stealth to kill downed players. Every now and then uses steal.
I am sorry but if your going to sit there with a straight face and feed us that crap. I want to see this kind of build from thieves gone. Because its the same thing, except theirs is better, no positional requirement, stealth, speed….. ya rangers got the least thought in my opinion. Fix the kitten class.

What about Elementalist and there mobility, they out run us.
While using skills sure, but a thief is passively faster with their signet.
Plus a elementalist running isn’t a threat, a thief is because you wont see them again until they are on top of you ganking you again.
Stealth + mobility + high burst = OP in EVERY SINGLE MMO TO DATE. They have all gotten nerfed hard throughout the years in my experience. And the reason is clear. The class build in general is just a huge advantage over other players. Plain and simple.
Come to terms with it. More nerfs will come.
So many angry people focusing on the times a thief killed them in 3 seconds, completely forgetting all the times they killed a thief in two hits as well.
A thief dies when you sneeze at him, you can talk about shadowstep and stealth, but stealth does not make a thief immune to damage, just continue swinging and you’ll kill the thief right there in his stealth. A stealthed thief has to remain very close to you because the stealth only lasts two to three seconds.
The thing with a thief is that he kills fast, but dies even faster. If the devs listen to the whining about this, we’ll have yet another broken and usuable profession/build.

Beta TA on gates of madness: undefeated
GW2 goes live: TA makes HoD their home server, they told no one about this, HoD was pretty much dead last in the WvW area.
TA: Puts HoD at the very top every match up is a win, 24 hours, 48 hours, 1 week all match ups are won spin it how you like they took a low server made it first.
Bandwagon players say oh look TA is on HoD its first im going there.
Then people begin to hate and trash everyone on HoD, and call them bad for nightcapping and whatever else people were saying.
TA guilds say well this sucks no fun winning all the time.
TA breaks up, then guilds spend a week or two trying to figure out where they are going if their friends are going there etc etc.
Now TA guilds are noobs because they waited a bit before transferring to see where they wanted to transfer….
Ya haters are going to hate.
We play the game to have fun, we play the game with our fellow guild friends, we play the game for the competition.

I’ve played a Ranger as my main since release.
If you guys would rather sit around on the forums and mope about shortbow changes instead of trying to learn a new play style that can be effective (I’m sure you’ve all tried pet/trap builds before for all of 30 minutes), so be it.
Or you could, you know, try to figure out a new way to play an incredibly fun and flexible class.
I’ve seen greatsword Rangers shred people. I’ve seen a sword/torch Ranger going to town. I’ve seen plenty of axe/horn or axe/torch Rangers doing well in PvP. Granted, they’re few and far between, because most people would rather just pick up a shortbow and brainlessly press QZ every now and again.
It’s not the end of the world, all the boohooing on the forums is ridiculous and most of it is probably coming from FotM players.
Thats fine but your ignoring the fact that any decent pvp’er is going to see your pet and lol at it and burst you down while you try to control them with cc that can easily be avoided or broken.
Sure traps are great if someone is dumb enough to just stand in it or run over it in the first place.
Like I said it would be different if pets were actually good with mobility in other words able to keep up and attack at the same time.
I prefer greatsword with a trait build based on regen and defense if you must know. But the fact that ranged wise rangers are pretty much bottom of the food chain is pretty backwards. A warrior with tougher armor and based around melee shouldn’t be better then us at ranged figthing, its that simple. But they are.

Hogwash. There are PvP viable Ranger specs that DON’T revolve around SB. Second, pets are not useless in PvP despite what everyone says.
Try playing a spec focused around your pet and traps. You’d be surprised how much damage a pet can do to an immobilized/slowed opponent.
Again your assuming the opponent is stupid/bad.
Stun/snare breaks and people that kill/snare your pet.
If your pet cant attack or hit them you got nothing while they beat on you. Again your relying on a broken mechanic that requires someone to be utterly stupid.

If pets weren’t weak, could attack while moving (because honestly who in pvp stands still for a pet to hit them…. hurdur) and were fast enough to keep up with players it would be different…. but when your leopard cant keep up with someone in heavy kitten armor something just feels wrong does it not lol….. if those things were different and pets were viable then sure it would be different but they are largely worth nothing in pvp and dont really help you especially in the dps area in a fight where there is nonstop movement…. which is pretty much all the time.

If they want to stop hackers then the server needs to monitor things internally.
Take a speed hack for instance, the server should be able to determine a players speed and location based on their world position, currently there is no tracking at all otherwise if someone tried to speed hack it would just rubber band them back to where they should be.
Thats just smart coding and has nothing to do with hack detection. GW2 server code is cheap im thinking. It is not smart code and has no sort of internal tacking what so ever hence you have teleport hacks, fly hacks and speed hacks.
You lock down things like player position, attack speed, attack range, etc etc you severely limit what a hacker can achieve client side. Because then instead of hacking their client they now have to hack the Anet server which is very risky and easily detected.

Punkbuster solves nothing, instead of sawing through a wood fence, the hacker would just jackhammer through a concrete floor (punkbuster), regardless they are still gonna bypass and hack.
Just look at fps games on the market, hacks run rampant in them and a good majority runs punkbuster.
You can never stomp out hackers, it is a 24/7 war. You write detection code they write code to bypass that detection method.
I think it has more to do with the aspect of a gun.
Guns go BOOM and make a lot of noise.
Bows and Xbows do not.
Think about that in terms of a Ranger who is a hunter, stealthy type, tracker type, etc.
Except they aren’t stealthy and they aren’t fast lol
Just giving some friendly tips. SB is for condition dmg, LB is for high numbers and crits. I use to build high power/precision SB then I switch and my dps raised dramatically.
High numbers is not =/= dps bud.
Considering the faster you attack the faster you put conditions on the enemy im gonna say you dont know how to play your class.
Takes alot longer to get to that 10+ stack of bleed. Which is where your dps is maximized

I said its about impossible to hit and lock down a decent thief… is that exaggerated? no its not they have several abilities to stealth they have the most mobility of any class in the game which makes dodge projectiles and other things much easier their ability to not take damage while producing damage is unmatched you cant say that about any other class, except maybe a mesmer, but a mesmer can be locked down if you know which one is real.

And I never said they did amazing damage I said the thief has the ability to avoid damage while keeping steady damage on their enemy or enemies with a cop out option if it gets rough, no lie and no exaggeration. I have no pvp videos but heres someone that proves the point perfectly. Slic is a great pvp’er in all games hes played, and he normally plays the assasin type class in general so this isn’t a strike at him.

Most of you never played a thieves, so it is understandable on this frustration. But if you know the mechanism of stealth, it is really easy to counter/avoid them. The most important thing to avoid from getting owned by a thieves is to have a good awareness of your surrounding.
Still, rendering is a huge issue atm. Especially in a big fight where projectiles flying from all direction without you seeing the person doing it.
Ranged condition thief with, vit and tough…. let me know how well you counter that when we can just lay down conditions and if you do manage to hit us we can just stealth heal and then start laying more conditions before you even can target us again.
And a good thief will counter your blind tracking, just pointing out the obvious.
I am going to go out on a limb and say its not peoples pc’s…. im personally running raid ssd, quad GTX’s, on a i7-3930K, with 32 gigs of ram so im gonna say that its not the machine lol…..

Thieves are the most OP class there is right now. My ele was one shot last night for 14k. Brought back memories of a Inf popping out of stealth in DAOC.

14k HP is base. I don’t mean to be rude, but complaining about getting 1-2 shot in a glass cannon build (you’d almost have to be for that hp) is kind of…meh. If de-stealthed targets rendered properly (see my previous post), you’d be able to 1-2 shot any glass cannon thief you saw. Provided you survived their burst or were not their target.
The problem is a thief doesn’t get hit.
You can play the glass cannon card all you want but go watch a thiefs pvp that abuses stealth, Slic is a good example. A glass cannon taking 3+ players at 80 at the same time screams imbalance.
As soon as you start laying down damage its bam stealth, heal, cond dmg, stealth. Fastest class in game highest end regen rate gives them the ability to avoid damage very easily when one of their many broken stealth skills is down.
A thief is not hard to kill but the wide variety of avoidance they get makes it nearly impossible to get them unless they are just bad.
sorry this issue isn’t related to peoples machines. What ever they changed in the patch made things super bad not only in pvp but in pve stuff just wont render.
This is happening outside of wvw as well. Going up to npc’s even in story mode they are taking like 5 seconds to load. This just started after the patch.
From my experience on alts your the first to be targeted and die.
Ive had people charge through a zerg just to kill the lowbies in back, so while some of you avoid them because in your eyes they are not a threat many kill them because its an easy kill and decreases the zergs number.
At least there were no ques last night on HoD even at reset lol
Personally, I have the opposite opinion of many in this post: I think people playing at off-peak hours should gain more points, not fewer. This will incent more players to stop playing at the exact same time. This reduce queues and makes the game more interesting / competitive at all hours, instead of just a few each day.
I don’t think I live in the same world than you. There is a reason I play at evenings. It has mostly to do with the necessity to earn a living which tends to have a very string timer going on.
Most of the people telling us to play at different hours or to stay up all night are kids who don’t have to sleep so we wake up for work and then work all day to afford shelter and food.
They’re totally ignorant to real life and don’t understand logic. The point is, ignore them you’re just arguing with a child.

Interesting, Kolly — that’s the first time I’ve seen green down on points during primetime for the whole matchup. They’ve been consistently ahead. When was that screenie from? (Looks old..considering points are much higher now, right?)
Well it would take 130ish cyles (37 hours) to catch up to HOD, so maybe they just arent worried. Theyll get it all back after JQ logs out.
JQ isn’t like SBI they dont log out and they dont turn tail and run when losing.

I’m not giving you numbers I’m giving you an actual case of it last week ET and SBI vs HOD they were winning after four days.
They were mainly focusing on HOD but were still fighting each other some, if they would have divided all four maps in half and not gave up I feel they would have put HOD in third for the week and think most of SBI and ET players can see this.

Tuesday @ prime time, HoD had completely 100% reversed this 3 days of LOSING and were now WINNING.
Do you understand that? Three full days of losing in points, and then the next day they are winning. And you’re saying they should have just kept doing it? One single night Binafus. ONE NIGHT changed HoD from 3rd place to 1st.
2v1 doesn’t make a difference, after the FIRST full night-cap.
This is a problem, because it decimates the W3 participation rates.That would be a problem if there was no one else playing, but as a NA player that helped that night there was plenty of ET/SBI out defending they just got out played and lost ground that their teammates gained them. It was pretty equal actually.

Its true that other servers literally have no one on at night but its been proven time and time again that the top servers have people at night. They just aren’t queing up for WvW, and the people in WvW aren’t that good at night, lack coordination and leaders, whereas HoD has that coordination and leaders even at night.

The entire weekend HoD was a distant last place, but once our “equally sized” night forces came on, HoD was simply so much better than both ET and SBI combined that they completely wiped them off of all 4 maps.

No ques on any of the 3 servers, all 3 were at high… yet we are the bad guys because we took everything in one go… clearly your server wasn’t empty so whats the reason you lost all that ground? Oh right your still claiming its PvD, when it never was thats cool though.

So, that’s about 1/5 where he’s the initial attacker.

Because the initiated fights by the other servers were hilarious when he mopped the floor with them lol.

I’m not giving you numbers I’m giving you an actual case of it last week ET and SBI vs HOD they were winning after four days.
They were mainly focusing on HOD but were still fighting each other some, if they would have divided all four maps in half and not gave up I feel they would have put HOD in third for the week and think most of SBI and ET players can see this.
I tossed out four solutions that would help.

ET and SBI both focused on HoD, that’s true. HoD was losing by the end of the weekend, that’s true too.
Tuesday @ prime time, HoD had completely 100% reversed this 3 days of LOSING and were now WINNING.
Do you understand that? Three full days of losing in points, and then the next day they are winning. And you’re saying they should have just kept doing it? One single night Binafus. ONE NIGHT changed HoD from 3rd place to 1st.
2v1 doesn’t make a difference, after the FIRST full night-cap.
This is a problem, because it decimates the W3 participation rates.
That would be a problem if there was no one else playing, but as a NA player that helped that night there was plenty of ET/SBI out defending they just got out played and lost ground that their teammates gained them. It was pretty equal actually.
Thats the part your not getting.
Its true that other servers literally have no one on at night but its been proven time and time again that the top servers have people at night. They just aren’t queing up for WvW, and the people in WvW aren’t that good at night, lack coordination and leaders, whereas HoD has that coordination and leaders even at night.

People who only play thieves might have a limited viewpoint when it comes to these facts.
And the people who play more than that? And still don’t quite agree with you? This rare breed of creature is just an illusion I suppose..
End of the line is that while thief is an easily accessible class with less of a learning curve than others, competitive and competent play actually does require a play to know about the class and show some finesse. I still run into HS spammers, even in WvW. My thief doesn’t stealth at all. I still kill them. I still also kill them with my rifle warrior.

I have never ever come across this so called stealth delay except in a big zerg vs zerg at WvW and i have played against a lot of thieves. People are just making things up. I’m not saying that it never occurs (even tho i have never experienced it myself), but to say that its always there, when its not, is just making things up.
Warriors & Guardians and Mesmers are probably even worse than thieves in a 1v1. But even then, every class is OP if you know how to play it. If you get wrecked by a thief its simple to just blame the class instead of actually looking in the mirror and blame urself…
Ive had it happen alot in spvp fighting other thieves, its very annoying, stealth then your waiting for them to appear again but before they are selectable and visible they have already landed a few extra hits on you.
Might just be me, but I know others have experienced this as well. Especially chain stealthing. I normally counter by stealthing myself and just dodging around, but still.
To me the QQ about night capping is like QQ’ing you joined wvwvw and got pk’d…. everyone knew WvW was going to be 24/7 long before the game launched.
And now that theres people on 24/7 on a few servers theres nothing but crying.
HoD done a great job turning around that points deficit but claiming it was because “the other servers thought it was over so didnt log on” is BS!
