Is AoE actually a problem? - Discussion Thread

My friends,

Anet is suggesting we bring single target builds to a aoe fight. Instead of doing what is right and using aoe skills to kill groups of monsters. But there is a problem…..most encounters in gw2 are with groups of monsters fighting you. Single mob fights are quite rare, I’d say 85% of fights consist of groups of mobs attacking you….while the other 15% is a single target fight.

A aoe change would make the game worse, due to the fact that CC is quite weak. Typically in many mmos, to assist single target damage dealers you use CC to immobilize, sleep etc the mobs. But in gw2, things like immobilize last 2 secs, blind is only on next hit and so forth. So there is no time to CC and single target dps a mob then move to the next one.

GW2 is a aoe game, so its natural for everyone to use aoe skills over single target ones. In fact, I wondered why single target skills even existed in the game, thinking that maybe it was a mistake. If Anet wants single target skills to become stronger all they have to do is simple increase the amount of single mob encounters.

That I agree and add:
Arena net said they didn’t intended those AoEs to be used as player use it now. In other words it is ANet’s caprice and not real balancing as there is no need for balancing. AoEs have good restrictions, procs and cooldowns as well as channeling conditions. Good example is AoE that freaks out all non ele players – Meteor Shower. It looks devastating, does huge damage and so on but people forget facts:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Meteor_Shower

So ele must stand still for 4,25 seconds and channel spell – do not ever forget how ele vulnerable is and this can be easily intrupted
meteors doesn’t always hit target(s) – you can cast it on one target and it might happen it has been hit only once or up to 5 times, my personal record is 3
Once casted, spell is on very long cooldown on 30 seconds.

In other words, ele can NOT spam this spell. This spell can NOT be main source of ele’s damage. What people usually don’t see is ele swap attunements and use other staff spells that are also AoE and most of them are not noticable as Meteor Shower. Everybody will say now “See ele just spam it”. Well don’t forget IT IS difficult to constantly swap attunements, it is difficult to manage attunements cooldowns (you didn’t know attunements have cooldowns just like spells?) at the same time keeping everything at the distance (do not ever forget how ele fragile is).

Also, other AoE spells are not easy catchable by the enemy. Take eruption as example:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eruption

Most people don’t see this at all and numerous times our enemy was kicked out of AoE by knockback (usually by melee classes).
What is the issue here – this spell has channel of 1,75 second but once casted it doesn’t do damage – it waits for 3 seconds and mobs or people can easily move away from AoE.

Another example Static Field
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Static_Field_

This is almost instant cast but huge cooldown and more over, it is possible will not do any damage on enemy.

Another
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ice_Spike

It has slow drop and just as Eruption, enemy can move away.

So what we have? Lava font and flame burst that also can’t be spammed. Nerf? Seriously? These are the current state facts. And it is not balancing issue – it is ANet’s desire not to use AoE, simply as that.

P.S: I am quite sure it is the same/similar with other classes. Even though Necro has shorter cooldowns, his staff AoEs are all visible and all are traps so they can be avoided with ease. Nerfing is also not an option for necro.

You do realize Anet was mainly speaking about pve and not pvp…. so skills on short cd like dragons tooth that do considerable AOE damage….. multiply that by 4 other aoe’s from your group and mobs drop fast…. but thats the point I thought.

Otherwise get rid of all the mobs in encounters….. dredge in fractals for example… always like 10 or more of them on your group for most of that fractal…. the shaman fractal at the start theres groups spawning non stop for the first few minutes…. then the flame shaman boss that spawn lava worms….pretty sure this game is built around aoes…. and if not why make all the encounters and areas require aoes, and make single target skills kitten weak?

Ya sure lets nerf AOE’s because thats not how we intended content to be done…. yet we added 5-10 mob spawns all over the place where the only effective way to pass is to aoe lol….. some pretty fail kitten logic on anets part if you ask me.

Namu.5712

Aoe isn’t really the problem here its the fact that single target skills suck. Stop nerfing things and buff things that need buffing.

Take a warriors axe main hand….. full dps gear your looking around 3k on crit auto attacking. Now look at other class’s single target while also running a full dps build….. its no contest.

Fact is they did a horrible job balancing skills and weapons.

And again if you nerf AOE you kill pretty much every elementalist spec out there lol. Because over half their skills are gasp aoe’s and even with aoe’s they dont compare to a warriors single target dps, which also hits multiple targets I might add.

philosophy on raids?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Namu.5712

Having raids does not mean tiered gear.

Why do people keep tying great ideas to wow concepts.

They could have raids simply for the challenge and reward amazing skins, money, mats, etc etc.

Why are you all so kitten stuck on treadmill crap and just outright reject anything that MIGHT indicate treadmills in your mind.

Not sure why more people don’t support raids if they had no treadmill… the challenge is welcomed because all the pve content in this game is stupidly easy for the most part…… sorry devs its the truth.

Why are there still CoF speed runs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Namu.5712

Namu.5712

Because it still is good money/rewards for 6-10 minutes of your time… cant farm that amount anywhere else in the game back to back in such a short time frame.

Also I really don’t blame him for being rude to you because honestly I would be annoyed if some random person just started questioning how I spent my time in game like I was being bad or doing something wrong. Its like a little kid sitting there asking why after every answer you give. Its cute when a kid does it, but down right annoying when a grown adult is doing it. Use google next time and save someone the irritation of answering non important questions because you don’t get it.

Your like the guy that walks up to someone drinking a coke and says why do you drink that? “because it tastes good, I like it”
Why? its not even good for you with all the, blank, blank in it.

Pve elementalists vs the pve warrior

i repeat find me any post asking for an elementalist….or a necro or an engineer…..or a ranger.

That also pictures a small part of community…

Warriors are overplayed but 90% groups that lacks at least 2 heavy for a difficult dungeon, will just require some.
That is a Group will probbaly have 2 heavy anyway, but iat third slot if they don t they just require one..

Any fotm player can confirm…

You are denying the evidence….

Preference does not =/= fact. I run many groups that generally have 1 or 2 ele’s and guard/war.

Guess what we clear at a good pace just like when I am on my warrior.

You don’t have evidence what you have is certain people in the community with their minds set on a certain way you should play and make requirements. That sir is not fact.

Gonna have to disagree with you here I have a warrior and ele also. Warrior does great damage and has decent survival…. but my ele is on par if not more versatile then my warrior and puts out amazing damage.

I run scepter dagger. And my ele I feel is a bit more group oriented and helps with buffs/healing/cond removal a bit better then my warrior. On top of top tier damage.

One word for the population or lack there of.

Fractals.

Fractals have essentially fractured the community.

Why do any other content when frac runs are so lucrative in comparison?

Stop blaming something in the game that you dont like or disagree with NOT EVERYONE IS IN FRACTALS AT ALL TIMES DURING THEIR PLAY TIME.

So what happens to the ele whose majority of skills are aoe based for a majority of their weapons lol…. speaking about pve here.

Are they going to get a serious buff to their single target dps skills? I mean what happens when they have 5 mobs on them… they have neither the armor or toughness to just face tank them like say a warrior. That Aoe is not only their main dps but a way to survive.

Cant nerf things without compenstating in other areas to make up for it.

Just my 2 cents.

Stupid change imo. This is one of the things i like from this game, makes it more dynamic.

Failing an encounter and then running back from a waypoint in a dungeon does not make it more dynamic….. it makes it idiot proof, and easy.

And as they stated it was never their intention for it to create that effect " res zerging boss’s"

Can I solo dungeons with my Mesmer main?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Namu.5712

Namu.5712

Some paths can be solo’d some cannot.

For example there are a few videos of a warriors soloing arah paths.

They spent a great deal of time figuring out how to solo it as well as learning the boss mechanics so they rarely get hit enough to be downed.

So yes you can solo some dungeons, but it largely depends on your skill.

Warriors, thoughts?

in Community Creations

Namu.5712

I don’t think warriors should be nerfed. But that boss’s should be buffed.

1 person shouldn’t be able to solo content that IS SUPPOSED to take a full group. Not saying buff the boss’s hp or make it one hit but add mechanics that require your group to work together in various ways.

For instance a undodgable shout that immobilizes 1 player, and if the team doesn’t break the immobilize in time that person gets downed from the attack that follows.

For the most part GW2 pve content is stupidly easy.

For 350 hours on a guard I am disappointed in your rantings I would expect someone with that playtime on a class to realize its strengths, especially when compared to a warrior.

Legendary Imbued Shaman requires nerf

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Namu.5712

Namu.5712

The Shaman requires no such nerf.

At level 20+ it better be hard for the people that are using fractals for progression with their guild or team.

Thats why fractals were created in the first place! If you want dumbed down group content run dungeons/events or do lower level fractals there is no reason at all for them to nerf the fractals because YOU cant pug them.

If anything they should make the other fractals harder at 20+ for people that are doing progression and want a challenge after all thats the whole point of fractals to begin with.

Legendary weapons stats same as exotics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If someone is really spending real life cash on gems to buy gold to buy a legendary off the trading post, then I feel bad for him.

As of right now the cheapest legendary weapon I see available is the bolt, for 3333 gold.

Currently 100 gems is 1 gold 75 silver. Let’s pretend there are no fees for selling gems (there are)

That means you need 190457 gems to get that much gold (rounded)

With the largest bulk option you get 4000 gems for $50.00

That means to buy the cheapest legendary on the trading post right now (bolt) you need $2,308.

When you add in trading post fees you’re probably looking at around $2,5000.

Do you REALLY think that someone out there is spending that much on a legendary weapon? I highly doubt it. And if there is someone spending that much on a legendary, I feel bad for him.

Spending $10,000.00 to some people is like one of us spending $10.00.

Ya do you guys even realize how utterly ridiculous that is?

*There is only a handful of people in the world that make that kind of money…. they don’t call it the top 1% for nothing. * I highly doubt many people have spent that kind of cash for a skin in a video game. And if they have well GREAT! More money so we get new content!

Sorry not sure why people have to be so negative…. its like your neighbor that works 20 hours a week that owns a 200k car while you work 60 hours a week and drive a civic…. get over it he clearly made better business desicisions in his life and is reaping the rewards… be happy with what you have and your own life and stop worrying about how others are getting what they get kitten

LOL. I just had to reply to this one.

The current US population is around 320 Million. Thus, the top 1% is about 3.2 Million.

Slightly more than a handful, wouldn’t you say

Cheers.

Ya and less then 1% of that 3.2 million probably play…. just pointing out the obviously flawed logic you have. I doubt there are many in that 1% that are sitting and playing GW2 lol.

I said this in another thread and I will say it here; there are a ton of things to do in this game, whether or not you chose to do them is completely on you. It’s not lacking for things to do, it’s lacking in thing you want to do.

The game is not custom made for every special snowflake and will not have everything your heart desires to keep you entertained till you discover life outside the game.

Many people are enjoying it just fine, many aren’t, welcome to how the world works.

As for the “leveling alts is just doing the same content”, that a ludicrous statement and probably doesn’t even deserve my feedback but I’m going to give it anyway. Every race has different starting areas, different leveling areas and different personal story (to a point). So, please try to come up with a better reason not to level an alt besides “it’s the same content”.

Outside of storymode for the first 40 levels. Its the same content m8.

Same events same heart quests… if you main has 100% map completion guess what running an alt through is going to be pretty bland because yes you have done all the content already.

The actual answer is that it is a mystery. Anet has clearly said that it is by Account, i.e., number of accounts on a server. But, there is significant variance that we can witness daily that would suggest perhaps more than the migration of accounts.

Ugh, except Anet didn’t clearly say that. Again, the post wasn’t clear at all, on top of that it was a community coordinator.

@Namu. When you originally said that you would admit you were wrong, I didn’t believe it all. Thanks for proving me wrong on that one =)

Well I did set out for proof, I got my proof and it happened to go against what I thought to be true. Mistake was on my end for assuming you could stay logged in and see the servers update dynamically. Which makes me kinda mad that I spent so much time to get on a server and turns out I was doing it wrong the whole time -.-.

Namu, you are plain wrong. I know you are entrenched in your opinion here, but it’s wrong.

I started playing around 3 weeks ago maybe. I couldn’t get in the night I started to Tarnished Coast as it was full. The next day around 3pm EST, I got in with no problem. Now, in your magical world, this mean that the developers just happened to decide that day to change the population so that I could get in. Sure, later it was full again and there were people complaining constantly that it took them weeks to get in, but I guess I’m just special to the developers.

Then a day later, I told my friend about a sale that was going on and I checked the servers. TC was full again. Well darn, but I told her she could always transfer over and how it took me a day to do so. She said okay and begun downloading. Around 10pm est, she finished and…got right in to TC. Wait, so I guess the developers really like her too and decided to suddenly change the population cap for her long after those developers were at home having dinner.

Fair enough, your ‘facts’ are definitely rock solid here. Surely you know what you are…oh, there’s new people joining the server all the time? Well, surely that’s because the developers happen to love those people but hate others since we hear a ton of people complaining that they can’t get in.

But you’re right, it has /nothing/ to do with people logging in and out, it’s just a developer sitting there with a button he hits every now and then to let people in like he’s a bouncer at a night club. /sarcasm

No need to be mean about it really.

Just from what I have seen it has been different however I realize now it was an error on my part.

You have to completely close the game and reopen it to get a server update closing the world select window doesn’t refresh it, as one would expect it to.

Just reopened the game SoS is very high from full.

So I stand corrected.

If it was this last sunday well I have your answer its because caps were raised… if you noticed all servers that were full were at very high when not even a few hours before they were full and had been full since the wintersday cap increase.

But it will be obvious who is right and who is wrong this coming week as I document each peak time and off peak time. If I am wrong I am man enough to admit it, are you?

Doubtful I will be back at 7pm my time, how much you want to bet the screen shot will look the same lol.

I didn’t say they were increasing it everyday.

They increased it twice, once for the winter event. Then again about 6 days ago. Other than that the populations according to the world select have been static.

Going back at 7 will do nothing, as you didn’t read or understand my point above.

You or somebody arguing your point said that servers switch from full to very high because they raise caps. This happens everyday, therefore my argument to that is they don’t raise the cap everyday.

I’m baffled as to why people are arguing against this. It is so blatantly obvious that there is more to it than just counting the amount of registered accounts.

Again, this comes painfully obvious as you log in several times throughout the day for almost a week. I did that since I was trying to follow friends to SoS server which is almost always full. What time did I get in? Sunday afternoon. Coincidence? No

No one said they do it everyday.

I said I checked every day for the opportunity to transfer off my server…. and by everyday I mean every day like every other hour. Then transferred and the next day for about 5 days all the servers were very high due to them increasing the pop caps.

I said this happened 2 times when wintersday started and again around 6 days ago.

I doubt anyone has even bothered watching server populations in since the 7 day transfer stuff was initiated. The only reason servers looked like they were based on accounts logged in before was because you could transfer every day this of course was chaning server population status’s. But since the server’s went to a 7 day transfer you do not see that any more… There are no servers that will drop from very high to high or from full to very high based on time. Some very high servers may become full due to people creating accounts there but not the other way around.

Like I said I will screen shot the next week to prove my point at 7pm and at 4am which are the precieved highs and lows for most servers. Because as someone that has tried transferring I have watched very closely and there is no flux based on time of day.

I play in the early morning, these servers I garantee you will not ever change population wise from primetime to early morning. Because I have watched carefully for weeks for the chance to transfer.

And if caps increase it will be accross the board for top servers and obvious, a flux of a server or two will not happen.

1024 isn’t exactly an off peak hour. Also in your SS you can see only a couple of full, log back on peak hours around 7/8 and you’ll see a lot more are full.

1) The infamous quote was vague and from a CC. A CC is not a dev, so you’re proving your ignorance by saying “A dev said this”
2) Every single day they go full, and then go very high. Anet is not increasing population server every single day.
3) Off-peak and peak hours are going to vary because you’re combining US hours vs European (around +5hours) and Australian (around +13 hours)

Doubtful I will be back at 7pm my time, how much you want to bet the screen shot will look the same lol.

we need dungeons fixed, not made biger

Because they can add more mechanics in that force the party to work together dodging harmful attacks and such…. not just pew pewing a boss for 15 minutes….. talk about narrow minded.

Fractals are fun because you have to be aware of the env more then dungeons, so does the party or your not going to make it…. now upscale that to support 8-12 man teams. That would be fun. No one said anything about giving a boss more hp lol.

The next morning I wake up and go figure you guys increased the cap…. of course now that my transfer cooldown is gone the server is of course full again.

Your logic simply doesn’t hold water. You just don’t want it, despite anyone trying to resolve your issues with it.

I don’t want it for the reasons that ANet’s said that they don’t want it, and I like ANet’s reasons more.

Its highly likely that we could see raid style content in the future because to be frank it just doesn’t offer large groups anything to do… and no events dont count when an event can be zerged down into easy mode and make the accomplishment of beating it nothing more then oh ya I helped 40 people beat on a dragon for some loots was easy mode…. And you know its true lol.

Just because Anet said something in the past does not mean it will hold true for the entire games future.

Agreed. ANet has a history of lying to the playerbase. Why should anything they say hold any water????

Not this again.

It is still the case that ANet has neaver said that there would be no scaling with gear. It’s quite the opposite. They said there would be scaling with a low power curve. I have yet to see a place where they lied, unless you willingly choose to interpret the facts that they are lying and lying again.

If they provided 20 man “instanced” versions of world events, with loot specific to it (no better mind you, simply “Claw of the Shatterer” style loot) why does it matter? You can still see the content, but if you want to field a team to take on the tougher version and get more exclusive rewards, you’d be able to .

Posts like this further make me hope that ANet sticks to its guns and are why I will always oppose instanced raids.

But they already went against that reasoning with ascended gear. Because currently thats only obtained from doing fractals and grinding like crazy. yet you stand by that flawed arguement and logic?

I don’t see any reason why raid content couldn’t be added.

Take the last dungeon for example… currently you run through with 5 people and a handful of npc’s to fight the biggest bad in the game….. there is no reason why that couldn’t be a raid. Instead you have NPC’s doing the helping…. seems kinda RPGish in the grand scheme of things.

Or they could scale up fractals to support 10-15 people instead, have different mechanics, same loot but different mechanics made to challenge a larger group.

But a guild is just that – a group of like-minded people with interests and abilities similar to your own. So, chances are if you join a guild, they’re going to be of the mindset that it’s ok to plan an online event for 4 hours on Thursday nights.

You can plan things, but when it’s dependent on that many people, something always goes wrong the next week and Joe and John and Jane are missing, and then next week it’s Matt and Bob and Broski, and on and on. Either the kid got sick or there’s a deadline or someone got boyfriend or wife aggro etc etc blarg.

Thats how its been for me in many guilds when I played WoW. Raid night was once a week but something always went wrong, people couldn’t come or someone would start some drama etc etc.

No, it’s not harder. That is why raiders are such a small minority, because getting 20 people with various lives and obligations is a pain.

That excuse just doesn’t hold water.

What about bowling leagues? What about poker night? What about going to the movies? They all require planning ahead for what amounts to leisure time with friends – no different here.

As soon as you get out of high school, planning something with 20 friends, let alone every few days/once a week, for several hours, is a pain in the butt. People have jobs, spouses, kids, illnesses, etc.

I’ve been in big raiding guilds and pvp guilds, and it just kept turning into a logistical nightmare after a while as people started getting older and having lives.

But a guild is just that – a group of like-minded people with interests and abilities similar to your own. So, chances are if you join a guild, they’re going to be of the mindset that it’s ok to plan an online event for 4 hours on Thursday nights.

In theory sure… in practice… not so much. There are very few guilds that can do that. And they are just that. A minority. Which is what he said in the first place.

We don’t need “progressive” raiding. All I’m asking for is dungeons along the same lines as the ones we have now that allow 10-20 players to run them. Rewards don’t need to be anything special.

World content is fine, but frankly the interference of other players tends to make it feel too chaotic.

As for WvW, I love that. But most of my guild does not. So it’s not a viable subsitute to raiding.

Just because there’s lot of things you can do “instead of” raiding or “kind of like” raiding, doesn’t mean that they can’t put it in later on down the road. The post I made was a plea to AN to include a group of players who feel like it’s missing something from this amazing game and without it, aren’t enjoying the post-leveling game as much as other subpar games.

It is a missed opportunity on ArenaNet’s part. Something they could easily include in the future. If done right, wouldn’t impact non-raiding players at all.

Well I think stamping your reason that you need them in order to feel like you can do things with a large portion of your guild is whats hurting your arguement here.

Its much easier and concrete to simply say I want bigger dungeons that require 10-20 people working together to beat because its much more challenging then the current offerings. That is a true statement.

What is not a true statement is throwing the whole bit about you cant do things with your guild because X isn’t in the game.

Ya but bowling and poker nights dont result in 4 hours of time or more lol.

Bowling or poker nights can often be family events as well…. bit of a difference m8.

Apples to apples shall we.

I don’t have 20 RL friends that want to spend 1+ hours online in a game…. they however would not have a problem spending 1+ hours at a movie, dinner, or other social events.

Namu, I appreciate all of those things, and I do enjoy them. But I also enjoy my guild and doing content with them. Not just 4 others, but a larger group of them. We like to challenge ourselves and work as a unit to conquer PVE content.

All of those things you mentioned are good for the individual player. But very little of it fills the gap left from leaving another game you used to raid in for a guild in PVE.

It’s the act alone of doing large group content that is missing. Not the number of available alternate activities.

Well cant argue that but, what says you have to go into a instanced part of the world with 20 people to be considered something to do?

Could you not full-fill that with world events and such all the same in GW2? There are several very challenging world boss’s that most pugs cant kill as it is.

Your looking for X to replace X. When there is no X but X is substituted for Y which is equal to X.

If I want to play with a large number of guildmates we go do world events or go do WvW. You still get that play with your guildies just a different way.

WoW is really the only mmo built around progressive raiding…. your not gonna find that here or anywhere else really… as im sure you are well aware of. Maybe in the future possibly… but lets not forget WoW has 7 years on GW2 lol. And they are different games with different ways of doing things. WoW is centered almost soley around Dungeons and raids and the gear thats pretty much all WoW is about. Why not play both? I know many people that login to WoW once a week raid and thats that for their game play in WoW.

Although i have had GW2 since the first beta i haven’t played much as i have a WoW subscription. Im looking to cancel WoW and using GW2 as my MMO and playing alot of other single player games.

What is the end game like here? from what i can see it is mainly PvP based as i havent heard of raids other than the world boss style of things.

Do you Queue for instances or is it finding your own group? as finding your own group sounds difficult.

Is the “lack of players” i heard about troubling or just people talking crap?

Finally i am mainly a pve player so does this game suit me or do i need to be a pvper?

sorry the the wall of text and questions.

First of all the majority of posts in this thread are going to be negative from a minority that is spitful for whatever reason so keep that in mind.

There are plenty of things to do just not in the traditional sense of raid night is sat night, login raid then stand in stormwind and level alts.

GW2 has many achievements to get.
Work on getting your legendary weapon which requires alot of time and pve. (100% world completion for one)
Dungeons… well theres lots of them and you can find a group for any of them using www.gw2lfg.com.
You farm dungeons for tokens for gear specific to the dungeon similar to WoW.
Fractals of the mist introduced a new tier of gear (ascended gear one step higher then exotic) heres some info on obtaining those items and fractal skins.
http://dulfy.net/2012/11/17/gw2-ascended-gear-and-infusion-recipes/

Theres other stuff to do as well but those are the main things.

People here just like to complain for the sake of complaining really. Take my post and theirs with a grain of salt. Because they are nothing but opinions.

First of all, there’s NO need to jump down the guys throat for asking a question born of his own personal anecdotal experience, his guild up and bloody disappeared on him and he’s perfectly entitled to ask those questions imho.

Makes me sick to see such aggression and simultaneously curious as to what’s motivating said aggression, aside from FEAR.

He didn’t just ask a question he made snide remarks in a rude way…. when you rudely say something then cover it up with a kitten question at the end… well people tend to respond in the same manner.

Writing off the Honor traitline too I see? :P

WoE and WoP also add damage as well as provide support. Two hammer guardians in a group would probably be overkill, but otherwise it feels too good to pass up.

WoP does not boost damage nearly as much as 2HM does. 2HM gives roughly a 5% boost in overall GS damage, WoP is something like 3% last time I checked. I do run Persistence/Exaltation sometimes if I anticipate using Mace a lot but for DPS optimization Superior Aria (for better Fury uptime) and 2HM is the best.

Obviously if I could use both I would, but you have to pick and choose. And usually you pick the better option.

Its only a better option if your focusing on more damage… it is however not the better option if your looking to support your group better. Just pointing out the obvious.

There is only a handful of people in the world that make that kind of money…. they don’t call it the top 1% for nothing. I highly doubt many people have spent that kind of cash for a skin in a video game. And if they have well GREAT! More money so we get new content!

Sorry not sure why people have to be so negative…. its like your neighbor that works 20 hours a week that owns a 200k car while you work 60 hours a week and drive a civic…. get over it he clearly made better business desicisions in his life and is reaping the rewards… be happy with what you have and your own life and stop worrying about how others are getting what they get kitten

since you (Anet) decided to add “ascended” gear?

and also how is your (the players that read this) guild experience going? because the guild i was apart of went from about 70 members to about 6 active users.

just curious.

Interesting because my guild of 150 members usually has around 30-60 on given the time of day.

Just because your guild fell apart doesn’t represent anything really.

Adding more weapons doesn’t solve the problem. Adding ways to customize the skills used with existing weapons and build into something unique however does solve that problem. And like I menchoned earlier if they were to add skill chains and triggers that allow you the ability to choose what ability to use given the situation… well there is your combat depth. On the weapon/skill side of things atleast. I think movement is fine….. though boss’s need to be harder imo.

Kiting and dodging does not = depth

Yes it does. Very simple way of showing this; if they did not add depth, then the game’s difficulty or complexity would be the same if they were removed. You would have to have limited brain capacity in order to think that this game would be equally complex if all targets would be immobile.

A wide variety of skills that are equally viable depending on how you want to play and in depth combat based off those 5 skills = depth

The term “equally viable” is ambiguous in this context. In what way is a skill equally viable to another? I mean there are skills that do the same damage as each other, and there are skills that cause conditions. How can these be equally viable? As in, the end damage is the same? Still not equally viable in certain contexts.

Right now a majority of the class’s do most of their damage though 1 button. That isn’t in depth game play.

I haven’t played all professions extensively, but I got this feeling from playing a ranger. However, as a d/d elementalist I never use my autoattacks.

Reading player movements and attack patterns and predicting them really has nothing to do with the game itself thats something you do in general as a pvp’er in any game like this.

Two scenarios, either skills are attached to weapons or they are not. This is a game design and something that has something to do with the game itself. Are you stating that combining skills with weapons does not reward an attentive player? Imagine if all thieves had the same model for all their weapon sets. You could not differentiate between a HS spammer or a CD thief just by looking at him. You must realize how this adds a level of complexity to the game, ergo depth.

For instance maybe as a ranger with the short bow if you hit 5 daze your opponent a chain skill appears allowing you to do something else, like maybe leap towards them allowing you to swap to a melee setup lay down some damage then hit 2 with your sword and leap back and swap back to a ranged weapon…. that is an example of adding depth to existing skills. And perhaps you could use skill points to get new chain skills based around different things… control, damage, defense, healing… etc etc.

Maybe you should actually watch the OPs video where he shows linking attacks in this game. It’s not like Tera where an icon pops up where it says “hit space”, you actually have to think of these yourself. Hmm… depth?

You keep talking about movement…
I am not talking about movement I am talking about reactive skills that you have to choose to use based on a fight.

Warrior puts his shield up blocks, this block triggers other skills that are a result from the block. They could be anything from a control, heal, damage, defense skill based on what your situation and build is setup for that is depth… and you can build these chain skills based on the type of build you are working on.

Like say you were a support/shout spec’d warrior and you blocked and say you chose one of your triggers to be a skill called “Fortified Might” (made up name) so upon successful block of an attack you trigger this skill that pops up as a proc and you have to press it to activate it. And its a shout that grants xx amount of might for xx amount of time to you and your ally’s nearby. Just an example off the top of my head.

We are not talking about movement we are talking about the actual usage of skills not being in depth, and dodging/movement does not make up for that lack of skill depth… because in the end you are still spamming the same button over and over again. That is boring and it isn’t depth.

People who complain about the lack of skills or skills tied to weapons, need to start thinking about why Anet implemented this design in the first place. I think it is quite obvious and definitely tied to PVP. The fact is that this addition adds more depth to combat, and requires players to think a lot more about their opponents and at the same time requires players to know all professions. Because this means that if I see a thief with dual daggers, I can know exactly what kind of abilities he has. I know that he will most likely use heartseeker in one way or another, so I as an elementalist will either bring up air 3 or water 4 or just prepare myself to dodge. Or if he were using pistol and dagger, I would know that he will try to get his c&d attack on me, so I’ll keep my distance and watch for the animation. Same goes for GS warriors and a lot of other professions.

This is why we hear an incessant amount of crying about warriors and thieves, because people don’t bother to learn the other professions and watch the enemies that they fight. Tying together weapons with skills was a brilliant move in my opinion, because it adds a nice amount of depth and makes the player focus less on the UI and more on the combat itself.

That really has nothing to do with what we are talking about.

You can do the same in any other game lol.

Not suggesting more buttons suggesting chains off those 5 buttons that can be built upon to make play styles actually different and interesting.

There is alot of unique things they could do with a skill chain system that would be pretty neat.
