one that caught my eye:
“Adjusted Orr Undead loot drops”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-January-28-2013/first#post1326255
i think that’s actually related to the “Living Story” “Flame & Frost Prelude” thing they have going on now. we had those golden stars for halloween, lost shores and witnersday before, if i remember correctly.
i agree, though, i’d like an option to turn it off, as well.
You cannot solo the kill combo daily which is kitten me off pretty hardcore. You can’t even do it with strangers, you HAVE to add people to a party to do it.
They made these achievements sound like a reason to come back to the game, but…yeah. No. This is really stupid.
wtf is this?
some people could have just been guessing.
Yes, this proves there is massive market speculation, contrary to John Smith, Arenanet economist’s claims.
didn’t he say that there was no manipulation? i don’t know anything about economics, but isn’t speculation still different from manipulation?
While we are on the subject : sometime when you use a CC on bosses with defiance stacks it says “Interrupt”, but are they really interrupted or is it a bug ?
i’m pretty sure they are not actually interrupted by that, it’s just a display bug/oversight.
Robert, are you the head/one of the top people on the dungeon team (it’s possible I just made up “dungeon team”)? You are one of the most communicative members of the ArenaNet staff and you seem to post with solid and satisfying information (possibly a luxury when dealing with dungeon design as opposed to WvW culling or the ephemeral concept of class balance), it would be interesting to know if you are a minion or the guy holding the whip.
Even when I disagree with things the “dungeon team” does, at least I usually understand them from your posts.
After Fractals shipped and just before this last week, I have been the sole designer on the Live Team’s dungeon content. We have designers on the team for other content, but because I built a few of the dungeons we launched with, I am familiar with the current content. I am also a passionate dungeon player, so I feel like it’s been a good fit for me to update and upkeep the dungeons.
In a sense, I both hold the whip and and whipping myself in regards to dungeon content and getting things done (ouch). I have my leads that I answer to and get permissions from, but largely I am acting on what I feel is making the dungeons better. I am leading the charge on improving dungeon content, but I am not a manager or anything – I’m a “in the trenches” designer who just so happens to also post a lot in the dungeon forums to keep players up to date and keep an eye on things. This last week I have been allotted a fellow designer (who sometimes posts here) by the name of William, who is going to help me with updating dungeon content and our plans going forward (we have big stuff coming down the pipeline for dungeons).

so this is/was the dungeon team, right? i guess it’s safe to say that Jeff Grubb is working on something expansion-related. but what happened to Kevin and Dan? are they working on the expansion as well?
i realize you’re most likely not allowed to talk about the expansion, but i felt likey posting anyway

just went to the swamp after the maintenance. the brewery escort DE was stuck as soon as it started…
Ori will definitely go higher, and a guarantee to return a profit.
Simply for the fact that when new gear will be introduced, it will involve Ori again.Hell, even a scavenger hunt will make people buy more.
Whatever they introduce will rise the price of ori.
also, i’m guessing there’ll be another wave of bot bans with the incoming patch, reducing the supply.
Lead Writer – responsible for overall quality and direction of:

wait, so what are Jeff Grubb and Ree Soesbee doing now? working on the expansion?
there’s a reason there are no horses in tyria.
Also, the game is made in America, we write it in American English, and most of our actors live in Los Angeles. That stated, I agree that we could use some more vocal diversity in the game, but I don’t want Guild Wars 2 to sound like every other fantasy title out there with the standard British accents on every character. So aside from more British accents, what other types of voices would you like to hear?
personally, i always loved the different voices and accents for the characters in Team Fortress 2, because it made every single one of them stand out. you had the scottish demo man, the boston scout, the french spy, the australian sniper, the russian heavy and so forth.
i realize you have to cover way more characters in GW2, so you can’t really compare the games like that. also, my native language is german, so what sounds great and diverse to me, might sound like a bunch of random stereotypes to a native speaker.
but maybe it’d be a good idea to have different (new) races have different accents. the tengu come to mind, those obviously already have a bit of an asian-inspired accent. i’m not entirely sure, but i think one of the largos in the personal story has kind of a russian accent. which i found pretty amusing.
i’m just assuming here, but i think we’ll see more of the tengu and largos and more new races (not necessarily playable) going forward.
the “Guild Wars 2 Voiceover Outtakes” made me laugh, thanks!

You need to understand that some builds can only deal a great amount of damage through AoEs if they spec for so, try balancing the traits instead of nerfing so strong these skills, or replace skills by anothers if the amount of AoEs per set is too high.
Capping number of targets for some AoE isn’t a good idea imo as it takes the AoE factor out of them.
AoE in GW2 has always been capped to max amount of 5 targets. except siege weaponry, which has a cap of 50 targets, apparently.
i’m more worried about hammer + longbow on my warrior, lol.
but in general, i think they’ll mostly nerf ranged AoE damage. point blank stuff still has a high risk for the reward.
i blame freaking WvW and Anet’s idea of “server pride”. does anyone even really have that? i’d prefer if WvW was as seperate from PvE as PvP is. i don’t think anyone really cares about the WvW-bonuses they get in PvE.
i’ve been checking for the shadow behemoth event, including any of the pre-events every 5 to 6 hours or so for the past 4 days. never once have i seen anything but “the swamp lies dormant.” i’m assuming this message changes even if there’s just one of the pre-events going on? regardless, i have 3 alts positioned on the pre-events, and i always check those.
not sure if it has anything to do with it, but the pack bull escort DE in the same area seems to be stuck as well.
please fix it
edit: i’m on “Dzagonur (DE)”

The only possible signs people have are nonsense names and highly systematic/accurate/robotic movement. Even then that’s not a sure thing since accounts are hijacked to be used for botting and players running a farming routine can appear systematic.
i encountered bots with “normal” names and dungeon master titles yesterday. that was in the middle of the night, so i’m assuming those were either hacked accounts or actual players using botting scripts while not at their pc or something.
the only thing i personally look for is robotic/linear/repeating movement. if they always move in 100% precise beelines and fight in a very.. static way, they’re bots most of the time.
Oh hey, this thread.
UPDATE: I added day for day fractals, and night for night fractals. The time will not change when you are in a fractal, but certain fractals will be day time or night time.
as always, coming with the next big release? meaning the end of january one in this case?
an interesting phenomenon i observed in fractals: around level 22, 23 or so, people start asking “kill?” again instead of “skip?” when encountering groups of optional trash mobs, like the sons of svanir in the snowblind fractal or the trash in the solid ocean fractal.
now, i’m not sure if this was just coincidence in the PuGs i’ve been in (i exclusively run with PuGs, btw) or whether this is actually common. but i imagine someone at ArenaNet might have access to interesting data about this.
i am not sure how to get the same thing to happen in regular dungeons, though, since those do not have higher scales/levels.

around 7 or 8 bots, just reported all of them individually in game.
may i ask what the point of “Date and time of day” is? isn’t it fair to assume that bots operate around the clock, 24/7?

I feel for the guy who wants to craft Mjolnir. That takes 350 total.
“We don’t want players to feel like they have to grind.”
Are they playing their own game?
I want that hammer.
So. Freaking. Badly.
But 350 Charged Lodestones?
There is a reason why there isn’t even a single Mjolnir listed on the Trading Post… lol
me too.
but at least i’m making good progress on the juggernaut and once that’s done i’ll decide whether i’ll use it myself or sell it and buy the charged lodestones for mjolnir instead.
Thanks for the reports. We know about the issue and will fix it once higher priority issues are taken care of.
Sorry about that!
“Lead Web Developer”
are you managing the remnant of the fabled “Extended Experience”? :O
according to the wiki (linked in the OP) it’s a certain event in straits of devastation. i just went there to check if it’s running, and it is.. but it is bugged. if most servers have this event bugged/stalled/blocked (just like tons and tons of other events), it’s no wonder no one has obtained this weapon yet.
i reported the bug for what it’s worth (i’m sure other people have done it before me), but it’ll probably take another 6-12 months to get fixed.
It’s not bugged, I just ran it like 4 times without a problem:
Map: http://i.imgur.com/6xMMa.jpg
Step 1: Destroy 10 coffins in the catacombs and kill 3 veterans. One Abomination spawns to the East, one Noble to the West, and one Wraith in the middle.
Step 2: Go to the swamp and wait about 15-60 minutes for the “Destroy the Anti-Air Cannon” event to start, then destroy the cannon so the team can land.
Step 3: Escort the team back to the catacombs. You need to kill at least one Veteran Priest of Melandru up on the plateau in order to kill the Champion Abomination that you’ll run into on that route (just North of the spot with a “3” on the map).
After that it’s just a simple matter of killing everything in your way to finish the event chain, concluding with a fight against an Eye of Zhaitan and a dragon-event-sized chest. Don’t get too disappointed if all you get are blues, that’s all anyone I’ve run it with has gotten (which sucks because it’s ridiculously hard, and you’ll almost never find people around to do it).
well, when i checked on my server (Dzagonur [DE]), the event was in one of its last stages and it was definitely blocked/bugged.

Thanks. I assume this is on your list of 50 things to do?
Yup.
I hope it’s on the lowest of that 50, And Anet fix the ACTUAL things that need fixing.
can you read this again, carefully?
It goes on the list of about 50 other things I’d like to do XD.
Thanks for your understanding!
maybe i’m mistaken here, but i think it’s just a personal list of Evan Lesh (if that list even exists, it’s possible it was just a figure of speech). not one of the SPvP team or even the entirety of Anet.
One one hand I’m a bit sad that there will be no new zones, on the other hand it’s probably for the better. I’m glad they’re trying to focus on improving the foundation of the game instead of adding new floors.
No new region
well sounds like there will be no content, as usual
I’m sad now
Guess we’ll have an ascended stuff farm worth of expansion
after launch, roughly 50% of Anet started working on the expansion, while the other half formed the live team. anything we have seen and will see implemented into the game between launch and the first expansion is made by the live team.
you will get your new playable races/zones/weapons types (instead of professions, most likely) with the first expansion.
Just to help provide some clarity on this, we’ll be releasing within the next couple of weeks a high level summary of our big plans for the first half of 2013 to help provide more transparency into our plans with the game going forward.
notice how he only said “first half”? complete speculation on my part, but this almost sounds like they’re planning to release the expansion roughly a year after launch.
i hope you’re not secretly looking for accounts to hack, lol.
You’re still getting off way cheaper than most legendaries.
according to this site: http://gw2legendary.com/ currently the greatswords are the only legendaries that are noticeably more expensive.
i’ve never used MF, i don’t like it personally, but i wouldn’t have a problem with it if they’d just make it a shared group stat already.
@ Mesmer: We’ll be addressing the current Mesmer build that’s spiking for insane damage. Sorry that change got through – it is something we’ll be fixing.
i believe this refers to the bug that sometimes raises your shatter damage to a level as if you had 6 clones out at a time, even though 3 should be the maximum. someone please tell me if i’m wrong, because this thread seems like most people don’t even know about it.
edit: seems like the thread “Mesmer Shatter Exploit” has been deleted. if you search this spvp forum for “macro”, you’ll find one of the posts is still listed there. i take it that means it was an actual bug/exploit and the thread was deleted by ArenaNet.

1. defiant is as intuitive as it gets. unless you’re .. kinda slow, you should be able to read the tool tip, pay attention during the boss fight, and understand what’s actually going on.
2. the ice elemental/dredge fractal bosses do not have this weird form of defiant you described. it is not a player who stuns them during their heal. they just automatically stun themselves (which obviously circumvents defiant and thus doesn’t remove a stack) when they try to heal while overheated…
unless this changes on higher levels (30+). it works the way i described up to level 21, at least.
3. making it a boon when only 2 professions have meaningful boon removal options? i wouldn’t like that. i do think boon removal should be a little more important in PvE (there’s only a few occasions where it’s really useful), but i don’t agree with this idea.

hi, here’s a short video of some crazy asura dancing in front of the bank in lion’s arch. i recorded it at 6AM on dzagonur[DE].

never seen one of these drop so far.
as far as keys go, i’ve had 1 (in words: “one”) drop for me since launch (i’ve been playing at least 2 hours a day, usually more like 6). though i did get a few (4 or 5, maybe?) from personal story step rewards and daily rewards.
haha, great post! thanks for the laugh.
I like how I got a warning in game letting me know a new build was available and that I had 1 hour before restart. Yes you read that right 1 hour. I had to double check that it said minutes not seconds. Then less then 5 minutes later I got booted to desktop….wonderful.
you do know that whenever you get such a warning, the time given is only accurate if you stay in whatever zone/instance you are?
as soon as you hit a loading screen, you will be kicked automatically. regardless of how much time would’ve been left according to the original announcement.
i think the vast majority of people who would want/use voice chat, already have it outside of the game.
imho, it’d be a huge waste of effort, time and money.
Conspiracy Theory
RMT Traders with the financial powers (gold) controlling the legendary market with their resources since botting is being bottlenecked.Having enough resources to fan the market, they will still be able to control gold trade and make money off GW2 even without botting.
holy kitten!
and more importantly, why are they even sellable? i mean, even if they weren’t, they were never legendary to begin with (unless you farm all the mats yourself). but this way, it’s just pure bullkitten.
hold down the right mouse button permanently, (almost) never stop moving until you’re past the exploding presents and plan your next jump while mid-air.
I am tired of people think lodestone = legendary.
Exotic weapon skins requiring Charged Lodestones:
Mjolnir 250
[…]
make that 350.
personally, i like the timed puzzles.
over all, it seems like it’d be a really good idea to have different difficulty levels available. so whoever wants their puzzle to be easier/harder or timed/not timed can choose whatever they like.
even if just the timer is optional, i think that would be enough to add a “challenge mode”. and have the normal mode be not timed.
there are no “pvp skins”. almost all armor and weapon skins are used in both PvE and PvP, there are only “skins”. there are a few exceptions, but i personally expect those to show up in PvP as well, eventually.
apart from things like Mjolnir and Volcanus, maybe. those skins might be misleading in a competitive environment.
don’t gamble if you don’t know the probabilities or you’re not satisfied with them.
I loved the “toy” Sylvari with their mechanical voices saying some of the lines that Sylvari NPCs say. Then when they malfunctioned and attacked us “Everything has a right to…. die!”
technically, they’re not sylvari, but centaurs. cause ventari is a centaur, and they’re just miniatures of him. the lines you refer to as “sylvari lines” are originally from him.
Mjolnir alone needs 350 charged lodestones.. i hoped they would change the recipe, but they want it to stay this way, i suppose.
Server issues, last minute bugs, whatever happened…. communication is key.
imho: there is no need for additional communication, because nothing out of the ordinary happened. i’m pretty sure it’s perfectly on schedule. it’s just the nature of their patches being implemented in a live environment that they can’t give us an exact time.
quoting myself from earlier:
i don’t know much about software/hardware and networking/servers, but i think it’s fair to assume, that the reason they can’t give us an exact time, is because of their live updating. they implement the patch on the fly, while the server is running. there is no server downtime (unless something goes wrong).
i imagine this process is very tricky and varies in the amount of time it takes. depending on patch size, what zones/maps/server parts are affected etc.
25 min left
So patch will be tomorrow? can i go sleep? :P
it will be today, american west coast time. probably in about 4 or 5 hours. yes, you can go to bed.

imho ArenaNet should just stop giving us the patch date (for big even patches) and only tell us about the event starting time. that way, poeple wouldn’t complain about an unexpected patch a few hours/a day before the actual event starts.
