I think what a lot of people are saying, is that these problems have arisen due to an ill conceived system, created as an ill conceived solution.
Lets think back to the facts:
DR was created so people can’t speedrun dungeons.
Dungeons were spedrun via exploits.Look at the above two statements and tell me, shouldn’t they have just fixed the exploit in the first place? Bugs aside from the DR system, it actually opens a can of worms where some players are running the dungeon just under the 30 minute mark, because they are efficient, and getting penalized for it.
of course they’re fixing the exploits. but they’re also aware that they need a safety net for exploits people haven’t found yet or that could potentially crop up in the future.
though i think it’s also a way of strongly discouraging/combating the MMO-induced farming mentality, treating the game like a job and not a game. if you’re doing speed-runs for rewards and not because they’re inherently fun for you (wasn’t competitive dungeon speed-running a thing in GW1 for a while? never played it myself), you’re playing it not the way it was intended to be played. stop playing the game if all you care about is the reward at the end. or deal with DR.
i still think week-long raid-lockouts are way more restrictive than this.
WoW has (or had, when i still played it) one week raid-lockouts and no one complained about those.
Hello everyone,
several names which included inappropriate language had to be removed here. Please report inappropriate names instead of approving of them.
Greetings
I always do that, and for inappropriate guild names, too (as this is what i was told to do by an ArenaNet employee over in this thread).
However, i still see many of those reported guilds running around with their names or acronyms unchanged. For example, there’s a guild on my server (Dzagonur) with a harmless name. I don’t remember the exact name and it’s german anyway, but their acronym is [BDSM]. Isn’t that against the rules? Even if it stands for something else and the actual name is indeed appropriate?
Or what about guild names like “Eir’s Awesome Boobage” or “Horny Milfhunters” ? I’ve really seen those (though i’m not sure if they’re still around).
My other question is, can i get punished or even banned for filing too many reports? I usually try to only report people with really inappropriate names, but in some cases i’m not sure if it’s actually against the rules. Considering the game has an age rating of 12 here in Germany (and similar ages worldwide, as far as i know) it’s better safe than sorry, right?
it seems to me as if all patches for the game have to be downloaded “traditionally”. i never played GW1, but i heard about the streaming updates and how you just needed to restart your client to suddenly be on a new build.
so, are they just not in (yet?), does anyone have more insight on this?
it’s deliberately designed this way, they’ve always said it would be a game (exclusively) about heroes. if you can’t live with that, you should’ve done a little more research before purchasing the game.
unfortunately, the deleted items still haven’t been restored for me. in the last response (on 9/16), which said my ticket would be reviewed shortly, i was issued this ticket number: [Incident: 120916-002064]
Also note that if you used a one-time-use item, a new distribution will not give you a second use.
does this include beta? because in one of the beta weekends, i used my rytlock mini to see what it looked like. i never used it in headstart/launch/release though.

[BUG] Box of Berserker's Draconic Armor = Berserker's Gladiator Armor = Sad Charr
Posted by: Nemui.6753
hm, i’m not affected by this, but i hope they at least disable this item until they can fix the issue. it’d be good not to have more and more people having to deal with this
For those of you who are experiencing missing lines in cinematic conversations: are you playing a male or female character?
female norn here.
i submitted my ticket about a week ago, but only now stumbled upon this thred. if i understood this correctly is hould just post my ticket number here anyway? my issue is that i accidently deleted the one character that had the DDE-items on it. my mistfire wolf works just fine, though.
Ticket #120916-002064
edit: i just thought of something else.. since i’m in germany, should i even be posting here? cause i was automatically assigned to the european support team and submitted my ticket there. if this is the wrong place for me to post, is there a european equivalent of this thread somewhere?

when trahearne died, this story step bugged out for me, too. i repeated it and kept trahearne alive and let him take the lead the next time around and it worked fine. don’t know if that’ll help anybody.
He’p me be the best I can as a member of the group!
hm, i suppose i can try.
Signets in slots 6-9
there’s your problem. lose the signets. all banners or shouts are more useful for your group, because they actually affect your group and not just yourself. two shouts i’d recommend are “For Great Justice” and “Shake It Off”. the first one simply helps your group dish out a little more damage and the second one removes a condition from every member of teh group, use it when your allies and/or you are poisoned, for example.
you could also try a simple banner build, just pick three (or four, with the elite) banners and use them during long fights. if you use the elite war banner, you can also rally people from the downed stat and revive fallen NPCs in the area you summon the banner in. this can be very handy at times.
as far as weapons go, i usually run hammer/rifle or hammer/longbow, i just really like the hammer. that’s personal preference but you should always have a ranged option to swap to in boss fights.
that’s some basic stuff.
oh and in general, always try to rezz people who are still downed and not defeated.unless they’re in some deadly AoE damage field or something. if they (or you) are defeated, it’s usually a good idea to revive yourself at the last waypoint.
and don’t forget you can set targets by pressing “ctrl+t”. then your group members just have to hit “t” in order to take your target. this makes focusing down specific enemies easier.

i mostly agree with you OP, i had the same audio bugs. which i find weird, because i think that’d be a problem that’s relatively easy to fix by now.
same about the fight against zhaitan, i think it’s bugged. zhaitan does actually summon small poison AoEs during the fight. but they disappear very quickly and when i deliberately stepped into them, they only caused about 150 damage per second or maybe twice per second. and they leave a pretty harmless poison on you as well.
i really feel like in this last part, it was supposed to spawn minions to fight us while some of us man the cannons and try to bring it down.
is this really what the fight was supposed to be like, Anet?
Zhaitan was so small, he should have been as big as he was in the concept art,
i thought so too, at first. but it was pretty big compared to the airship, and you have to consider that the airship itself is pretty huge, iirc.
then again, i really thought the elder dragons were supposed to be still larger than this. i think i read somewhere kralkatorrik is suppposed to be as big as a mountain (range)?

Hahaha, I can tell you with complete certainty that having a tank specced person in the party is guaranteed to make every dungeon run incredibly smoother than without. I would rather wait around for a tank to show up and have some smooth runs than take anything and have one run that takes forever to complete. Having a support-focused elementalist or engineer does wonders for survivability of everyone too. There’s a reason the holy trinity exists and that most MMOs today are built around it- it’s because it works. The holy trinity exists in GW2, it just isn’t necessary like in other games. You dont HAVE to bring a guardian, but it sure helps a lot. It’s not a gaming mechanic, it’s a gaming term.
(for some reason the quote button is missing in this thread (or this sub-forum?))
if this is correct (presonally, i don’t necessarily believe it is, so far), ArenaNet failed to deliver what they promised.
authenticators are just a way for blizzard to leech even more money from their flock of sheep.. uh, playerbase.
if you can’t see how two-factor authentication is just as “real” of a security system, i can’t help you.
a while before launch (and beta, even), i heard it’s mainly proximity and then how much damage you deal.
i just heard you get more loot if you’re in a group as opposed to soloing. just out in the world, goin DEs or whatever.
is there some hidden mechanic no one told us about or is this just someone making stuff up?
the person who told me this, invited me to a group when i ran past a few players doing DEs in the Cursed Shore map. i think they were farming. when i mentioned i didn’t even know why i was invited to the group, they said “you get more loot in a group.”
so yeah, is this true?
So let me get this right Nemui, each time i wish to have fun i should ask 10 -20 of my friends to move to some other server ? Thats great solution.
no, you should permanently settle over to a different server with lower population.
- Maintenance exceeded the ETA by a few hours
is this true? i wasn’t on at the time, but it sounds like this is something we shouldn’t expect to see again in the future. hopefully.
before the game launched, many people (myself included) thought there would be no scheduled downtime anyway.. i never playd GW1 myself, but i’ve been told time and time again that they only had a day or two of downtime in almost seven years, i believe?
there are multiple WvW maps, have you tried all of them?
regardless, transfer to a lower pop server. if you want to play with guildies and friends take them with you. it won’t just improve the game for you, but for everyone else as well. transfers are still free, use the opportunity.
no face-to-face trading is a deliberate decision on ArenaNet’s part and working as intended. it’d be a waste of effort to implement this ancient “feature”, because you either exchange items with your friends/guildies who you can trust (through mail) or otherwise just use the global trading post.
both of these features are instant and work wherever you are (you just have to pick up stuff later if you buy something on the TP).
(edited by Nemui.6753)
I dont even get that good of a feeling when i wreck someone’s face.. no incentive to pvp (some of us like pvping to get the better stuff instead of average joe with the same stats as me facerolling to victory)
i’m afraid this is not the game for you, then.
i wish Anet could just forcibly redistribute the playerbase across servers. so it’d be more or less fair. but apart from trying to leave guilds and friendlists in tact as much as possible, it would be also incredibly difficult to try to predict the playing time each individual player would be spending in WvW and balance accordingly.
it’s a pipe dream, i guess. maybe incentives for guilds to switch to low-pop servers would be something feasible?
something tells me that my server (Dzagonur [DE]) will never leave the match-up at the very bottom of the EU server list. it is one of the 3 worlds they added later, after all.
Going back trying to do Dynamic Events etc I find them not that interesting because those XP points just don’t mean the same when not leveling.
so.. how about legendaries?
No it’s not a bug, only 50 people can get loot from boss fights. If there are are 50 and you didn’t do damage to it first or enough damage to stay in the top 50, then you are not rewarded
is this true? i’m pretty sure that even if this is how it works currently, it’s not intended.
just as you not getting your loot is not intended, OP. i understand you’re upset by spending your time and missing out on a cool reward, but please don’t pretend it’s by design or intentional.
i guess filing a bug report is all you can do about it for now :/

i haven’t been there yet.. but when they first announced Orr they said they wanted it to feel like a D-Day (Normandy landing)-type experience, where players would have to basically conquer every inch of the land. seems like they succeeded.
i’ve been using the following setup:
movement: WASD
interact: F
weapon skills: 12345
heal: Q
utilities: ERX
elite: C
prof-specific mechanic: shift+1/2/3/4
dodge: mouse 4 (one of the side buttons)
weapon-swap: mouse 3 (middle mouse button)
auto-run: mouse 5 (one of the side buttons)
about face: ~
look behind: z
also, i’m using the fast-cast option in the general menu.
my mouse is the logitech mx518
http://www.scientiaweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Logitech-MX518-Gaming-Mouse.jpeg
wow, i should’ve gotten in on this one.. too bad i missed the first week of launch and i’ve been taking my time levelling so far. i’m only 67 by now.
i seriously doubt anyone will get punished for doing this, i guess what regina said is basically a “get out of jail free card” for everyone doing this.
some people pointed out that overflow servers and guesting basically enable you to do this legitimately. i would imagine, though, that ArenaNet will probably make your “node status/progress” carry over into overflows and guesting on other worlds in the future. so that when you mine something on your server, and change servers, it would still be gone.
i just wish they had (character/account/item) rollback functionality ready to get rid of all the illegitimately gained ores/items/resources/gold.
tried this dungeon in explorable two times so far, never got past the worm boss at the start. like you, i’ve also been wondering if it’s working as intendend, because the nightmare vines (the smaller mobs, not the flowers. i guess those are meant to respawn) respawn through the entire fight even though it says “6/6 nightmare vines killed” or something.
We try to employ kite & reset strategy, but ultimately failed due to the 2-3 Knights’ chain Aoe Stun leap. The initial person that aggro the mob seems impossible to escape this chain attack. We tried stealth, dodge teleport, etc ( seems like no way around this).
i didn’t get that far into explorable mode yet, but this sounds like a case for stability.
Spamming map chat for groups isn’t worth your time. Find a guild with people who enjoy the part of the game you enjoy, and then have fun.
I know, I know, it’s an odd concept, joining a community of like minded players in an MMO to pursue a common goal. But the shock will pass.
problem is, 98% (okay, i made this one up) of the playerbase go “meh, rewards/loot are kitten. not worth the effort.” after doing a few explorable dungeon runs and/or realizing you needs hundreds of tokens for a set of equipment.
don’t get me wrong, i think it’s fine and enjoy running dungeons. but from what i’ve seen, i’m afraid there won’t be many people to do this with.
can you enter dungeons with cross-server groups? if you can’t, you might wanna tell us which server/world you’re doing this on.
i observed this as well today, as i was trying to record certain “ambient conversations”. and sometimes other NPC nearby would start talking simultaneously and make both of the conversations difficult to follow.
i just made this random, short video because i wanted to share this with friends who don’t (and can’t) play themselves and figured it might be appropriate in this forum section. or should i rather post it over in “Fan-Generated Content”?
anyway, this is probably an insignificant and very small part of game and the entire experience for most people. but personally, i really appreciate what the team has done with these little quips and stories. thanks, ArenaNet!
False, I read an article and Anet said that though there are no mounts in game at the current time that it might be something they will look into in the future.
let’s not forget the if Anet wants to have a successful game they WILL have to listen to what the players want.
1. iirc they said in that article or interview they would only ever add mounts if they could “make them cool” i.e. they won’t do it unless there is a point to them other than movement speed. and i personally believe it’s not worth the effort if it’s just “bling”. it’d be so much more work for Anet than simply adding new armors and weapons, for example.
2. i think they do listen to what players want, but we can’t possibly know what the majority wants unless there’s be a mandatory poll or something. speak for yourself.
but there are no horses…
i don’t know the name of it, but you should try the event chain in Hunter’s Gorge, east of Ebonhawk in the Fields of Ruin. it was an eye-opening experience for me, lol. i think that kind of stuff is what the DE system was made for.
i stumbled upon it yesterday and it was a lot of fun, more so than many other events i played before.
so far, crafting has been quite bothersome for me.
i picked up armorsmithing and weaponsmithing and intended to level them along with my character. a few hours into the game i realized i wouldn’t be able to keep up, my character level was outgrowing my crafting level quickly.
i almost exclusively crafted making new discoveries, but every time i decided to craft, i ran out of fine crafting materials way too quickly.
i don’t want to buy them on the trading post because they go for prices that i feel are not worth it. then again, if the demand is that high, i can understand that the price rises.
i most recently i replaced weaponsmithing by jeweler, mainly because i had kept all jewels i have found through my entire progress. i had discovered everything i could at the beginning and then had to craft old stuff quite a few times in order to progress. since i didn’t get any crafting experience for copper ore => bronze ingot, i guess (i had trained that in armorsmithing, after all).
i don’t think the system is flawed though, i just wish i knew where to get more fine crafting materials (claws, bones, totems, etc.) from.
imho the difficulty’s fine in most cases. it’s just that the vast majority of people have no clue how to play this game yet.
also, kitten everyone who’s crying for more/better rewards. first you cry for raiding, and then you basically get it, just without the artifical week-long lockout. and now you still complain.
okay, i just did a quick test and it’s pretty clear that at least Combustive Shot follows the “AoEs are limited to 5 targets” rule i quoted in the OP.
I really wanna say Barrage hits more than 5 enemies at once as that’s the most common skill I use on a large group of enemies. It’s hard to say since I just see a bunch of damage numbers come up at the same time but I’ve never actually counted them.
hm.. intersting. i think the damage numbers float there for a short time, too (so you’re actually able to read them). i could imagine that sometimes, it seems as if you’re hitting more targets when you’re actually only dealing damage to 5 targets at once.
imho there is no need to p2p trading because the economy is supposed to be global in gw2. why would i want to spent 15 minutes or more looking for people in the same map who wanna buy my stuff, when i can have a fair, instant trade?
i think many people only want p2p trading because it’s what they’re used to, and they don’t really understand the idea of a global, unified and fair trading in gw2 yet.
(edited by Nemui.6753)
bump. anyone got some info/data on this?
i’ve been having similar issues today. some events and/or skill point challenges didn’t seen to work properly in gendarran fields, but almost half of the events i encountered in the fields of ruin were bugged/stuck.
just because you see the same gold spammer advertizing multiple times a day (or over the course of 3 days), doesn’t mean they’re ignoring the problem. aren’t they banning in waves anyway? if you see the same guys still spamming in two weeks, we should be concerned.
the saddest thing about the gold sellers, and it pains me almost every time i see one, is that you can tell by their names they’re -most of the time- using hacked accounts of actual (former, i guess) players.
i do hope they won’t make enough profit and leave in a few weeks.. but maybe it’s too much to ask of people to stop buying from them.
that makes me wonder, how long do you think will they keep spamming and their business “running” until they need to see some profit? would they already have left by now if no one (or almost no one) bought from them? or do they have like a “grace period” of a month or so?
For what I know boons do not fall under that. (I ran a banner build in WvWvW and buffed everyone around a dolyak 10+)
For attacks I have yet to see that in action.
banner buffs are not boons though. or are you talking about the swiftness boon on skill 3 when you pick them up?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Banner
I tried to get Your Herald.
Apparently there’s more than one person in this game with a keen sense of humor.
haha
i couldn’t even try to get “Nemui” because i was in hospital for headstart and the first week of launch
Area of effect refers to skills or other gameplay mechanics that affect creatures in a specific proximity to the target. An area of effect skill may only affect a maximum of 5 targets.
from the wiki, as seen here
my question is, does this affect all skills in the game? are there exceptions? if so, do those follow a rule? like “only boon-applying skills are not limited to 5 targets” or something?
i’d really like to know more about this and about why exactly this decision was made (looking at you Jon :P ). i’m not implying it’s bad, in fact i do think it’s good for balance’s sake.
it’d be awesome if the devs (i guess this would be a topic for J.P.) could comment on this.
