On the other hand it is possible that many people suck and need to learn to play. Anet cannot help you with that.

Or you can try reading the first post and realize how the player was kicked at the last stage which is killing the boss. If he did sucked, he would of get the kick way before.

Actually, not always the case. I’ve been in a pugged frac run a long time ago where the pugs were complaining all the time (with good reasons) about a thief in our group who literally went down every 5 seconds or so. At first I thought they didn’t kick him because they were being nice ( 3 of the group members knew each other ) but they in fact just kept him around just to kick him at the third fractal. That player was so bad that he was actually playing with almost completely broken armor, naked, and didn’t even think of relogging to repair or anything. They pretty much kept him around just for the sake of kicking him at the end after having spent 40 minutes in that group being laughed at. The third fractal was the swamp (it was a time where pugs hadn’t fully adopted rolling swamp as first yet) and they kicked him right before engaging mossman.

I don’t approve of this kind of thing and would almost certainly rather kick someone early, or, if I didn’t kick him, put up with it until the end, but there are people who will wait until the end to kick just because they hate you.

What a wall of excuses. Why not just accept that fact that there are scammers out there that are kicking party members at the last boss to either sell the spot or get a guildy/friend to get the xp/gold/mats.

You are an idiot. I was a pug, they didn’t kick me, hence, they weren’t doing anything to sell spots, and that player I saw getting kicked at the third fractal was a terrible player. Like it or not, there are players who find enjoyment in inflicting harm to players they don’t like. Not all kicks are done for scamming sake.

The obsession on path selling is getting old.

As for the video, it’s good and I’m kind of flattered that someone would go through such trouble just for me but I’m not going to play that kind of build on my guardian. I don’t find it fun.

Crossplay

- The ranger dies and, for the next 7 minutes, I’m barely staying alive while tanking 7 to 9 of these dogs. When I miss a crucial heal and finally die, I notice my party hanging back and spamming auto attacks. My grief was strangely alleviated as the mobs made short work of my team.

GG. Fun is spending 7 minutes to kill a pack of mob that can be killed solo in 1 minute. Oh, wait, you didn’t actually manage to kill anything. Nevermind, fun is in running a loser’s build and playing bad. Ok.

I don’t find it fun. When I want to challenge something seriously, I’ll use my Mesmer instead. Yes, with Rampagers because I don’t want to be a clone. I have enough of them.

Your comments above betray a shocking lack of empathy for your fellow players.

Empathy ? what is empathy? Can I eat it?

Heck, I run this path everyday, I welcome 80s that actually bring a 1200+ range weapon (Point at guardian without scepter.)

If you’re “pointing at guardians” for not ranging this boss you clearly should stop running this path. Having one guardian alone is enough to enable any group to full melee burst this thing down.

Why we NEED Ascended gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nikaido.3457

And even on a gear treadmill basis they could have unlocked fotm 50+ already. 55 AR is too much for 48 because it makes agony a joke and gives incentive to bad pugs to do higher level runs. AR should never negate the agony of the highest unlocked level so strongly that the mechanic becomes pointless. Agony should always be something you should dodge at the highest levels unlocked.

They didn’t unlock 50+ yet because they don’t give a crap about the content. They don’t want to give you more content they want you to grind mindless stuff. Go, kill some more jormag and teqatl.

No matter what, you still have to go out of your way to do ridiculously stupid content like temple and dragon bosses to get dragonite. I’m fine with Empyreal, they’re found in both wvwvw and dungeons. The bloodstone dust drops in massive quantities and everything and their mother is a champion in this game (Dungeons, WvWvW, open world PVE, there isn’t a place without ton of champions to kill..).

Dragonite isn’t the only issue with ascended gear, but it’s quite the massive pain in the *.

The vuln on crit -60% chance- trait doesn’t have any internal cooldown. Any skill like fiery rush, but also burning speed etc with ton of instant multiple procs will get 25 vuln just from the ele.

Everyone stop complaining about ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nikaido.3457

Exactly, that’s my point. The ascended gear will let them give us higher level content to complete. Ppl want content they want harder content, we need the gear to be able to do it successfully. They’re probably going to come out with more fotm zones or zones like fotm that require high AR to complete it for greater rewards.

What’s wrong with that?

You don’t want harder content or you wouldn’t be asking for more AR. You’d be asking for them to unlock 50+. You don’t need AR to do fractals, you only need it if you are too braindead to dodge and hard content is not meant for the braindead.

+1 to what AuldWolf said. You’re just the typical MMO locust, while most of the players in this thread bought GW2 on the premise that it would not bend over to the locust. MMO are the only games where players have been brainwashed to the point of thinking that they need a grind to have fun. Anyone who has played games like Quake 3 knows that there is no need for a “progression” system for games to have enjoyable, repeatable content.

Ascended weapons are not acquired by doing the hard content. They’re not acquired by doing anything of worth. They are acquired by wasting time pressing 111 on world bosses. And chasing their kitten timer, and guesting on other servers etc because it would be too fun to access content through things other than a timer and grinds are not meant to be fun. The actual fractal runners don’t want that crap. They want to run more dungeons/fractals. They don’t want to kill stupid world bosses.

> Find a pug that can get through a lvl 38+ fotm with ease…

This is not an argument. If by the time you reach lvl 48 you still can’t dodge any of the agony causing attacks you shouldn’t even be doing and polluting fractal runs with your presence. I don’t care about bad fotm pugs.

Hard content is not meant to be facerolled with gear or it wouldn’t be hard content in the first place. Btw you sound more and more like bad PR. “Ppl want more than 55ar”? where did you get that? did you do a poll? a survey? from your guildmates? map chat? the way you talk truly feels like paid PR. You’re talking as if you knew as a matter of fact what the community wants, which is not possible, and it’s the way paid astroturfers usually talk.

You clearly don’t do high level fractals. Infusion slots are so necessary you could do everything except for the maw with zero AR.

The way you wrote everything reminds me of PR talk rather than an actual player praising the game. “into some of the most amazing content” gave me a good chuckle.

You don’t really do fractals, do you? you speak like a gaming “journalist” writing about a topic he’s been given but never spent much time with.

50+ is hard capped. 55 AR doesn’t help there. 55 AR only helps making 48 even more faceroll than it already was at 45. 50+ is accessible in that you can be a masochist and do odd, zero reward levels to progress but you don’t get the daily chest since the maw is hardcapped. As long as it’s hard capped no amount of AR could get you through the maw, not even a full set of ascended armor would.

The flaw of Ascended Weapon Boxes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nikaido.3457

Nikaido.3457

Virtually every piece of gear I’ve equipped in GW2 has come from a dungeon/karma vendor, crafting or the TP. I’ve never seen another game where I equip so few of the items that I get as drops.

And they keep making it worse by adding useless stats combo to the game. This worsens the RNG. Your chance of getting a decent stat combo are much lower on ascended weapons because they can also drop in Celestial form for example (stats combo not found on random rare/exotics drop). Ascended weapons can drop in so many type of stats combo that the chance of you getting anything decent is incredibly low, even lower than it was on exotic drops.

GW2 has the worst drops and use for drops ever. Most mmo I’ve seen will make you smile from time to time from the nice drop you get to use or sell. You almost never get anything worth selling (the only thing that can drop that is worth selling are precursors, and a couple champion weapons), and almost never anything worth using. Everything is just salvage material for globs and now dark matter. Except that if ascended weapon are anything like the rest of the ascended gear, you can’t salvage them. Which makes them BEYOND USELESS. You can’t sell, you can’t salvage, you can’t do anything with that crap. It’s just there to poke fun at you.

Just like with Sorrow’s Embrace Path 2 golems, to kill the Lupicus you need to chip at their health until they’re all at 5% hp and kill them at the same time. If you miss, the Lupicus and Dredge Carts will respawn.
Make that “Arah Path 5 : The Dredge Experiment”.

I certainly don’t care for the Trinity, but “one build/gear-set to rule them all” is equally sucky on all accounts.

Why ? because you want to feel like you are a unique snowflake ? It’s fine the way it is considering the ascended grind, the very thought of having to get multiple set of different stats on this would make me feel nauseous.

Seeing the fact that even in solo play like the Gauntlet berserker gear was still pretty much the best to do encounters like Liadri, and that it still puts complete emphasis on player ability and dodge rather than passive things like tanking I’d say anet is currently agreeing with us on the direction PVE should take.

There are weapon sets designed around conditions, control, support none of them is needed and in most groups not allowed.

Oh? So mesmers don’t use focus? Guardians never use their hammer (ring of warding, banish, immobilize), their staff (line of warding), greatsword (AoE pull)? Warriors never use mace 5. Thieves never use pistol offhand (blinding powder, headshot). I’ll pass on engineer because they can’t be built without having some form of built-in control and support.

We remove conditions, we use aegises, blinds, we use control as much as we can and where it makes sense, you just don’t see it and have zero experience in speedclearing dungeons.

The only thing you mention we don’t use are conditions. And by conditions I mean things like bleed. Because otherwise, we do use conditions. We spam blind. We spam vulnerability (best condition in the game). And sometimes we use chill when there’s the odd engineer in the group. We use cripple quite often (they help in certain situations like pulling the aggro from the abomination in arah while preventing their rush attack from hitting you). The only type of condition nobody cares for : torment, bleed, poison, which are damage conditions and of course they suck compared to direct damage.

So, you are wrong in all accounts. Conditions are used, just not the ones that would make a Rabid Necro important or useful in any way, shape or form. Control is massively used. Support is massively used (aegis, regen, protection, reflection, condition removal etc).

There’s just no justification for you to be a useless passive healbot who stands in the back of the group doing nothing but spamming heals while the rest of the group carries you through content. You can bring some form of support, and control, and even conditions, but you can’t just sit in the back and be some sort of carried member who’s patting himself in the back for being necessary in a Trinity world.

Some weapons would be useless even if conditions mattered in PVE. Scepter for example on Mesmer does terrible direct damage and only has confusion as a condition and it’s really bad in most pve situations. Changing the content would not change the fact that this weapon is bad. You’d need to change the weapon itself. Even on a condition build it’d still be pretty bad. Even if conditions were buffed.

Anet recently made a statement that not all weapons should be useful in all situations, when people were asking if they intended for Staff (on elementalist) to be terrible in TPVP. They acknowledged that staff sucks in TPVP and that they will do nothing about it.
It would be logical that they apply the same reasonining to PVE and that not all weapons should be equal in PVE. /thread

Perception of classes and pugs are inconsistent and mostly wrong. Necromancer’s Blinds are pretty strong, but that’s it really.

Strong aoe blinds are cool but necro would be cooler if it was unique to them, and it’s not. Engineers and thieves have a ton of aoe blind and guardians can spam a fair amount of it. Elementalists also have some spammable blind with Lightning Hammer, a blind field with glyph of storm on earth attu and some other aoe blind on their weapons. You know the class sucks when one of the few redeeming feature is done by other classes that can also do practically everything else better than they do.

So far if you start with a two handed weapons, you’ll get faster access to full ascended stat + 2 infusion slots than if you start with one handed weapons. What gives?

Lol, so that’s completely worthless…

It should be the other way around, you might get stuck with a worthless item, but at least you’ll get the stats you want, I personally think that’s better than having worthless stats on a weapon you do want, because either way, you’re not gonna use it.

You would rather be stuck with a weapon your class is unable to use at all versus a weapon your class can use but has undesirable stats?

I like the way they implemented it. At least it will be something that I am capable of using.

I have all 80s except for necro. I don’t care which weapon drops, I’d rather have useful stats than trash like cleric that I would salvage or vendor. (Can ascended weapons even be salvaged ? or can they be sold for a couple silvers to vendors like ascended rings?)
This system is incredibly bad. What was the big idea ? “we let them chose the weapons but most of their drops will have useless stats”? what?

@ Ethics

Bad exotic drops can be sold on the TP (except for the dumb FOTM ones) and can also be mystic forged (even the fotm ones can be MF’d). Mystic forging exotics can get you a chance at getting precursors. Ascended weapons are account bound and worthless crap. An ascended drop with bad stats is worth LESS than a rare drop by virtue of being completely, 100% useless, and you don’t see anything wrong with that?

But you don’t need ascended crap. /s

For now. Do you really think that with the whole shebang it will make no difference in wvwvw (and probably future content) ? they intend to introduce ascended armor, if you don’t work for the current stuff you will be so far behind that it will take you forever to get everything by the time it becomes mandatory. It used to be only accessories, which don’t really make a huge difference, but you go from accessories and then weapons then armor.. then who knows what, because they started doing vertical progression and I don’t think they’ll stop anytime soon.

My opinion is that if you don’t really try to get full sets now you might seriously regret it later depending on the direction this game takes.

Then there’s also the fact that most pugs will kick you out of fractals for not having max AR. I’m sorry but I don’t really want to be kicked because I don’t have max AR, despite the fact that I’m fine with dodging agony. When people were getting accessories, they started asking for 40 AR, then 45, for 48 runs. I’m pretty sure that two or three months from now they’ll ask for 55.

The ascended stuff feels like it comes from the depths of the abyss. Crafting, for most people (I do know there are some who enjoy doing it, and selling stuff) is the least fun part of an MMO, and in most MMO, only people who enjoy crafting will pick it up. They just made crafting mandatory.

So far the way anet has worked is that they want you to do all the content whether it’s any good or not. This is terrible. You have to do guild missions if you want the ascended earrings without spending ton of laurels and glob. You have to craft for ascended weapons (and spend a kitten ton of gold in the process). You have to do dailies for laurels, and log on every day if you don’t want to be left behind (what’s the logic in the daily system? say, if I play a lot more hours during the week ends, and don’t play during some days of the week, why should I be behind someone who plays 30 minutes per day but logs on every day?).
Funnily enough the one and only thing you don’t have to do are dungeons. You do need to do some fractals as a more reasonable way to get rings though, and have the ingredient for backpiece.

So much for “play as you want”, and “no grind”. They did promise there’d be no grind for stats, only for skins like legendaries and the previous expensive exotics. Ascended stuff completely turned this game into the regular grind mmo.

He wants to be that guy who sits in the back doing nothing but spamming heals.

Control and support are essential in decent runs but he doesn’t want to have to do these roles while also being a dps and having to pay attention to his dodges.

Truth is most people asking for a “healer role” are just asking for anet to give them the ability to be carried by their group.

Even thieves do support when they use smoke screen and blinding powder to blind trash mobs. Warriors are doing control when they interrupt things with their mace 5. etc. But the one thing all support and control have in common is that they’re not there to the detriment of dps. You don’t have to use “control” gear. Or “support” gear. Guardians will give reflection, aegis, blind, control (ring of warding, line of warding) no matter what they wear.

Baddies want an important “healer role” because they don’t want to have to pay attention to stuff. They want to watch health bars and press the heal buttons.
That’s not how it’s supposed to work. GW2 is not your carry mmo.

Yes it sucks, but it wasn’t a nerf, just a bug fix. All other functionalities of the weapons remain unchanged.

They promised to buff conjures and engi kits on the level of ascended weapons. They went back on that promise. It’s a nerf.

It wasn’t a purely accidental change. They did say right before the buff on conjure that they would do it.

I don’t really mind all that much though, I can’t hear the conjure and optimized groups cries over the fun I’ve had since I’ve started playing d/f. I’ll leave conjure builds to people who really care strongly about shaving off seconds off runs. d/f has enough damage for a casual speedrun.

We had a 20 min arah p4 using 4 rangers + 1 engi. Noone of us was used to those character so I believe 3 ramger + 3 necro is quite viable.

Everything is “viable” with exploits.

We did not exploit a single boss.

So why did you exploit simin when we ran together. And tried to bug the spin guy into not doing anything. I’m sure I believe your 20 min runs with no exploits. No, actually, I don’t. This whole I don’t exploit thing might work on people you haven’t run with but this run was enlightening considering the fact that it was like 2 weeks before your whole “I report exploiters on gw2lfg” thing.

Just playing the game shows how Fiery Rush allows you to instantly melt stuff like Lupicus. But I’m sure you like your Elementalist and want to keep it that way.

There’s only a 8 seconds difference between your group best non-fgs kill and the best fgs kill.

Rather than build, I just learned of someone who thinks 3 ranger + 2 necro should be seen as a viable party compo for all content in this game. This is stuff of nightmares.

This is the only mmo where people complain that they can’t do all content in a decent manner without a balanced party composition that has at least a modicum of reflect (you don’t need a guard to have enough reflect for F/U). In all other mmo requiring a balanced party for some of the higher end content is considered normal. Nobody would complain they can’t do [insert boss with enrage timer] because they don’t have a dps in their party etc.

But in GW2, require any sort of mechanic and suddenly people whine like crazy. They should be able to do all content on the worst build, worst 5 party set up and still be able to get through everything.

We 4manned it on engi/ele (without FGS, and without LH)/war/guard. We could’ve added a 5th as pretty much any class it wouldn’t have mattered, and replacing the war with anything else also wouldn’t have really changed the course of the fight much since it wasn’t really an optimized dps party. The engi or ele could’ve been a thief it wouldn’t have mattered either (thief has smoke screen and strong dps on their own).

Now if you want to succeed with a 5 necro or 5 warrior party good luck but you’re not entitled to succeed with terrible party compos. Well, technically, you can, since this boss can be soloed but kiting while autoattacking at range will take you more time than it’s worth.

Arah is supposedly part of the end game, and one of the only lvl 80 dungeons (with no downscaling involved). It has been a year since release, I can’t fathom why this kind of stuff hasn’t been fixed yet.

How about making it an aura? Just knocks everything around you, deals some damage, gives you stability and reflects projectiles? And we keep our abilities and attunement swap. That way we don’t have to swap our 20 weapon skills, heal and 3 utilities for 3 terrible transformation abilities.

As much as I love this idea, having an 18 second stability seems a little TOO extreme even though we eles know we need it.

The fire attunement is a bit problematic, in a thematic way, for a mainly control and defense weapon. “Earth Shield” “Swirling Winds” and so on make sense, but what kind of control and defense can we give to Fire? “Crippling burn”?
