ALL I WANT FOR XMAS IS GEMSTORE SALE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They have had the same armor skins in the store for months. They could rotate a little more frequently. By the time what I want is back, there’s a good chance I’ll have lost interest by then.

After being disappointed with no Black Friday sale, I’m not optimistic for a Christmas sale.

Winter's heart aura misses the mark.

I’d much prefer auras surround a player with color/effects, as auras generally do, rather than actually color a player and/or their gear. I choose my skin tones (a bit on the tannish side) and armor dyes for a reason. Pale/offcolor skin tones look horrible in any game I’ve played. Thus, the auras in this game are not something I care for at all.

Transmutation/Skins still disappointing

Nikal.4921

From what I’m seeing in this thread and have seen in others, I don’t see what income Anet would be losing by ditching the trans charge system. Clearly no one buys them from the store. All charging gems for them does is limit how often we can change our look- at least I know I limit how often since I’m not about to pay money or gold for them. If we didn’t have to pay for charges, I don’t see Anet being out much if anything, and we would be free of the current limitations. Wouldn’t the good will (and perhaps increase in store armor skin sales) be worth it?

Coming from games who let you change your look for free, store different looks so you can one-click for whichever “outfit” you are in the mood to wear that day, and have all store items always available, I have to say I find GW’s wardrobe system pretty unpalatable.

You are not alone OP.

Add these human female hairstyles!

Love that first hair style you posted (the long hair), Alga. I love long hair, but unfortunately, much of the armor/outfits in this game are designed in a way to cause terrible, unsightly clipping problems with long hair. As much as I’d like to wear long hairstyles, I generally confine myself to shorter hairstyles because of this.

This game has spoiled me.

It’s been many years since I played LOTRO, but I thought that game had the best wardrobe/dye system bar none. It’s what I miss when I play any other MMO.

While I miss mounts (loved collecting them), this game does seem a bit easier to get around in with all the waypoints. But mounts are one more way to personalize your character, from your choice of models.

I do appreciate that zones do not outgrow their relevance. I enjoy seeing people of all levels everywhere I go.

Scythe Greatsword Skin

To repeat a past suggestion, they should add the old Gw1 tengu weapon set and use the scythe skin on greatsword.

Oh, those look really nice. I wish we could have more weapons/skins that look that good in GW2. From what little I’ve seen of the artwork on gear in GW1, it surpasses much of GW2’s by a large margin.

I would love to see more Scythe models worked into GW2, however that can be accomplished. Great for Necro at the least.

Personally, I think selling gamble boxes should be prohibited by law. Maybe one day, they will be, once enough people get burned and make a big enough fuss. It’s predatory, no way around that, and there are other methods of monetization that are way more consumer friendly. Gamble boxes are a lazy and mean-spirited (IMO) way for gaming companies to make a little more money in the short term and can have terrible long term PR consequences.

There is enough RNG in these games, why should we be paying for RNG as well?

Bitterfrost: Explorable content locked in BLC

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nikal.4921

I’m a little amazed how some people just don’t “get” what the problem is here. IF Anet sells a ton of Black Lion Keys because of people trying to get to this area, and they can track this of course, then what will happen in the NEXT area, and the one after that? This is how big problems get started. Right now its an empty terrace. What if in the next area its a terrace with a banker, a merchant, and a trading post vendor? Then they sell twice as many keys! Cool! So the next area has all of the above + some neat ruins to explore. More keys. Next area adds a Mastery Point. Next area adds a unique champion fight, etc. THIS is how all of that starts. And the number of people who can’t see this right now is disheartening.

Personally I hope that they see ZERO increase in key purchases, despite how much I like these new zones and the game in general. I WANT them to make more money, but not like this.

Exactly. Sets a terrible precedent. Rift started out small with an item that could only be gotten via gambling with lockboxes and over time expanded to many items, the most desirable (to many players) items in the game. They got a horrible rep for it and players leaving in droves (over this and Turbine’s many other bad decisions). I hate to think of Guild Wars headed in this direction.

How many threads did I see posted on the Rift forum by bitter and disillusioned players claiming they had spent $100 or more on lockboxes trying to get something in particular and just got junk to show for it. They leave with a bad taste and tell their friends. It’s very bad PR. Short term gain for the company maybe, with long term fallout.

A journey, for good or ill, begins with one step, and this journey is for ill, mark my words.

Nikal.4921

I have no problem with trench coats if they’re done well and most aren’t, including brahams new armor. Everything about it I LOVE except the coat part. It’s too stiff and wide. Also, looks incredibly terrible on norns. Seriously, the coat part is much wider on norn. If you’re going to make a coat Anet, atleast make it look good on norns too.

I can’t think of a coat that shouldn’t have a wide load sign on the back, when worn by a Norn. It’s embarrassing.

Also, why do so many long items (coats, skirts, etc.) flair out at the bottom. Clothing falls straight down IRL and it just looks odd and bad that it doesn’t do the same in-game.

Well, except a request for an option to target what is attacking (hitting) me. We had this option in another game and it was very handy, to say the least. Not that that game had the targeting issues this one does, but quite handy nevertheless.

Here is a radical idea. Anet doesn’t want to pony up for more armor sets? So many are tired of outfits because it creates clones and stifles creativity? I saw a suggestion somewhere on this forum about the possibility of Anet creating just individual pieces. How about a shirt? Just a plain shirt- no shoulderpads, highrise or otherwise, no frou-frou or doo-dads, just a plain shirt. I am amazed how many games overlook the basics, even with their players calling for them.

There are some individual (tho pretty ugly) single pieces of armor in the gem store already. Why not add a few basic street clothes?

One big gripe I have, that they added a butt-cape to to the Hall of Monuments medium armor. Why on earth ruin it like that? I much preferred the original and would love to have access to that version.

How to track all the events in a map?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nikal.4921

Nikal.4921

The last game I played that had dynamic events, you could open your map and it would show every event going on in the zone. Man, do I miss that. Much of the time in this game, there will be an indication there is a nearby event but no indication where. Why bother to tell me if you aren’t going to tell me where? Running around aimlessly trying to find the event and it’s done by the time you find it, if you ever find it. So frustrating. I don’t bother looking for them anymore.

There are a few events that do have map indicators- why can’t this be done for all of them?

New spell visuals

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nikal.4921

What they should do, instead of reducing visual noise for no good reason. Is add a very simple choice on the graphic options to reduce the visual noise (which is why removing it completely from the game makes no sense). Whoever wants to have their screen full of visual noise to the point they can’t see, can have that, and whoever feels too ESport to have effects ruin their pro game, can have that as well. Taking one option over the other is pretty ridiculous when you can add the option to do both, and let the player decide their preferences. It’s 2016, not 2006, the technology is there to make it happen. So again minimizing the visual noise by simply removing it, and making the effects of certain skills completely irrelevant (look at how you ruined fireballs for eles, for example), was a mistake by ANET, considering today’s technology. There was a slightly more complicated way to do things that would’ve made every customer extremely happy. And there was a drastically lazier way to do things that would’ve made only half of the customers happy. It’s pretty obvious which option they took.

I would love to see the full effects of spells with the option to turn them down. That’s what I’ve done in other games- just turned them down when I felt I needed to. Options are a good thing.

Those particular boots (Light Carapace) do the same thing on female Norns. It’s hideous and bothers me everytime I view my Norn from the side. Prolly my fave boots in the game, but they only seem to be proportionally correct on female Humans (don’t know anout Charr/Asura)

[Discussion] Your Main Issues With The Game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nikal.4921

Nikal.4921

The nature of the maps in HoT and LS3. I don’t like the vertical, pseudo platforming, nintendo referential, nature of these zones. If I enjoyed playing games where I jump on mushrooms in order to bounce up to capture glowing reward balls…I’d buy some variant of a mario brothers game (or its ilk). I get it, devs grew up on these games. 8 bit nostalgia/fetish is all the rage. Its very hip(ster). Yay.

Longcoats for medium armor. Not that trenchcoats are a terrible thing, but the options are somewhat limited here.

Weapon sizes. Neon surfboards for swords? Really?

I have to give a hearty vote for these issues. The HoT platform style environment is largely why I haven’t purchased HoT- even when it was on sale for half price. This is an RPG game, not a platformer, and I really dislike all the platformer elements in this game. Most jumping puzzles (though not all sadly) I can get a port, but when entire zones are set up this way? I don’t want to deal with it, even though now I guess all my XP is sand being pounded down a rat hole.

And why must 99.99% of medium armor chest pieces be longcoats, and mostly ugly ones at that. IMO, medium armor is GW2’s Achilles Heel as far as fashion. And on Norns, these sets need to come with “wide load” signs on the back. Terribly unflattering to the Norn female figure.

Two foot wide Greatswords? They are hideous and only good if you enjoy clipping issues.

Yeah, Asura are so small, you can’t see any detail on them unless you take the time and trouble to zoom in on them. It’s a big reason I hesitate to level my Asura further. It’s a shame, they can be so endearing! The taller the character, the more detail you can see on them. I max height on all the characters, except I made my Asura the shortest possible- I thought it would be cute. Instead, I’m pretty much a big dot. No idea if there could ever be a solution.

I’d like to be able to switch around to different looks depending on my mood, what I’m doing, etc.- I might want to change looks several times a day. It’s just not doable with having to spend charges every time. What I’m proposing, we could have wardrobe slots and add our looks to those and switch around at will. The other games I’ve played allowed us a dozen or more looks in this fashion.

Nikal.4921

Yeah. I REALLY want that glider. I would have bought it right away with real money not even bothering with gold conversion had it been available straight up.

Now it is also limited time on top of BL Chest exclusive, forcing everyone who wants it to pay up NOW or forever miss out. Amazing. It’s been a while since I hated GW2. This has done it. NEVER AGAIN will I purchase gems with real money. Not because I can’t afford it. Because the RNG is SO disgustingly greedy it makes me sick.

I used 40 keys and did not get the glider. I paid for 20 keys with real money. I feel stupid for having fallen for it thinking at least the chances would be fair and 20 bucks would surely get me the glider.

This game gets no more money from me. So disappointing.

I don’t know how many players posted in the Rift forums about spending $100 and more on lockboxes and still didn’t get the big ticket item they wanted so badly. They were all gutted. But Trion didn’t care about the remorse and regret, they got their money. It would horrify me for people to leave a game I was responsible for feeling so bitter and used. This type of gamble box may not be illegal, but it’s immoral in my opinion, predatory gambling. It makes me sad to see these types of posts cropping up here in the GW2 forum.

Nikal.4921

Now don’t get me wrong I am fine with most of the changes, removal of boosters, etc. The thing I do not agree with is the inclusion of the new glider behind an RNG paywall, this has made something that would usually cost me 400-700 gems (depending on whether it is a backpack combo or not, which I am happy to pay for and support them) into something that cost me over 6000 gems just to get the glider once (not even the other stuff I got from the chests offsets this as it was all just trash items, not even any of the rare stuff).

To me this just looks like a shameless money grab by Anet and makes me worry for what they are going to pull next, I feel that this event has severely damaged their reputation and especially made me sceptical about future changes and additions they will make.

This is approaching Rift’s horrible, horrible lockboxes that have become the only way to get items that once you could get in-game (or buy outright after the game went f2p and the store was introduced). There used to be cool items you could get as (rare) drops during certain events. Then Rift went f2p, and lockboxes were introduced at some point. They slowly pulled the cool rewards you could get as loot, replacing them with items you had to purchase lockboxes for, for a minuscule chance at the item. Rift got a real bad rep for doing this. They really put the “predatory” in “predatory gambling”. I hate to see GW2 headed in this awful direction, as it is likely to drive me from the game, just as I was driven from Rift for such terrible decisions.

3) Creating allure through artificial scarcity only works if you actually bring the item in question back every now and then to capitalize on the desire you’ve created. As you mentioned, people tend to forget about items if too long a period passes where they cannot acquire it. Then they find an alternative, often find it’s better than what they had envisioned originally, and then lose the desire to acquire the gem store armor entirely. Again, this can be alleviated by cycling through items a bit more regularly, keeping a good balance between both sides of the spectrum.

I can think of two times this has happened with me. Really wanted an outfit to cycle around, got sick of waiting, and made do with something else. When what I had wanted came back around, I didn’t get it. They lost two sales. I don’t understand or care for their business model. It’s inconvenient to the customer.

They need, IMO, to revamp the store and just include everything, with a section for rotating seasonal items. Seasonal items I can see being on rotation, but not everything else.

I assume he’s talking about specific weapon / glider / armor skins that he wants that aren’t in the gem store. Most people aren’t going to go into the GS thinking “I’m just going to buy any random thing”. No idea why he didn’t just list the ones he was specifically looking for, but…

This is a discussion that’s been done to death. Yes, limited-time sales of items tick people off. No, its not necessarily a bad business model, because limited time sales will force some people to buy items they wouldn’t have bought otherwise due to being limited and not knowing when they’ll return again.

It will also cause people to change their mind if they get sick of waiting for something and make do with something in-game instead. I think this stock rotation model is ridiculous. When I get in the mood to buy something, I want to buy it then, not months or a year from then. The mood can (and has in some cases) pass.

Why not make all Halloween items and outfits available during the entirety of the festival?

I just don’t understand this bizarre rotation thing Anet has going on, where they keep removing things. I’ve never seen the likes of it. I’d rather see the store expanded and all items available at all times- with the exception of seasonal items which sensibly would be available during their corresponding festivals.
