I have to agree. There are so many wasted assets in this game, it’s mind-boggling. All the Black Lion weapon skins we can no longer obtain, items from one-time or time-limited events that no longer happen, etc. The only limiting that makes sense to me is having items that are only available during seasonal events. Those happen every year, so players get multiple shots at them. What’s the point of locking away assets that players continue to be interested in? Seems like a huge waste of development time.

transmutation stones

Nikal.4921

This transmutation stone system is outdated and clunky, and really holds back players who don’t PvP and like to get creative, experiment, change up as mood dictates. Every game I’ve played previously allows players to change their clothes for free. And some even store looks (wardrobe slots). Let’s get with the times! How can this be Fashion Wars 2 with such limitations?

Storm Bow, can we get it in short bow too?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nikal.4921

Nikal.4921

I mean, it is already the size of a shortbow despite being a longbow (wish the longbow was longer…), so I don’t see why it couldn’t be a skin unlockable for both weapons.

Yes, I certainly don’t think it should be shorter and as longbow, should be longer. I personally prefer weapons that look like weapons and not nebulous mists, but there is a terrible shortage of even passable-looking shortbows in this game. They all look really awful IMO (Exalted Shortbow excepted), and I think Anet would surely see increased sales of this item if they unlocked this skin for shortbows as well.

I might check it out on other races now, as this isn’t something I’d noticed before.

I feel sad when ambient creatires get caught in the crossfire.

Yeah, this really hurts. I do what I can (via positioning, drawing mobs away, etc.) to avoid killing ambient creatures, but sometimes it just happens. In LOTRO, the Elf race could not kill ambient creatures (they were green to Elves), so rolling Elf was a surefire way to avoid causing all those little deaths. I would love if we had a race or class like that in GW2. Perhaps I am being silly…

Female human faces are just grim. Pouting, frowning, angry, not a happy one to be found. Not one of them appeals to me fully either. I wish we at least had more control over mouth shapes, like we do eyes, and we could determine for ourselves whether our characters frown, smile, or neither.

One of the things that drew me to GW2 way back when was no raids. Sad to see that didn’t last. Just didn’t make sense for this game. Really, what has it added to the game?

+10000 for the bookshelf idea. I love collecting these lorebooks in game, but its getting impractical to carry them around on my characters.

I also would like as a more general QoL update, any item that exists solely to fill out a collection should be auto consumed when you pick it up. That way, if it does stick around in your inventory you would know it has another purpose.

I wholeheartedly agree, items with no other purpose than to be added to a collection are auto-added, why not also auto-consumed? What’s the reason for clogging up inventory with these things? Some people are confused by them wondering if they should be holding on to them- I mean why put something in their inventory if wasn’t meant to be held?

how about a Tab instead, Daytime / Night Time / Location and a bunch of self made selections list of looks below them, you could even do it by season or festival too.

A bunch of tabs with different looks would be awesome. This is one of the few features I miss from SWTOR.

The outfit designer in SWTOR worked because you could buy multiple tabs (up to 16 tabs using either in-game credits or cartel coins) and then you could easily flick between any look you had created in a tab at any time for no cost.

Popping to Hoth? Cold-weather gear. Stranded on Tatooine? Bikini time! Easy as pie.

Same with Rift. You get the first x amount of tabs free and pay per tab after that. It’s been quite some time since I played so I don’t recall the numbers, but you can have maybe a couple dozen tabs or thereabouts. An outfit for every mood. I would love to see that in this game rather than the antiquated system we have now.

Totally agree with you both. I can’t imagine Anet makes enough money on transmutation charges to warrant such restriction on players changing clothes. If they were making money hand over fist on charges, there’s nothing any of us could say to dissuade them from the current system, but I just don’t see how they could be.

Every other game I’ve played allows clothing changes at will (except FF14 in which it costs in game currency and is one reason I don’t play it anymore), and it really adds fun and interest to playing.

no problem with armour, just use the rest of the set.

I won’t be purchasing more. Rather, I’ll purchase only armor. When I run out of armor to purchase, well, that will be it, since I guess they won’t be creating more to put in the store.

Item Shortcut / Action Bar

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nikal.4921

Nikal.4921

Indeed, I have played many online games in the past and can say that the quick bar concept works well.
Quick bars and shortcuts are something many games implement, be it single player games like Skyrim and Fallout or multiplayer games like runescape, world of warcraft and is a function that most, if not all players use, it can be said that a quick bar is something that enhances gameplay.
While I understand that some players might not like it because its not great for roleplaying when an items appears in your hand, I think the vast majority of players would prefer to have a helpful gimmick such as a action or Quick bar to aid them in both traveling around the maps as well as in dungeons and personal stories.

To be perfectly honest when I first started playing guild wars I struggled a bit due to the fact that I was so used to having a quick bar from the other games I played.

Amen. Pretty much daily I am wishing for a Quick Bar. Like you, I was so used to having it in other games and struggled with it, but I just gave up. There are numerous items I would use if I had a Quick Bar to slot them in, but instead, the items languish in my inventory. A Quick Bar would be a great enhancement to gameplay indeed.

I broke down and purchased the expac because I wanted the elite skills, and I am so glad I was able to get it on sale, because the zones did nothing to enhance the game for me. I can’t stand when a game uses the environment against the players, and all the HoT zones are, are mazes. I spend as little time as I have to in such zones. I can’t wait to move on to zones more like the core Tyria zones.

I much prefer dark eyebrows/facial hair regardless of hair color since light facial hair just disappears in-game, so I would rather see separate controls. I have at least one face I would love to use, but the eyebrows are light, reddish, and any other hair color than reddish just doesn’t look right to me. I think separate color controls would provide a lot more flexibility.

People keep posting that artificial scarcity is a successful marketing ploy. The only thing it seems to generate w/GW2 is aggravation, frustration, and resentment. It may work in the retail world, but it’s been done there forever and people expect it, almost like a tradition. I think it doesn’t work here because what on earth other video games withhold their merchandise for months or years at a time? Never even letting their customers know when or if something will ever be back? From what I have seen, it’s just not done elsewhere, so its unexpected and just feels rude and kind of mean.

I’d guess you don’t play many MMO’s then, because almost every single MMO I’ve ever played that uses a cash shop also makes use of rotating out items and artificial scarcity. Only ones I can think of that don’t are the low income, low population F2P ones.

I have played games that rotate or have time limited sales on a few premium items, but their main stock (which in all games I’ve played is considerably more extensive than what GW2’s store offers) remains available at all times.

There are very few pieces she looks right to me wearing and so I feel very limited with wardrobe. This may not be a concern to you, however. Wintersday Sales...

Nikal.4921

I get that it is a strategy to string out your offerings during events, but a lot of the hype of the holiday dies down for me once real life holiday hits and is over. Right before the Wintersday patch hit, I was bouncing off the ceiling waiting for it to start. I was lamenting the fact that I only had the one Wintersday outfit and hoping some new offering was headed our way. At this point, however, two days after Christmas I have switched all outfits and wardrobes back to their normal looks and I just don’t have that spirit anymore. You gotta find that sweet spot for these sales.

Maybe I’m completely wrong and your data shows it, but the timing of the mini seems off. I was thinking I was feeling the same about a Halloween sale of something as well, but I can’t recall what was on offer and when during that.

Exactly. I know I am much more likely to purchase seasonal items during the build up to a holiday, not when the holiday has come and gone. True, New Years has yet to come, but I am no longer in a Wintersday mood. I would think the entire month of December, up until Christmas day, would prove booming to sales. Who’s still in the spirit in January?

Just out of curiousity what other mmorpgs let you switch for free, I know wow dont since you have to get the item.
Then pay gold to store and you cant store unlimited items either + pay in game gold to switch the look.

As I posted already, LOTRO does- unlimited free changes and you don’t have to store gear since the game automatically stores images of gear you get. And as I recall (it’s been many years), no class restrictions.

RIFT, unlimited free changes, and they offer a certain number of free wardrobe slots you can store gear in for your look and they sell extra wardrobe slots. Also, their outfits you can buy on the store come in individual pieces, so you can mix and match with them. They revamped their wardrobe system after I left, so I assume there are more options now.

TROVE, unlimited free changes, but they only have outfits that must be used in their entirety (though as I recall, you could turn off at least the helm).

FFXIV you crafted (high level crafting) or bought from the Market Board (Auction House) special crystals to transmute your gear, and they weren’t exactly cheap. Horrible system. I didn’t last long there, but for more reasons than that.

So there are a few that I know of, since those are the only MMO’s I’ve played. Aside from FFXIV, I think GW2 outclasses these games and have hopes (wishes) that they’ll come up with a class wardrobe system.

I just don’t get it- Anet seems bent on selling as little as possible. They keep putting out outfits/armor in styles the players beg them not to (eg yet more trenchcoats, butt capes, skirts, gigantic shoulders that can’t be turned off), won’t put out styles the players do ask for (eg simpler clothing, pants, GW1 style armor that hasn’t been altered to add butt capes and gigantic shoulders), the number of items on the store in general are way too few and those items seldom rotate, and the holidays are pretty much devoid of good sales. It’s like whoever is in charge of the store says “whatever the customers ask for, let’s do the opposite”.

GEM Store Christmas Sale a Flop

They don’t want your money. If they did, they’d bring back Gemstore armor faster than every 6 months or so and capitalize on people begging them to give them things to buy on major holidays. They’d also make the Gemstore better looking than some dusty window with a few tatty offerings in a neglected brick and mortar retail store.

Lol, you put my feelings about GW2’s gem store in general into words. It seems especially dusty and tatty during prime time for sales, but especially today- just pathetic. Between few offerings and the almost never rotation of armor skins that players have been begging to see back in the store so they can buy them, I just don’t understand Anet’s store tactics at all. It truly does seem they want to throttle how much their customers spend. I’ve gotten pretty disgusted with it.

Transmutation/Skins still disappointing

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Nikal.4921

I kind of agree that having Transmutation charges are, dated practices. I also agree that the way we change our characters clothing could be simplified. (outfit slots for our own predetermined armor/dye combinations)

I’d welcome being able to change stuff on whim for free. (some of us get this anyway, just playing the game) The last game I played with a Transmute system was WoW, where you had to visit a vendor to change items appearance, you also had to keep the original item in your inventory/void storage for it to still work (unsure if this has changed, I stopped playing it before Pandaland) I suppose the fact you can only do that in the one place for a gold cost is the tradeoff.

I like the fact I can unlock any skin on any character, regardless of if that character can equip it or not. I also like the fact that I can destroy said item, and it still be there in the Magical wardrobe, to be used anytime I choose. Transmutation Charges are the trade off for that convenience. There is a way to get a lot of them for very little time investment without paying IRL money for them. I suppose it might be considerate to suggest adding charges as map rewards to bring PvE acquisition in-line.

Amen, except for the very last bit. Many years ago, LOTRO changed their wardrobe system so that it stored the image permanently rather than forcing you to keep the piece of gear (w/ the look you were using) in your inventory. Every game I’ve played since (w/ the exception of FF14, haven’t played WoW) does similar. Clogging up storage vs being charged to change clothes, it’s a completely unnecessary trade-off, does not need to exist, and doesn’t in most other games as far as I have seen.

Anet need to get with the times!

Transmutation/Skins still disappointing

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Nikal.4921

Nikal.4921

Not quite exact. You buy clothing, you have the clothing. What a transmutation charge is is more correct to ANOTHER item of the SAME look. Like buying 2 of one shirt.

But you already own the “looks”. Like owning a mattress and owning several sets of sheets. Why should I pay to change the sheets?

Because you’re confusing the two. Think more as your character is the mattress in this scenario. If your character is the mattress, your armor is the sheet. You have only 1 sheet (set of armor) and it is striped. You want a different style one, something with clouds. You have an option of buying another sheet (a second set of armor) that already looks it, or change your current sheet (main armor set) by drawing on it (TC).

What you used as the mattress is the armor, and the skin as the sheet. Now yes, this form would be very nice. But then you’re suggesting free skin changes at will, which I believe was the outfits being put in. I just carry two sheets when I want to change my mattress. Bag space is more limited, but that’s my choice for more looks.

Now, I wouldn’t mind being able to earn more TC for current price, or less price for current amount. However, since most players are normally overflowing with TC, I don’t see that happening soon.

I don’t care whether you are talking about changing the look on the character or changing the look of an item. In either case I have already purchased or gained through play all of the skins I am using. If I have already gained the skins, I should be able to use them at will. I don’t understand why I am being taxed to use the skins I have already earned.

You buy an one time use of the skin, BUT can reuse it when you got extra transmutations, look at it that way – and how hoften do you change skills that you don’t have enough? Every day??

So you honestly believe that purchasing an outfit for 800 gems should be “one use” and then using it again is only 24-30 gems? That doesn’t make any sense. If each is one use, then each use should be the same cost. And why would I have it in my Wardrobe if I can’t actually use it? IRL if I have a shirt in my closet I can wear it as many times as I like.

If Anet meant for a skin to be paid for each time you use it, they should charge less initially. They charge more because they don’t know how often you will use the skin… (how often they can get more $ from you).

But see you don’t have to spend on Gems since you literally get TC for free just by logging in. You don’t even have todo anything. There are ways to get them faster yes, but you get them handed to you.

Three charges a month don’t go very far between my eight characters.

I thought it was awful- clunky, inconvenient, inflexible, certainly compared to the unlimited free access I’d had in other games. And, as mentioned by another poster, one of the games I played offered wardrobe slots where you could change your look in an instant, for free.

The way my characters look is a big deal to me. I don’t PvP or WvW (I’m disabled and limited as to what I can do in games), so charges are few and far between for me and I pretty much hoard the ones I do get. It’s hard to be really sure I’m going to like a look I’ve come up with since the preview window is limited (IMO), and I have to think really hard about it before I spend that precious currency. It all just feels… stingy. I would to see some changes to GW2’s wardrobe system. Making skins you buy from the store have unlimited free use would be a start.
