Watching one ugly outfit after another show up in the gem shop, while those cool town clothes go to waste. Makes me sad.
My suggestion is Tequatl. Get to the map 20-30 min early, kill Tequatl in about 15 min, then kill any remaining time selling (or salvaging) rares/exotics and salvaging the rest. Sell the mats. You even stand a chance at an ascended weapon chest.
2 gold for completing Tequatl plus whatever you get selling the resulting mats.
Based on what I’ve been reading, I fear for these specs in open world, which is all I do. It’s a shame we didn’t get to test them in an open world environment so that my fears could be put to rest (or not). If these specs are meant to be PvP only, then they hold nothing for me.
Personally, I think there could be more titles. Other games I’ve played have had way more, enough that you don’t see most players sporting a title from the same small group of titles.
Some of these masteries added here and there in the core Tyria maps might serve to freshen up those maps a bit for long (and even not so long) time players. Could be fun!
This outfit is in no way “close” for me. It’s so unflattering to the figure on every race/gender I tried it on- maybe passable on Asura. I don’t care how much I like the look of an outfit or piece of armor, if it gives my character a spare tire, thunder thighs, narrow shoulders, noodle arms, etc. I will never wear it. I think this outfit had potential, however, that potential was just not met.
Wish Anet would have outfit design contests. I’m thinking the players could come up with some really nice designs.
I submitted a ticket for receiving a mini I already had (duplicate was account bound) and today received a response that this is not supposed to happen. I was sent a replacement box. So I encourage others who receive duplicates to submit a ticket.
Contact support if you got a dupe. According to a developer post I read today, it’s not supposed to happen for skins that insta-bind. They apparently overlooked the possibility of getting two of the same from the same box.
I purchased one box today. My first purchase of a gamble box ever. Most likely my last. The rewards were bad and included a duplicate of a mini I already had. I thought we were protected from duplications these days. I did put in a ticket, so I’ll see what happens with that.
Let’s be honest, guys:
This material is required in significant quantities, just like many other crafting materials, but the rarity of it is immense.
There’s no good reason for this. All materials should be (roughly) the same in difficulty to acquire.
It seems like an oversight that there aren’t nodes where you can harvest materials to make cloth scraps (i.e. plant fibers) and leather sections (i.e. animal bodies) like so many other MMOs.
This is exactly what I think is missing in this game. If not nodes, then cloth dropping from humanoids and leather from creatures. It makes no sense to me the way it’s set up here.
I really resent having to take up a character slot with a permanent Lv 50 character just to open bags for that tier cloth & leather. That’s just not right.

I would love to have given feedback, but I don’t PvP or WvW, and I have no idea how to play those game modes or how I would go about testing for them. I am strictly an open world player and would have very much appreciated the opportunity to demo test the new specializations in that context. Can’t say I understand why we weren’t given given the opportunity to test them in a PvE environment, unless they are are PvP only specializations. That would be really sad if that were the case.
I was that anxious to have content that wasn’t HoT.
I pre-purchased even before the first demo weekend. After seeing Crystal Oasis, if it’s any indication what the rest of the zones will be like, I am certainly not sorry I did.
Yeah gotta agree with the architecture of the new map, everything felt utterly by the bumbers, and no location stood out in any way in particular. It’s Silver Wastes with a Pyramid.
[Edit]
That was supposed to say “numbers” but holy hell is it a funny typo.
I find myself in HoT maps (which I only visit when I have to) thinking the same thing- everything looks the same. Just a twisty turny maze of vegetation with slews of veterans at every turn. Crystal Oasis was such a sweet relief from that. I felt like I could breathe, move around, explore, but still must be watchful.
I enjoyed the first weekend and had fun on the mount., doing some events, poking around. This weekend, the second weekend, I have no interest in how these new elite specializations work for WvW or PvP, so I didn’t bother. I did read a lot of posts full of disappointment peppered with a few more content ones, but it all tells me nothing about how how the new specializations will perform in open world play. I don’t understand why there was no opportunity to try them out in the demo zone we had last weekend.
last weekends demo was pve style.
Because it was about showing off the new Crystal Desert map and mounts, both are PvE only content. So it made sense for that demo to focus on PvE only.
This demo however is about Elite Specs, which are not limited to any game mode, so neither should the demo.
I agree. I am sorely disappointed that I won’t get to check the new elite lines since I don’t PvP or WvW and sounds like trying them out on whatever mobs are there or the golems is a bust. Now I have no way to prepare for the expansion, even though I pre-ordered. Doesn’t sit well with me.
Gallant and Balthazar’s are elegant and relatively simple.
Ah yes, the Balthazar GS is another good one. It has always appealed to me a great deal. I wish the Balthazar 1H sword was more like it. Gallant is nice as well.
I am hoping these new maps won’t succumb to the meta event syndrome the HoT maps did. The meta events become the focus and essentially the only thing to do. It’s the same thing over and over and over. I’d love to get back to doing events and event chains. I’d love to see variety. Maybe have one map with a meta event if they must, for whoever may want to do that. I’m just over it.
I agree, I’d like to see more events and event chains. Not so much a meta event though, as that becomes the focus and essentially the only thing to do. I want to see variety. And I don’t want to have to fight a horde of veteran mobs every ten feet while trying to get to and do this variety of things.
It would be nice, but I think Anet is unlikely to do that for a cost vs benefit reason. It would mean modifying every single piece of armor and outfit. And Anet doesn’t have the greatest track record in the armor department.
ESO can do it because it has similarly proportioned humanoid races, whereas GW2’s Asura and Charr would require very extreme sliders. And probably result in even more Charr clipping complaints.
The “cost vs. benefit” argument/excuse by Anet is getting real old.
For instance, they already have male human bodies they could scale and add to the Norn body options, so not all male Norn must look like misshaped orangutans with tiny heads, while their female counterparts all look like supermodels with flawless bodies (even the heavier ones).
I agree with the OP that there should be a wider variety of options, and it would be more desirabe new content than most of the kitten they have added in the past year.
You know, I was thinking this very same thing, standing waiting for Teq last night. Why can’t they just scale male human builds to Norn size? There is no way I will ever play a male Norn with their current appearance. And it makes no sense to me that female Norn are human-ish supermodels while male Norns are so, well, not. They are like two different species.
I’d be nice of them to make challenging group fights in the open world that make use of these things.
Why in the open world?
I just read a comment from a guy in the official feedback thread, complaining about how easy the open world mobs were using his raid setup. Seriously? Are you friggin kidding me? OF COURSE they’re easy when you’re using your raid setup! The more challenging content one plays, the easier it gets. So at some point open world content is going to feel easy, but that’s the way it is supposed to be!
We have raids and fractals and dungeons for challenging group fights – we don’t need them at every corner in the open world.
Amen. All throughout the horrible HoT zone maps, the mobs there were horrible to deal with. They all felt like Veterans to me. One after another, everywhere you turn. I am miserable in those maps. The demo zone gave me room to breathe and the feeling I wasn’t in mortal danger every 3 feet. I was able to relax a bit and even enjoy the environment. That’s just not possible in the HoT maps. HoT is stressful, not fun, like a game should be IMO. Some of the mobs in the demo zone I found challenging. I don’t want them all to be that way.
I am betting I’m more like the average player. Don’t raid and my gear is a mixture of exotic and ascended on a couple of characters and just exotic on the others. I by no means use meta builds, but builds that suit me. I play video games to have fun, not sweat the entire time. I really hope the demo zone was indicative of the new world as far as mob difficulty and density.
My thoughts on the UnID system- it seemed to me that I was getting more Rares than with normal loot. That in itself might make it worth the cost. I do not like that we must get IDs through heart vendors, which reset daily. That goes beyond mere inconvenience.
Re: mount movement… in addition to addressing their getting stuck on pebbles, I agree with some others that perhaps Raptor movement needs to be a bit tighter. When maneuvering, I was put in mind of the off-kilter way that Asuras maneuver. It’s fun on Asuras, but may wear thin on mounts. Perhaps tighter movement and a bit less swaying would help those who are getting motion sickness from riding them.
Can’t say if I’m happy or not until I can actually try them, or at least read others’ take on them. Since I don’t and won’t play PvP or WvW, looks like reading about them is all I’ll get out of the upcoming weekend. Not happy at all about that, that we can’t test them in a PvE setting. That being said, I am so far most looking forward to Deadeye. Love my Thief, and the one thing it’s lacked is far ranged capabilities.
The first thing that struck me was a much more wide open feeling and lower density of mobs. Loved that so much. I don’t agree at all w/ a couple other posters that the mobs should be tougher. Don’t want to play HoT Redux.
Loved the mount and the way it handled. Hated MP, or anything of importance, locked behind timed event/adventure.
The GS skin is the first and only I’ve purchased from the Privateer set so far. Just love it. Complex enough to be interesting, and a good size compared to the many very oversized models in this game. I got the Axe from a wardrobe unlock. I’ve been considering the 1H Sword as well.
Think we’ll ever see actual horses?
PoF might be a good time to introduce horses to the world.
I’d be quite happy to never see a JP or adventure again. Much less with MPs or collection completions locked behind them. I’d be fine with them as completely optional content with some reward for those who enjoy doing them, but do such people really exist?
Why is it bad?
At least it can stack, and that’s handy! It costs 1s 68c to identify each piece and if you don’t you’ll lose out on precursors and other nice exotics that sell for decent amount of gold.
Prove it. Prove that anything but blue/green garbage comes out of them.
I not only received a number of rares (which were for the Elonian weapon collection), I got an exotic that was an upgrade of the Elonian dagger.
As noted in the other thread re: this subject, we are still getting blues and greens on top of the UnID’ed gear, so how this is space-saving enough to warrant the hassle and expense of ID’ing, I just don’t know.
Where the hell are you guys getting the idea that it cuts down on inventory clutter? you’re still getting trash blues and greens and the sigils from greens, even with Unidentified Gear. And the Exotics and Rares are hidden behind that unidentified gear.
In fact, Unidentified Gear being Green makes inventory management more inconvenient than ever – I can no longer “Salvage All Masterwork and Fine items” and be on my way – I have to manually salvage the trash greens to avoid salvaging the Unidentified Gear, and the potential Rares and Exotics it identifies into.
That’s what I had noted as well. My bags were still filling up with blues and greens on top of the UnID’ed gear. I don’t understand the point of that. I feel like, either make all or none UnID’ed. Keep it simple.
I would very much like to see masteries completely divorced from achievements. IMO, they should be two separate systems. Masteries should extend the XP gain once a player hits 80. Players could thus earn them by playing the game the way they want to rather than the way they are being forced to.
Got DCed and now can’t get back in. After loading screen, I get a network error (to check my network). I am east coast US, in nothern Virginia.
For what it’s worth, I would love to be able to dye my back pieces to match their corresponding gliders…
Though now that I think about it, I wonder… What if instead of adding separate dye channels to back pieces, they instead made the back pieces match the colors of the glider? I don’t know if that would be any easier… I’m not a developer after all, but I do wonder about it. While that wouldn’t allow /total/ customization, it would be better then nothing!
When I was dyeing my glider, I was thinking the color of the backpack ought to automatically change to the color of its counterpart on the glider. I mean, that would make perfect sense. I see I’m not the only one to think along this line.
This new backpack/glider combo just begs for the backpack to be dyeable. Otherwise, the backpack looks like a lump of dirty gray metal. I heartily agree that gliders that are dyeable should have their corresponding backpacks dyeable as well. We are paying good money for these things after all.
I’m used to getting leather from skinning creatures and cloth from killing humanoids in other games. Is there a particular reason for this not being available in GW2?
Well, skinning is useless
Why would skinning be useless? It would be a way to get guaranteed leather from a source just like I can get guaranteed metal, wood, and plants from nodes. We should also have guaranteed cloth drops from humanoid mobs.
I never understood why GW2 was created to be so unbalanced in this way.
Exactly. Just like with ore and lumber, you should (IMO) be able to find appropriate tier cloth and leather for the zone you are in. As it is now, you have to level alts to particular levels and halt their progress forever just to have them open bags for the tier cloth/leather you are looking for. This is really bad design decision- again, JMO.
I was thinking it looks like a little blob of metal. Shame it doesn’t have those metal spikes on the upper part that show when the glider is enabled.
I’m used to getting leather from skinning creatures and cloth from killing humanoids in other games. Is there a particular reason for this not being available in GW2?
I was thinking the winter in summer sale would end with a bang, but it’s just sort of fading away. Kinda disappointed by that.
Having race affect dialogue and storyline is fine by me- not so much OP racial skills. I spent time in two games that, via racials, gave races advantages to particular classes, resenting it, feeling forced into “optimal” race-class configurations, feeling at a disadvantage on any character that didn’t.
One thing I dug though- in LOTRO, if you were an Elf, you could not kill environmental creatures. It really upset me when those little creatures got caught in the AoE of other races (as it does in this game). Don’t think that would work in GW2 since some people use environmental creatures towards weapon master achievement, but something like that, that could set the races apart- how they affect the environment.
Besides the male Norn head being too small, I agree about those over-sized feet. They look ridiculous. But perhaps the worst offender of their anatomy lies in the chestal region… To me, male Norns look like caricatures of elderly body builders. They remind me more of dwarves (squat bodies, arms and waists too big, etc.), really, than humans.
Female Norns look like goddesses to me. I dream of one day being able to create an equally god-like male Norn.
I have not gone beyond the HoT maps except for Bloodstone Fen briefly.
1. Not crazy about any of the HoT maps due to ridiculous navigation, but one I hate the absolute most is Tangled Depths.
2. Dry Top- annoying navigation gimmicks.
3. Silverwastes- just ugly, no redeeming features.
4. Black Citadel- more annoying navigation (The Grove is runner-up for racial cities).
5. Brisban Wildlands- not sure I can put my finger on why. Perhaps disjointed, as another poster put it. Just feels like a jumble of mini-zones with no cohesion.
Honorable mention: Dragon’s Stand simply because I would like to be able to explore the map at my leisure, preferably solo, like we can all other maps.
The HoT maps are just pure annoyance to me. The navigation issues along with insanely difficult mobs, it’s just an interest-killer for me.
We could always unlock a “torch” mastery, which lights the area around the character in dark spaces.
In LOTRO, there is a toggle for your character to have a glow around them that lights up the immediate area. I’m sure Anet could think of something. I do miss in-game night time, and there is so much in this game that could be enhanced by more darkness.
I wouldn’t like to see night pitch black, but certainly I would like it to be obvious that it’s night. I never have a sense of night time in this game, and it’s something I really miss. Other games have definite night but don’t make it so dark you can’t see where you’re going. Light sources like torches etc. light up and look beautiful and inviting. It would really enhance the armor and weapons that have light effects.
I only go to the HoT zones when I absolutely have to, and I dread it every time. Solo-unfriendly, unlike the core game, and a navigation travesty. This is not how an expansion should make me feel. It seems like such a waste of zones, they feel so inaccessible to me. Perhaps leave the high difficulty for instances like dungeons, fractals, raids.
Regardless of what’s possible or probable biologically, I agree it would be fantastic to have male Norns be as proportional to human males as female Norns are to human females. It makes sense to me. I’d be among the first to buy more character slots to create towering male Norn models! As they are, I have no interest in them. Bodies too deformed, heads too small for the bodies. Just unappealing.
Every game I’ve played that has a store manages to have everything they sell (considerably more items than Anet) available at all times, excepting seasonal items. Anet needs to bring their store UI into the 21st century.
It’s a nice outfit, in spite of being yet another trenchcoat, in spite of looking like it’s made of patent leather, but the baldness kills it for me. Won’t buy for that reason.
I won’t buy the new Outlaw outfit for that very reason. Blows my mind they didn’t even bother to include a scarf or something to hide the baldness.
I’ve been gravitating to Rata Sum, in part due to it’s proximity to the HoT zones. Also, the convenience of having things so close to one another. And I usually find some cool characters hanging out there.
Where would I actually like a home? Ascalon Settlement. There’s just something about it. The tranquility, the scenery, the flowers, apple trees… I am really drawn to it I wish there were more places like it.
I lucked into an Elder Wood Home Node from a BL chest. When I went to sell it (really needed the gold), instead of hitting Sell, I hit Use. I was horrified that there was no confirmation window to stop me from doing this idiotic thing. I submitted a ticket on the matter, but Support was unable help me, so I am stuck with a very costly node that I seldom think to use.
I have to think #FakeScarcity works against sales as much as it works for them. I have moved on from wanting and waiting for an item to re-appear in the store way more than I have wanting, waiting, & buying. That is substantial lost sales from me.
