I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
I got 25 dragonite from Jormag just a few minutes ago.
I really wonder what the divorce rate is going to look like 20 years from now for all the folks convinced that ANet are liars.
It looks like the different old stat combos have separate lists of choices. Traveler and explorer do not have the same options.
Not terribly pleased about this myself.
While I’m ticked that the Celestial stat combo got nerfed without corresponding replacement (Especially since the removal of MF was to keep people from swapping effectiveness for loot, since celestial evidently wasn’t inferior effectiveness in ANet’s eyes), I think the word ‘worthless’ gets thrown around way too casually.
Its not worthless, its just exceedingly poor without the exact right build , and its undeniable less desirable than it was yesterday.
I think you can randomly get it from salvaging Dire Exotics.
I knew I’d have heaps of dust (that’s what mules are for…). I opened all mine because I wanted the Ori, Ancient Wood, and greens in them.
Weird – I’m getting different lists on quite a few different pieces. My Mad King gear does include Assassin’s as a choice…
I have a wide range of formerly MF gear and I’m wondering why the armor has so few choices (was totally looking forward to transitioning into Assassin’s armor) while some items truly have the full range of options. I just made an Infinite light and it has something like 3 times as many choices. In particular, the NEW Dire stats are on the armor options list, but Assassin is not. Berserker is there and is generally considered a better choice, so why the omission?
I get it Infinite Light has a million times harder to acquire, but it also shows the limited list isn’t a technical issue, its a deliberate curtailing of what we can do to replace the armor that’s been stripped from us.
Please expand the choices for armor.
Thank you for gathering those screenshots
in around 8 hours, the experimentation will begin. You’ll likely hear more soon thereafter.
With the Devs putting it out there they’d like to see all weapons available to all classes eventually, I was mulling over what I’d like to see for necro Pistol/Pistol. The idea is the main hand is a conditionmancer theme, the off-hand has some possibilities for bunkers, and pair up should just smoothly mesh .
The related trait would be something like~
Boneslinger (Spite Master): Your pistol skill cooldowns are reduced by 20% and your pistol critical chance is increased by 3%
If the number over the target has a little red splat behind it, it’s a crit.
Tune in tomorrow, as the great testing begins.
This would be nice. I didn’t want to use my Shattered Dragon wings for a long time because I was like… it’s a back piece… so I can’t use the white item xmute trick to make it account bound and put it on another character… if I give it to one character I’m stuck. Ended up making it an SPvP item just so I’d never have to choose.
I ended up putting my shattered wings skin on my Sclerite backpack after upgrading that to Ascended – its account bound rather than soulbound so I can move the wings around (amongst my 80s anyway) if I like.
It has to be at least 80 if that’s what they’re building the Tecquatl fight around.
More likely its 100.
No.
That scenario IS ok. They take the risks, and we can vote with our feet and our wallets on every given day.
SW:TOR talked ENORMOUS smack against the free to play model, then turned around and implemented a really stupid version of it a year later – their privilege, but I don’t pay a subscription OR play for free there any more.
They showed ascended weapons as having a sigil slot and 1 or 2 infusions slots (2 on 2H weapons).
looking at that picture, that’s a 5% increase in weapon damage (affects some builds but not all) and a 5% increase in contribution to stats from that slot (not really very high at all, under 1% overall stat bump).
Its exactly the sort of gain I’m used to in pursuing BiS gear in a game like LotRO. Its a couple of percent which is nice in pressure situations but a minor concern in most play. Good enough to chase after if you have nothing else you’d rather be doing, with is kind of the point.
My understanding is they split the source of the skin and the item currently providing the stats.
I don’t see it reaching back through time to double check all the versions its ever been – just the current skin and stats.
If MF is being removed because its creating a situation when you’re sacrificing effectiveness for loot (and possibly handicapping your team for personal gain)…
…and ANet is satisfied that Celestial gear is effective enough even without the MF…
Then people wearing it aren’t sacrificing effectiveness for MF and ANet can just LEAVE IT ALONE.
Celestial Gear: No changes required.
With the number of essences required to advance increasing with each % you already have… I think folks are GROSSLY underestimating how much effort it’s going to take to reach 300%
They probably don’t drop off over every savage and we could be looking at tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of essences to cap out.

Did you folks not watch the video?
It plainly showed that the 2H sword she made has 2 infusion slots.
Rather than saying this is something in the manifesto that isn’t being upheld, is there ANYTHING in the manifesto that actually manifested in game?
I found it to be mostly an exercise in talking smack to other developers right before they fell on their faces when dealing with the same challenges that every MMO faces.
Or maybe I’m just hung up on the sheer hubris of “I swung my sword, I swung my sword again…” when held up against some of the spam-one-button gameplay a number of GW2 classes devolved into.
Some great goals in there – I hope one day the game hits some of them.
Um, my Sclerite Karka Shell back piece is ascended and didn’t come out of the fractals.
My guess it’s going to be 5-10 per drop, meaning that to get the daily amount you will have to do 10-20 activities, which is not that bad.
Could be totally wrong, of course.
Your optimism is… remarkable.
I still think people are looking at the crafting and the time gates and totally missing how much effort the harvesting could be. That the video has the Dev breezily saying “oh, I gave myself all the mats” kinda points to it being something they didn’t want to dwell on .
In SWToR there were some Convention Exclusives, but they gave the same thing away at each convention. Its likely Mr. Sparkles will show up at every show ANet goes to for the next few years. Not a solution, but something to watch for if you are a collector and have nan opportunity to go (or a looking for more to pop up on Ebay afterwards).
Got a quote/link for that? I’d love to read the original verbiage.
Actually I was just in there about 5 hours ago on Fort Aspenwood and we were farming the Destroyers like they were going out of style.
You can support any of the cities while farming destroyers if that’s the achievements you’re after in there.
The mithrilium takes ectos. Perhaps that’s what they meant.
I have +60% might duration from runes (3 pairs that offer +20% on the second piece of the set) and another 10% boon duration from my traits .
(and staff #3 is hilarious with a 17 second might duration)
That’s why I carried the mini-harpy warrior on that character – to constantly remind me what I was after.
And believe me, I’ve jumped up and down on the pulpy corpses of more than a few harpies wishing I could pry it from their cold, dead, mangled talons.
(actually, I’m the one who added the note that harpy warriors carry that weapon to its wiki entry )
Why doesn’t the big huge heavy dragon just start rolling around on the ground, thereby crushing anything and everything around it that hasn’t emulated brave, brave Sir Robin and bravely run away?
I’ve been attacked by 80 ants, who had outstanding teamwork, impressive coordination, and a true do-or-die commitment to the assault.
It didn’t end well for the ants.
But not enough to maintain 5 stacks of might with empowering Might .
Berserker hasn’t been dethroned, its just opening up some other builds to be competitive.
okay… but my problem with it is that you’re losing quite a bit of power for just a higher critical chance, which with full berserkers, nourishment’s , and fury you already can hit around the 80-90% range…. so why take assassin’s?
To hit 80% crit chance with your nourishment slot doing something else.
I got my character up to 72% crit without fury or food. With fury it was virtually auto crit and I could use any food I wanted.
The cooldown is the cooldown no matter what your crit chance is – the crit chance is about how fast you get the next proc applied after that minimum time has elapsed. That’s why crit proc builds favor fast, multi-hit attacks (like guardian 1H sword #3). You don’t need spikes being multiplied by a crit, you need a million little ticks that get that next proc a blink of an eye after you come off cooldown. Crit procs trigger no matter how small that attack is.
If I only had one crit proc I wouldn’t swap an existing finished set of Berserker for Assassin, but with a trait that procs on crit (Empowering Might), a sigil that procs on crit (Sigil of generosity), and a crit-proc food running all on separate ICDs, yeah, I can’t wait to swap out some of my Rampager gear for Assassin .
I think that if you have various proc-on-crit effects Assassin will outstrip Berserker. For straight damage without a build that maximizes crit-procs, Berserker remains better.
Thing is up until now the only Precision primary choice for armor has been Rampager – and Precision Primary, condition damage secondary is pretty much junk due to opposing tensions. Having a Precision Primary that doesn’t handicap itself on the secondaries is going to open up some whole new worlds.
Closer to 325 g ATM.
I giggled a little .
Heh. My ranger is getting tons of play right now – I find the class leaves some of the more popular choices IN THE DUST when it comes to tagging things and collecting loot in a zerg. Different tools for different tasks.
I don’t find them boring or bad in PvE, WvW, or Zergs. But like any DPS build, you have to actually work at it to perform up to it’s actual potential.
Yeah… and after you figure in all the runes and sigils you lost from using a crappy bottom tier salvage kit, you’re running at a huge negative.
Didn’t you get the memo – the only thing that matters is making all the legendaries the same in the eyes of the footfall fetishists.
I was in no hurry to open them. We’ll see, indeed!
The dragon events are supposed to be large-scale fights, they won’t (and shouldn’t) scale down to small groups.
What Dragon Events are supposed to be is FUN. They have pretty much the entire Malchior’s Leap zone as a giant steaming testament to the massively UNFUN nature of designing content that has a minimum population to function when the population moves on.
So basically making it a ground for people to abuse others because they turn up and increase the difficulty of the event?
Id rather risk the danger of the occasional bored griefer than have the game itself designed to grief me because of content that works while its the new shiny, but is unplayable a month later. I recommend coming down to the Crown Pavilion and trying to do much of anything down on the ground floor to get a working sense of EPIC FAIL when it comes to low-end scaling.
This will be great… as long as it scales down cleanly, to offer a reasonable challenge to the five or so people that happen to show up once the novelty has worn off.
Honestly the scaling in for most open world events is pretty terrible – events that range from deathtraps to small groups up to snoozefests to full zergs is failing to hit the mark not just at both ends off the spectrum but over most of the range of possible player-turn-outs.
Actually, I just finished it yesterday.
Its a pain in the butt, and there are definitely bugs, and likely more bugs than they are aware of, but it’s not universally blocked.
People sell their time in the form of mystic coins for pretty much next to nothing. I expect these will taper off pretty seriously after the first few weeks- but during those weeks, you can bet buying out my processing time will cost you a fortune .
I highly doubt you get as many as 1 per chest. I’d expect it to be random, with 0 being a possible result. Rather like salvaging ectos.
Fortunately I have about 400 champ bags tucked in my bank… I’ll think I’ll be opening them AFTER the next update .
Thanks for listing these out longhand. It’s definitely helping me plan my strategy for acquisition .
If only the achievements with time limits had timers that told you to the exact second when the window of opportunity closes…
