I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Let me think… since I built an Infinite light for my main I have a pretty dang good idea what it takes to gather 250 charged lodestones… the people interested in making Juggernaut are feeling oppressed that they have to gather 250 of a rare item that costs less than half as much as a charged lodestone and drops from bags and jump puzzles.
Try farming Air Elementals in Orr for 2-3 months. I think you’ll find farming the appropriate bags for silver doubloons WAY more rewarding…
My Lvl 80 norn Yngvildr Ahlstrom
The new hair is working for you .
Ivory Phoenix, Condition-mancer and occasional dungeon-healer
Cultural armor, tier 1, just doesn’t get enough love .
I’ve finally gotten my Norn Warrior to where I’m happy with her. Doesn’t show off the tats, but it does have some nice cultural flourishes .
So, the upshot of all this is the next revision of the LFG Tool should allow the lister to SET and LOCK the dungeon path that will be available and to set a minimum level so that if the viewer is below that level, they CANNOT SEE the listing to erroneously respond to it.
I’d like to think that’s well within the skills of ANets code-monkeys.
Got another one .
“Bridge the gap” was referring to having goals you could accomplish in between full Exotic (most of my character have that as they turn 80 now…) and getting a Legendary weapon.
If I have a problem with Ascended tier as a gap-filler, its that they take the many of the same mats as the legendary, meaning building an ascended item pushes back my legendary progress, not fill time as I move forward.
There is absolutely no reason to think ascended gear is going to become unbound. The WHOLE POINT of the tier is to give people long term statistical advancement goals that are less long term than Legendaries.
lol, clipping issues/etc. isn’t why MOST people aren’t playing a Charr engineer.
So you managed to ask everyone who plays the game and is not playing a charr character how they feel on the subject?
Impressive.
No, I’m willing to back him that something you can’t even see until AFTER you’ve made the character is not one of the big reasons for their low representation .
Guys, let’s keep in mind that these might not be the final versions of the armor sets, and that the textures could be subject to change until their official release. The same can be said with how they interact with dye colors. Until then, it’s best not to judge the sets for what we currently see.
Comedy gold.
“Well, it might still change”
Its been added to the live database. The window for feedback and correction has long since closed.
Uh, how do you know the whole story of scarlett and know it sucks when you don’t yet know the story.
That is a little unfair.
No, its not, because one of the fundamentals of writing is start strong, not flail around like a dying goat and hope people linger long enough for you to spit out your punchline.
Incorrect. ANET could win by simply making the new hairstyles free for everyone.
You just can’t win when you become a money grubbing corporation.
I really hope you come back to tell us about the next time you do a bunch of creative work and give it away for free. And then explain how you’ve got this great sustainable model where you keep getting to give your work away for free.
People treat artists like poop. Exhibit A.
I sold eleven of them this week because the price is finally high enough for me to feel like releasing mine into the wild.
I have 4 alts sitting at chests, trickling more in. But don’t expect me to be working to lower the price just because you can’t be bothered to do the same.
I can understand the confusion and/or frustration surrounding that so…
..So why did you do it? You had to have seen this reaction coming from literally 6 months away. Its not exactly high art to not write characters that kitten your readers off because of your own spotty/slipshod presentation.
And now I’ve seen the new armor skins.
They are on the whole, in my personal opinion, ugly. I don’t see nearly enough effort being put into using the 4 color regions (the latest gemstore sets did that so much better, makes you wonder, huh?)
Nothing in the heavy armor represented a desirable change over what I have access to already.
I can see using the medium boots. The medium pants are interesting but because of their bloody OBSSESSION with having the chest item cover the legs no cares what medium leg skins look like.
The Light gloves were alright and the legs were an alternative to the vigil light legs in the same theme.
ANET – YOU ARE ON A ONE-YEAR MORATORIUM FOR MEDIUM ARMOR CHEST SKINS THAT EXTEND BELOW THE BELT. JUST KITTEN STOP. REALLY, JUST STOP.
Possibly because on this planet, when people do work they expect compensation.
The hair style kits are comparatively cheap. If you like the new do’s show your appreciation for a service being rendered.
I wasn’t suggesting off-checking the chest piece renders you topless – I meant a toggle that turns most medium chest pieces into a simple coat rather than a down-to-your-fricken-ankles long-coat.
Elementalist: MH pistol
Engineer: Hammer
Guardian: OH Sword
Mesmer: MH pistol
Necromancer: MH pistol
Ranger: Rifle
Thief: OH Mace (sap! )
Warrior: Land Spear
So, what you are saying is that if you don’t have the friends or are older and less reflexive or have some other reason for not wanting to do dungeons/fractals, you are kitten-out-of-luck.
Or just do events.
Seriously, what are people so incredibly desparate to spend it on?
I dumped the entirety of my account’s half million karma into orrian boxes on the last day the liquid karma could benefit from buffs. Zero’d my balance. I’m back up to 200,000 from events and the trickle from dailies. Its not that hard if you just play the game instead of trying to time/efficiency optimize EVERYTHING to the point were any progress less than the fastest possible progress is ignored and people start throwing around the word “impossible” to describe something that’s actually inevitable.
You can actually hear the ‘whoosh’ as money leaves my wallet.
A couple of these are absolutely great!
This transmute -> soulbound -> trans splitter -> soulbound -> transmute -> account bound is making mass profits for anet. Gotta say it was smart, very sneaky, but when will it all fall apart and people will realize what a ripoff it is?
Uh… completely irrelevant to harvesting tools…
Quite the opposite: people suspect it even when you are wearing pants.
Point of order – the price has risen so that the difficulty is about the same. Before only CoFp1 masochists could generate top level adventuring income and their willingness to pay for precursors determined their true value.
Now everybody can make money like that with the 24/7 champion train of your choice – but again the precursor true value is still determined by the TOP earners, not the people with their basket full of bushels of low hanging fruit.
That said, of course the price will drop …eventually. The scavenger hunt alternative and the second wave of Legendary skins are going to both act to gut the current equilibrium.
I have 2 precursors in my bank, one bought fairly cheap (about 20% of what they go for now) and one that dropped. I am SERIOUSLY considering selling them off and just waiting for the second wave, and none of the current legendary skins are a good thematic fit for the characters that use those weapons.
You will never be privy to the reasoning behind their decisions: anyone who does know is contractually obligated not to share that knowledge.
At least Anet is giving something to there biggest fans when they go to these events.
Agreed to that but not everyone can afford or make time to go to events like these and that means people at home are not any less of a big fan.
Um, I’m going with “spends hundreds of dollars on airfare and hotel just to see a sales pitch and get some swag” qualifies you for being a bigger fan almost by definition.
There needs to be a dang check box on the chest piece like the ones on helmet/shoulders/gloves that lets you TURN OFF every scrap of the chest item that falls below the waist.
The question is will the new armor skins be cool?
Crafting it is ALWAYS cheaper (unless there’s just been a weird fluctuation in materials prices and the finished weapons prices haven’t caught up yet).
The person selling the finished weapon is looking to make back his own material prices, the TP fees, and get some return on his time. Make it yourself and there are no TP fees and you’re paying yourself for the time.
180 exotics down the toilet and no Zap
So only another 500 or so to go before anyone looks surprised. Another 1,000 or so after that before even the kindest souls look concerned.
(edited by Nike.2631)
There are ways to make them in the forge. There are ways to extract them from bags. There are ways to use alts to trickle them in steadily over time. You can either do these things yourself or pay a premium for other people to do them for you – but those are the ONLY WAYS THESE ITEMS EVER COME INTO EXISTENCE.
If you are unwilling to do the work yourself, you cannot fault other people for wanting a good price for the time they spend doing stuff you won’t.
Then its going to ensue. Because that’s all but a given for how further progression is going to work. The only difference is you might have to do so questing IN ADDITION TO the skill point costs to open up the new options.
Right now a character is mostly a choice of class, setting 2-6 weapons (depending on class and 1h/2h choices), 3 utility skills, an elite skill, assigning 70 trait points, and selecting traits. A little wiggle room on runes/sigils as some of them alter gameplay meaningfully beyond the balance of stats/numbers.
Every one of those choices can have more options added without even glancing at level cap or new gear tier. We’ve seen a number of new stat combinations on gear added without an expansion. No reason to think they can’t continue to expand the array of options AND put some serious barriers to entry on the new choices that will keep people logging in and playing/paying.
Irony is we already got more then Mini games and jumping puzzles but Everyone seems to forget the 100+ Guild missions, 2 Dungeons, 50+ new Dynamic Events, 3 PvP maps, 3 news mini dungeons, a new meta event, a new zone and the changes to WvW. Seems for some people what counts is what they dont like and everything else they like well that’s like it never existed.
It’s not that I’ve forgotten, or am unaware… It’s that I DON’T CARE.
I’m not in a big guild and I’m not a sPvP player. The 2 new dungeons are GONE, so they don’t do much for my entertainment choices today, tomorrow, or next week.
And Southsun as a ‘new zone’ is about the most egregious example I’ve ever seen of content failing to scale to the number of players present. Its like the worst day in Orr (and there were some BAD ones) multiplied by about a factor of six.
I’m enjoying the game because of a certain enjoyment in the long-term pursuit of cosmetic goals and a basic appreciation for the class system/core combat gameplay, but I can’t say the deluge of 2 week play-hard-or-miss-it events is really that satisfying.
They’ve basically said they were going to add more utility skills…
Imagine a 4th tier that requires you have all of the 1, 3 and 6 point class skills and they cost about 80 skill points each. That could take a while to fill in even with a pile of skill point scrolls from champ farming. How about a 3rd tier of Elite skill choices at 100 skill points each?
Or having to cough up 200 skill points to enable the use of a new weapon type. That would DEFINITEY create some horizontal progression that’s far from quick.
Or 50 point a whack to unlock new traits beyond the I to XII we have now.
There’s still quite a bit of horizontal progression that can be added inside the current cap.
More hair styles. Its really time to introduce more cosmetic options beyond yet another round of weapon skins.
I take it you guys have never seen a traditional Chinese gold ingot. (seriously, just Google “Chinese gold ingot”)
You need more kung f.u movies in your diet .
Keep in mind the kits specifically mention chance of returning rarer (higher tier) materials) in their descriptions.
we perfectly know prices are NOT real.
Uh, when they sell an average of 10 times per day to 10 different buyers, yeah, the prices are real.
And honestly it wouldn’t matter if they were FREE – all that would do is free up that coin to buy the 2,000 T6 mat you need, or the lodestones, or whatever, and then those prices would explode. The money other people have which is allowing them to buy the precursors when you can’t doesn’t just go away because the precursor got cheaper…
I have to admit – if I could swap the two molten pickaxes I have on my necros on to new characters (aka all molten pick axes are returned to inventory and reset to account bound/soulbound on use) I’d buy two of the bone picks in a heartbeat.
$10 for style and utility? Yes, please.
$10 just to swap to a different style when I already have the utility? Pass.
Why does the phrase " this is the only legendary X in the game" come up at all? Outside of the GS, that’s true of ALL weapons. Its NOT a compelling argument. People have one choice for each weapon type.
If you think Bolt looks fiercely stupid (like I do) then its not a matter of a little nip and tuck and adding a trail of glowing poop, there is categorically no Legendary 1H sword worth pursuing. If you own a FSP already, at least it came close enough to be worth making some effort.
Maybe they’ll do another round of tune ups for the 1% who have already found a Legendary they’re willing to make, but I sincerely hope its not until after they’ve made a whole second set of Legendary weapons so some us who can’t find anything worth pursuing get a crack at the shiny.
My shark is named “Great White Omnom”
Part of being a superior train conductor is ADAPTING to the changing landscape quickly and achieving efficiency on the playing field that IS, rather than some theoretical vacuum where all champions are perfectly spherical and of uniform density and other players don’t exist.
I’d be bored out of my mind running the show if I didn’t have a few people mugging the bandit or chopping down the oak before the zerg arrives.
This process has made a good working knowledge of high end harvest nodes more valuable than ever before .
The existence of laurels is pretty much proof that ANet is unsatisfied with the effectiveness of Mystic Coins as a time gate.
Do you need to be level 80 to get the shards from the JP chests?
Yes.
Why would they? The prices may creep back up, but the champion trains produce a pretty substantial number of bags, the bags have cores & lodes, the excess mats enter the market.
Yes, because all that critical damage is useless with the critical chance that this set provides.
You and I, we use the word ‘useless’ differently, I guess.
I find chopping down trees and mining works pretty much the same at all levels – 80s are certainly not penalized and are even slightly advantaged.
They have a huge edge when it comes to making gold to buy the mats to produce them yourself for a fraction of what people who already did that exact same work for you are charging on the TP.
I roll 30/20/10/10/0.
I find the skirmish line annoying (I don’t swap weapons much so the 5 and 15 are wasted) but you have to do it for the -20% cooldowns.
Can’t do anything at 80 except make them yourself at the forge…
