I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I have no doubt I’ll succeed. Its their stated policy to allow returns of all duplicate tools (that why I’ll only return 8 out of 9- you have to keep at least one original item). Its just a pain in the butt I had been hoping to avoid.
If you have 5 you’ll be able to return 4 of them.
Except heal rapidly when you get there.
deja vu.
Its the same kittening thread every time. Verbatim. Word for bloody word.

With gear staying bound, I’d say 1500 is a good trade for sidestepping the leveling process.
With the swapping your whole inventory to account bound 5000 is probably too low.
At the end of the day we’re far more likely to see them introducing some comparatively simple way of buying leveling scrolls (already mentioned as coming for sPvP rewards) and the cost of a new slot + leveling up will resolve itself shortly after that. It won’t be speculation, it’ll be immanently doable.
Honestly, if you’re willing to buy gems for the end result, a new slot and buying enough gold to level yourself to 70+ through crafting isn’t that much.
Really, the most tedious part is now I have to go return 8 out of my 9 unlimited picks for gems and then buy back the new ones.
Maybe the vendor in LA can just trade them without me having to bug Support? There’s already a page for swapping soulbound ones for account bound versions…
I’ve yet to see a scoring tabulation that properly awards me a percentage of the crit damage done by others when I am the one maintaining party-wide perma Fury.
While I have used trackers/parsers to tune up damage rotations and improve my play – competing primarily against myself in controlled environments, as a way of measuring group contribution they tend to be worse than barbaric.
That new Elite skill ‘Ham-Fisted’ is totally OP.
But Axe skill #3, ‘Pork-Choppah’ needs some work. The animation goes crazy on my Asura.
Finally came up with something I liked using the gemstore heavy flame armor.
Considering how much power they grant for about a silver each… don’t hold you breath.
You can heal them BTW. Traits like Battle Presence make them last much longer .
I tried to put the dragon together in one image
:
I think this could be Primordus.
Looks really fiery like a mixture of a dragon and a pheonix.Mordremoth!
Tequatl!
The vista at the SW Keep (green) in Eternal Battlegrounds.
Hands down. No contest.
Hate that thing.
Now if only we were allowed to have some. Alas, real world religious sensibilities intruding on my virtual fun.
Because her Ceara personality is reasserting itself/narating, I imagine.
Apparently there were no levels in the alpha and it freaked out testers so much that they put them back in. People just can’t handle change I guess.
If thats tthe case than why is EQN so popular for getting rid of levels??
Because its easy to love an idea when you’re not actually experiencing the consequences?
Ah to exist in the magical land of potential, where a game can do no wrong and doesn’t have to pay its bills yet…
Because the 1% with Legendary Weapons need to also have the appropriate critter-type killing sigil for every single dungeon they deign to set foot in?
Pass.
“Warning: if you change to a profession in a different armor weight class, you’re going to be sitting on a heap of useless gear (until you change professions again).”
The pick gives you extra sprockets, which do not make you stronger in any way…
Wrong. It gives me gear options – fairly advantageous gear options at that – without bowing before the almighty Trading Post.
I just bought 3,000 sprockets to build a suit of armor. The tool could make a significant difference in how many I have to buy to gear my next character or advance to Asceneded gear on that one. I’ll get some from my personal node, but the rest is cutting into coin that could have been going to other things. Buying flame rams maybe, or making sure I’m stocked up on pies.
As to the “win” part in pay-to-win, I’m finding Zealot’s/Keeper’s armor to be much better for my build than Berserker (doubly so when crit chance becomes ferocity).
The difference between having a tool that generates sprockets and one that doesn’t has direct in-combat gameplay consequences for me.
As long as its about twice as expensive as buying another character slot, sure, why not?
But really, they’d rather you just ran up another character to 80 in the class you’re considering playing.
I am definitely going to expose the impact between previous CDI and evolution in the live game when I get time (More observant community CDI members will already see evolution).
We guess. We infer. But we also know we might just be making up connections where they don’t exist. The onus is on ArenaNet to let the players know they have collectively done good
Like you point out Nike, there have been some pretty obvious ones already, but I agree it would be exciting to call out changes in relation to previous CDI proposal/summaries.
I hope this get the priority it deserves. beyond the simple public relations GOLD in showing how responsive ArenaNet is to its players, I think a lot of CDI contributors need to see direct acknowledgement of the process working if they are going to continue to contribute their time. We aren’t in the office, seeing things happen every day.
A little blast from the past I think is pertinent :
I think i can do better to explain. Honestly your response is excellent, but i need to remember that i have a lot more info than others and that i should provide more context when i make a high level point. I will do better to stay cognoscente of this.
So when the evolution thread starts in earnest…
Origins of Madness contains a number of evolutions that were heavily impacted by previous CDIs.
Hopefully future releases will have that kind of recap of player contributions worked right into the Preview page or a regular, dedicated essay that is part of the lead up to each episode’s launch.
We’ve seen you get the word out through interviews, but there’s opportunities to be had right here on the gW2 website where you know CDI posters hang out .
I have 8 molten picks. Good to know being an early adopter will be punished in full.
I would have to agree it would be nice to see from a High Level View what ANet deemed as valuable take-aways from previous CDI’s.
Unfortunately, in all good conscience, they can’t.
They’re working in a competitive business, and they cannot be distilling hundreds of hours and thousands of posts down into bullet lists of the best, most actionable items for the competition to skim off with no more effort than browsing the forums’ Dev tracker. Amongst several other reasons, that’s probably why they’re looking to move the combined proposal writing into player hands.
There are a lot of people taking a ton of time putting forth herculean efforts to favorably contribute to this process with little feedback on the resulting outcome of their suggestions.
As annoying as it sounds, the feedback has to come essentially no earlier than the preview the patch were the idea goes live.
That extra delay is one reason why I really hope that at that phase they are extremely diligent about drawing a line back to the CDI thread and even specific posts that inspired them. With the time between suggestion and delivery being so long and so carefully hidden, for there to be any sense of payoff they are going to have to work extra hard to acknowledge those contributions or all of our commitment is going quite rightly to dry up.
I was pretty excited to see Scarlet’s Hideout in this update and for her to not be in it. On the other hand I didn’t get to burn the place down and do racial dances in the ashes…
Should I count this as a personal success or just a bit of convergent evolution?
Without their commentary, I have no way of knowing if that CDI post had a contributory impact.
Explain this to me – what are the pets supposedly doing that makes the warden II unbeatable?
I’ve nuked Warden II out of existence on my ranger and I wasn’t doing any fancy pet management. I would assume if the warden locked onto a pet it would quickly grind it to death and then we’d be back to players kiting it into place. Is it just the pets are running over mines or something? I run a devourer in that phase, so maybe my ranged pet AI just stays the hell out of the way inherently?
If there is a type of pet that doesn’t cause this problem, maybe we can just encourage folks to run one of those during the event…
P.S. Because several people brought up the idea of buffing the other platforms when one succeeds, I thought I ought to let you all know that this has always been the case. When one platform’s power regulator is destroyed the players on the platforms adjacent get Electrify Aura which gives 60 seconds of protection, swiftness, regeneration, fury, might, vigor and retaliation.
Out of curiosity, if I’m on platform 5, and platform 4 finished first and hands me (and platform 3) the buff, when platform 5 finishes up is our buff wasted (4 being done already) or does it wrap around and help those folks still struggling over on platform 1?
too true this was a giant insult to investors and first time would be dye kit purchasers alike
Because god forbid investors ever make poor choices.
Its not gambling if you can’t lose.
Oh noes! 1s64c (tops) and a trip to the nearest waypoint for ignoring the GIANT WARNING SIGNS on the corner of your screen for 20-25 minutes.
Of interesting note, can one ED corrupt another ED minions and turn them into their own minions?
Yes, see Subject Alpha. So, Sylvari are not dragon minions.
Sylvai are not yet proven to be Dragon Minions. Not the same thing at all .
No Elder Dragon spawns minions that have free will. That defeats the purpose of spawning minions.
The Sons of Svanir have a few words to add on this subject.
Dragon minions however, cannot be influenced. Once you become a dragon minion, you are completely and utterly dedicated to the Elder Dragon you are serving.
Glint disagrees, spectacularly.
And I do believe we’ve seen a few Risen resist Zaitan at opportune times.
And now it goes underground.
((cue hip edgey street tunes here))
I have about 150 pieces of commissioned art, mostly of my MMO characters. While I get 5-12 pieces each year via face-to-face meetings at the SDCC, I also do a fair amount of business over the web. Send me a private message if you’d like some suggestions for artists and price ranges. Most deals go through Paypal.
Seriously, if a lowlie newbie managed to take out a Champion by themselves in the seconds before the train pulls into the station I’d be cheering them and maybe mailing them a gold or something in the hopes that such a stud eventually finds their way into WvW for my server.
The loop oscillates. Being a master champ-slayer is far more about timing and logistics than it is about spamming button 1 like a zombie. Good train conductors don’t gripe, they move on to the next easy kill and keep their train focused and on track.
I’ve been in frost gorge when a guild pulls into t take care of their rush for the week. Good conductors recognize the signs, get on chat to check with the guild, and just route business around the event.
Its crap players that get abusive. Good ones share the road.
I tend to drop traps and AoEs on such people, unfortunately they don’t role-play burning to a crisp in the righteous flames as compellingly as I would have hoped .
Sorry, yes I was a bit unclear. You guild bank already runs a little slower than your personal bank because its trying to avoid mishaps where two people try to pull out the same item at nearly the same instant. You can’t manipulate partial stacks inside the shared space as much to avoid items being lost/destroyed as to prevent duplicating items. When two people try to add 50 items to an exiting stack of 200 items at the same time in an otherwise full bank where does the second set of 50 items go…? Straight to Support’s complaints to-do list .
There may be more elegant solutions, but the one they settled on is one of the simplest – the ONLY transactions allowed are move entire stack in or pull entire stack out. The resulting bookkeeping is a lot simpler than safeguarding against multi-user corner-cases both accidental and deliberate.
The low level events give less karma – you’d probably do well on the Penitent/Shelter cycle if there was anyone else out there.
I would think the biggest issue would be realizing that ANet will not enforce bargains.
I’d personally make a really clear and easy-to-spot record in the chat logs around the time of purchase/currency transfer that it’s for artistic services rendered so that if you get randomly scooped up on suspicions of buying/selling gold you at least have a bit of a paper trail when you plead your case to Support.
Fortunately you get karma from every DE in every zone.
It IS a big deal and that’s why its not going not happen. Mixing numbers inside the shared space is a recipe for disaster with people doing all kinds of multi-player pushes and pulls that result in extra items being created or Support wrestling with tickets over items being destroyed.
Maybe the dragon on the ceiling is to tell us she had more to do with Tequatl than we realized. The head is pretty-tequatl-esque, and the bones hanging out everywhere fits the appearance of undead dragons better than any of the other champions we’ve seen…
a well played ranger is godmode, sadly most people just dont care enough to play properly and play as they want.
Not in this scenario they’re not. And that said as someone who brings a ranger to the puppet-party.
^ This. A ranger that knows how to play his/her toon well and sets the pet to passive can be just as effective as any other class.
Or as effective as any other class if it has a 25-30% DPS handicap being applied to it.
They aren’t inherently terrible – excellent play can offset the class mechanic being nothing but a dead weight, but its really about time ANet made some improvements/changes to Rangers that allowed them to dispel the cloud they labor under.
(edited by Nike.2631)
Cowls aren’t something that make even the remotest amount of sense for a class that is all about being aware of their surroundings and responding to any given situation with precision and accuracy – they block a ridiculous amount of your vision.
They tend to make up the difference by being very helpful when staying for hours, days, or weeks out in this little thing we call ‘nature’ .
They didn’t evolve as a fashion statement, they’re the product of practical necessities.
Levels are there to space out elements in the learning process. Different aspects of the complete Level 80 experience are introduced over time. You get used to having Utility skills before you get your Elite skill. You have time to practice with and experiment with adept level traits before you gain access to master traits, etc.
Why would there be? The ones for doing fractals (infused) come from doing fractals. The crafted ones are there to support other parts of the game.
I think you’re being punished for being a crappy teacher.
Edit – Just did the one at 7pm EST in an overflow server and my god.
Before the match started, I explained everything in simple detail, did what I could… and in the end.
A Perfect Run.
No fails in any lane… Lane 5 severed the 5th chain for a mission complete.
Was amazing, everyone was cheering and it felt good. When people listen, you can succeed!
Thank you for proving my point . And its not just ‘when people listen’, it’s ‘when a good teach inspires them to listen’. Or ‘when a good teacher makes sure the students comprehend’.
You can tell players the trick to defeating a boss all you want. It falls on deaf ears. You’ll have more success explaining it to a brick wall. Bad players are bad and will always be bad regardless of the advice people give them.
And thank you for perfectly demonstrating what a bad teacher looks like.
There’s three million people who bought this game, and somehow our most elite players know the exact composition of the 110 they’re playing with this time, next time, and on all possible occasions because they’re just too good to even try. Better to decide in advance ‘oh, it won’t help!’
I’m not saying teaching is an easy activity or a common skill. I’m just saying it’s the skill being tested by the event, far more than any individual’s ability to dodge or kite in circles. If you want to improve your odds of succeeding, that’s the skill you need to polish.
Norn Cultural Armor for Humans confirmed… now with pics!
Very nicely done.
ROUSED TO RAGE
All Champions have a new ability called Roused to Rage – for each unique player character that attacks them they gain 1 stack of this buff for 2 minutes, which provides a small amount of Power and Condition Damage and a moderate amount of Toughness. The buff may stack to 25 and dissipates while not in combat. Player controlled pets and minions to not contribute to RtR stacking.
(the two minute limit is so griefers who put one shot into the champ and then move on don’t leave a permanent stack.)
Champ farming just needs to scale faithfully to the number of number of players present. Make the fights more of a struggle when the kill is going to produce 28 champ lootbags instead of 3…
Weird, because I’ve gotten 4-5 out of each of the lesser chests on every occasion, and 15 dragonite ore out of the Scarlett chests each time I’ve opened one.
I don’t believe that anything that has impact on the personal story line of any race will be affected. I read in one interview way back during the Queen’s Jubilee that they entertained killing Queen Jenna, but she was involved in the personal story line so they couldn’t. (Don’t ask me where or who. I don’t remember.)
I can see non-story events and areas destroyed. Maybe the MAW or Fire Elemental or areas of cities that do not impact personal characters or the like.
That’s the sucky thing, Anet painted itself into a corner there. So we can’t see them really taking liberty doing things because of these limitations.
Fortunately, its not that hard to write around them and still give the story some meaning.
I think you’re being punished for being a crappy teacher.
No one shows up with the intent to fail. But they may lack the knowledge needed to win. If you’re so certain that you’ve mastered every nuance of the fight, then you need to master one more: sharing that knowledge.
please add these new circles (and their white equivalents) to player skills. you want GW2 combat to be clearer, that’s the first step.
Go play Wildstar if you want that. I for one desperately hope that Anet doesn’t sink so low as to literally steal another MMO’s combat system, and shoe horn it in to GW2.
Sink so low? You have no idea how incestuous the entire industry is.
Good ideas propagate. That’s actually one of the strengths of the industry.
I think that when people put a ‘_’ on the page other people see a face.
You could read all kinds of things into that, but it doesn’t mean any of those things are actually there.
You’re obviously on a hot streak. You should head to Las Vegas right now.
With another 108 pages of posts in the character progression thread(s), I’d say we have quite a bit of new data to point at as we go over how to get more out of the process. Hopefully we are also coming up on some tangible examples of “closing the loop” where they can tell us about CDI threads & even specific posts that have had visible impact on the live servers.
