You probably can obtain it on any characters but I’m fairly certain you have to open the box on your thief.
I’m 10/14 now. I completed Verdant brick and got the Thief’s cache, and I finished Stealth gliding. Still need exalted gathering and Nuhoch stealth detection.
Anyone knows anything about the Daredevil’s Inscription and the Machiend Staff ?
Honestly, its not about realism. Shortbow was 1200 range during Alpha, and it made Infiltrator arrow way too good.
Can someone tell me how they nerfed it? Or direct me to the changes, please?

Stick a Herald next to a reaper, and he’s 100% of the time in shroud, the bar was never going down. :o
You don’t balance the game around the top 1% of players in cash money situations.
You balance the game around the best players.
If you think you shouldn’t do that, you know nothing about competitive game balancing.

For the same initiative cost, CnD+BS will be replaced by Vault.
Faster execution without reliance on stealth and you can do 2 vaults in a row for a huge burst plus the damage from Bound.
I don’t know, but —- Thief may not be good at 1v1, but I’m pretty sure that they can be a good alternative to a Rampage Warrior with a bunker Guardian support.
Yeah, but rampage warrior is even more outdated for this meta as we are, so I don’t see the point.
I’ve always used both Thief and Engi over my PvP career. I guess I’m just gonna play a bit more engi until they change something. Not giving up Thief completely, I’ll enjoy the struggle from time to time.
I’ve been trying a D/P Daredevil SA Trickery build, taking the interrupt trait in master daredevil since we already have condi cleanse with SA, and it’s working decently well. Hitting key Headshot has a greater impact, which push the skillcap of it a bit higher.
Losing improv and mug hurts a bit, but the adept +7% damage trait makes up the damage of the DA minors.
I just don’t see Staff ever being a good PvP weapon, and it’s probably fine that way. It’s an excellent pve weapon so atleast it has a spot.
They can’t do that, especially in cities.
First, probably a lot of terrain not created with gliding in mind ( possibilities to end in places we’re not supposed to go )
Second, masteries are account bound, and cities map completion gives Transmutation charges. Soon enough people would find an optimal route using gliding to spam the cities even faster than they are doing now.
You’re not playing against very good scrappers then.
You’re crazy to rank Scrapper this low. The current celestial build with it is bordeline S tier. It’s currently outperforming Eles in the well rounded role by quite a lot.
Putting Thief into Medium Health category would help a lot. This would make all 3 mediums to have medium health, but does it matter much ?
You don’t exactly get enough gedoes to buy the recipes everytime you finished it, but its close.
I think there’s a big design flaw with revenant, as it’s almost a non functional class without Herald. The other legends are just too specialized while Herald is the solid " good “, and it shoudln”’t be that way with elite spec imo.

As for the Tengus, I found a few by going south from the East watch waypoint, gliding to stay on the high sides. They’re all veterans, be careful.
I’m 8/14 so far for getting the staff.
Map completion is tricky, I’m close to finishing Verdant brick, but Arenanet locked the last hero challenge behind Nuhoch lvl 5.
Still need the part from dragonstand, then all the mastery gated stuff ( stealth gliding, exalted gathering ( ouch ), Nuhoch stealth detection )

I think a damage buff to Backstab and Larcenous Strike would be a good start to put the power thief build into a better spot.
Increase the front damage to 2.4 coef and the backstab to 4.8. Also, revert Mug back so it can crit. Revert CnD and Dancing Dagger damage to what it was at release.
This won’t address the sustain issue but it will address the 1v1 issue. It also bring back D/D.
Jesus, what did you smoke? You’re already taking half of a player’s health with one backstab, do you want to oneshot everything or what?
Backstab does between 4k and 6k crits in sPvP, if you have 12k health, you might want to switch out of Berzerker amulet.
Although, 4.8 coef would be too much. I was thinking a 20 to 30% buff, not 100%. That’s crazy talk.

Only found one easily accessible, which kinda limits farming them.
I’ve been a fair defender of Thief not being that bad, even being good, but I’m gonna be honest, the Xpac is making it difficult to not be mad at stuff.
Getting into fights and being one shotted by DH traps
Trying to do the in and out figths but getting chased down by spamable 1200 range Shiro Revenant
Trying to snipe the mesmers at the back but running into their 3sec x2 blocks and insane blur uptime.
Being killed by Reapers AoE during fight when they don’t even realize you’re there.
It’s rough. Playing the class feels even more like an uphill battle now.
And I have the feeling the " every pro team has a thief " argument might not be relevant soon enough. Shiro/Glint revenant can replace us very effectively from what I’ve seen.
A lot of mobs need better telegraph on some of their attacks. Most frogs that aren’t the big bulky ones are just random about it.
Isn’kitten chance from Map event completion ? ( not exploration, but the bar that shows just up of your minimap when you hover around there.
I honestly would never have believed anyone telling me the new Daredevil heal could be better than, Withdraw, but its actually amazing.
It’s so fast, heals for quite a lot, and gives 1 and a half dodge worth of energy. Having dash means you’re not too scared of immobilize which you usually are without withdraw.
I recommend everyone to try it out some. It’s really nice.

Maybe the bug isn’t why we’re offering “feedback” which you’re calling whining.
How can your feedback be useful if your experience against scrapper is one brevious to the bug fix ?
The spec went from perma protection to a half uptime, that’s a big difference when considering whever or not Adaptative armor is too strong defensively.
I like how people keep whining without acknowledging the bug fix I talked about in any way.
They just nerfed the bug that gave them twice the protection duration from their adept trait from healing turret, that should help a lot in making them feel less impossible to kill.
In order to do the specializations you gave to farm 400 hero points. Don’t expect to be able to but the game and immediately unlock new abilities.

Vinewrath is the flower you see in the cinematic when the final phase starts. The hints means you have a chance of getting it in the big chest at the very end of the event chain after you defeat the 3 champions of mordremoth, one if each line.
We actually already have that animation. It’s the walking with staff one. Try it. They just made him use it without moving.

It’s launch day and I can sit near a hero challenge in the canopy for an hour without someone coming to help, and even if someone comes, that’s still 3 people short of killing the kitten thing.
Why are you playing alone in a launch day? Why you dont have party of firends who traind the same mastery and do same explorations?
Well, in my case nah I didn’t have anyone today. But my point is really just that they can stay difficult but they shoudl scale down a bit more so 2 or 3 good players can do them. Right now you just get eaten alive by the damage and you wouldn’t even be able to kill the champion in time anyway.

With the dodges and new staff auto 3 animations, the spec has really fulfill what I asked of a Daredevil as far as flavor go.
The scrapper runes could be decent. It’s more added to Dash damage reduction, and weakness reducing damage too. It’s not like the range is gonna be an issue.
He does ackowledge it, but not in every line.
When you go int the Itzel village, he talks to you, saying that he hopes they don’t discrimate against “us” ( meaning him and you at this moment ) for example
He also has an unique line for when you find the Blister thingy for sylvari.
Burn Guard is REALLY good in low MMR games.

Lots of people playing dumb stuff that dies instantly to burn guard.So it’s good up through the oRNG levels in EU. I’m curious what you consider high MMR.
I didn’t say it wasn’t also good in high MMR, it’s a fairly good build there too obviously.
It’s just, there’s some meta build that bad players just don’t know how to counter, and burn guard is usually one of them.
I dunno, I’ve won some of those unless they bring a ridiculous sourtyard specific setup.
Premade that queue unranked are usually bad and beatable with good pugs.

There’s a lot of stuff that is unblockable already in the meta, and I’m not a fan of adding more, but yeah, having some of thief wouldn’t be bad, especially since Guardians are pretty high on our hard counter list.
It requires 2 good thieves which understand the situation to make double thief work on a pug team.
And if you thought finding a single good thief was hard, imagine two on the same team
Because they need to sell HoT and what is better way to do it than create artificial demand by nerfing thief to oblivion and give rev all that thieves ever wanted?
They didn’t even stop there. They nerfed the core game as a whole and put all the goodies behind the pay wall. You want legendary? Too bad, the precursor will no longer drop after HoT since you can craft it there. If you want a legendary, you need to buy HoT.
Precursors for vanilla legendaries can still be obtained the normal way. I’m not sure but precursor crafting might even be something everyone get, even without buying HoT.
Also, since when expansion are waywalling stuff in a MMO. This whole argument over other parts of the forum is ridiculous.

The mesmer one was pretty good, since Helseth had footage and in depth analysis o things that mattered.
I enjoy having a good thief on my team.
I don’t know, not playing a thief I don’t really know their state. But I’ll go with the fact they can’t 1v1 are terribad and can’t do anything!… But I don’t really see that as an issue. Good thieves can turn battles and maps around on their own. Point de-capping, and jumping in, spiking and running away again.
The amount of times a thief has come and spiked someone I was 1v1ing and then turned around again whilst I finished capturing the point. Rescued someone in stealth, decapped far to distract the enemy team…
No, I defo like having a good thief on my team.
Yeah, I don’t exactly know where did this trend of whining about the class started, but I guess people are angry because they didn’t want to do what you described when they chose to play the Thief archetype.
Nobody wanted to do it.

I found that Nevermore looked pretty cool on Thief when they showed it on the legendary stream.
But I’ll go for the Daredevil reward track skin first, and make H.O.P.E
Ele having sustain if they trait into water / warcane is fine. I don’t understand why we need to nerf that.

Be warned that solo / small group roaming in WvW isn’t exactly a rewarding thing to do, it’s just good fun between other activities usually. The reward for it is almost nothing but the pleasure of it.
You can play very lame as Thief in WvW because of the 3sec reveal instead of 4 in pvp. And you’re gonna need to since a lot of the roamers these days are Condi mesmers that you usually should avoid like plague. ( perplexity runes makes them really silly in this mode )
Good changes, the guy crying about trap ranger probably never played at the highest level of this game, no trapper ranger isn’t a problem and it won’t.
And about thieves without vamp, it’s time to adapt again and playing around with your actives instead of your passives.

A proper Steal hit is basically 100-0.
A lot of the Thieves complaints showcase that Thief relying on only active defense make them really frustrating to play.
Well, yeah, Thief is fine, but this change affect it a lot, so a slight buff to compensate wouldn’t be too much.
You’re saying this like I’m making a full 180 on what I usually sayu.. which is not the case at all. :/I just feel like Vamp runes is a big part of why Thief can currently engage in some fights they couldn’t without them.
Well I think you’ll agree with me that somethings gotta be wrong with a class that solely gets carried or made viable by a particular rune set.
Vamp Runes are just braindead, its yolo passive that gets you out of jail eventhough you were supposed to die, whats even worse you can even safestomp with it.
D/P SA is passive enough already, but with Vamp runes you’re literally immortal. Out of this very specific spec, thief is garbage though. Maybe ANet finally realizes that thief isn’t as great as it is always said to be once this trash rune is gone.

Heh, I agree with you overall. Thief has a LOT of core issues that will need addressing once they finally remove / nerf all the crutch it’s relying on these days.
Although I just can’t agree when people say the class is useless or ineffective right now. It’s just hard to have decent discussions about it because people are so extreme on the bad side of things that I tend to be extreme in the other side when it comes up.
