Well, most of the thief community has been very vocal about the mandatory aspect of Trickery and the poor use of the 23rd June specialization patch in that regard, while mesmer basically got a full traitline worth of stuff baseline during the same patch.
I’m also coming to an agreement that thief is probably fine. We needed time to see what works. The nerf to shiro revenant made them something that wouldn’t contest our spot, so our unique advantage to conquest are still there.
Now we bite our lips and wait for the dragonhunter nerf so we can’t play a bit less stressed.
By the way, I really appreciate that you’re taking the time to interact and discuss stuff here Caed. Not many people of the “pro” scene do it and it’s always nice to discuss stuff in depth.

Basilik is pretty key to hitting a full fist furry. Without a real stun you may feel like everyone just dodge some of the hits of it and you’ll never get the Palm Strike.

As for the Tengus, I found a few by going south from the East watch waypoint, gliding to stay on the high sides. They’re all veterans, be careful.

Map completion is tricky, I’m close to finishing Verdant brick, but Arenanet locked the last hero challenge behind Nuhoch lvl 5.Still need the part from dragonstand, then all the mastery gated stuff ( stealth gliding, exalted gathering ( ouch ), Nuhoch stealth detection )
I am not sure if this was mentioned/realized yet but you can get map completion on VB with just Nuhoch lvl two, and maybe not even needing that.
You needed Nuhoch lvl 5 at the time I posted, but that particular hero challenge got changed to a simple commune with no requirement.
If you run Pack Runes and Thrill of the Crime, you also have 13sec of swiftness everytime you steal, and with the passive proc of pack runes and you stack a pretty good amount of swiftness.
Add to that any swiftness you might have gotten from allies during a fight and it becames pretty rare to rotate somewhere without having enough of it on you already.
So many people using the same pieces. x_x
I tried to make something coherent with skins you don’t see too often. The Viper chest piece is pretty nice for a medium that isn’t either revealing nor a pure trench coat.
Also the gloves are cultural sylvari T2, intended to make it looks like she grew stronger bark around her hands to protect herself.
( Sylvari are known to be able to do that in lore, all the sylvari cultural armor isn’t really vestment, it’s growing from the sylvari itself. )
First mission, be a Sylvari, choose to not go help the sylvari underground. You’ll go with the canon plan and you’ll find a sylvari on the way. You’ll get dialogue to help him.
There’s twio hero challenge locked behind ley line gliding. One in Dragon’s stand ( spider queen area ) and one in Auric Bassin.
So there’s that I guess too.
You actually have to pay for the tab each day, which makes the items kinda kittenty.

We used Shadow Arts.
It’s important to do the first part of the night events, before the bosses, to get T4. You need to defend and upgrade the majority of the camps ( you have some margin to lose camps, but not much )
If you can get 20% into T2, killing all 5 legendary bosses will give you T4.
Are you talking about the oiled ancient staff head on the tp? Where do you charge it afterwards ?
At any hero challenge that is a commune.

That definitely seems to be a recipe not updated for the current rate at whiuch you get the ore.
I liked the idea of it until you specified it would work on the reveal using stealth attack applies to you.
Maybe in your head the idea of it being a zone people wouldn’t want to stay in so the thief can stay safe is good, but it would make refuge th emost OP offensive skill in the game.
That’s 4 to 5 backstab in a row if it worked like this.

I got hit by a 8k one the other day, the hell.
People are getting better at them. Ocotovines is done often by pure map commanding, Dragonstand is not that hard since the new circle strat, Verdant Brick it’s kind ahard to find Securitry level 4 maps but people kill all 5 legendaries already.
Only Tangled depths is kinda badly designed imo.
You’re lucky, I’ve mastered 8 out of the 9 elite spec and got 0 recipe. Guess I’ll have to buy them.
You can buy them at a Laurels vendors if you didn’t receive the recipes.
11k, vault, what the hell. That guy must have been glassy to all hell. I don’t hit 11k vault unless I have over 3k power from 25 mights.
Also, for people findign this thread with questions :
The place of power you need to use the Oiled part is any hero challenge that only require a commune.
An easy one to go for is the old " You’re not worthy" challenge in verdant brick.
The part for the machiend weapon that says " drop from noxious pods " is wrong and outdated.
You get it from the end chest after the dragon’s stand meta event. Can’t be the same one as when you buy the played weapon.
I’m feeling this issue a lot on Thief, for a few reasons :
I have low health pool, even with quite a few valkyrie pieces I won’t get over 15k / 16k health.
My ranged weapon sucks at doing good damage, so if I stay ranged, I’m basically leeching the events over someone that could do double the damage I do at range.
My natural defenses like Blind are ineffective against anything with a breakbar. Timing evades is difficult because a lot of mobs / bosses don’t have tell to their attack / I get random targeted by them at melee even tho I have no toughness bonus.
I thought Magnus Falls was all 4 maps, not just Verdant Brink?
Also, I find adventures a good source of XP, especially when you complete them the first time. Some of them are fun to do too.
And to add to the topic, what skin set do you think would look best with the Fix-R-Upper? Seems to me that Aetherblade or Magitech armor suits it well.

If you dodge / block / invu a thief’s steal, he’s literally done for and has to disengage tho. It’s all his momentum gone.
Revenant is like ten time more forgiving than thief, while doing more damage, being more survivable, and having the same +1 power.

If you don’t play Glint in PvP you have no right to complain. Play the best spec available or accept your limitations.
It’s just coded as giving back 50 energy sadly. No bug, just poor description.
Daredevil definitely made S/D better tho.
I’m having some success running Acro Trick DrD with Bound, Pack Runes.
Acro + Pack runes gives me enough swiftness on Bound to make it for not having Dash.
Distracting Daggers is pretty neat to help S/D with interrupts since it doesn’t have headshot.
Larcenous Strike definitely could use a damage / utility buff tho. I wish the first attack was also unblockable. Make S/D the unblockable set.
Because revenant was supposed to not have weapon swap at first. ( didn’t have it in bwe1 )

It’s pretty funny, but their post has a point. Essence sap is insanely overtuned right now for a steal ability. 3k to 4k damage and 4sec slow lol
If you’re doing very well with D/D + P/P in sPvP, I think it’s just you being placed in a bad MMR. Sorry for what that imply.

The infusion of light complaints are just plain stupid and are a l2p issue. Don’t bloody hit the rev when it’s up. You can dodge and block UA. The skill must be kept as it is for PVE at least otherwise it will become useless like it was in the earlier betas.
Those heals simply should share CD or have twice as long CD.
The have 30sec each as a way to balance having 2 of them. TYhey’re also supposed to be weaker than individual heal from other classes, which they aren’t and that’s the problem.
They also have Shield 5 and Devastation Grandmaster which both helps a LOT for healing.

Bumping for interest. Made an asura thief aswell, facerolling people in sPvP due to the fact that I got insane mobility from DD, 2 hard escapes(stealth), awesome burst(playing P/P). I don’t get the thief QQ that’s been going on lately

Stealth rezzes in the middle of teamfights aren’t a thing anymorte due to DH traps, Reapers native aoe, Chrono wells, scrapper hammer 5, revenant glint aoe reveal / aoe pushback
Tons of new abilities makes shadow refuge a lot less useful than before.
Pretty sure Canach is just a warrior.
The big hero challenge can’t be solo no matter your class, but Thief has the advantage to cheese a few of them via stealth / shadow refuge.
The Champion of Balthazar for example can done solo this way.
As far as daredevil goes, I found it very effective. It has plenty of dodges to get out of troublesome mechanics, staff is very good to kill random mobs with Vault destroying pocket raptors easily for example, and the projectile reflect on the auto countering the ranged frogs. Has also access to blinds which are king in solo’ing non champions mobs.
Dash allows you to run around the juggle very very fast, which is nice. The main issue is the lakc of a powerful ranged option, which is why I usually choose P/P as my second weapon set, but it’s still not amazing. But you’re gonna need something when those wyverns are in the middle of their own fire.

Nuhoch vendor, you need Nuhoch lvl 3 or 4 to talk to the vendors, and you exchange it with Ley-line crystal. ( 3rd map currency )
My main issue with the new meta currently installing itself, is the aoe on nodes.
Dragonhunter traps, Reaper shroud / shouts, revenant stuff ( malyx condi aoe thingy, or glint dragon breath ), druid staff and celestial form stuff, chrono wells, etc etc
There’s just SO MUCH STUFF doing aoe on nodes, pure melee fighters like warriors and thieves just can’t handle that.
Ugh, you shouldn’t be doing this. Let the market work itself. Really unhappy with that.
I’m not sure I want to use them already or not. I’m actually not sure why I started storing them up anymore.
Seems like the only repetable PvP track for HoT is the Magus Falls one, which is locked behind 4 non repetable ones, but I’m unsure if it’s worth rushing to get it.
I know that people have gotten it from the T4 Reward in Verdant Brink. When you get to that stage a possible reward from the end chest is a Box of Bladed armor, I’ve gotten boots from it and someone else I know has gotten the chest.

The verdant brick PvP track is non repetable and only gives a Bladed Glove box.
The issue for thief is that our might access is locked in traps, and our traps aren’t that great.
You need to win the dragonstand map then.. Ugh.

I dunno exactly what it is, but its tied to the dragon’stand map.
Also, completing your elite spec gives you the Daredevil’s Scarf, and supposedely the Darevil’s runes recipe. If you didn’t get the recipe, you can buy it at the laurels vendors.
